When to taco or not to taco is the question; especially when it's a Tuesday! This is a local restaurant and celebrates the history of Spanish culture and cuisine traditions. Throughout the inside of the restaurant the mantel is adorned with all sorts of beautiful things. The staff here are friendly, but the few times we have ordered here they actually speak "Spanish." Our language of speaking Spanish is not very good. So we have eaten items here normally we would not have because of the language barrier. Beware the chicken is very hot. And when we ordered this item, it was too hot at times. The taste was great but cooked hot. Now for us that want an option for vegetarian they off that choice as well. The vegan version is also available. These variations are well planned out and actually part of the menu. Now the spooky season is available each time that you visit here. It seems if you're in a different area when you dine in here . The best places are often off the beaten path. We happened to stumbled onto this one during Taco Tuesday. Make sure and have dessert. After walking with our kids across the Big Four, I'm so grateful that we found La Catrina for dinner and margaritas. (Definitely the margaritas!) La Catrina is in a small building, about a block from the bridge. And we were able to get a table on the patio for our family plus the friends and their kids who were walking the bridge with us. Our server was quick and attentive. I got a margarita, which hit the spot. We enjoyed the chips and dips appetizer. For my meal, I got the Tex-I-Can burrito, made with brisket, black beans, herb lime rice, chihuahua cheese and salsa. It came highly recommended by our server, and I'm glad I listened to him. My kids got cheese quesadillas that they enjoyed. One other fun thing: Be sure to check out the ladies restroom if you go. There's pink neon hung on the wall that changes the color of the wallpaper depending on if you have the overhead lights on or not, which my daughter thought was the coolest thing. La Catrina has a great vibe that works well for adults or families -- a great stop if you're walking the bridge. read more

We had a disastrous day at a "so-called" craft festival in Jeffersonville. So, we decided to salvage the day at LaCatrina. We sat outside on the patio, because we had our pup with us. Our server quickly came and took our drink orders. I went with a large margarita. My wife, disappointed when told there were no beers on draft, asked for a bottled beer. She was brought a Miller Light in an aluminum "bottle". We finally got a Corona Light in a glass bottle. We ordered a shareable order of nachos. The nachos were actually pretty good. But since they were shareable, one would think the server would know to bring extra plates. Nope. Maybe even extra napkins? Nope. My wife decided she also wanted a small salad. The server suggested the Cobb salad. She was able to make it a small at half price. But, a Cobb "salad" requires lettuce. There were a few shreds buried amongst the cheese, chips & chicken. Essentially, another order of nachos, with ranch dressing. We asked for some salsa and our server made a point of telling us there was no charge. Typically, LaCatrina charges $3 for chips & salsa. The menu is quite limited. La Catrina doesn't try to be a full service restaurant. Tacos. Burritos. Quesadilla. Tamales. No enchiladas. No fajitas. So, fair service. Easily solved with better training. And decent food, but nothing to really set La Catrina apart from the pack. Except maybe the gummy worm that came with my margarita. read more

I got Baja Quesadilla it was the best item I ate, but it wasn't a quesadilla. It was more of a taco and the lettice and tomato and jalapeño that accompanied it was so hot, I couldn't eat it. I also got the Quesa Birria Taco, it was fair, pretty hot, but I'd rather have it on a flour tortilla rather than a corn tortilla. I also tried the Los Cabos fish taco, it was extremely hot and a little fishy. I tried the chips and salsa, chips were stale, salsa was pretty hot, but needed to be sweeter. The margarita was great! I recommend going to Agave and Rye in place of La Catrina and try the Beria tacos, they are amazing. read more

This section of the city is alive with people walking, playing games at the Gameyard next door, and generally just enjoying a lovely spring night. I started with a sangria, which was delicious and very refreshing, and then we ordered the chips and salsa. I ordered three tacos as my entree and I chose: 1) Quesabirria (Mole-glazed brisket, queso asadero, salsa cruda, serrano pickled onion, queso fresco, cilantro). This was my least favorite, it was too heavy and greasy for my liking 2) Gobernador (Grilled shrimp, onion, poblano, queso asadero, roasted tomatillo crema, cilantro) 2nd best, if I got it next time I would ask for no cheese, it weighed down the flavors and didn't really add anything in my opinion 3) Los Cabos Fish (Cerveza-battered cod, red cabbage, chipotle aioli, pickled red onion, cilantro) My favorite and really nicely made. read more

