A true gem this place! Located between many small businesses you find this deliciousness of a restaurant. When you're craving that special taste of a homemade dish made with love- this is it! My husband first introduced this place to me when I told him I was craving Indian food. He mentioned his parents would always come here on date nights and we just had to try it. I tried the chicken tikka masala with white rice, garlic naan and of course, mango lassi! Every single bite was filled with flavor....It was so much food in one serving I had enough for lunch and dinner next day! I absolutely love Manohar's catering. They've catered a few Indian wedding receptions I've attended and it's seriously the best. I thought that would be the same for the restaurant, but it was just normal Indian food. Nothing extraordinary. And the service was slow, it took forever to receive items so much that we canceled some items. I also think with the money they make on catering, they can totally remodel the restaurant. First of all it's weird, no windows? And carpet? The 80's are long over. The food is good, but the catering is best! So if you have a lot of money for catering, definitely use Manohar's. read more

Came here based on a recommendation. From the outside, the restaurant doesn't look that great. But inside is much better looking. Looks nice and clean. Staffs were not enthusiastic. Would have been better if they greet us with a warm friendly smile. We ordered the followings: - Tandoori Chicken (Full Order) - Chicken Curry - Chicken Tikka Masala - Garlic Naan - Rice - Mango Lassi - Gulab Jamun The Tandoori Chicken was soft and delicious. Chicken Curry was a little salty. The Chicken Tikka Masala is our go to item whenever we dine at an Indian restaurant, however, this one didn't taste as good as I am used to eating. It tasted a bit off. Garlic Naan was good. Rice tasted a little off. Mango Lassi was good. And so was the Gulab Jamun. Overall, it was just an OK experience. Some of the best dine in Indian foods in the area. Located in a small strip mall close to major intersections, plenty of parking. I used to come here all the time when they had lunch buffets and today the staff notified me they will no longer be having buffets. Nonetheless we sat for lunch today because the food is that good. Food We ordered butter chicken, lamb curry, garlic naan and side of rice. They also provided some chips with a sweet chutney and seems like spicy cilantro chutney. The green chutney is my favorite because it's got a nice salty and spicy kick. I think the spice level here is catered to the locals that come here, it's more mild than traditional Indian cuisine. We got medium spice level and there wasn't much heat. Butter chicken was thick and creamy with some nice acidity from tomatoes, chicken pieces were a nice bite size. Lamb curry was smoky and had a nice deep herb flavor. Garlic naan is a must order when you get these saucy dishes to dip in or you can toss it with the rice. Two servers today and they were both very friendly. Came to check on us a few times and refill our waters without asking. My future father in law (FIL) is in town and staying literally across the street from the restaurant, score! We came in on Monday, Memorial Day and I was nervous that they would be closed because when we came up to the door it was like pitched black with no signage but when I opened the door, they were open and inside looked so nice! Outside is so unassuming but inside definitely felt like a fancy place. It was a bit confusing once we're in because the staff also seemed confused that we were there? There wasn't many people in the restaurant aside from a table with 7(?) people celebrating a birthday but they sat us down anyways and walked away. I chose this place because I saw in their reviews they were able to accommodate no onion / no garlic due to my FIL's dietary needs. When I tried to ask they brushed me off thinking I was asking for the bathroom and just pointed to the corner. But I had to ask once more to confirm if they were able to be accommodate this request and the guy told me to wait for my waiter. No problem, we waited and our waiter came over and gave us menus and I asked that I saw at one point they offered a buffet but he said they no longer offered it. Okay no worries - I asked which dishes are they able to accommodate with the no onion / no garlic (Jain dishes) and he pointed out a couple. Okay not bad, quite a bit of options! But after looking at the prices (oof so steep) it was about $17/dish average. While we were browsing the menu he brought over some lentil chips and sauces that we can eat with the chips. Really tasty! The chips were pretty salty but the dip he provided (There's 2 dips, the green one has onion) made it like a sweet salty combo. I liked it! We got 4 different dishes, 2 orders or naan, and a side of rice. This came out to almost $80 - our wallets were crying but my FIL was here so we wanted to treat him. The food came! It didn't take to long for them to come out, we got their samosas, gobi matar (cauliflower with green peas), aloo gobi (cauliflower with potatoes), and