I've been to Manny's diner a few times and it is a great NJ diner. The inside is big but be prepared to wait if you're heading in on a weekend morning- it gets crowded! The food is good, I've mainly had the breakfast options such as eggs, pancakes and the yogurt and granola. The staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable. We have driven by this place several times and it always seems busy. We arrived for brunch and were seated quickly. The staff is very good. The food was disappointing. I had Swiss cheese omelet & home fries. The omelet was somewhat flat and not hot. The cheese was not even melted. The home fries were a bit dry and not seasoned. Highly disappointed. My husband and I always come once a week. But after tonight WE WILL NEVER RETURN. We placed an order over the phone that was answered rudely and also wanted to charge us extra for the same thing we always get. Came to pick up the order and calmly tried explaining the situation to the person who answered the call. He was extremely defensive and rude. To make matters worse, the manager handled the situation very poorly. He walked away and didn't care to find out what the problem was. All we wanted was a simple apology but they were too proud. I called to place an order for a grilled chicken wrap with roasted peppers and fresh mozzarella cheese. I was told that they do not make it anymore and that they could give me a chicken wrap for $14.95 and charge me extra for the peppers and cheese!! The wrap would have cost over $20 which is totally ridiculous. Really!! Let's put things in perspective Manny's is a diner not some upscale restaurant! I will never be going back again!! Who doesn't love Manny's! My husband and I have been customers for many years and supported them by ordering take out through the Pandemic. Yesterday I had lunch with four friends and ordered a new salad on the menu. The salad arrived with cold grilled chicken, and as I began to eat it I noticed it was also missing the avocado it was suppose to come with. I ate about 1/3 of it and lost my appetite. The hostess was kind enough to offer me a new salad, but my companions were already 1/2 way through lunch. Shortly after, a female owner of Manny's came over asking how we were doing. By then everyone at my table was done eating. I did mention my disappointment in the salad and the reasons why. Again I was offered another salad, to which I replied no thank you. When the bill came, my salad was included. I went to the pay area and was met by the owner who had just visited my table a short bit ago. I politely asked why the price of the salad had not been removed from the bill. She said that I had eaten most of the salad. I told her that was not so. She repeated that she had given me the option for another salad. I explained to her that the window of my enjoying my salad had passed. I was then reminded that I had also eaten the soup that came with the salad. I informed her that I had asked the waitress initially to wrap that for me to take home. The bag with the soup in it was on the table as we were speaking. She then told me that I was "the only person who complained about the food that day"...like what does that have to do with anything? She took the bill from my hand, re-rang the order, handed me the bill and said, "well, does that make you happy now?" This is all in front of other customers. We are talking about $12.99.....TWELVE DOLLARS AND NINETY NINE CENTS...a salad that probably had no more than $1.50 in ingredients....seriously?! What shameful business etiquette to speak to a customer in this manner. My companions were first time customers at Manny's and it left them equally disappointed. Maybe this owner should leave the front desk position to others who know how to keep customers coming back. read more

I love this diner! I've had breakfast and dinner here and both were wonderful. Prices are great and they give you a lot of food! Huge plates and the food is hot and delicious. One of my favorites is the bruschetta burger... it's cooked perfectly! They also have awesome fries and they give you a little side salad with any burgers or sandwiches, which is a nice touch and also adds to the look of the plate. My family ate there last night and all the reviews about bad service are unfortunately 100% correct. The server or if you could call him that was a joke! Rushed our order in, brought out the appetizers, then our entrees about halfway into the meal. Couldn't be bothered to check on us, ordered my Greek salad with the dressing on the side but came fully overdressed?? All this going on but he had plenty of time to be chatting with other servers in back clearly visible to us. 20 minutes pass by before he stops at the table and asks how is everything good?? Like do you honestly care???!!! Dessert was included in our meal but another 15 minutes go by and nothing no offers of anything else! It wasn't until a manager noticed our understandable frustration pulled the server to the side he now