We came on a Friday night at 6:30pm. One spot left in the parking lot. We entered the restaurant and one table was eating and another was just sat, looking like deer in headlights. No one greeted us so the people without food said "we think you just sit yourself" So we did. And we waited. A few minutes later another couple came in and did the same thing we did - popped their heads in, confused as to whether this was an actual restaurant or just a live play of people sitting at tables with no food and no menus and no staff in sight. Finally a frazzled young man came out from the kitchen and yelled "it's just me working, it's only me!" That was all we needed to know about this restaurant and we booked it out there. As we were leaving the parking lot we noticed the other people were also leaving. I have no idea what was actually going on. Why was it only one non-Indian person working on a Friday night? I was excited to try Mango but this experience really soured me. We went to Atithi in Hicksville instead and had an authentic, delicious meal. I would not recommend Mango. read more

I was really impressed with the high ratings for this restaurant...until I realized that most of the high ratings were from non-Indian patrons. So, I automatically lowered my expectations before going to Mango. We are, after all, in Long Island. My expectations were correct. The food here is very Americanized; extremely mild flavors (bordering on bland). I also ordered my entree "spicy" but what I received was very mild (both in flavor and spiciness). On a positive note, customer service and hospitality was very warm and friendly. The restaurant was decorated very nicely and was very inviting. Parking is available in the shared lot in front of the restaurant but the spots are limited. Mango does have a large menu with a nice variety of dishes. I just wish the food was prepared more authentically. Bolder flavors would do wonders for Mango! read more

Let's kick this off with I am a heat seeker and an Indian food enthusiast and thus have been to many of such restaurants. Normally when ordering I will request to make it really spicy. The food will then come out packing maybe a decent tingle. Mango honored my request and gave me a flavorful dish that had my nose running like a river and my mouth absolutely on fire. I am grateful. I am satiated. Daal special- basically a daal makhani, pretty good combination of lentils and beans in a sauce that misses the mark by a hair. A bit more of those lovely warm spices would balance it out perfectly. Still very flavorful, mild and fairly balanced. Paneer masala - a standard tikka sauce but also missing some umph. Lightly spiced. Has the creaminess you would look for in such a dish Mushroom special - a pleasant surprise of mushrooms with peppers and onions in some sort of yellowish sauce. Flavors balance nicely, seasoning is balanced and overall a great experience. Saag paneer- the color being on the yellow side threw me off. Probably too much turmeric? But when taking a bite, the combination of spices flow right through in synch. Really smooth with an excellent warm finish. Highly recommend Chicken with duo of onions - (that's the translated name) this is the one I asked extra spicy. They did not hold back. A K.O punch of flavor. Onions are present. The whole dish is red and just screams "I will make you burn!" The first bite kicks off the race of how much can I eat before wiping my nose? It hurts so good! Staff were very friendly. Ordered online and had no idea how long it would take. Waited about a half hour. Heard someone in front of me ask for their house hot sauce. Curious about that. Long story short, this place deserves a try. Portion sizes are very fair for the price. read more

Thrilled to write this review, as my heart was shattered at the sound of House of India closing last year. I have nothing to say other than, it was just spectacular. This is AUTHENTIC Indian food- the way I remembered it growing up with my mom and her family. It was everything I missed and wanted. We did a large pick up order with about 7 different dishes, and the flavors were just perfect. Hats off to our chefs! Very simple , yet clean feeling ambiance inside- with some traditional touches. Very kind staff and quick service. Will definitely be ordering again VERY SOON and hopefully get a babysitter so I can go indulge in person lol. My favorites are the Vindloo and biryani.. of course garlic naan and assorted samosas too! Everything was so fresh and delightfully reminiscent of the other restaurant. THRILLED! read more

I honestly don't know what is wrong with all you people thinking that this is delicious Indian food. The major issue here is everything is extremely bland and I believe the reason that is the case is because so many Americans are scared to death of the Indian spicy food So I think this restaurant stays on the side of caution. I ordered a bunch of dishes such as the Chana masala, the chicken korma, and the aloo gobi matar and everything is just SO BLAND it's not even funny and sadly the chicken doesn't even taste good. In addition, Gobi Manchurian is supposed to be spicy, and not taste like sweet and sour sauce (lasuni Gobi however is sweet with a garlic kick). The sweet breads are also bland as can be. The Papadans are just ok. If you want real Indian food you have to go to Bedford Stuyvesant in Brooklyn New York or the upper west side of Manhattan. There are some gems in Long Island as well but not that many and I won't mention any names out of respect to this business. If the owner is reading this, please cook authentic Indian recipes loke back at home because Indian food is supposed to be tasty, savory and spicy and give customers the options to set the spice level please. This was a waste of almost $81 but at least the food was still edible and I spiced it up myself to fix the issues. read more

