Amazing, honest, friendly, and great communication! When my central a/c stopped working in 2019, I contacted the company that originally installed it. There was no coolant so it appeared to have a leak. I was told they "might" be able to repair it or get a new unit for $9k. Neither was affordable at the time, so I have been without central air since then. Thinking I needed a new unit, I contacted two companies for estimates. First company never asked the reason for a new unit but gave me three estimate options. Carl (owner of Mannino) came out to give me an estimate. He immediately looked at the unit and said it wasn't that old and I shouldn't need a new one. He did not have on hand what was need to test for a leak so that was scheduled for another day. David was scheduled to come out on a Friday. He arrived on time and immediately got to work. Very thorough, friendly, and explained things as he went. What did we discover? There was no noticeable leak! David contacted Carl and they determined it was best to leave it through the weekend, return on Monday for another pressure test and see if there was a different result. David arrived Monday as scheduled. Everything appeared to still be holding. If there is a leak, it is SUPER slow. David added the necessary coolant, turned on the unit, tested the temp, let it run, and tested again. All seems to be working fine! They will come back in a few months to check how it's holding Do I recommend this company? 1000% They could have tried to sell me a new unit but instead they were honest and fair. I live in Lake San Marcos, called in on the hottest day of the summer (so far) because my AC wasn't working (I haven't used it in years, but I have a dog now). Carl answered and told me that today is the busiest day, so he couldn't come out (very politely), but he would call me first thing in the morning to set something up the next day, which he did and I respect that. Came around 2:30pm next day, took apart the AC to make sure nothing looks out of the ordinary. Find out there was no power going to the AC unit, circuit breaker had to get reset. Also, he did something else but I forgot. Made sure with a temperature gauge that the right intake/outtake was happening at the AC unit. Gave me some recommendations, but everything seems to be working :) Also, did me the favor by checking on my dog and made sure she's eating. Couldn't be happier, hence the 5 stars. Took him about 1 and 1/4 hrs, which costed $150 (I thought it was a $85 trip charge, then let me know if any work needs to be done, only thing that I kinda didn't like). I would hire again for the next job, just ask how much per hour he charges to fix/install the unit up front. read more

Carl installed a new Heating/AC system in my San Diego home in June 2019. The replacement was complex and required equipment with precise measurements in order to fit plus electrical and piping reconfigurations since the former system is no longer manufactured. We were in a real time pinch and needed an HVAC estimate asap in order to remove contingencies on our prospective new home. Two other HVAC companies had already not shown up as scheduled. Carl promised to squeeze us in and showed up later in the day. He gave us a written quote by the next morning. We bought the house and called to get the work done. The workers were professional and friendly. They cleaned up after both days of work and Carl, the owner, returned to make sure everything was done correctly. Made two different appointments to fix the AC unit in our shop. It wasn't working right so my employees were very uncomfortable. The first appointment Carl could only stay a few minutes, couldn't find the problem and said he would come back in 1-2 days. After three days and no return, employees still cooking, I called and reminded him that he said he would come back to fix it. He comes in a couple days later, then says he doesn't have the time to stay and fix it. I remind him about the two appointments I've made and how my employees are suffering in the heat over these several days he says he would fix it. Then he says he's going to send me invoices for the visits, even though nothing was done. If he was too busy he should have not made the appointments. Wow, impressive! About 5 years ago I had a huge amount of HVAC work done on my second story by another company and was very disappointed. I called Mannino this morning because our heater was not working days before our house would be filled with guests. I have never used them before. The owner himself squeezed us into his schedule and showed up that afternoon after he had made his other calls. And worked for 2 hours to help us fix our heater instead of telling us to buy a new heater, he ran his diagnostics and went above and beyond to rule out other reasons why it wasn't working and saved us the bill of a new heating unit. This company install my HVAC system two years ago. He had the best bid and offer to do the job. He's good when you can get them to come over. From the start he is very difficult to contact have to keep calling him every day and maybe a few days to a week or no return calls. So, my two year old air conditioner didn't want to put out cold air at the start of this season. In my mind always call back the company that installed it, they know the system best. Also in customer to busness repect I was able to contact Carl before going on a two week vacation. He tried to come over the next day but couldn't squees me in, okay I understand that. He told me they only offer one year labor warrenty, ouch. All other companys I called have two years. I told him I could