comes running over with an inquiry for dessert. We told him to just pack it to go and to give us the check. I mean he gave us containers to go and couldn't even remember to bring us a bag?? Utterly clueless!!! I informed the same manager us our disappointing experience and he was very apologetic. However after my wife's similar experience here last month we absolutely will not be returning! First time visiting even though I live in the next town over. I happened to be in the area and decided to have a late breakfast with a co-worker. Even in the late morning, there was a good size crowd. The diner is very clean and updated. I ordered the banana pancakes with a side of turkey sausage and coffee. There was some confusion with my pancake order and the waitress asked me if I wanted the Nutella banana pancakes. I told her no and I just wanted the banana pancakes which was a separate menu item. The pancakes consisted of 3 large flapjacks which contained no bananas whatsoever. Nothing inside and nothing on top. Since I was running a Half-Marathon in 48 hours, I ordered the bananas for a reason. The syrup consisted of the sugary stuff in the plastic packets. The turkey sausage consisted of two fat links. Tasty. As a coffee snog, I would say the coffee was very good. Even though my order wasn't correct, the pancakes were still edible. Service was good. Prices were very reasonable. I was supposed to meet a group for lunch, but work sometimes changes your plans, so I was unable to meet up but they brought me lunch back. I had a French Dip. It was lukewarm by the time I was able to eat, but let me tell you, it was by far the best I have ever had. It was piled high with medium rare roast beef with mozzarella cheese on a French baguette, with Au Jus, enough to feed two and a pile of fries. Delicious! I could not eat it all. I also had French onion soup, that I took back to my room. The sandwich was so good, at lunch the next day it was all I wanted, so back for another. This time I made it to the restaurant. It was a typical diner, but the staff was attentive and service was fast. I had a cup of matzoh ball soup. Very good on a cold day, the matzoh ball was a perfect size, sometimes they are too big. They have a extensive menu, but I still went with the French dip, better than yesterday (it was hot). This time I took half of it back to my hotel room for dinner that night with the French onion soup, which was wonderful also. Both reheated nicely in the microwave. There is a bakery on site, the desserts looked great, but I passed on it. Looking forward to my next visit to Manny's when in the area. read more

I've known this restaurant since it opened in the 1970s under the name Windsor Diner. Of course, I limit my comments only to my experience since it became Manny's. For that matter, since moving back to Clark after living elsewhere I've eaten at Manny's but a handful of times. I plan to continue my patronage of Manny's. It's clean, the food's adequate (and reasonably priced), and the staff, despite one or two ding-dongs I've encountered, proves eager to help. Manny's has a liquor license, should you want to combine the hours of dinner and happy. One more thing about the meals: Other reviewers correctly state Manny's serves generous portions. I just can't say the same for their salads, which could be more filling at least when you don't order one with poultry, fish or meat. I notice one section of Manny's has a mini beverage station so coffee and water requests do not require the wait staff to hoof it all the way to the counter/kitchen area. Smart move. Your coffee arrives all the quicker and the shorter walk decreases the chances of spills and collisions. I don't like the small rugs over which you can trip entering and exiting the diner. I saw a senior citizen struggle to navigate those rugs with his walker, on which they caught. At a recent Tuesday lunch Manny's was as busy as you'd expect the place to be Friday dinner time. I know there are other places to eat nearby even if the recent closing of the Thai restaurant on Central Avenue could only have driven more business to Manny's. Still, a good crowd must include repeat customers. read more

What was good was really good, but not everything was good. I got the atomic bomb, which is cornbeef hash, home fries and 2 eggs. All my food was good, but they mixed the corn beef and the home fries- which is a slight problem because I like my home fries with ketchup, but not my corn beef. Aside from that, my breakfast was good. The side of sausage I added was excellent. Wife went with a waffle and fresh strawberries, even though she was a bit bummed they don't offer real maple syrup, but corn syrup in a pre-packaged container. She just skipped that and enjoyed the waffle. What neither of us could eat or enjoy was the bacon. It was TERRIBLE! It didn't even smell like bacon, and had a terrible flavor- almost like it was frozen and thawed in a cardboard box and picked up the smell and taste of