vegetable kofta (Vegetable balls mixed in a thick masala sauce), 2 orders of naan, and an order of their plain rice. Everything was tasty - just what you expected Indian food to taste like. Nothing that really stood out but still good nonetheless. But the food came out in these small bowls. Like I just couldn't get over that they WANTED TO CHARGE $17/per small bowl?? Served family style?? I just can't. Everything was ala carte so there was no way to get a combo of things. I don't think we would come back just due to how pricy it was and for how little food you get... Service was good, decent. But sometimes you get the feeling that you're not wanted(?) Came here for Mother's Day and overall had a really nice experience. The food was flavorful, comforting, and well worth trying, especially for a special family meal. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming despite how busy things were. The only downside was that both the food and service took quite a while, but considering it was Mother's Day, it was understandable. I've lived in the area for most of my life, but I never would've thought to stop by this plaza for indian food. I only discovered this place as a Michelin Bib Gourmand place of interest. So I took my parents here and we weren't disappointed. You would think that such a normal looking entrance you wouldn't expect the interior to differ that much right? Work was done to make the interior a lot more of a modern indian aesthetic I feel. The place looks clean and more upscale than I thought. Now for the food review, we did not go during their buffet time and here's what we got: Chicken Tikka Masala: Normally I order tikka masala to gauge a restaurant's cooking. This didn't disappoint. The sauce was soo good I used the rest of my rice to finish up the sauce. It would be a waste to not eat it all. For medium spicy, I think it's perfect. For folks sensitive to spice, I would probably do mild. Fish Curry: We personally didn't like the fish as much, even with the curry, the fish still had some of the fishy smell, and it wasn't as fresh as I expected it to be. upon biting into it the meat wasn't flaky. I would probably stick to chicken/beef/lamb going forward. Garlic Naan: Solid for $2.5/naan, solid choice accompanying the dishes we ordered. The Garlic was fresh and I think they accentuated it with garlic oil as well. Tandoori Roti: for $1.95, it'd say it's pretty good, I might be more used to naan texture for my curries but it's also pretty good too. aromatic basmati rice: fragrant and fresh basmati rice. I think $6 is reasonable for most places in LA nowadays. I probably would've wanted a bit more per order. The staff was very professional and cordial with us, they even refilled our waters before we asked and swapped out our plates before the entrees came, which i didn't see often I feel. One thing that did just bother me was the take out menus being the normal menus. If we wanted to keep one as options on what to eat, I'd like a new menu if possible, free from whatever sauces touched them before. Was going to rate 5/5 because service was great and the place felt clean. The place was spacious and had lively Playlist. Price was fair. I asked if rice was included with the tikka masala and was told yes but then I saw a 5.95 charge for rice. The tikka masala was delicious and flavorful! The garlic Nan was also really good. Portion was great too! The main reason why I have to drop my score is because I had my left over togo and when I reheated everything, I almost ate a piece of green bell pepper with the original sticker label which made me second guess the cleanliness in the kitchen and how food are prepped. The standard affair is butter, chicken, and or curry chicken, Aloo, Gobi, pollack paneer, sag with chicken, the brown daal is garlicky the way it's supposed to be, Keena naan is a big hit with everyone who tries it. Who's never had a stuffed noun before. You can definitely go with the garlic and chili naan as well. Not everything has to be hot, but the flavors are balanced, and the condiment amount is just right. The condiments do not overwhelm your pallet. The service is impeccable. Super attentive and very knowledgeable. Ask questions about the food if you don't know. You'll enjoy it more if you know exactly what you're getting into. They remodeled the inside a few months ago and walking in from the outside is complete travel to a new place. The lunch buffet is back. We have not been here for a while and so my son and i decided to come by. This is; after all, one of our Top 3 lunch places. We were sad when the pandemic ended the buffet but we still came by and ordered but today we were surprised that the buffet was back. The offerings were all so good. The buffet allows you to try all the varieties and they were all so good but you COME HERE for the butter chicken. With the sauce over your rice; oh man, so delicious. Dont let the facade fool you. Food is as genuine as it gets for these parts of town. I will always need more heat in my food though. They offer you spice levels like most Indian restaurants. The dining table and silverware were in good