The food was good, service was friendly, and the ambiance was like a sports bar atmosphere. But in this case it's more of a vibe of once you order and the food comes out that's it. They seemed not very busy, but noticed they have a lot of to go orders. Also there is only one person that is the cashier and your wait staff to take your order and bring it out. I believe there may have been 1 or 2 cooks in the kitchen. We ordered 3 items and all of them tasted good and came out at a reasonable time.

Very easy parking in a large lot with other stores. Sadly tucked away it doesn't get a lot of traffic flow. Definitely come here if you are into authentic Indian southeast flavor and Singaporean food. Ordered quite a few items just to sample the taste and I have to say it's really tasty and authentic. Very big portion too for the price. I wish curry was spicier, but that would be my doing for not asking for enough spice (1-10). They will gladly box anything you can't take home. Service is very attentive. Only negative with the mushroom biryani is I wish they had more mushroom in there versus half cut mushroom hidden between the rice

Oh dear, I didn't even realize my last review was so long ago! We've been here a couple more times in between, but this time around was almost a year ago! Definitely due for an update! GREAT place for those looking for legit Singaporean Indian food! There really isn't anywhere that makes Roti Prata the way you get it in Singapore - it's NOT any version of "onion pancake" you might get from a Chinese restaurant in the 626. This is comfort food for me, so to get REAL Roti Prata the way I grew up with is just amazing, since I can't go back to Singapore frequently or easily. Plus this is really close to the Edwards Cinema in West Covina, so we've been able to plan a movie around our meals too! Staff here are always friendly and helpful -- this visit allowed us to talk with the niece of the owner. She was super friendly & totally knew we needed to have sugar to go with our Roti Prata, the way we ate it in Singapore! :) We also ordered the Chicken Murtabak & a Chicken Nasi Briyani - still as tasty as ever! Curry was nice and rich as well. The place has not changed much, still clean & spacious as before...I LOVED listening to the Bollywood music in the background as well, LOL. The menu also seems to have grown, with a bit more variety -- which is another great excuse to return here, so I can try out more stuff! I noted that there was another review that said it wasn't an authentically Singaporean place - I think it should be noted that this is an INDIAN Singaporean restaurant, so expecting Char Kway Teow the way hawkers did it in Singapore may be expecting the wrong thing. But the curries are great and other Indian food items definitely have been spot on. Thanks Prata House, for keeping it authentic, & for making prata just the way I remember it! :)

Prata House is located in downtown West Covina on Glendora Ave. They serve a menu of Indian, Malaysian, Singaporean, and Indonesian food- such as biryani, curry, and roti, and also takeout. We've been there before, but it had been a while. It was very spacious inside, and the server was nice. We ordered the Vegetable Samosas as starters ($6.99 for 2 pieces), Butter Chicken Masala ($15.99), Chicken Biryani ($16.99), and Cheese Prata ($7.99). The Samosas were big, and they were very hot when they first came out, so you gotta be careful. They were very crunchy, and the sauces tasted great. The Butter Chicken Masala tasted heavenly. We liked that dish so much. Biryani is a mixed rice dish originating in South Asia. It's a slow-cooked dish with aromatic rice, tomatoes, onions, and spices, traditionally made with rice, meat, or seafood. We ordered the Chicken Biryani, and it was a little bit spicy, and the spice of that dish was not our favorite. However, we liked the Raita- side dish on the Biryani. It's a traditional cooling yogurt-based sauce with spices and herbs to go with the biryani. Lastly, Cheese prata is a flaky flatbread with a crispy exterior and soft & buttery inside. I thought it was similar to naan at first, but naan is different, with soft bread made with a different flour and usually cooked in a tandoor oven. They were also delicious. P.S. Prata House uses and serves Halal meat, and they claim that they are made without MSG and GMOs.

Highly recommend this place. You can't go wrong with any of their dishes but be mindful of the spice level (I recommend mild to minimal if you're not familiar with it). I would recommend the coin prata just because it has an interesting flavor and savory sensation. My wife didn't like the accompanying curry but I really enjoyed how refreshing it makes the coin prata although the coin prata is delicious by itself too. We're so spoiled in LA with all of our great restaurants but this is one of the few restaurants where I feel like the flavor takes me to a different country. Service was fast for the main dishes but a little slow for the coin prata. Restaurant looks like a normal restaurant but the smells and flavors really make you feel like you're somewhere else. Price is good and easy parking in the plaza.

I've been truly spoiled by great Indian Food in London and in India. Service here is 5 stars and ambience is 5 stars but the food was underwhelming for me. We had: Chicken Tikka Masala Vegetarian Thali Garlic Prata Bread Mango Lassi The Mango Lassi is out of this world, incredible! I've had better Tikka and Thali (although have yet to find a better one in LA). That being said we had to order the Tikka non spicy so that may had played a part in the lack of flavor. The Thali was a nice way to sample a lot of different tastes. I would definitey be back for the Mango Lassi and to try some of the Singaporean menu next time!

