We picked up the menus and sat down and the owner brought out this complimentary plate of salad with two delicious sauces; the cilantro based green sauce with that lovely kick and the white a la ranch dressing/sauce. We got the fish tikka as an appetizer( photo). Wow! Served piping hot with the delicate and delicious and flavorful, lemony fish seconds out of the Tandoor or oven after being marinated in yogurt and spices. Really good. My pal got the tandoori chicken and loved it. Tender, juicy and melt in the mouth decadent . We ordered the spinach and potato entree requesting mild with no spice and it was exquisite( photo). Perfect duo! The bread, the roti was the best I've had in a long time. Straight out of the oven with the butter on it as you dip it in the spinach dish. Simply gorgeous. Very busy place with huge take out, understandable as this quality of food is supreme. This team keeps it flowing. We got our food in seconds while the simultaneous take out line was three deep and moving. The prices are the best in the area. The menu features some really interesting dishes. Always been open and adventurous when I was working overseas and am fortunate to be able to recreate those great memories locally. Biryani House is open daily from 11 to 11. I personally believe this casual restaurant is a hidden gem of Hicksville. The food is thoroughly spiced, cooked with skill, and reasonably priced. I enjoy the chicken tikka boti and the chicken makhani. Any of their grilled meats go well with the white sauce they offer free of additional charge. Even the brown basmati rice is done right. The food was average. It was buried in spices and chilies. Of course, these Pakistani foods tend to be spicy but the art is to make spicy to enhance the flavors and not bury the food with it. More importantly, I was very disturbed and disappointed with the service. I placed an order in person and was told that it would be ready in 10 min. So I decided to stay inside and sat on a chair that were unoccupied. The service guy abruptly told me to leave the chair and just stand and wait for the order to be filled. Why I would not have minded this rude behavior so much if that service guy had also told another women customer who was also waiting for her take-out order. I been coming to biryani house for years, they got a very good chef, their biryani and kababs are really good. They always make fresh kababs for you. The best thing about them ( they make delicious highly addictive green and white sauce. You will really love these sauces. I am certain there are better Indian restaurants in the Hicksville area. I came here to order rice and roti. I was specific in looking for a spot that sold roti vs Naan. On their menu, this restaurant has both roti and Naan. DO NOT come here looking for roti or Naan. Their version of roti is the same thing has Naan. And their Naan isn't even that good, at all. Where to begin ??? Ordered a variety of items to give this place a try. Much to our chagrin, the food was nothing like the previous reviewers described. This food was previously cooked and simply microwaved to order. It was cold or tepid at best. Their signature biryani was mediocre at best. Had a decent amount of bone in goat and lamb but was barely warmed up. The tikka chicken was simply previously cooked stewed chicken in tomato sauce with green peppers, it too was cold. The staff was kind and honest. Here's why I'm giving this restaurant 1 star: 1. The butter chicken was a day old, which he stated. We didn't mind as much, but we would've preferred if it was made to order. 2. The man cooking the breads was not wearing a hairnet, which brings me to my third and final point. 3. Be ready to enter a hole in the wall. No fine dining here. The staff is friendly, the food is tasty but it's a very busy establishment with many, many take out orders. Come in and place your order at the counter. We came as a family and scored one of the few tables and sat for dinner. The waiter brought us plates, silverware, salad and white sauce/ green sauce. The food takes a while to cook. But it was tasty, we got biryani, paya, nihari and gosht korma. Some of the items we asked for were not available. Overall the food was tasty and not too spicy with too many green chilis, but well flavored. Then we asked for masala chai, which was fresh made and so tasty. It took some time to come. We also ordered a large kheer for desert to share. It was a big portion. The taste was authentic and you could taste the flavor of the slow cooked milk over time. Extremely rude cashier. Walked in to have iftar (4/27 @7:50pm) and asked for starter (pakora, samosa, chat). The starters were right there on the table right outside, asked him three times but the guy goes back and forth behind the counter but never gave me the samosa. So I decided to take a piece of samosa by myself so I can eat so that I can break my fast, the guy started yelling at me and went on to say there is camera up there, why are you touching the food, he then snatched the samosa from my hand and was going to throw in the thrash. I told him don't throw it out. He mentioned camera multiple times, as if I'm stealing food. I asked him why are you yelling? Anyways haleem was served cold, naan was ok, sikh kabab was ehhhh, and he never served the chaat btw. He served me another samosa with food, it tasted horrible/stale, I only took a bite and left it there. I made sure I paid for both samosa. Bottom line how can you treat customer so bad, you call yourself halal restaurant but your behavior is worst than a criminal. I kept it cool and ate quickly and left. This place has the best biryani I've ever tasted anywhere in NY, I also tried the Chicken Makhani which was over my expectations it was Hot and tasted great, they gave 3 types of sauces which include Pakistani style yogurt (Raita with veggies), white sauce like the Halal Cart one and Spicy Green Raita (No veggies) the biryani was exquisite which was full of flavor and spices, the only downside is the location as it is far, if they open a location in Queens or Brooklyn it will work like a charm read more

