We recently dined at Limón y Sal on Shelbyville Road in the old Molly Malone's. It's a bright restaurant that fills up the space. Lots of seating options and we were able to sit immediately with a table of eight! The menu is pretty large with quesadillas, sopas, tacos, tortas, burritos and other Mexican fare. We started with drinks - they had a special for margaritas and they were strong! Only needed one! We started with queso and chorizo dip for the table. The chips were light and fresh and pretty addictive! After much debate, I ordered the pollo poblano - grilled chicken cooked in a creama sauce and served with rice and beans. It also came with a choice of corn or flour tortillas. It was good but kind of plain, it was only chicken and no accompanying veggies - they were blended into the sauce. My husband ordered the carnitas and really enjoyed the big chucks of crispy pork with rice. The kids menu included tacos, enchilada, quesadillas, cheeseburger, chicken fingers and burrito - reasonably priced at $7. We enjoyed dinner and will be back!

The food service and ambiance of the new location is perfect! This location is bigger and can accommodate more guests. They also have outside dining with a roof. I had the shrimp & crab tacos on a blue corn tortilla. It was delicious. We also had a margarita flight . You have to go to either location. The food is so delicious and the service is always top tier.

Yum! And - nice work renovating this once Irish restaurant that was dark and drab into a colorful, beautiful, and lively spot. My group of four friends loved the vibe and we had great service. The salsa, even the hot, could use more flavor but loved the chips. The margaritas are delish and I recommend the flight. They can be potent! I opted for the keto carnitas tacos. I missed they came on lettuce wraps but totally makes sense. The carnitas with pineapple pico and crema was so, so good. No reservations were taken on weekends. Parking is kinda annoying around St. Matthews. Do your best to find nearby street parking. Patio is available and an upstairs party room.

First time in, will be back! Popped in on a Friday night at almost closing time. Service was fast and friendly. Food was hot and fresh. The guac was so good--chunky and fresh. We sat at the bar and the server was friendly and accommodating. The space is huge. Lots of table seating, igloos outside in the winter and a nice patio.

Bland rice and beans and nothing to special about the fixings.

I was excited to try this restaurant but ended up disappointed. The ambience and restaurant design is modern and sleek. Yet, the steak fajita lunch special that I got that included rice and beans was lacking in flavor: simply more seasoning would have really helped most likely. For the reasonable price, I was realistic enough not to expect high quality steak. To be fair, my dining companion really liked his grilled chicken quesadilla. However, there was an upcharge for rice AND beans whereas the menu said rice OR beans were included for the quesadilla. I have never seen this before for a Mexican restaurant, where rice and beans were not both included, and the server didn't inform us of this till we asked him about it at the end. It is also worth noting that I am used to when going out with my male companion in the Kentuckiana region having servers automatically assume he will pick up the check; I believe the check should be placed in the middle of the table, such an assumption should not be made. Our server did the same thing here, and when I told him to give me the check he expressed disbelief. I took the opportunity to slightly educate him, but I didn't appreciate this reaction. Anyway, all in all, I don't plan to return to this establishment for a variety of reasons.

    Abysmal Breakfast Tacos

What a LETDOWN!! This location opened recently and I was excited to try it as I have been a big fan of the other location. After seeing their social media posts about brunch I headed to this location to try it. First red flag: nobody in the establishment at 1:00pm on a Saturday had brunch. I wasn't sure if nobody was in the mood for breakfast, but my partner and I were the ONLY people who seemed to be interested in brunch. We order the Tres Leches Waffle, Breakfast Tacos, Mango Mimosas, and the Mexican Potatoes. Red Flag #2: My tres leches waffle comes out first, no other dishes, ahead of my partners tacos. No problem right? No. we sat for about 5-10 minutes, but the worst part is how much food was in the tacos. It looked as if one egg was used to fill all three tacos! As the red flags continued, my tres leches waffle was burnt and dry. This is supposed to be a moist dish with good flavor, none of which I experienced. After a few bites it felt like I was eating condensed milk rocks and raising my blood pressure. Additionally, the Mexican potatoes came out with the tacos, but were cold? I don't usually care if food is extremely hot, but these potatoes sat for no less than 30 minutes guaranteed. No steam after being bitten into and the sauce in the bottom was room temp at best. However the potatoes were the ONLY thing that tasted good from the brunch menu. So lesson learned.

