We are in the Heights section of Spring Lake and found the local bagelry. Doesn't every town have one or more? Breakfast and lunch are served here. Had a yen for Pork Roll egg & cheese on a bagel. This bagel place was not it. I heard great things, but it didn't do it for me. placed an order for pickup for salt bagel with plain cream cheese and an everything bagel with sausage egg and cheese. Salt bagel had no salt on it? It seemed to have all burned off? And the cream cheese was not homemade. Sausage egg and cheese had liquid eggs on it and not real eggs, not sure how you can do that these days. Picked up and had to clear the green apple smoke haze out of my way from the cashiers vape. A business owner should always know why a customer will never darken their doorstep again. In this case it wasn't the soft undercooked bagels or what I can only assume was a significant overcharge. 4 bagels @ $1.20=$4.80 + 1 piece of coffee cake @ $2.25 = $7.05 + a tub of cream cheese that was apparently $7.50 to get the total with tax to $15.60! No, this time it was the Captain of Industry (by that I mean bagel shop owner or manager with 6 employees) that felt the need to humiliate a young lady - not for lack of work - but for cleaning tables when it was apparently someone else's function in front of the entire staff and every customer. And just in case she didn't understand the reprimand, he felt the need to keep at it. He didn't really raise his voice but everyone was thrown by it. My guess is the young lady filling my order was distracted and accidentally over charged us. That is, if the owner isn't planning to retire to Hawaii on cream cheese sales. Perhaps he was a marine corps officer just returning from overseas duty and thought he should treat a 14 year old the same as his seasoned soldiers. I'm sure he had a really good reason and tremendous business acumen to determine the best way to help foster work skills in his young staff is to embarrass them in public rather than correct perceived deficiencies in private. Initially I was excited to learn about this place which is a few blocks away from my summer house. Like most people, I require a fat bagel sandwich and Gatorade following any given night at the shore. My Taylor ham egg and cheese dreams deflated rather quickly due to the repeated awful service I experienced. I've been here at a different times of the day, including when it's not crowded or I'm the only customer at the counter. Not once in my few visits was my order done correctly. There's also a general slowness about the place, that can be easily improved with employees who listen to customers. Went here today for the first time. My husband got a bagel with "homemade" strawberry cream cheese and I got a pork roll egg and cheese on a sesame bagel. The bagels were ok. Not quite as soft as lenders. The eggs were pretty gross. They were scrambled and just...nasty. I've had these bagels a few times as a bagel sandwich - loaded with an egg, cheese and some breakfast meat they do the job. Which is to hold it all together till it gets in my mouth. But, just last weekend we bought a half dozen different flavored bagels to eat with cream cheese. I'm sad to say it was no better than a Lender's bagel you could find in your grocer's freezer. Fantastic bagels. I stopped on my way back from a campground about 5 miles away. I had a bacon and egg on a cheddar bagel. I have never had a cheddar bagel before (obviously being from NJ I have had 100 other kinds of bagels) but it was definitely the right choice. My boyfriend had a bacon, egg and cheese on everything. We ate the sandwiches so fast because they were delicious. There was a small line when we got there but we were in and out of the store in 10 minutes. If you want lunch, they handle that too with great wraps, subs, and sandwiches. This is my "go-to" spot in Spring Lake Heights....I can literally walk there and I go there all the time. The bagels are big and delicious. They serve them with a variety of cream cheeses too, which is nice. The cold subs/sandwiches are very tasty too and their burgers are good as well.