wait until I come back from vacation. So when I got back home, I texted and called and went through the same phone run-a-round as I did two year agoe. With the 95+ comming I couldn't wait anymore. Made some calls I found a company that was willing to come over that same day. This company had a lot of 2017 and past 5 star ratings on yelp. Made the call. Excellant communication all the way to repairing the unit all on the same day!. The problem was a leak at the TIV. This caused ALL of the refrigerant to leak out. He tightened the fittings and refilled the unit with 10 lbs of 410a, the price per pound is $$$$. He was here for two hours and also checked out the whole system, great. He did a 300 lbs nitrogen pressure check, fixed leak, pump down the system, and recharged. HVAC now working as it should be. One other thing....Carl didn't check the new install or call me, (LIKE HE SAID HE WOULD) a few months after the initial install to see on how the new system was running , if the leak was there at that time he might have been able to save me some bucks maybe detecting the leak if it was there at that time. Last season of hot weather the system didn't seem to run as efficient as the previous year......I don't have preasure gauges. I am just saying whar if? Found Mannino on Yelp whike searching for a company to maintenance my rental unit. I spoke to Carl to set up an appointment and was very flexible working with not only my work schedule but my tenants as well, especially in June when its prime business for installations and repairs! Sam arrived to my unit and did a thorough inspection of everything and advised what all needed to be done but would have to reschedule for another day because he didn't have all necessary supplies with him? The next day Carl himself serviced my unit and was done within 45min. Carl lowered the total due to unavailability of some items Sam didnt have with him on day one. Both gentlemen were professional, friendly, and explained in detail and showed exactly what they were doing and why. I was referred by a contractor who i've used before and got great service. I highly recommend Mannino Heating & Cooling. I was traveling and came home to a hot house/hot weekend...not good for the family. While Carl wasn't able to come out as it was Friday late afternoon...he walked me through the diagnosis and got me back up and running that night. I communicated w/Carl through out the weekend to get a permanent fix, even while Carl was out at an event on Sat evening. We have an older home and the HVAC stopped working about eight years ago. Two companies came out and told us the old unit couldn't be fixed because parts were no longer available. A third company came and gave us an outrageous quote for a new system. After using space heaters and sweaters to stay warm for years, someone we know went to work for Mannino and offered to come look at our system again. I called Mannino Heating & Cooling after getting a quote for some duct work from "the white glove guys" that I thought seemed way too high. I talked through the scope of work with Carl on the phone and he gave a quote that was about half that of the quote I had. He basically itemized the quote for me so I knew exactly the breakdown of what I was paying for (the white glove guys just gave me a number with no explanation of how they got to it). This was on a Friday afternoon that we spoke, I told him I wanted to get the work done as soon as possible; he was at my house to do the work Monday morning. As we had discussed on the phone, he said he would tell me before he started if he expected the cost to be any higher than what he had quoted me once he saw the job with his own eyes. Once he saw it, he did say it was going to cost a little more that the original phone quote. He explained exactly why, and it was consistent with what the "white glove guys" had told me, so I believed him. To be clear, I have been upsold many a time and this was not upselling; it was a legitimate increase (likely because I did not describe the job in enough detail on the phone). We agreed on a new price, which was still only slightly more than half of the other quote, so we agreed and he went ahead and did the work. He and his partner worked hard to get the job done relatively quickly. Even still, it took longer than he expected, but he did not charge me the extra labor cost because he wanted to honor the price that he had quoted and that we had agreed on before he started. I really appreciated this; you don't see it often in my experience. After they had finished and left, we noticed that the furnace was malfunctioning. After unsuccessfully trying to troubleshoot it over the phone with me, he drove back to my house that evening and spent another 1-1.5 hrs troubleshooting and fixing the problem. Even though it wasn't really clear whether the problem was related to the work they had done that day or not, he did not charge me for the extra time to fix it. So at this point, he's worked probably an extra 2.5 hrs, and driven to my house twice, with no extra charges because he wanted to honor the price he quoted me and make sure the job done right. Throughout the entire process, I appreciated that Carl took the time to explain everything to me in laymen's terms, and was also very diligent (triple-checking) that the furnace was now functioning correctly. Based on what I've seen so far, it seems like it was a job well done. I highly recommend Carl Mannino and Mannino Heating and Cooling. His prices are very reasonable (sayonara, white glove guys), and I appreciate the way he want about this job from beginning to end.