Started with a nice chicken seekh kebobs then got seriously good with the Bihari kebob which was heavily marinated, slightly charred and full of flavor. Wanted the Karahi chicken but they didn't have it. The worker was kind enough to make it for me fresh if I agreed to wait about 20 minutes. Worth the wait. Crazy spicy and delicious and went perfect with the brown rice. The place is divey, you order at the counter then sit at one of the five tables. Had the misfortune of dining at a restaurant which claims to make the best biryani in NY. Truth be told, this was by far the worse biryani I've ever tasted. I suppose the chef confuses biryani with multi colored rice deliberately left void of any flavor whatsoever. We order chicken seekh kababs- which were fresh out of the Tandoor - mediocre tasting at best. Nihari was barely edible as well as it seriously lacked flavor. Sadly, the best part of the meal were the Naan. The only item on the menu that this establishment didn't screw up royally. I fail to understand if the owners/chef- really are taste blind or deliberately trying to run the business in the ground. Third rated cooks who cook with generic Shan masala can make more flavorful dishes than biryani house's offering. This has been my go to place for Indian food and it's fairly good . It's pretty much a small establishment and would be considered a hole in the wall by most. I usually get the Chicken Masala which comes with a side of rice and a Samosa or 2.Family members have had the chicken Biryani and been quite happy with it . They've also tried the lamb chops (weren't as happy with those as the seasoning was a little weird) as well as these chicken sticks of which I can't recall the name.My only issue is sometimes the food is given to you lukewarm or barely warm . I've had the naan and it hasn't been the best I've I've tried but is still acceptable . I've also had their mango Lassi which I like. I find I have to make sure to double check everything before leaving as they've forgotten items in the past .I've always been satisfied with my meal and although they are fairly decent I will likely be on the lookout for another place . read more

Save yourself some pain and get takeout. The food was very good, but the service was terrible. We arrived around 8:15 pm. We ordered fairly quickly. The food took maybe 30 minutes to come out (we were the only diners in the restaurant at the time), but at least it was delicious and clearly made fresh. The boyz split some meat samosas which were really yummy and decently spicy. Our papadums were delish to start the meal. Our friend ordered the boneless chicken biryani, spicy and he was very pleased. My husband and I ordered lamb korashi gosht which was delicious, with plenty of meat and spice. The chicken tikka masala was also quite good. Both were done to a nice medium level of spiciness. The paratha was a little dry, but quite good. We all had leftovers to take home. The waitress, Mithu was on her phone practically the whole meal. At the end when we were well past done and waiting for the check, we came to realize she had disappeared from the premises. The chefs came out yelling after her on the street. A couple of customers came in to pick up takeout and were luckily helped by one of the cooks. The cook ended writing us up a new check as well and we finally were able to pay and leave a good 25 minutes after we wanted to. Apparently, Mithu had had a difficult phone conversation with her boyfriend and needed to leave, she eventually did come back. This never should have happened. From what I can read below, her being on the phone is a frequent occurrence. Maybe we'll get takeout next time, or maybe just skip it altogether. Please fix your service! read more

The place isn't fancy and the service isn't extraordinary. The food makes up for all this though. I haven't tried the whole menu but kebabs, biryani, haleem and choley are very good. They serve raita with their biryani along with green and white sauces.