The ambiance and atmosphere is great, everything else - not so much. I ordered the Diabla burrito, and the server was very serious and warned me that the salsa habanero was very spicy, which I agreed to. The burrito was on the smaller side and was 75% rice and less than 25% shrimp, and bland. It wasn't even slightly spicy, so much that I asked for hot sauce, and was never brought any. There were 4 at our table, and all had empty glasses for quite a long time and had to flag down the server to get refills and order additional food. Came here before an event at Big Four Lawn across the river in KY during odd lunch hours. We were seated immediately at the bar, next to the beautiful ofrenda they have set up. The service was very quick to bring us menus, waters, and ask what we wanted. I opted for the chicken burrito, the vegan taco, and chips and salsa. The burrito was FULL of delicious chicken and came with a really tasty cream sauce that was great for pouring. The chips and salsa were delicious. And the vegan taco also was great. All the flavors were amazing. It was also a friend's birthday, so they brought her out free churros. Tbh, the the best churros I've ever had. When we first walked in it was empty. We waited a little while and finally someone came to sit us. At first I was really nervous for the food based on that. Oh my gosh this place ended up being awesome. They sat us upstairs where more people ended up being. We also saw a little paper sign with a hand written note saying Fridays and Saturdays you can get a tall top shelf margarita for 9 bucks. The drinks were phenomenal. The margaritas were super sour and delicious! They were strong. I got the nachos, and they let be substitute the meat for their zucchini's. Definitely without a doubt the best nachos in this area that I've had. The tacos looked okay that my friend ordered. The burrito my other friend ordered looked really good. My buddy and I went here on Thursday evening and we walked up stairs to the hostess. They sent us outside where we would like to sit. The view and the scenery was nice. I will say. A waiter approached does he was not very friendly. he didn't really speak to us or too much honestly, we ordered couple drinks and we got queso and chips and then my buddy wanted some salsa and chips. He didn't bring chips with the salsa so we had to ask for more and I will say the queso salsa and chips were the only good part of the meal. I ordered a brisket burrito and unfortunately, there was zero meat in. It had a few morsels of meat and it was just rice and some kind of purple colored beans not good. My friend got a chicken taco and a beef taco. Both of them were purple colored tortillas, which was interesting, but he said that his tacos were a one out of five so overall, I'm gonna give us place at two for the chips and quesoand the scenery. Ordered on line for pickup - no parking whatsoever - ordered three Tacos & two Burritos all of which were extremely soggy you couldn't even pick them up and to top it off when I got home they had shorted me one taco so two not three. Called them about the missing Taco - they said I could come pick it up. Asked about just putting the Taco back on my card they took my number said they'd call management to find out if that could even be done or not they'd keep me updated. Prices for each taco were relatively low, so I thought the tacos would be small, but these were two full size tacos with the perfect amount of filling. The food was average, the margarita I got tasted like syrup! There was little to no tequila present. But really disappointed me was I was charged extra miscellaneous fees! When I receive my bill my $9 margarita was on there and underneath was an extra charge $4.99. I asked my server what the charge was for and she said it was because I ordered a grande margarita and got flavor. When I looked at the menu there was no option to choose different size margaritas, only one standard size, and the flavors were not an additional charge.. it was straight $9. I showed the server the menu and she said she ddnt know why that was just how it rang up on the computer! I asked to speak to a supervisor, she left and came back with a new check stating that she changed it because the supervisor didn't feel like dealing with the situation! When I looked at the new bill there was a $3 miscellaneous charge. I asked the server again about this addl charge and she said it was because I got a chicken burrito instead on steak!!!! Now I must look like a clown because everybody knows that beef cost more than chicken! Plus both the chicken and beef burritos were $12.75! At this point I demand a supervisor and she tells me no because the supervisor is busy doing payroll and doesn't have time! I wanted to go off but remained cool because at this point the server was trying to insult my intelligence! I had really high hopes for this place because I've heard good things. My friends and i haven't even made it through the door before the hostess made a snarky comment about us closing the door. I know we're in the middle of a heat wave and the cost of AC is a lot, but we're not inconsiderate people and we hadn't even all made it through the door. We were instructed on exactly where to sit and where to stand while waiting for our table, which was extremely off putting. We finally got our table and we were put in the upstairs of the restaurant, which was completely fine, except for the fact that it was 82 degrees in the room. So it made me mad that we got yelled at to close the door because of the heat, yet we sat trying to enjoy our dinner with sweat rolling down our backs. Our service was terrible to say the least. I understand it was a Friday night and they're probably understaffed. We waited 30 minutes for our food and as soon as our plates were in front of us, we were told that the kitchen closed and we weren't getting anything else and this was an hour before they closed. They also didn't have any music playing, so we sat in silence listening to each other chew our food. The food was pretty decent, except the portions are TINY. I wasn't full after eating all my food We had to go get our waitress in order to pay for our meals. The waitress came back and assumed we were all on separate checks, which we weren't. She then seemed inconvenienced by having to combine checks even though she never asked how the checks would be. read more

