Came for breakfast. It was okay. Kiddos got chocolate chip pancakes which they ate (of course) but I thought they were kind of dry. I got the lox/tomato/onion omelette special which was a bit salty for my taste but I guess lox is supposed to be salty. Accompanying fruit cup was great-- fresh and ripe. Service was very friendly. Came here for Sunday brunch. Inside it looks like your normal local breakfast/lunch spot. I started with the Turkish coffee and my wife got a cappuccino. This was the first time I had Turkish coffee and I enjoyed it. It was unlike your normal espresso. There beans had a different taste and it was a little thicker and grainier than your average espresso. The cappuccino was also good and both came with a small biscotti. For food I ordered the shakshouka with Egyptian sausage since the restaurant had middle eastern specials on the menu and my wife ordered the strawberry, banana and Nutella pancakes. The shakshouka was very good, perfect for dipping the warm pita into. It had a nice balance of spices and the Egyptian sausage had a unique spice that I haven't really had before. The pancakes were also good. You can't really go wrong with strawberry, banana and Nutella and the portion size was huge. read more

Went once and the food and service were great so decided to go again a week later and had the complete opposite experience. Food and service were subpar. Our waitress was way too chatty and sarcastic to the point of being rude. She was joking around with my son and when he went to say something to her, she put her hand completely over his mouth! How gross and disrespectful! When the food came out, my son's came much much later than everyone else's and when I started eating mine, I noticed a hair. I quietly told our waitress so as to not cause a scene and she apologized but said it was probably a fuzz from a towel. I said "no. It's definitely a hair." (And certainly not one of my hairs!) she brought it back to the kitchen and they made me a new one. Let me first say, this place is quite good overall... just fell flat in some specific areas that hurt the overall dining experience. From the door, the hostess/waitress seemed angry or bothered. No smile, no eye contact and certainly no friendliness. But the ambience is comfortable, bright, clean and open. Outdoor seating available on this corner establishment on the very desirable main commercial street of Westfield NJ. The food is affordable priced and has a diverse selection of breakfast and lunch items (open until 4pm). As for the taste, this Egyptian based has some delicious Mediterranean based foods such as their amazing falafel dishes. However, their 'Greek salad' lacked feta cheese and had not a single typical stuffed grape leaf in it. The lentil soup was flavorful but very thick. The restaurant did not live up to my expectations for a good breakfast place. I read the reviews and most are glowing with praise. Onthe positive side,the wait staff was nice and knowledgeable. On the food side, not so much. I ordered a cup of tea (lukewarm when it came) a mushroom brie omelet ( cooler than lukewarm when it came) and white toast (cold when it came). Good options for breakfast or lunch. Menu consists of mainly American and Turkish options. I didn't have high expectations given that diverse menu, but the Turkish food was actually very good. I ordered the lamb shawarma which was delicious, and really authentic. Lamb was really flavorful and tender. And the sauce that they added was great. It would have been better with a side of fries or even salad, but even without that I felt that the price was reasonable. Also tried some of the Shakshuka. My first time having this dish. I found it also to be really flavorful. We came on a weekday lunch and it was fairly busy but we were able to get a table. Food was served quickly. Overall its probably a high 4 star joint, but I'll upgrade to 5 star since I live within walking distance. read more

Looking for a brunch spot with amazing food? This is a very casual place basically an upscale diner. Booths and tables inside a few outdoor tables which were not available so we waited a few minutes as it was crowded at 2pm on a Sunday. Started out with the coconut pancakes to share, and then each ordered an entree. The poached eggs were amazing, the Egyptian sausage and eggs were great and the pita bread was delicious too. Everything was so yummy. So much to choose from that we will have to go back. We ended up ordering the Turkish coffee to share and complete our experience. All you need is a few sips of this if you're looking to wake up. Side note- We brought our wine but felt uncomfortable drinking as it is basically forbidden in the Islamic culture. Spotted this little cafe on the way back from a Sunday morning hike, and thank goodness we decided to stop by! They had a wonderful outdoor dining setup outside the store, perfect for a beautiful not-too-chilly fall morning. Started with coffee and the cappuccino was absolutely perfect. It even came with a free biscotti on the side. For all you Turkish coffee lovers, that was also on the menu! Originally came for brunch, but we were so tempted by the Mediterranean lunch options. I was supposed to get bacon but I don't know what the fuck I got instead. I complained to the waitress and she only said "sorry" so.... they don't give a fuck? When I first entered the restaurant, I saw someone else complain about the overseasoning of salt and pepper in their food. What a major red flag. I should have left as soon as I entered. This is a great little café/diner right next to the Westfield train station. We are fairly new to Westfield and went there for the first time a couple of weeks ago. We were wowed by the wonderful customer service of our waitress, Cindy. She was very attentive, provided great order suggestions and also brought over their delicious housemade hot sauce to go along with our eggs. All the food we ordered was wonderful, including the short stack of chocolate chip pancakes, the egg and cheese sandwich on a hard roll, and the Florentine omelette. The chef (maybe owner?), Ash even stopped by later on towards the end of our meal to check on how everything was. We meant to write this review right after that, but then never got around to it and when we went back today a few weeks later, we realized how much we needed to write this up! This time Kirsten and Cindy both helped us out, and Cindy remembered us by our orders from the last time even though we had only been here one time- very impressive and shows a great attention to detail and customer service. Ash came by also, and it was clear he remembered us as well. The food was fresh and tasty yet again (we got the French toast, egg and cheese sandwich, and Greek omelette this time) and the prices are great. Second time here with family. Absolutely fabulous. Freshly prepared food - no nasty aftertaste. Just perfection. Coffee was strong, hot and plentiful. Mint Lemonade - fresh and not tart. Could be the waitress didnt prepare it right as it was two tiny cups half full with coffee grounds and a little sip of actual coffee. This location has been the kiss of death for several previous restaurants, including multiple reincarnations of the original 1950's Westfield sub shop, Duke's, a short-lived pizzaria, and a Pakistani restaurant which flopped just like Baboo's on "Seinfeld". Hopefully, this family-run American/Egyptian luncheonette will succeed. A friend and I gave it a shot for a weekday lunch. We ordered several basic dishes--hummus, baba ganoush, falafels, and kefta kabob. I asked if the gyro was carved to order from a rotisserie spit, but was told that it is pre-portioned, so I passed on that. The french fries are straight from the freezer. The kefta kabob was dried out and rubbery. Who knows how long that was sitting around. Admittedly, the flat, unappealing-looking falafels tasted better than they looked. The hummus was just OK, the baba ganoush could have used more garlic and less ground black pepper. The server tried to take my plate away while I was still eating, which always annoys me. No compelling reason for me to come back here, so, three stars, an average rating. read more
