I was scammed I entered into a contract with Manhattan Publishing House almost seven months ago. Everything seemed to be legit, and I was assigned to a "project Manager " named Joshua. After months of back-and-forth emails and editing, there were duplications in the narration from chapter to chapter. I was told there was a "team" editing my 105,000-plus-word manuscript. I realized there was no coordination among the different people working on my project. Chapters one and two had the same info included after their "final" edits. I contacted them about this and was told by Joshua that he agreed, and one person should work on my book. After working on only the manuscript's first three chapters for seven months, they never received final, acceptable developmental editing! I attempted to meet with Joshua in person, and before traveling from Boston to NY, I was told by phone that he was ill and that the New York office was closed as a result. Months later, I decided to meet with him again and was told he was now out of the country! I finally decided to travel from Boston to NYC to meet with ANYONE at their office. Upon going to 448 Broadway (Their listed address), I was shocked to find out ....They have no physical office there! I called the number listed and was told by a Rick Jordon that "we are an online company and to meet anyone in person will cost you more money!" Obviously, I had been scammed and am now taking legal action to recover my money. My advice is to stay away from this company !!.....(Though they promised a full refund, I have not received it .) I am very disappointed. read more

Upon arriving at the address listed on Yelp and their website (which is a multi occupancy office building) - the doors were locked with a nondescript intercom system. I called them to try to figure out how to get in. Nobody picked up, but the message proclaimed that they were 'open and operating but couldn't get to the phone.' I wandered around a bit more and found the REAL entrance, located at 520 8th Avenue. I went to check in at the security desk as required, and was turned away by the security guard because apparently, they are appointment-only. That seems odd for a supposedly 24 hour establishment. I did not see this on the website, nor was it mentioned in their phone message. Long story short, wasted so much time going to this place, trying to get in, trying to get a hold of them, trying to get past security, and with nothing to show for it. Will not be trying this business again.

I confirmed by phone that they offered passport photos for Europe and that no appointment was needed, just walk in during their open hours. I arrived later that day and was impressed at how quickly and professionally they processed my passport photos for Greece. I got 4 for $20 even, and they were cut to the exact size (you have to cut them yourself at CVS and are expensive at $17.99 for the really low quality you are getting), and they provided a mini manila envelope to store them. The little envelope fit perfectly in my wallet. I was really pleased, especially as I had had a prior subpar experience at CVS trying to get these photos. Additionally, Luster provides a plethora of other photo services, so good to keep them in mind for such things.

I placed an order through their canadian site and got sent a paypal link in USD. In fact, the only station in the city open on Sundays and a lifesaver for those who started writing holiday cards on the Friday before Christmas. Peering into the "envelopes" mail slot, thousands of pieces of mail were visibly overflowing the sacks, requiring some gingerly wedging of my small booklet-worth of correspondence in between others. Fingers crossed all made it out ok! Shoutout to one of two staff working the two open counters at 5pm on Sunday December 21, you were friendly, prompt and helpful and put your best foot forward for terrific customer service. Only 2 counters were open and the line was about a dozen people long, steadily moving. For service--a solid 5 stars. Facilities are as expected a bit on the older side, being built in 1912 as part of the original Penn Station complex, though the modern conveniences of tap-to-pay technology and self-service weigh/postage stations are available. Waiting in line, the details on the ceiling caught my attention. Maybe because the darker evening outside accentuated the brighter interior, the simultaneously ornamental, scrolling flourishes fitted in repeating geometric patterns stood out in ways I hadn't noticed before. Come to find after some googling the ceiling is decorated with the country seals of 11 countries including the US, the countries part of the universal postal union at the time of construction, an administrative body now under the purview of the United Nations that handles international shipping policies. Not very fun facts: designated a national historic landmark in 1973 and re-named after James Farley, 53rd U.S. Postmaster General in 1982. Previously generically named the General Post Office. Slightly more fun fact: atop the facade along 8th Avenue the inscription reads, "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." Some may confuse this to be the creed of the U.S. Postal Service, but it's actually not. Rather, it's tied to the tribute that building architect William Mitchell Kendall paid to major historical figures credited with postal advancements. This is an excerpt out of Herodotus's 'Histories', which described the messenger system established in Persia by Cyrus the Great.