    Taquitos

Always a vibe when you come to limón y sal. We chose to come for a quick snack and ordered ; micheladas , taquitos, choriqueso & chips/salsa. The taquitos come with guacamole (just blended avocado it seemed ) so we upgraded to guacamole preparado and that was much better. The michelada was a "small" but much bigger than expected ! Service was wonderful so definitely coming back !

Went on a Wednesday and had a reservation. Was seated promptly. Parking is all over the place in St Matt's. Service was fine until the end. Our waiter could not figure out how to split a check and figure out who got what. Had to request the help of someone else to assist which took 20+ minutes. Besides that everyone enjoyed their cocktails and food. Really enjoyed the Mexican rice bowl.

Recently enjoyed a great lunch at this location. It was a mild weather day and we enjoyed sitting on the outdoor patio. Our group ordered a variety of appetizers and my meal was the steak quesadilla. Everything we tried was quite good and the service was very accommodating. Look forward to returning!

    Ground Beef Taco Salad

It was a Saturday night and we decided to try this new location. The restaurant was very appealing, bright and and cheery. It was nicely decorated with a large bar in the middle. We were happy to be able to get seated without a wait. The bourbon margarita was delicious. I would highly recommend this. I ordered the taco salad. I actually would not recommend the taco salad. It was very bland. It was served on a large taco shell. It had the ground beef, lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, and a few tomatoes. Not even any cheese. There were some very large chunks mushed together of the ground beef that wasn't very appealing. The restaurant itself was nice so I do feel like I will be back to try a different menu item and definitely a delicious cocktail.

Awesome spot! Margarita flights are delicious and have so many creative flavors to choose from, and the space is great, both inside and out!

The lounge seating setup was a little unconventional, but the staff quickly accommodated us when I mentioned a concern, which I really appreciated. The service was outstanding. I wish I could remember our server's name because he truly made the experience. He handled the entire lounge area by himself and never missed a beat -- personable, knowledgeable, attentive, and incredibly efficient. We ordered a few cocktails along with the hush puppies, Cajun calamari, and Brussels sprouts. The drinks were fantastic, and while the appetizers were good, they weren't quite memorable enough for us to reorder next time. That said, we're definitely planning to come back and explore more of the menu. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend checking out Black Rabbit for yourself. It's a great spot for either a romantic date night or a fun evening out with friends.

Since this restaurant has a speakeasy vibe, I thought it might be part of the schtick. However, I'm not sure how long the business has been open, so maybe the GPS was accurate. Our dinner host who made the reservation had told our group the "password" in order to be taken to our private dining room. When I arrived and approached the hostess stand, she took me via a convoluted route to the rest of the diners, no password required. I guess I was lucky because other diners in our group said they had to provide the password. We arrived during happy hour and it was also martini night, so several items from the appetizer menu (wings, spinach dip, tempura shrimp) and cocktail list were available for reduced price. I ordered tempura shrimp (5 pieces) and a glass of Malbec. The shrimp were bland and were served with a sweet chili sauce that was cloyingly sweet with absolutely no heat. I ended up ordering a bourbon roasted pear salad as my main. It was a better choice with buttery lettuce, chunks of firm pear, crunchy walnuts, and pickled red onions. One of my fellow diners had to wait for her first course appetizer to arrive well after the rest of us had finished ours, as it was either overlooked by waitstaff or the kitchen. Service was slow at times, although the place appeared at not even 1/2 capacity when we arrived and possibly 2/3 when we left 2 hours later. Another diner ordered pizza and said that the toppings were good, but commented that the texture of the crust (underdone) made it unpalatable. Finally, another person in our group had to send her food back to be heated. She indicated the plate was warm, but the food (pot roast Manhattan) was not. Final bill was just under $50 (happy hour shrimp $10, wine $11, salad $18, and an automatic 20% gratuity had been added). Upon reflection, I would perhaps return here for a cocktail to enjoy the lounge and live jazz when that is offered. I would be very hard pressed though to order any food, as there are many more valuable and appealing options nearby at this price point.

We started with a Paloma recommended by Ethan (bartender and apparently low-key rockstar). It was refreshing, perfectly balanced, and an excellent recommendation.. We chatted mezcal, music, and more--Ethan's the kind of bartender who makes you feel like a regular on your first visit. Got to talk mezcal with the owner, John, who's clearly passionate and seriously knowledgeable. He shared stories about sourcing, traveling, and working directly with producers. Learned more in 10 minutes from him than I have from any spirit tasting I've done.
