It's a diner - so it's a 5 star diner but a 4 restaurant-- so I wish there was a 4.5. I think a huge miss for them is not having fresh squeezed oj, I think it's a big differentiator and would place them in a better category. But selection huge and cappuccino is solid. Also suggest more soup selection: there is one of the day but that's it. The service was outstanding: nice, quick and the server recommended her favorites which were all awesome (fish sandwich, French fries and calamari is what she liked and all were great.) Popular diner with great staff and a fun keys vibe. We visited twice for breakfast. Both times were very busy. The best thing about this place is the staff. They are super-friendly and pleasant to everyone. We tried a few different things here. I knew I didn't have enough appetite to try the French toast sampler on my own but my husband wasn't interested, so I ordered the plain. It was a good rendition. Of course, it's hard to make an impression with the basics. The bacon came out perfect and I can give them high praise for this (we're passionate about bacon). It was crispy and flavorful. Yum! Some of the other things were good but we seemed to have a few "if only" moments regarding our personal preferences. My husband ordered an omelet which included asparagus. He thought it tasted great but had expected them to add asparagus as cut pieces to make it easier to eat. Instead, the omelet came apart as he attempted to cut the long pieces of asparagus. Another item contained walnuts (not listed on menu), which neither of us particularly enjoy. (Not allergic, just taste-specific for us.) No pictures from either visit. Stopped by this joint on the way to Key West, mainly because I'm a huge fan of the show Bloodline and this place had a couple appearances. I got biscuits and gravy and a side of bacon. The pictures of my food are better than the food - but doesn't mean it wasn't good. It was good. The biscuits and gravy looked a lot like my grandmothers in reviews but were closer to store bought gravy mix. Biscuits didn't taste fresh but were good enough. I'd definitely go back and try some other items on the menu. Happy to see these guys survived a two month closure from Covid. Wish them the best and look forward to returning. read more

Temperature checks, spread out tables and stringent mask wearing made us feel safe when we came to mangroves mikes a few weeks ago for breakfast. My boyfriend had a hogfish wrap that he was really happy with and he's not impressed so easily. I don't order fish wraps because I often find that they're soggy, but this one was flavorful without the sogginess. I had a traditional eggs and toast breakfast with hashbrowns. Everything was cooked exactly the way I asked. Service was no frills and efficient. When we asked for salt and pepper and ketchup it all came in disposable packets. Tucked away next to an art gallery and hotel, you find a fishing themed restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Mangrove mikes is plastered in fishing/ocean/reef decor and I love it. Upon entering, the staff greets you immediately. They have a center island counter as well as plenty of tables. We waited about 5 mins before being seated at the counter. Our waitress was very attentive, bubbly and fun to converse with. She took our orders and food came out fast. The coffee was hot and delicious, even if it was a little slow on refill. We got the specials for breakfast of the hog fish benedict and the shrimp and asparagus omlette. Bith were delicious and came with tots. The tots were superb! Very crisp and fresh. Definitely a favorite local spot after being seated it was obvious they don't depend wholly on the traffic going to or coming back from the Lower Keys. The owners seemed to know everyone by name this also trickled down to the servers. Although I love the local flavor it can be a little frustrating for those of us that are just looking for a good breakfast spot. Our server was a very young woman who just couldn't help but engage her friends on the antics of last night or last week. Our extended waits between ordering our drinks, getting our drinks and placing our breakfast order was way to long as busy as the place was I am sure the owners would like the tables turned a little quicker. - Ham and Cheese Omelet - This was really good although it was cooked on a flat top which tends to thin out the egg and forced the cook to fold it multiple times verses fluffy and light it wasn't a bad choice but an omelet pan would do wonders for this place. - Ham Slice - This was a nice slice of quality ham grilled perfectly, very tender and flavorful. - Scrambled Eggs - Also cooked on a flat top a little dried out for my taste I think fried or poached eggs to order would be a better choice. - Home Fries and Hash Browns - We had an order of both they were both just okay the home fries were small red potatoes grilled tender no crunch no onions or peppers. The hash browns were marked on both sides but not crispy as ordered if you like more potato verse crispy you will enjoy these. - Coffee - The coffee is really good I wish they would of had fresh half and half in small chilled pitchers verse the shelf stable food service cups that sit in a bowl on the table just think this would add a lot of value to this place. To summarize, this is a nice little diner with a lot of hometown feel. I would like to have had more coffee and not had to wait on my check so that's my issue. Can I give more than 5-stars? Dang. Mr. Mike is on top if it here. Delicious food, great service, very organized and managed restaurant. Food was perfect, cappuccino was an unexpected treat. Definitely come here for your next breakfast while in the upper keys. Florentine omelet was perfectly cooked with fresh spinach and tomatoes and loaded with feta ( not overkill tho). The super special was also good. I upgraded to fresh berries and they were perfectly ripe and fresh. Sad done me with an espresso cup and asked if they served espresso. The gentleman said yes and suggested cappuccino as well, yes! A win. I ordered a yummy cap to finish off my delicious breakfast. Watched this well oiled machine operate flawlessly!! And it is a machine with very busy, very happy customers and staff, churning out plates, cleaning tables, ensuring the happiness of all. Wow! Wow! Wow! Can this guy own all the restaurants please? We came here for breakfast one morning on our drive down to Key West. It definitely has a fun casual tropical vibe. We were seated right away and our server got us all our drinks of choice super quick! I got their cinnamon roll french toast and my husband got the breakfast tater tot tower as did my parents. Food came out super quick and piping hot. The kitchen did forget eggs for one tower but our server got that squared away quickly! Food was tasty and portions were large. Everything we had was amazing! We had the coffee cake French toast, hash browns, biscuit and eggs. The French toast was delicious no syrup needed. The hash browns had a good mix of crispy and soft potatoes. The biscuit was cut in half and griddled for an extra nice touch. They are checking temperatures and only seating 1/2 the tables.
