The food here is amazing. This isn't my first time coming here, but my first time doing a review. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that I would have liked a bigger portion of my main course and definitely the appetizer. I had the branzino. It was cooked perfectly. The potatoes on top were nice and crispy, My friend and I shared the dumplings. The order was only 2 small dumplings for $9. Four dumplings would have been a better appetizer. The Parker house rolls were delicious as always...buttery & flakey Our servers were friendly and attentive and the manager did come by to check on us. They have great Happy Hour deals that run Wednesday to Sunday from 4-5:30PM with 50% off oysters and clams, plus 25% off petite and grand seafood towers. Food - the food was alright. We got an assortment during the happy hour at lower prices but frankly for the portion size it was no happy hour app. It just appeared a good price. Kind of a mind trick. As a group we got 3 dozen oysters. I have to say for the price I just wasn't impressed. $4.50 an oyster is really beyond unreasonable. We are Cranford NJ. Not Newport RI. I lived there for quite some time and had the best oysters. None were $4.50. Kind of a rip. They were tiny also. My main was the pork chop. It was big and moist. No issues there. My wife had the mussels. She has a sensitivity to spice and asked if it was spicy. She was told no. It was very spicy. Overall I found it to be overpriced for what we were eating. Phenomenal! 100 Steps does not disappoint. Excellent service, amazing and creative food, laid back atmosphere. The menu changes frequently based on the seasons and I've never been disappointed. Restaurant is clean and cozy...do not skip this place!! FYI it is BYOB so I like to look at the menu in advance so I can select my wine/champagne before I go. I came here for happy hour, and they did not disappoint. The rolls they brought out were toasted, buttery, and served warm- exactly how I like them. This wasn't just a throwaway piece of bread; no hard, stale rolls here. These were served with intention, delicious in their own right. The clam chowder was thick and full of tender clam pieces- not too chewy, with a great texture. My only critique is that it could have used a little more seasoning (salt/pepper) and didn't come out quite hot enough. For our mains, we got the shrimp sliders. The shrimp was plump and juicy, the bun was tasty, and the sauce was on point- I really can't find any negatives. For a happy hour dish, it was great. The service was a little odd. The waitress cleared our table too soon, taking the chowder before we were finished. She asked if I was done with my slider (which I was) and then took all the plates, even though my friend was still eating. The ambiance is lovely, with dim, well-balanced lighting and a stylish interior - definitely has a nice date night vibe. One thing to note: they don't serve liquor here, so bring your own wine. BYOB! Branzino was a bit of a disappointment, not much flavor, small portion and seemed a little undercooked. Also, main course came out to table at the same time as the appetizer. Definitely a five star experience!!! We arrived just before happy hour ended (4-5:30) and they were kind enough to place a quick order of oysters!!! They were super fresh and delicious... favs were west coast (sorry NJ). Next, came the Parker rolls!!! Probably my favorite part of the meal, but then again, who doesn't like homemade, freshly baked rolls with buttered top and a touch of salt!!! Because everything looked so good, we opted for a bunch of other appys to start! The New Zealand angus beef bites were served with horseradish aioli and a Parker roll, the halloumi cheese was accompanied by orange slices, prosciutto, radicchio and dehydrated olives. The octopus was spectacular... crispy with romanesco sauce, fried chickpeas, cilantro and paprika breadcrumbs. Of course, we had to also try the OHS mussel pot... with chorizo, saffron, garlic cream, sun dried tomatoes... and an herbed garlic roll on top!!! LOVED THEM ALL! It's not often that so many different, but complimentary flavors are presented in each dish!!! We could have stopped our meals there and would have been pleasantly satisfied and full! Next, we chose a couple of the sirloin sandwiches with fries, and the squid ink pasta with Calabrian chili and Meyer lemon breadcrumbs!!! All was very good. The evening was finished with 3 of their delicious desserts... the lemon meringue tart was the perfect sweet with a pucker. The molten dark chocolate cake was decadent. And the trio of gelatos were each so uniquely flavorful and delicious! Wow!!! Given that 100 steps is a BYOB, it makes everything even more affordable! 10 people on a Sunday night....reservation at 6PM. While I like not being rushed, the service was so incredibly slow it took us 3 hours to complete the meal service. The food was good, but we definitely had some issues with the menu write ups not fully matching the meals that were delivered. Oyster sampler - we ordered two double orders. All four people who ate the oysters agreed that while they tasted good, the oysters were poorly cleaned, poorly shucked (macerated oysters, bits of shell in the oyster) and the overall presentation/ preparation was quite lacking. Slow braised octopus was cooked beautifully and tasted great. Crispy outside, soft inside. The OHS Mussel Pot - tasted great but the description did not mention the red pepper and/or other spices that gave the dish a fairly decent kick - while it was fine for me other diners who aren't into spicy foods were turned off by the flavors. The Crème Brûlée was noted to be served with fresh mixed berries. The molten lava cake was not, however it came with both berries and a raspberry sauce - not a problem for me but again not exactly what the menu described. My experience at 100 Steps Kitchen was impeccable from start to finish! The owner, Jack greeted my friend and I at the door and offered us a seat at the bar area (raw bar). This restaurant is BYOB, so don't forget your wine! While sitting at the bar area, we were able to watch the hardworking staff shuck the fresh oysters. We started off with the Park House Roll (a must), 18 oysters & slow braised Spanish octopus. After devouring our apps we ordered the OHS mussel pot & New Zealand short ribs for dinner. Nice day outside and there was one couple sitting on the patio and another couple inside. We were told we couldn't sit outside because "not enough staff". I wanted to love it, but the poor service and management didn't support the prices. After waiting at least 