Traditional Delis that specialize in Pastrami sandwiches and Matzoh Ball soup is our hobby when traveling. You can imagine Frank Sinatra and glamorously dressed ladies of the 50's in this place. It is an old school cafeteria vibe. We loved it. Pastrami and corned beef sandwich - tender, the bread was soft and fresh. Side of pickle- great! Matzo ball soup- yummy Potato cake- wow! Tasty!! We walked out of there so happy. LEGENDARY. Lives up to its' description.

I met family at Manny's Deli, a historic place to eat, for Saturday brunch. There's a private parking lot in the back. When we showed up, the parking lot was packed, however not much wait time to find a spot- delicious and filling! There was a line to get into deli and the line moved fast. The place was cafeteria style. Staff was super helpful and I could tell they were excellent at their jobs. Each family member ordered either corned beef or corned beef/pastrami sandwiches. Meat was deliciously packed high on each sandwich! Sides, including carrots, Mac&Cheese or latckes completed each order. Drinks are all you can drink. I took half my sandwich to go and eat later A fun-tastic bunch with out of town family and friends which plan to visit Manny's Deli next time in town.

No matter how long the line looks like, you can bet you will be in and out of there before some of the best deli sandwiches you know! But take your time, because admiring all the displayed hot and cold foods is a treat. You might change your mind about what you intended to order and or add to your original orders like I did lol treat yourself to some of the best corned beef/pastrami or beef brisket sandwiches around. or get an extra entrée like meatloaf dinner or beef brisket (again hehe). Excellent value sides like fresh bread. Friendly, super efficient staff.

Checking out this popular deli in Chicago!

After visiting Katz Deli in NY, I was told that I need to visit Manny's in Chicago. We came late in the afternoon that it wasn't busy. it's cafeteria style with lots of items to choose from; we opted for the Pastrami and Corned Beef Combo, with a Potato Lakte. The sandwich was huge, with generous meat portions. It was delicious! I was told that President Obama frequents this place and I did saw pictures on the wall proving it. I also found out that Guy Fieri featured Manny's on DDD, not a surprise as the food was very good. Check out Manny's if ever in Chicago! Highly recommend!

We stumbled upon Manny's after looking on Yelp and saw it was 10 minutes from The Field Museum. Absolutely blown away from the hospitality and sheer size of this place. Been around since 1942. Featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Came for my traditional birthday lunch and Manny's never disappoint. I ordered the half pastrami and half corned beef on an onion roll. Everyone behind the counter was super nice and friendly. This place is cafeteria style and you have a lot of options. This time I wanted to try something than the delicious matzo ball soup. So I tried a bowl of the broccoli cheddar soup. The place had a nice lunch crowd and as I found a table I had to grab some horseradish from the condiment table. The meat was super tender with great flavor especially with horseradish. It's a bite that is savored. The potato pancake was crispy and delicious with sour cream. The broccoli cheddar soup was creamy and delicious. But the matzo ball, was still on my mind. I was lucky that my friend allowed me to have of theirs. I left full and ready for a nap.

I'm so happy we tried this out on our trip to Chicago. Location is huge and has a lot of seating. It's a low-key Jewish deli and cafeteria and has all the favorites (pastrami sandwiches, lox, matzo ball soup, latkas). Grab a tray and order through the line! They have food laid out behind the glass too so you can make some spontaneous choices.

Corned Beef on Kaiser add Swiss

I've stopped in here on and off over the years, less lately, but a random Sunday corned beef craving sent me back. I ordered a corned beef sandwich on a Kaiser roll with Swiss, plus a cream soda, pickles, and mustard to go. The flavor hit the spot, but the meat was way too fatty, which is always a letdown. On the upside, there was no line and the guy behind the counter was noticeably more pleasant than in the past. That said, I probably won't be back. I'm in Brooklyn a lot, and nobody touches Dave's brisket.

How does Manny's rate as a Jewish Deli? If you're comparing it to those of Southern California, it rates very low. Yet this place is extolled far and wide. Is that because there are no more Jewish delis in Chicago? Do they bring copies of Herzog or Auggie March to tap into the atmosphere of Saul Bellow? That must be the allure. "I am a Ruben sandwich, Chicago born." The hot pastrami is the worst I've ever had. Rye bread, borderline stale, fits around lukewarm pastrami that is none too tender. The kugel, half Mac n cheese, half noodle desert pudding is a strange relic and I'm greatful to them for serving it. But again, is barely warm. Their soda fountain was out of Diet Dr. Pepper. Normally I would accept this from a venerable institution and move forward without a peep. But really, the food here isn't spectacular. So I informed a cashier that said soda could use some changing. And do you know what... Nothing was done. Interesting conversation was heard from a nearby table. A group from the plumbers union say taking shop. Really, one guy did all the talking. He revealed himself later to be of German extraction. Two Mexicans nervously listened and moved food around their plates without really eating. A white collar Irishman was also at the table, and also taciturn because the German's conversation consisted of the trials and tribulations of manual labor, something as foreign to this pencil pushing Irishman as a plate of food, sans tortillas, was to the Mexicans. The German American was a true midwesterner: "do you Irish like your potato pancakes with apple sauce?" Irishman: "we usually do sour cream." "Ok. Sour cream. Us Germans gotta 'ave apple sauce." "You know, Arthur gets it both ways being a black plumber. How you think some one-eyed racist up by Wisconsin is gonna feel about hiring him for a job? Then from his own people. He told me, 'you want to do a job for this lady? She's trying to bankrupt me just cuz we have the same color skin. Everything: free, free. '" That monologue, from that German Midwestern plumber, could be worth a trip to Manny's.

What a cool and unique spot! A jewish deli with a vast menu and a ton of seating/tables. They take your orders at the counter and give you your food there once it's ready. Then you pay and seat yourself. The service was great, one of the ladies who took our order took her time to explain everything to us and gave us samples of the pastrami and roast beef. We ordered two pastrami sandwiches and potato pancakes. It was delicious and a lot of food. This is a great spot to take big groups or friends who are visiting!

I've been wanting to try Manny's for quite some time, but I could never make it before their 7pm closing time. Their hot sandwiches are impressively piled high and easy to share. The meat was fantastic! Of course we also had to order a classic potato pancake and the matzo ball soup. Both were great authentic Jewish dishes. The potato pancake wasn't very warm, but for 2.50 it wasn't a bad deal. The ambience is a large old school diner, where you order at the counter. The service was fast and the food is delicious!

While we had originally gone there for bagel sandwiches, it was past noon and they were sold out (just means I have to go back now). The latkes were the perfect side that we ordered and the corn beef was so juicy. The sandwich practically melted in my mouth. It was consumed rather quickly and the perfect amount of sauerkraut and dressing. This location is small, but we were luckily able to get a table inside. Just writing this review my mouth is watering and I just know I will be coming back here during my many visits to Chicago!

Two of us shared a half pound pastrami on rye with a side of hash browns. The rye was pretty decent but the pastrami was sliced far too thick and the meat was lean. That is not a good thing when it comes to pastrami and I attribute the lean meat to the deli catering to its hipster-ish audience. Although the flavor was decent, the sandwich was dry and difficult to eat. We disagreed on the generously sized pickle. One of us thought the flavor was just right, the other not so much. We both agreed on the hash browns. It's a no-go. They were well fried but entirely unseasoned. I understand the lack of schmaltz but there was no onion or salt or anything else. Waffle House has nothing to worry about. (IYKYK) Service was fast and polite. The space is tiny, but it works. Prices are okay for this area but if you want traditional deli in Chicago, go to Manny's.