I got two Los cabos cod fish tacos. they were 525 a piece - not sure if that is a good deal but it might be. They were served on unique purple soft tortillas. Absolutely delicious. I also got a seven dollar margarita on ice but I think that was too expensive for what little amount you get. I enjoyed the environment. on a Thursday afternoon it was quiet and relaxed and not busy but the set up of the place was really nice. The server was kind and attentive. After we walked over the walking bridge from Kentucky to Indiana yesterday we stopped at the new La Catrina Tacos and Tequila for lunch. The food was absolutely delicious and we loved the atmosphere and decorations. I had a carnita taco and the chicken quesadilla with a peach margarita. My husband had the cob salad and a mojito. The food was great as was my drink. The mojito was sweeter than they typically are which was kinda odd. I have been to the New Albany location several times and have always really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, my favorite drink isn't available at the new location which was actually why I wanted to eat there. Hopefully, they'll eventually add the spiked horchata as they continue to revamp their menu (the server said they are moving from a fast service restaurant to a full service one). The service was also a little slow. Those are truly my only two complaints and they aren't enough to stop me from eating there again. read more

Good service and the outdoor seating is pretty nice. They try to be too fancy with their tacos rather than making them taste good. I was really disappointed mainly because of the service. Upon entering the main area, not even 2 seconds passed before the woman in the hostess area tells me "shut the door NOW so air doesn't come out" without even giving me a chance to walk inside the building. If it wasn't for the fact I was with a large group, I would have walked back out the door immediately. Moreover, the service once we actually got seated was also pretty bad. It was very slow and our waitress seemed not in a rush to take orders (we waited quite a while before order our dinner). I don't think I'll be a rush to try this place again anytime soon. read more

We stumbled upon this place after having no luck being seated at the neighboring restaurants. It wasn't very busy and the patio was cute and enticing so we figured why not. We were seated by the hostess who seemed flustered or stressed out but she was nice. We were seated next to a table who only had menus and more people were coming in behind us. One server stopped at the table next to us and asked if they had been helped and quickly walked away. Another table was seated shortly after us and got the same server almost immediately. The patio is not big and the tables are close together, I don't know how we weren't seen. 20 minutes go by and I finally walk in to grab a server. I overhear another customer asking a different server for the same thing. Our server finally came around, apologized and we get our orders in. Another table is then seated behind us and ends up leaving after not being greeted by a server. This kept happening at other tables around us. I can understand if they were short staffed but it just seemed like no one wanted to be there and do their job. This place is located between two very popular restaurants by the river, the staff could do a better job with handling the overflow that comes in. But besides that, the food was really good. I'd definitely come back for the salmon taco. As for drinks, we got sangrias and they were terrible. Basically tasted like water with a drop of sangria. I'd like to give this place another chance because there is potential but unfortunately we didn't have the greatest first experience. Maybe next time! read more

We love this restaurant. Tonight was our third visit! Food is fantastic! Service is fantastic!! The manager went out of her way to move a table outside for us. Our service was so good. We normally have Darrien as our server and he's great but our girl tonight was great too! The ceviche was incredible! The nachos are fantastic! My husband and I own a catering company.