condition. Definitely has the family dinner ambiente. They dont serve buffet anymore so the bufete equipment build out is a bit or an eye sore. Since moving to this area a year ago, I have been in search of a good Indian place. What I'm used to is Bhanu on Rosemead/Huntington in the Rosemead area--fantastic food! We decided to give this place a go as it is close by and seemed highly rated. Ordered take-out food through good ol' trusty Yelp. We got a text that our food was ready within 20 minutes of ordering! Nice! We ordered butter chicken, palak paneer and the okra with a side of rice. Initially, we were surprised at the flavors, not because they were bad... but they were SO DIFFERENT from what we've had before. The butter chicken was very creamy, The palak paneer was also very creamy loaded with pieces of cheese. For us, the okra was the biggest surprise: we're used to very diced bite-sizes of okra cooked with onions and garlic. This had sliced red onions with the okra cut in half. Flavor-wise, it was slightly sweet with a small kick of spice. It was delicious! The restaurant's located in a strip mall with plenty of parking, albeit in a bit of a sketch area. The inside of the restaurant was surprisingly very nicely decorated... but alas, it's likely I'll only be doing take-out given the area. Will definitely be back to try other things! This place has been our birthday go-to for several years and never misses. The staff are always so friendly and generous and you can tell that they care that you chose their restaurant. I was very excited to eat at this restaurant since trying it from a catering experience at my cousin's house. I was also told they're very popular for catering, so naturally I assumed it would be even better in person. However, I found out that a lot of this food is made in bulk, with similar bases and elements like food coloring (I went with a friend that is allergic to food coloring). The food in person was similar to the catering food, mild, lacking in true complexity and flavor. The outside seems like a very sketchy area, but the inside at least seemed nice till I noticed some ants and a couple flies buzzing around. Below is a breakdown of the food: 3/5 - Shahi Paneer: creamy and very pretty to look at, but not much in terms of flavor, very disappointing. 2/5 - Garlic Naan: oddly flat naan besides the edges, very mediocre. 3/5 - Kadai Chicken: lacking in any real complexity or flavors, just like the Shahi Paneer. 3/5 - Paratha: pretty average, nothing amazing or terrible, just average. 1/5 - Onion Bhaji: completely lacking in flavor or any other ingredients, literally a basic version of fried onions (just a decent amount of salt in the batter). I'm so excited to find a local spot that offers delectable Indian food. I called in a takeout order Friday night and picked up my food 20-30 minutes later. Samosas (4.5/5) - one order comes with three perfectly crispy samosas filled spiced potatoes. These samosas have a slightly stronger ginger flavor which I wasn't a fan of. Butter chicken (5/5) - rich and creamy with chunks of chicken & some bell peppers. This was my favorite dish. Tikka masala chicken (5/5) - flavorful tikka masala gravy with chunks of chicken. This was equally delicious. Aromatic rice (4/5) - we were given more than enough rice and thoroughly enjoyed it with our entrees. Garlic naan (5/5) - naan with plenty of garlic to soak up our sauces and enjoy with our meal Aloo paratha (4/5) - I saw this on the menu and ordered it on a whim. The paratha had a thin layer of spiced potato and was tasty. The restaurant was homey inside with dim lighting for diners. The smell of rich spices could even be smelled in the parking lot. The food is authentic and delicious while the staff is attentive and hospitable. My husband came for dinner and ordered a bunch of our favorites including: - Butter Chicken (5/5) - Flavor was on point and the portion size of tender pieces of chicken were generous! For those who aren't too familiar with the cuisine, this is such a great gateway dish to introduce you into the wonderful world of Indian food. - Matar Panner (5/5) - Amazing as well and one of my favorite Indian dishes! Matar paneer has a similar tomato base as Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala but the flavor is quite different with their use of spices and also features some sweetness. The chunks of paneer and peas soak up the flavors beautifully. A must order! - Tandoori Chicken (5/5) - We got the half order which came with a wing, leg, thigh and breast. The chicken had been marinated for long time with its usual spices and came out very tender and not dry at all. It's a great dish to enjoy alongside your other curries. - Garlic naan (5/5) - Gotta have the naan on the side to eat alongside your curries! You really can't go wrong with this, the naan bread was fluffy and chewy yet crunchy in some places with the perfect amount of garlic. My husband ordered the lamb vindaloo but since I don't eat lamb, I didn't try it. He did enjoy it very much though! We really went to town with the ordering and had enough leftovers to make another meal out of it at home.