cardboard. Disgusting. Coffee was also a bit weak and disappointing. Service was good, got seated quickly, easy to park, diner was clean... honestly if it wasn't for the bacon and coffee this would have been a great meal. I want to start by stating I'm totally against leaving bad reviews for businesses BUT this is very important information for anyone who has a food allergy. My husband ordered a meal and specifically told them about my allergy and stressed it to the person on the phone who acknowledged they understood. Upon opening the container it was very obvious that the allergen in question (black pepper) was all over my food which could put me in the hospital. I called the diner and told them what happened and their ambivalence was alarming. The staff needs training as to how to handle food allergies as it could be deadly. I would not trust anything that comes out of that kitchen if you have any sort of intolerance or allergy. After giving Manny's chance after chance, unfortunately I've reached the ultimate revelation never to come back or order out. The food is ok nothing to knock your socks off, but we always have an issue with the service! There is one waiter who never takes your drink order until you are ready to order food too. Whenever we order takeout something important is missing like salad dressing or condiments that I specifically request! How can you eat a salad without the dressing, it completely ruins it. Our final straw was when we went for breakfast the other day and a waitress offered us Apple juice refills and we said yes because they serve small servings of juice, claiming to be a large size. TWO Apple juices with ONE refill each came to 16.95 on our bill!!!!! Not Orange juice, not FRESH squeezed juice....just ordinary Apple juice which I know from experience buying wholesale for a restaurant is outrageously up priced. When we asked our waiter nicely about it he said "sorry but I tell everyone that juice and milk refills aren't free and management won't take it off because you drank it", well maybe if you were taking care of your own table you could have told us that! 16.95 for two Apple juices is like ordering two mixed alcoholic drinks, two entire meals, or almost 6 trips to Starbucks in the REAL world! Every single time we go eat there too the busboys also stalk your every bite and will reach over you to bus you out rudely and make you feel rushed. And another time when I ordered a Belgian waffle I asked for some powdered sugar on top and the waitress sprinkled it all over me, I was wearing black and I'm 7 months pregnant so couldn't even reach to clean it all....nice! We really loved this place at first but unfortunately had too many bad experiences. For just a little further drive you can eat in Westfield for just the same price with far better service. Yes! The Windsor Diner was ok when we moved here but went downhill fast. Then they changed the name (Johnny K's) and the decor while all the place really needed was a change in wait staff and a new chef. Now, the new owner of the place got it right. Solid menu. Not too many items. All the classics, done well. Quality food, nice clean place, staff that busts their butts. Even when the place was slammed on a Sunday night, everything was quick and painless. Manny's doesn't offer anything spectacular, but performs far above average for NJ diner standards. I would almost say, with the beautiful decor and classy staff, the experience is somewhere between a diner and an upscale restaurant, while retaining diner pricing. And although I'm not expecting white glove 5 star service with champagne being uncorked by sabre, I am expecting that the staff comply with the basic 3 rules of service applicable to any food service establishment. 1. Pay attention to what the guest orders, and make sure the respective dish is presented to the appropriate guest. It's off putting to just have a plate of food put in front of you and then the guests having to play plate shuffle. This is what happened to us. 2. Don't remove any plates from the table until you ensure that all guests are done with their meal. In our case the server swoops in to grab my wife's plate no sooner is her fork down...but I'm still eating. What's the rush? 3. Until all guests have stopped eating, and all plates are removed, and server has absolutely guaranteed that guests are all done and do not want anything else, do not bring the check. Well, wasn't it awesome when I'm still eating and the waitress comes around, asks very shyly if we wanted anything else and didn't even give me a chance to respond before putting the check on the table and wishing us a nice day. Maybe I did want something else, maybe I would have gotten a piece of pie, maybe my wife would have gotten another hot chocolate...we'll never know and Manny's lost the chance to increase the check. I have been a customer of Manny's for many years. I have gone to his Texas Weiners in Union. Most NJ diners were renovated in the 80's and have stayed that way.