I ordered out from here for dinner and the food was quite tasty. The saag paneer was mild and dense in the flavor and texture of both the spinach and cheese. The lentil soup was equally tasty, with a nice, rich balance of herbs; both the saag and the soup were perfect for reheating next day as leftovers. This is great place to try Indian if you're not one for super-spicy meals (I tend to like the spicy) as many seem a bit timid when presented with an Indian food menu. My only gripe is the $6.95 charge for the side of basmati rice; other area Indian restaurants provide the rice gratis with an entrée. Solid tasting food though and great for someone new to Indian dishes. read more

Ordinarily, I would give this establishment a good review because we do enjoy the food, but the last time we came was completely unacceptable. When we walked in the restaurant, the greeter was looking at his phone and did not pick his head up to acknowledge us at all. We sat there patiently, waiting, letting him finish with his business and once he was done with the phone, he escaped out of the room so quickly that he didn't even have a chance to greet us. Another patron tried to get his attention to let him know that we were waiting for him to see us and he ignored her. Another couple got up and walked out because they hadn't yet gotten their menus. I went up to the gentleman host and told him that we wanted a table for two and that we would just seat ourselves, and he noticed us and said that he was the only one staffed at the moment. But after a while when he neither gave us menus or offered us water, we decided to just get up and leave as well . If he had spoken to us politely and explained that due to understaffing, it was going to take him a while to be able to help us, we would have understood. But the fact that he kept pointedly looking in his phone while we were trying to catch his attention and completely ignored us was such a big turn off that I won't be able to return to that restaurant again, despite having previously had positive experiences. read more

Ordered pick up through their website last night for dinner after my wife was craving Indian food. After placing the order (can pay in person or online) received an email that the order was received, although I called shortly after to inquire time until ready (only 25 minutes). Pick up was a breeze, and the restaurant is adorable (one side is sit down with I'd say about 10 tables and the other is the bar with 2-3 settings) - Apparently, their sister restaurant was House in India in Huntington (now closed) and as sone who is not the biggest fan of Indian food, this blew me away. Everything was pipping hot when we arrived home and packaged well. We got a few different types of dishes and was so surprised how good everything was. The Chicken Tandoor and Tikka were my highlights, but I LOVED the lamb biryani and the vegetable jalfrezi was a sleeper. So glad to have this place locally with the options of delivery through DoorDash or pick up. Next time will absolutely be dining in person. read more

We've ordered from a restaurant in Hicksville for years, but were looking to try something different. Mango didn't disappoint! We tried both the veggie and meat samosas, and they were delicious. My wife preferred the meat, while i liked the texture and taste of the vegetable ones. The Mrs. ordered the panir masala, and I opted for lamb korma. Both were outstanding, with the lamb as mild and tender as any I've ever had! The nan was also like butter.... and went to good use sopping up the sauces. We'll be back to try more! read more

