    Ribeye and bone marrow tacos

Stopped in with my mom for a bite and a drink while visiting Geneva. The space is lovely, and since we arrived early, it wasn't too busy. We initially tried to dine at Tia Carmen's downstairs, but the wait was too long--so we headed upstairs to Revolución instead. We were among the first guests. The service was friendly, though not particularly attentive. Our server didn't check in often, and we had to wait quite a while for water--thankfully, the busser eventually stepped in and kept our glasses full. The food was tasty overall. We weren't fans of the chips served with the guacamole; they were more like plain tortillas--dry and lacking salt. That said, the rest of the meal was enjoyable. My suggestion to management: even when it's slow, make sure tables have water and guests are checked on regularly. A little extra attentiveness would go a long way in improving the experience.

My husband and I accidentally ended up here when we were attempting to go to Tia Carmen's. We originally put our name in at Tia Carmen's which is below Revolucion. We were waiting and saw some people go upstairs, so we assumed there was an upstairs bar area. We asked the hostess if the full menu was available upstairs and if we could sit up there. She said yes to both. The place is a Mexican speak easy type vibe. We came here on a Saturday. They had a "DJ" playing music and later in the evening they had fun lights that made the ambiance fun. The seating was comfortable as well. It is a small space. We got upstairs and found a table and 2 waitresses asked us if we had a reservation. We said no and they said they needed to check and see if we could sit there. It was awkward and we were confused because the hostess had said we could go up there and we didn't think Tia Carmen's took reservations (they don't). After a couple of minutes we were told that we could stay and that the hostess downstairs was new. Once we were seated we realized that 1. This was not an extra seating place for Tia Carmen's and 2. That the menus were also different. This wasn't a problem though. When our waitress first came to our table she was very knowledgeable about the spirits that they had. We ordered drinks. She left and then came back a few minutes later and we ordered the chips and salsa. About 10-15 minutes later our chips and salsa arrived but we still didn't have our drinks. When we asked about the drinks she said "they are special made and take longer to make" *insert a massive eye roll here* It does not take longer to make 2 margaritas. It shouldn't take 10-15+ minutes to make one. Our drinks quickly came after that. The drinks were great, we really liked them. Mine came in a wide mouthed margarita glass. I had to ask for a straw because there was a lot of ice and at a certain point I couldn't drink without an ice cube escaping. We enjoyed the salsas and bean dip but did not care for the tostadas they brought out to dip in them. I prefer actual chips and they lacked flavor and did not taste great. My husband's meal came out first. He ordered the carne asada tacos. My food didn't come out until 8 minutes later. Yes, I did look at the time. At that point our waitress Kyra had not checked on us since she took our order, which was when she brought us our drinks. Our waitress walked past us numerous times seeing that I didn't have my food and my husband did. My food finally arrived. I got the quesadilla with chicken. It was so good. It was not a typical quesadilla and was very filling. Once our plates were cleared our waitress asked us how our food was. That was the first time she had checked on us. She never once checked in once we received our food. She never asked us if we wanted another drink either, which we would have ordered had she come by and asked. Overall 3 stars: Drinks 4 stars Appetizer 2.5 stars Food 4.5 stars Service 2 stars

REVOLUCIÓN is a new mezcal and tequila bar in downtown Geneva. I found it through Facebook as the owners own another restaurant (Hacienda Real) that I am a fan of. I particularly wanted to try this one because of their tapas style plates and some of the food listed in their menu like lamb barbacoa tacos which are authentic and hard to find. The staff were welcoming and very attentive throughout the night. They were super accommodating as I asked for a bigger table if they had one available as some of the 2 person tables were a bit smaller. Our server Rosa was so awesome, she was excited to chat about the food and drinks and really knew her stuff. Although it's tapas style the portions are pretty generous so come prepared to eat a whole meal lol not a bad thing just good to know for future visits. They are advertised as a bar but their food is great for a sit down dinner and drinks. It looks like they might have a DJ for future weekend nights as well. Will definitely be returning!

Cozy, beautifully decorated dining area. Epic Birria Tacos. An impressive selection of liquors, including Fortaleza Tequila (IYKYK).

My hubby and I walked to Revolución for lunch on a blustery, bitterly cold January Saturday. We were warmly welcomed by the attentive staff and the relaxing atmosphere. The eclectic decor was really fun and hip, with good acoustics for conversation and excellent lighting. The dishes were presented beautifully, obviously made with love and creativity while being super unique and absolutely delicous. We were truly blown away and will be returning for every item we ordered - the Guacamole, Tostadas De Atún, Esquite Crujiente and Chicken Wings Al Pibil. A+ food, A+ service A+ ambiance! Enjoy my tempting pics of the culinary carnival we were treated to at Geneva's Gem - Revolucion!

We also had the lobster pasta wow on the sauce and they were NOT shy with the lobster! Which also was fresh and delicious! We then spilt the sea bass fish which they spilt up and brought us out our own dishes, and the owner and head chef delivered to our table himself which was such an awesome touch! On my…read morevisit here, I had the opportunity to try two dishes off the shareables menu and was super impressed with both of them. Service was also quick and friendly throughout the entire meal. The Birria egg rolls were a bit on the smaller side but made a big impression with its preparation. I've never had birria wrapped in anything as crispy as the wonton wrapper this was wrapped in. The birria was flavorful while being tender and not being too salty. The white cheddar and chihuahua cheese added a small amount of extra saltiness and a bit more fat, which matched well with the chipotle aiola. The duck poutine was incredibly flavorful, while sitting on the edge of potentially being too bold. The fries were incredibly crispy though there was quite a bit of gravy on the dish and the white cheddar cheese curds did a great job of keeping the entire dish hot throughout the meal, while adding a little bit of extra flavor. The bacon and onion added some umami though it almost made the dish a bit too salty and the duck confit added a nice protein element. Overall a little pricey, but given the more unique menu and quality of both the flavors and textures, it's worth the premium. The food here is definitely memorable and in line with excellent options available in Geneva.

I'm going to leave my honest review while also noting what I saw from other people -FOOD is actually really good here! And it's gotten better since they first opened. They added a lot of stuff recently. My first time there I had a wrap that was huge and really good, fries are epic. -DRINKS Their beer wall is literally local, not "fake local" with Chicago beers lol. They have a really wide range of things at the bar and cocktails were cool, but I haven't tried too many of them. -GAMEPLAY has content deals going on, huge selection of games, impressive variety for the space. -VIBE is EPICCCCC. They hit the sweet spot for being kid friendly, corporate friendly, and college frat boy friendly all at the same time. Super rare to be able to pull that off. It's laid out well and designed well for that to happen. I've seen moms work at the bar tables with a beer and lunch whole their kid goes to play games. I've been there myself with kids around and during late night hours and never once felt like I was around a bunch of children or a bunch of belligerents. Impressive. Good for LITERALLY anyone and everyone. -STAFF has been pretty helpful 10/10 times. I feel like they're all super kind which reflects on the management in my opinion. When I've had a problem or noticed someone else was a bit upset or hadn't gotten fast service on busy hours, they seemed to be willing to problem solve (I like to eavesdrop). I think they're well trained to work with customer service in mind, again has to be reflecting on management, -NO CASH! This seems to be the new norm at a lot of places, and they don't do any extra CC fees that literally every other business has. Honestly, I've seen some people that maybe had a bad experience and they could have been more understanding before reviewing, but I've been the same way. All that said, I love this little gem in St Charles and it's nice to have some variety in options out here. I want to see small businesses do well so they've got my loyalty for sure!
