***3 1/2 stars***…read more All Star Bagel got our business by default, but that's not necessarily a negative. I came here with my top-tier chum to grab a bite this past Saturday before hitting the beach. The downtown area of Ocean Grove is super tiny so there aren't a lot of breakfast games in town. We saw a bakery across the street with a line snaking out the door, and decided to go with the other open establishment within our line of sight that didn't have a line. That was that. There were a handful of customers waiting for sandwiches/bagels, but the line moved and we were in and out of there in less than 10 minutes. This is probably the least bougie spot we frequented over the weekend, and again, not an insult. This is pretty much dictionary definition bagel shop - no frills, just efficient bagel ordering/processing. I don't recall a seating area but if there was one, it was only one or two tables; this is a place you grab something to go, not hang out and mingle. There's a refrigerated area with some drinks, but most of the square footage is devoted to the work in the back, where everyone was super busy. We showed up probably around 8am or a little after and it was hopping. OG is not a party town, and this was exhibit A. Neither of us was insanely hungry (case in point - my chum finished off her order the next day), but I thought it was important to get a few carbs in before the adventures started. I went with a classic bacon egg & cheese on a roll, and my chum got an everything bagel, I think with some stuff on it. Perfectly fine. To me, it's pretty difficult to mess up a breakfast sandwich. My only quibble is that the ingredient equilibrium was a bit off - this was heavy on the cheese versus the egg. I'm sure tons of people are into that, but I like to be able to legit taste all three players. Otherwise though, did exactly what it was supposed to. I don't usually heavy breakfasts like this unless I'm on vacation (I'm a Wheaties adherent 99% of the time), but this was good. No issues, just pretty run of the mill. And given that we literally had two options, this was an acceptable second choice.

My husband and I wandered over for a take out breakfast around 10:30am this morning. I was hoping…read moreto get an omelette and apparently they don't make Omelettes when they are too busy- bummer. I ordered the eggs, home fries and ham (they forgot the ham). The place seems popular- there was a solid line to get in and then a line to order. Docking 2 stars because of the missing side and more importantly- the extremely rude woman taking orders from customers. I'm not going back out of the sheer reason I don't want to encounter her again.

What About A Bagel has been one of my go-to spots in Oakhurst, NJ for a while now--and for good…read morereason. Living just around the corner, I've stopped in plenty of times and have never left disappointed. Today was no different. We ordered two pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwiches--one on an everything bagel with salt, pepper, and ketchup, and the other on a plain bagel with no extras. Even though it was pretty busy (as it often is), we only waited about 15 minutes, and the food was piping hot when we picked it up. By the time we got home, it was still hot--something you don't always get, even with short drives. The order was 100% accurate, which I appreciate, especially on busy mornings. The place was buzzing with regulars and weekend traffic, but it was clean and well-kept. The staff was clearly hustling behind the counter, but still managed to stay friendly and upbeat. You can tell they're used to the morning rush, and they handle it with a smile. One thing that always stands out is how happy people seem with their coffee--lots of customers chatting or hanging out with a fresh cup in hand. It's that kind of local energy that makes this spot special. The food is consistent, the atmosphere is welcoming, and it always hits the spot. Whether it's your first visit or your fiftieth, What About A Bagel delivers a solid breakfast experience that keeps you coming back.

Their everything bagel has no competition, in my opinion. This place is packed to the brim on Saturdays and Sundays and families endlessly crowd this place to enjoy their go-to staple: the bagel. Personally, I very much enjoy their dozen bagels to go as a grab and go for my busy morning commuting to work. (You also get an extra for a dozen) A+ for their sausage or bacon egg or pork roll egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches, which clearly satiate every bit of your morning craving. The owners are also extremely nice and have run an awesome establishment for decades. Great family atmosphere, be sure to stop by and try their brunch selections.
