I usually don't leave reviews, but I feel I have to speak up about the experience my 10-year-old son and I had here today. We haven't been to a barbershop in over five years, so this was a big emotional step for him, and for me. We specifically came here because of the shop's reputation for shaping hair to fit the client and providing a full experience. Instead, what we got was rushed, aggressive, and careless service that left my son in physical and emotional discomfort. The barber Al never properly sectioned my son's hair or treated it with care. He didn't use water at first, didn't detangle, and dragged a comb through thick curls one-handed, ripping at his hair with no concern. I had to ask him multiple times to wet the hair, and only then, after his coworkers were giving him concerned looks, did he spray it down and continue. At one point, I even had to tie my son's hair up myself just to help him. Al didn't trim or shape the top like I asked because according to him, he couldn't do that. He didn't line the back properly, it's very lopsided. He didn't speak to my son at all beyond aggressively saying "Move up! Move up!", no effort to make him feel comfortable or respected. This was a child having his first cut in years. The wash was just as bad, rough and rushed. He left shampoo in my son's hair and barely used any conditioner. I had to tell him there was still product in his scalp. It was clear he didn't know how to handle this hair type, which he finally admitted after finishing the terrible wash! I mentioned "that should've been said before touching his head". We were charged $60 for this awful service, with no explanation, no conversation, no experience. The listed children's price is $37, Although I was prepared to pay more since I requested the full treatment and care, because I came expecting professionalism and that we did not get. I could've gone uptown and gotten a better cut for $20. I still gave a $10 tip, not because he deserved it, but because I wanted him to know, you just lost a good customer. Use that tip to invest in some lessons in professionalism and basic care, especially when working with kids. It's now hours later and I'm still heartbroken that this was my son's experience. I say all this not to be cruel, but because I truly hope no other parent or child has to go through what we did today. read more

First time at Mankind Barbers. Great experience with an outstanding haircut and shave. Isak took care of me. He epitomized what a barber is supposed to be. Isak listened when I told him what I was looking for. He did some trimming and asked me how it looked. I am a short hair guy who gets buzz cuts. Isak went to work and I was very happy with my haircut as was my wife. I also wanted a partial shave and beard trim. Isak spent a great deal of time getting everything just right. He is a perfectionist and his work was excellent. The atmosphere of the shop was both upbeat and old school. Isak shared he learned barbering from his dad. His dad must be very proud of him. Update: The owner did reach out to & try to rectify the situation so I went back to the shop. He offered me a new haircut. I declined, then he offered me a refund of $38 cut + the $12 tip I left the barber (even though the haircut was bad) if I removed the review at which point I walked away. I've added screenshots of text messages the owner sent showing 2 things 1 he's lying when he said "and then walk out in the middle of getting your haircut"(from google reviews) pay attention to the time stamps. 2 also says I have issues, I'm not a man, I have no life, & its my fault the barber cut bad hair Talk about customers services  The first picture is normal $25 haircut of a skin fade in Queens comes with a shape-up of your hair line, beard & eyebrows. Mustache doesn't hang over the lip & a fade to the beard with gel in the hair. Looks amazing The other pictures are of $38 haircut I got from Mankind barbers which was horrible & I'm going to breakdown why picture by picture 2.) Not a proper skin fade 3.) Update: the owner reached out to me and he very kindly offered to give me a haircut on the house, so I'm happy to give them a second chance when my hair grows out. The haircut was pretty good and I like that it was easy to make a reservation online. However, the service was not good. Osher seemed annoyed in the way he spoke to me and another customer that walked in during my haircut. Also, I expected there to be some styling of my hair once the cut was finished, but I wasn't offered any styling and Osher was rushing me to pay so he could get to his lunch break. read more

MIke has been cutting my hair and giving me shave for many years now. I actually have practically been seeing him once a week for at least a shave. Even though it involves walking a few extra blocks, when he told me he was opening his own shop. I didn't hesitate to tell him I will follow him. Mike really loves what he does and it shows. He not only gives great cuts and shaves, he is also a caring person. He purposely chose the design and feel of the shop and is a proud owner, as he should be. It is a shop that is warm and inviting. Recently discovered this Barber as he just opened. To be honest the best haircut I had in NY to date. The owner is amazing, great conversations but also the atmosphere and theme of the salon is superb. It has that western / saloon vibe that I really like. I recommend it 100% ! I tried this barber for the first time today and will not be coming back. The guy cut me two times while trimming my beard on my neck, brought it up extremely high to a chin strap, which is not what I had asked. He took so much off in the first cut I couldn't say anything. He then said he could give me extremely tight edges on the cheeks and went around my face frame with the razor. He cut me on my forehead 1 inch in length to total 3 areas I was bleeding. It's extremely visible and he stopped numerous times for needing to reapply the powder to stop it from bleeding (unsuccessfully). While sitting in the chair, there was also no availability and another potential customer had walked in, didn't want to wait so left. The guy cutting my hair said he could have "banged him out" which sitting in his chair and hearing this made me feel like he was rushing to get me done, explaining the three cuts on my skin, and made me highly uncomfortable. First off, this is a great barbershop; the owner is great and so are the staff -professional, quality haircuts. The problem is that there is a homeless man that is always making a scene each time I am there. Over the weekend, he was cursing loudly at people outside and threatening to attack them. It is an uncomfortable environment and I would be uncomfortable bringing small children there. Otherwise, a great barbershop and I will be back if this situation changes. read more
