Took advantage of a Groupon discount and stopped in at Mango's for an early dinner. It was nice to see a board of health "A" rating on the door. We were promptly greeted and seated. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was a happy hour special on margaritas at $4.99. So I jumped on it. They brought me a huge 20oz goblet filled with an excellent frozen margarita. I usually find happy hour drinks are watered down, but not in this case. Arguably, one of the best margaritas I've had, and coming from a Texas boy, that's high praise[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Of course, i was billed $9 for the drink. Apparently, I ordered the happy hour special and got the jumbo sized non-special price. No worries, the drink was that good[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Ok, food. Fresh, warm chips and a very good salsa. A little "thin", but good flavor. There were no hot sauces on the table to spice it up. We received extensive menus, and needed time to look them over. We didn't see our server for another 15 minutes! Once we ordered, the food was brought out rather quickly. My wife had a seafood burrito, but requested a ranchero sauce rather than crema and they delivered. Her burrito wasn't stuffed with tons of rice filler and a few shrimp, and was filled with shrimp, crab, veggies. Her only ding was the tortilla was soggy from the sauce. I went with my usual fajita order. A sizzling g plate, with a substantial serving. Same with the usual side plate. Pinto beans (not refried), lettuce & diced tomatoes, guacamole, and rice. The tortillas seemed to be house made. Light and fluffy. I'd be shocked if these had come from a package. But, I don't understand why they serve such a large portion with only 3 tortillas. They were filled with half an order remaining! Probably a good thing, as that other half will be enjoyed at home! The fajitas were terrific! The steak was tender and well seasoned. Lots of grilled onions and peppers. And Mango's is one of the few restaurants that serve strips of beef rather than chopped up "bits" of steak. Mango's isn't close to home, but it was worth the drive. I wouldn't hesitate to return when I'm back in the area and check out their lunch buffet. read more

We have been going to Mango's since it opened - some 20 years ago. We always enjoy the food. My complaint is in regards to gift cards. My son buys me Mango's gift cards for Christmas and Fathers Day. There is a waiter at Mango's that will tell you that the machine is not working - or that the manager is not present - therefore he is unable to process a gift card. The other day he was able to process a gift card for $14.02 - but not use the one for $200 ??? I had to calmly argue with him for 5 minutes to get him to use that card. I talked loud enough so that folks at the other tables understood what goes on there. I don't want any more gift cards for Mango's! read more