I'm trying to wrap my head around the good reviews for this place. I've had great Indian food experiences in beautiful restaurants -- this ain't it. Despite some charming pieces of lovely Indian artwork the place looks like a cafeteria and someone made the unfortunate decorating decision to have a neon sign in the window. The food: We were brought papadum with chutney and a nice tamarind sauce, all of which were tasty. Then we ordered the pakora appetizer - it was hard, looked really funky and inedible. It was like eating a tasteless rock - inexcusable for rich, fragrant Indian cuisine. Oh, and while we were trying the sad appetizer, a worker in the place looked as though he squashed a bug on the wall that had a pile of dirty plates in the bin up against it. That's when I told my boyfriend, um cancel our dinners and let's make a run for it! The kicker? They tried charging us for the two dinners we had canceled and were never served! We were craving Indian food and since I had Mango bookmarked on Yelp for awhile, it was high time to try them out. Ordered and paid online for pickup a few hours later. I had a few questions and the owner was very friendly and helpful on the phone. Easy peasy except for the fact that my order wasn't quite ready when I arrived but no biggie, waited in the car and a staff member came out a few minutes later to let me know. Their dine-in area looked cozy and very clean. Eats: Chicken Tikka Masala; Lamb Biryani; Tandoori Wings; Meat Samosas; Mulligatawney Soup; Onion Kulcha Bread; Garlic Naan ; Tamarind Chutney and Mango Lassi. Unfortunately the mulligatawney soup was way too spicy for me (but probably fine for the less sensitive). Everything was delicious with abundant portions, in fact I'm sopping up the yummy leftover Tikka Masala sauce with naan as I write this the following night. Especially recommended are the large savory samosas shaped like tiny yurts, the best ever. Thank you fellow Yelpers for steering me to this intimate local gem. What an amazing restaurant. I've ordered from here quite a few times and each meal was extremely delicious. Recently I have developed a food sensitivity to tomato and when I called to ask a few questions about some of the dishes, I was educated on what I can eat and enjoy. Tonight I ordered off of grubhub. This part is NOT the restaurants fault, but when a Grubhub driver went to pick up my food, the driver picked up my order, left with the food and never delivered my food and made lies to grubhub that the road was flooded and couldn't get to me (the roads were not flooded). I handled this situation separately with Grubhub, but I still didn't have dinner. I really wanted my chicken korma so I called the restaurant to explain what happened with grubhub and to see if they can re make my meal and I can pick it up instead. It was a few minutes before 10pm at this time. The restaurant said they would stay opened and wait for me to arrive and the kitchen stayed opened late past their normal business hours and made me my dinner. I was so appreciative of this. I was greeted kindly by the restaurant and when I got home, my food was still nice and warm that I didn't need to heat it up and it was delicious! Lentil soup came next, very hot so be careful but I think it was the best lentil soup i've had in a very long time. Nan came out nice and warm and I had a veg curry with potatoes, peas and tomato. Seriously, I ate every bite of it with some nice long grain rice. My friend had chicken curry and loved it! And even better we're the prices, we were there for lunch so it was extremely inexpensive. Came here on a Thursday night with a party of two for dinner and had no issue getting a table with no reservation. Started the meal with vegetable samosas which were the biggest I've ever seen and very tasty. We then got the butter chicken and the lamb do piaz with rice and garlic Naan. Chicken was rich and very saucy and the lamb was tender, a little spicy and definitely something a little different from your typical Indian fare and worth the try. The Naan was perfect, and I honestly could have been satisfied eating just that. We also got the hot spiced Chai tea which was not only delicious but also just felt like it warmed the soul. Was too full for dessert, but like with the rest of menu, I'd love to comeback and give it a try. Service was great, very attentive and helpful and didn't rush us at all. Atmosphere is nice and pretty quiet with just some light music playing in the background, making it no issue at all to talk to whoever you're with. It's a little on the pricier side, but you do get great quality and generous portions for your money. Parking lot in front is available, but it's small, so you may need to park along the street or down the nearby side streets when it's busy. read more

Just moved to the south shore and haven't eaten any Indian food in quite some time. Was babysitting just around the corner and got a craving. Ordered some Alu Palak (potatoes with spinach) and a lamb Vindaloo along with garlic naan, papadum and cucumber ryiata. Food was ready for pickup in 20 minutes. Lamb was tender and medium spice as requested. The Alu Palak was really good too. Nice meat and potato combo. Sauces on both dishes were spiced perfectly. We were in Merrick and felt like having Indian food for dinner. After googling Indian restaurants near me, Mango came up. It's in Bellmore but was only minutes away from where we were. I looked at Yelp reviews and crossed my fingers. We called and spoke to a very friendly man on the phone to see if we could order the dishes we usually get in the city. We ordered chana masala, aloo mutter, vegetable korma, rice and naan. He met us outside and put the food into the car. Since we're living in the sad world of this pandemic, we wiped down all the containers when we got home, washed our hands and plated the food. With high hopes we dug in. The food is fantastic. We ordered medium spicy thankfully. The spice level was perfect for us. Our noses were running from the spice which is exactly the spice level we want. Each dish was so delicious. Mango is a small Indian restaurant on the ever-busy Merrick Road. It is located in a small strip of businesses and had a small parking lot in which we were able to easily find parking at 1:30pm on Sunday. Being that it's not a huge place and we had a party of 8, I called ahead about an hour early to make a resi for 1:30pm. However, when we arrived, it was not busy at all - maybe 2 other diners - so there was no issue with getting seated immediately, and they had our table setup & ready for us as well. 1st impression upon entering the main dining area was that it was neat/clean and had some nice pics on the wall. The proprietors were our servers and they were friendly & attentive. Unlike many Indian restaurants, they don't have a lunch buffet, but they do have several items to choose from on their $9.99 lunch specials. They have plenty of other items to choose from as well, so if what's on the lunch specials doesn't appeal to you, you will still have a lot of other options available. The regular entrée prices can range anywhere from around $13 for some veg items to around $18 for many meat options. Seafood and biryanis will run you a few bucks more. We got a few chicken & goat dishes to share (especially with a young kids in our party & who wouldn't be able to finish individual orders) and some regular and garlic naans. The curries all come with rice which was fresh and fluffy but not overcooked. The naans, too, were brought out piping hot and adequately soft with a hint of crispiness. While the lunch specials may not look huge, it was enough to satisfy me...although I didn't come in starving. I could have put away some more food but I'm not complaining since my goat curry was from the aforementioned lunch specials. I thought the curries were pretty good overall if maybe slightly mild for my taste (I asked for medium spice). The lunch specials are a good value but if you come in famished, maybe consider ordering 3 dishes to share between 2 people and you should be okay. read more