10 minutes at the table without a server, we needed to recruit a waiter to help us. A member of our party was not satisfied with his meal and the manager was aloof and lacked hospitality regarding his concerns. On a positive note, dishes had nice flavors and composition. We had a nice date night at 100 steps. They accept reservations online and there is street parking available. Oysters 5/5: honestly probably the only thing I would come back here for. They were so delicious and fresh! Pricey starting at $4.25 and up to $6 per oyster but I guess that's why they have happy hour. Looking forward to returning for happy hour next time! Parker house roll 3.5/5: a nice, fluffy, buttery roll but nothing special Pan seared salmon 4/5: the salmon, broccolini, and purée it was resting on were delicious. There was a truffle flavor which I wasn't crazy about. Also I just wanted the entire dish to be warmer, I like my hot food hot, not lukewarm Mussel pot 3.5/5: for the price, I was expecting bigger and meatier mussels. The mussels were small. They came with ground chorizo and a cream sauce which was good but got a little salty towards the end. I have higher expectations for mussels when I'm getting them at a restaurant so I just wished these were bigger than the supermarket ones Overall, I think things here are a tad overpriced but the service is good and you can tell the food is quality. Wonderful experience! Even from the moment we walked in. Appetizer was the double grand tower and we loved it. Served plenty of oysters, clams, octopus, scallop ceviche and a perfectly seasoned blend of mussels. Each and every one was enjoyed to the max, we were all so pleased! The entrees were also delightfully tasty and had excellent portion sizes. Two of us got the Wagyu burger, one had the mussels dish and I ordered the seafood bouillabaisse, all fantastic. We all really enjoyed every bit of this! Would love to return. Ambiance was fantastic as well. I absolutely love this place!! I have been numerous times and the food is always delicious. They have a weekday happy hour which includes seafood and oysters. Also, the place is BYOB which is good to know. I came today with my family and we ordered burrata, salmon tartar, and the chicken skewers for appetizers. Each of those were so delicious. I am not the biggest fan of salmon but that appetizer was amazing. For dinner, I got the wagyu burger which is one of my favorite entrees on the menu. I have ordered it numerous times and it is always so good. Lastly, the owner is extremely pleasant and always checks on us to make sure our meal is okay. Would definitely recommend!!! read more

They had selections like Kusshi which I never really see on this coast which I was thrilled about. We moved onto the Spanish octopus.. honestly I could have done without, the cook was fine but I wasn't excited to go back for another bite. The potatoes and sauce were a bit lackluster. Next was the burrata with peaches- good flavor, fresh and bright, nothing blowing me away but solid dish. Clams were our main to split. The sauce was great, the toast inside the bowl was a bit over saturated and would have preferred to have it on the side but the flavor of the broth was spot on. The food was outstanding. From a taste point of view it was an incredible meal. We had heard such wonderful things about the place and wanted to try several dishes so the 4 of us ordered several appetizers to start. Our server should have warned us that the portions are extremely small and not suitable for sharing by more that 2 people. But the taste--ahh heavenly. I really like the ambiance / service / staff at 100 steps. Plate presentation is always very good. But the last 3 times I've gone the food has been lackluster. Tonight I got the Orange Roughy Entree. It comes with Orange Roughy, puréed parsnip, and zucchini. These are three things that have mild flavor on their own. And when put together it's 3 items with mild flavor. The orange roughy was cooked well. But the dish overall was just all right. No real flavor anchor and nothing to really bring them together. I immediately requested salt and pepper, which helped. My husband got the seared Bronzino, which had so much chili oil on it, it over powered everything else on the dish, which was just white rice with a black kale radish salad. All had very mild flavor with nothing distinct, except the chili oil. The chili oil was very spicy. The oyster happy hour is delightful, especially if you bring your own crisp white wine to enjoy it with. But other than that, 100 Steps, needs to "step" it up. read more

This was our first meal back at 100 Steps since 2020 and it exceeded our expectations. Our waiter did a great job guiding us through the menu and made terrific recommendations. My husband and I split 3 appetizers (dumplings, fish and chips, and beef bites) and also shared the Pappardelle entree. We finished with the molten chocolate cake and a scoop of salted caramel gelato. I appreciated the timing of the dishes - we were able to finish the appetizers before the entree was served and never felt rushed. Our waiter was not obtrusive but did make a point to check in with us throughout the night. We're incredibly lucky that 100 Steps is just a few minutes away. My husband and I checked out this cozy spot on Centennial Avenue. To me, the restaurant seemed a bit off the Cranford main restaurant drag - however, this spot is not to be missed. Plenty of on street parking is always a plus too! We went on a Thursday night. There were only a handful of other diners but the place is often very busy come weekend. Place has very fresh, comfortable, and inviting decor w/candlelight on each tale. It's also BYOB. Service was good t/o and our waiter provided some suggestions. We started w/a few oysters which were very fresh and delicious. They have oyster happy hour daily until 6:30 during the week and 5:30 on weekends which I have to check out as otherwise the price is anywhere from $3.50-5 per oyster. The raw bar has a ton of different local and standard options of seafood. While the main plates looked exciting, we opted for small plates. The menu is seasonal so our dishes were summer-seasonal themed. We split a refreshing watermelon salad ($12) and flavorful oyster carpaccio-dish ($17). Both were great and beautifully plated. We then split a small size of the clam pot ($16) with a tasty broth and savory clams. The dinner rolls are OUT OF THIS WORLD - I would return just for the rolls. They give two complementary w/refills $1.50 each. Yes, it's worth it. All in all, a really good meal w/good service and amazing dishes.