Mango's came highly recommended from friends who live in the neighborhood and order in from there often. They also dine in occasionally. I met those friends and also brought my in laws who are visiting Louisville from out of state last night, a Monday. We arrived about 5:30 pm. The restaurant is colorful, spacious and nicely decorated. It appears very clean. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly. It was not very busy. The server took our drink orders and they were brought in a reasonable amount of time. They were correct except one in our party was brought her margarita on the rocks instead of frozen as ordered. The error was quickly and cheerfully corrected. The problem occurred after that. We were chatting and enjoying our drinks initially. It didn't take long for us to decide on our food orders, but it took a very long time for the server to come back and take our orders. Several of us had finished our drinks and were looking all around. After what seemed like 20 minutes, we literally had to wave a menu in the air and flag someone down to get someone back to our table to get our orders taken. As I said, the restaurant was not very busy. Well over half the tables were empty. It looked like one party of 8 and a few tables of 4 or less besides our party. Once our orders were taken, it took a fairly long time to get them served to us. My food was not piping hot as I would have preferred, but it was warm. I have to say the orders were all correct and the food was all delicious going by my own meal and what everyone at our table said. No complaints there. I would say prices were comparable to other similar restaurants in the area. Our service was courteous. Long wait times took some of the shine off of an otherwise very good dining experience. Our friends who frequent the place said it was unusual to get less than prompt service. I would definitely return to Mango's and give them another chance. Mother's Day. entering the restaurant, the music was so loud , live music. We could not even talk to the host. We asked them to turn the music down, but they would not. There was nowhere else to go because the whole party had arrived and it was unbearable .It was live music, which would have been nice on a patio, but inside the speakers would blow you out the door. I would have expected it to be fully staffed with waitresses or waiters. We had to wait 50 minutes to get our drinks after being seated, then another 15 minutes to put our order in. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were 13 people in our party and they ran out of drinks many times[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] . When the food started coming it was OK. We had to ask for different items that was not sent out and it took forever. we were there 2 and a half hours. Some of the food was cold. Before Covid, it was one of my favorite restaurants. I have not visited here in a long time because of the "Lunch Buffet is BACK!" The food offerings were about the same, but there was no Shrimp Burrito, my favorite, as there was before COVID-19. The Chicken Burrito and Beef Burrito were good enough. The fruits and vegetables on the salad bar were fresh. There were not as many people as before. I hope the local business is doing well. The prices for the regular lunch buffet seemed a bit high. Basically, if we're not for the Groupon, this would get two stars at the most the quality is OK. The atmosphere is fine and the service was good. So to start with not a big deal but of course [[HIGHLIGHT]]they're Pepsi products and I really can't stay in a Mexican restaurant serving Pepsi. It just seems like traditionally they always had Coke and I hate Pepsi.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got the chorizo cheese dip at $9.25. I expected more than a little cup. It tasted OK but it did not have much chorizo. Then I got a steak burrito with rice and beans and the piece of steak was big, but it was one big chunk and I'm used to chopped up and marinate it more with more grill and more char here and there to taste better this was a big chunk of steak it Wasn't as tender as it could be if it was chopped up in a little bit and your fried. Next refried beans I guess they were more authentic, but I want them to be kind of orange with a lot of seasoning. These were very bland. The rice wasn't very good either. It was very yellow without much flavor. I like some chicken broth or something I'll give it more zip but wasn't very soft and it didn't have any taste either. And I almost just wanna give them two stars because it had another place that has a cash price and a credit price and I can understand doing that but the price on the menu should be the Credit price and there should be a discount if you pay cash, you should not pay extra with the credit card I assume with a credit card that what's on the menu is what I'm gonna pay Assist up to the business to set the price to take cost like credit card fees into account I should not be surprised at the end with a higher bill. Because I was using the Groupon that didn't really much matter and I had enough cash for the dollar and something that was left plus tip. This Mexican spot is right by my gym so I've visited often. During restaurant shut downs, I did carry out a few times. They were soooo quick with my order and walked it to my car window when ready. I tend to order off the 'a la carte' menu and get 2 chicken soft tacos, side of rice, and a side of sautéed onions. My only complaint is that the chicken used in the soft tacos is shredded chicken that must sit in a vat of juices because I have to literally drain the taco before attempting to eat it. Due to excess liquid/juices, the taco gets soggy, drips all over the place, and becomes messy. Upon my last visit, I asked for grilled chicken strips instead but was told that it would be $2 extra... which doubles the cost of the taco in the first place. I can understand a slight charge but not double the price. I stuck with the messy chicken tacos and just soaked it all up in a napkin. Upon this visit, I was with 4 other friends and they all got the same thing, the naked burrito bowl, and all loved it. It was served in a large bowl and could easily be 2 meals. Having a taste for Mexican food and looking to try something new we decided to peruse the menu here at Mango's. There is so much to choose from and I was unsure of what to order... hmm... salads, tacos, chilaquiles....Colombian Arepas and Bandeja Paisa... HEY WAIT A MINUTE!! Hold your horses Mango's, you are a Mexican restaurant with an identity crisis! Those cuisines are really not the same (I would know, I am Colombian and used to visit Mexico 3 - 4x a year and love the cuisine). But... does this identity crisis bother me, NOT AT ALL! Now, I ordered the Salmon with rice and salad and it was phenomenal. I loved the salsa on top of it, the salad was a mixed greens with walnuts and fruit which was good but unexpected as it had a different vibe from the rest of the meal but still was really good. My hubby ordered a vegetable quesadilla which was more of a plate of grilled veggies with a tortilla and cheese, but he loved it. My daughter got the Chicken Empanadas (the Colombian ones with aji) and said they were spot on. I will take her word for it since I am pescatarian. If you guys make one of white cheese or potato filling I would be thrilled to sample it! All in all, it is a good spot and we are happy to have found it. I frequently visit Fiesta Time Amigos and El Nopal, and hadn't been to Mango's in years. I was in the area, and thought I would give Mango's another try. It was the afternoon, which is not always the best time to go to Mexican restaurant. Basically, I had a hard time getting service, and suffice it to say the service was "active" but not efficient. I had to go find my own menu, and had to wait quite a while to get my order taken. That finally occurred a few minutes after the normal lunch time was over. After all that wait, server then said that it was too late to order lunch, and that the lunch menu had disappeared from the screen. Server ended up making it work, but it annoyed me that management has their system set up that way. Food was jokay. There are a LOT of great Mexican places in Louisville. This was a very limited experience, and there are probably people who think this is the best place around, but I won't be back. Fiesta Time Amigos, El Nopal, and Gustavo's really have their act together, and I suggest you go to one of those rather than Mango's. read more

Don't look at the menu and think that you'll get anything close to what's described. Three weeks in a row, despite being in the menu, they did not have Coors Light bottles. The Corona tasted like it was brewed by a skunk. When we asked if they had anything else, they said Michelob Ultra, which wasn't even on the menu.when we went in this evening, still no Coors Light and, this time, NO MICHELOB ULTRA in bottles, only draft. Sorry, wife doesn't do draft beer. When I asked to speak with the manager, he was all snippy and said it was out of his control. No sir, it's your restaurant, it's your menu, it's your responsibility to have what you advertise. If "corporate" is at fault, time to let them know it's time to change the menu or stock what the customer wants. Oh, and don't tell the customer they don't know what they're talking about. And it's very loud and noisy. ZERO STARS despite the fact I'm forced to give them a one star rating. read more

Had a terrible experience got the number 10 combo 2 tacos and bean with rice said 12.99 but because I wanted steak instead of chicken or beef came out to 19 so 6$ up charge which I think the server modified herself because she was very rude after I said I didn't want everything separate I want a 10 combo with steak shouldn't be that hard. But anyways server was rude the rest of the time we were there. My food came out the steak was very chewy mostly un edible tried to take a few bites but kept having to spit the steak out. The beans were actual water. It looked and tasted like water with a bit of bean mixed in. And the rice didn't taste good at all either. Terrible experience will never go back. We've been to Mango's a couple times since we moved to J-town. It's relatively close to home since they closed Señor Iquanas, (which was our favorite close-to-home Mexican), so we're searching for our go-to place for good Mexican food and service. For a Friday night it was reasonably busy, especially since most Mexican eateries are packed for Friday dinner. We were seated immediately in the section by the bar. I'd prefer to sit away from the singer that we've seen there every time we've visited. By the look of thing Mango's occupies 3 storefronts in the retail area it's located in, the bar being farthest from the door. The color scheme isn't as bright as some Mexican restaurants, but is still colorful and has the requisite décor and probably a dozen screens tuned to various sports. We sat for nearly ten minutes before we were acknowledged by any wait staff. Aside from the chips and salsa (that were delivered almost immediately), at least a half dozen servers passed us with not so much as a "how are you doing?", "can I get you anything?", or "your server will be right with you". As it turns out, the server who would turn out to be ours passed us several times during this ten minute period. By the time we were finally greeted we were ready with both our drink and meal orders. The menu is enormous and if you're unsure of what you're looking for, it could take a while to narrow it down. While I'm not normally one to opt for a burger in a Mexican eatery, the Choriburger sounded interesting. A burger topped with Chorizo (aahhh...Chorizo...), and a bunch of other stuff. It also mentions fries "and one side". "...and one side" generally means that you get to choose one side, based on the sides referenced elsewhere on the menu. That is apparently not the case, because when I placed my order and inquired about "and one side" I was told there wasn't one. #ConfusingToTheCustomer After a little push back (I become that customer when something I'm told by a server conflicts with something on the menu) he relented (all I wanted was a side of jalapeños). While I expected a healthy wait for our food based on the customer level, it wasn't too bad and we had it in less than 15 minutes, hot and accurate. Let me tell you about this Choriburger. I was honestly expecting a chorizo patty of some kind. Not the case. It's a pretty large ground beef burger patty with chorizo on top, along with lettuce, black beans, pico de gallo and cheese. This thing was H U G E and very messy. I endeavored to eat it neatly and with dignity, but it wasn't easy. In a word, it was fanfriggin'tastic. The fries could have been warmer, but I wasn't really after the fries in the first place. On Friday nights (I'm not sure about any other nights) Mango's has a lady that sings to prerecorded background music. She uses a wireless mic and is the reason I always request to sit in the area by the bar, because I prefer my Mexican meal in an atmosphere that is more-or-less authentic. The singer (and the featured singers she brings up on occasion) definitely have an Old Country slant, and I'm not really sure how it fits in with the Mexican motif. They are what amounts to karaoke singers. Nothing against Old Country or karaoke (I'm known to belt out a few tunes myself, and have won contests with my novelty stuff), but personally I find it more of a distraction than enjoyable. When it was time to go we had to wait, again, another 10 or so minutes for our check before we ultimately had to flag our server down on his way to another table, although he'd passed by us four or five times. I want to love Mango's. I really do. It's close to home, the food is great and they have some pretty unique items (including random red and green chips with your chips and salsa). There are a couple things that keep the relationship from forming. The first being the level of service we've encountered on each visit and the second being the not-quite-authentic-to-the-atmosphere singer. We'll definitely be back, and we invite you to WOW us. read more

This is my new favorite local Mexican restaurant and I'm kicking myself for not trying it sooner, since it's about five minutes from my house! It's in a little strip mall and so easy to overlook, which I sincerely regret because I've been passing it by for six years. The decor is tasteful and there's some interesting music playing that I guess is Spanish top 40? Anyway, we were seated quickly and I ordered a very nice mescal cocktail. It's somewhat sweeter than a margarita but it has a nice kick. For an appetizer we went with the chicken empanadas, Mexican style. There's four per serving so they're perfect to share, and they're served with pico, guacamole, sour cream and a sprinkle of cotija cheese. I thought they were wonderful, especially the empanada dough, which seemed handmade. For entrees I got the Mango's Platter, which has Mexican rice, grilled chicken and shrimp, all topped with queso. The portion was more than generous and I thought it was better than a similar platter offered at another local chain. My companion had a chicken burrito, which was overflowing with chicken and black beans. It looked messy but he devoured it like a champ. I look forward to another visit very soon to try something new. The menu has some items that you don't see at a lot of places and the service is outstanding. Definitely a new favorite! read more

Mangoes isn't worth the trip. The food is mediocre at best. The entire experience was boring and I should have stayed home and cooked. There was nothing remarkable. We found another Mango's on Hurstborne after the Dutchman's lane location closed. It's still great food. Love the Coronarita margarita and beer. Taste's like a German Radler beer with lemonade. Very refreshing. read more

Hands down the best Mexican restaurant in Louisville. I don't care what anybody says. They have daily lunch specials which are cheap, tasty and the portions are huge. You have to try the chilaquiles. For me, it is the best thing on the menu. I don't even think there's a need to make specific recommendations because you can have tacos burritos fajitas chilaquiles ... It's all good. Service is good and the prices are good. One time I went there every day Monday through Friday and ordered the lunch special each day. Strongly recommend this restaurant. read more