I was craving Biryani, so I went to Prata House. The place is very nice and clean. The staff were great and the service was fast. I orderd the following to go; Chicken Biryani Regular 5/5 It wa generous amount of flavourful Biryani. Chicken Tikka Masala 5/5 Roasted marinated chicken in a creamy spiced sauce, comes with rice. Vegetables Murtabak 5/5 It was Stuffed prata with vegetables Milo Dinasour 5/5 Iced Milo Chocolate malt drink topped with Milo powder The service was fast. The food had perfect aromatic spices. The Biryani was very flavorful and delicious. The Tikka Masala was creamy and had well balanced spices. The vegetables Murtabak was my favorite. I enjoyed every bite. Then the Milo Dinasour had this iced chocolaty nostalgic flavor. My family and I enjoyed our meal. It is a great place to try and have flavorful dishes.

Came when it was almost closing and ended up ordering alot!! The surprise was the chili fish, so much flavor. The garlic prata with curry that came with it was a great blend of flavors. Will come again and try more on the menu. Told the server next time he sees us, give us the bigger table.

    Mutton Murtabak
    Sireen S.

We're so happy we discovered this place tonight! We started with the Cheese Dosa (which didn't have much cheese but came with a delicious curry sauce on the side) and Mutton soup (which was a bit spicier than we were ready for but incredibly tasty.) Just wish the mutton used in the soup was a bit less fatty. The Mutton Murtabak was delicious and took us back to our trip to Malaysia, and the sauce on the side enhanced the flavor. My youngest son loved the Maggie Goreng with chicken. My eldest ordered the Mutton biryani at spicy, but said he expected it to be spicier lol (I also thought the spice level was closer to a mild-medium on the biryani). The flavors were excellent but the mutton meat was very tough, so we definitely prefer lamb biryani. We also ordered the Coconut Chicken Curry which came with a side of rice. The spices were delicious but we didn't realize the chicken was bone in (one leg and one thigh). Good to know for next time. And the mango lassi was perfect - creamy and not too sweet. We ordered 2 other drinks and 2 waters and the entire bill was just over $100, which was less than what we expected for all that we ordered. Oh and Bollywood was playing the entire time, alongside a cooking show on one screen and the news on another, so everyone was happy in our family! And best part is - all their meat is halal!! We'll def be back to try some of their boneless chicken dishes and other types of noodles and Murtabak.

The server is excellent, but the food isn't authentic. I swear to my founding father, Lee Kuan Yew, that this restaurant is NOT genuine Singaporean. Even the curry they use for prata is wrong! We used red fish curry over there. The kway tiao is utterly disappointing, with big chunks of chicken that I couldn't even fit my mouth around.

They can't even spare a container for the Murtabak, it came wrapped in foil LOL. Like not even inside a container, it was just swished around the bag wrapped in foil. On top of it, it was soggy as F. Typically, restaurants will poke holes in the container to let it "breathe" in order to keep roti crisp even if you line it with foil and if they don't know about this, idk why they're even a restaurant. The lack of knowledge on this makes it questionable. Moving onto the Roti with curry, curry was meh. Usually you get hit with an aroma of inviting spices but this one just taste like what I find in frozen aisles or prepackaged cube curry. Nothing stands out. What a let down.. on top of that, roti seems like it was frozen, not fresh and soggy. It tasted like a scallion pancake without flavor, non of that puff pastry crusty, buttery and flakey texture you'd get from real authentic places. Food quality is definitely lacking here. In addition, the portion is so small, so laughable. (Refer to pic) The chicken satay came wrapped in a white paper bag which should have been foil so that it doesn't create moisture and then dry out the chicken. Idk what's with their packaging but again, you can't even spare a container? Instead you just opt to use a ton of plastic to wrap everything. It took such a long time to unwrap everything because they wrap every single sauce container, plastic container, paper container in Saran Wrap. A bit unenvironmental. The peanut sauce that came with the satay wasn't at all delicious nor authentic. Usually I'd want a refill of that sauce, but I end up just skipping it in the end because it wasn't even all that great. Lastly the laksa was decent but nothing to write home about. I've also never really had a laksa without prawns before, this version came with weird types of tofu (one that had a purple filling which had no taste) and fried tofu wedges (which is fine). There were two fish balls. Honestly this laksa tastes just decent, definitely not a signature item in any realm. I've had better laksa in Irvine from a place not specializing in laksa. I guess as long as you don't expect it to be like Ipoh Kopitiam quality then it's OK.

My husband originally wanted to order the Char Siu Rice, but unfortunately it wasn't available on Sunday at 3 PM, so he switched to the Nasi Lemak Chicken--and it turned out to be a great choice. Easily 10/10. The chicken was incredibly tender, and the rice was fragrant and flavorful. I ordered the Curry Laksa, which came with tender chicken, fish balls, tofu, vegetables, and boiled egg. The portion was quite generous for a single dish. They also offer two noodle options--egg noodles or rice noodles--and I chose the egg noodles (pictured). While the ingredients and portion were excellent, the broth was not as rich and savory as I expected, especially since laksa broth usually has such a distinctive flavor. I'd still give it an 8/10 overall. One thing I really appreciated was that they offered sambal prawn as a condiment, something not commonly found at other Malaysian restaurants. I also tried the iced Teh Tarik, but it tasted a bit too watered down for my liking, so I probably wouldn't order it again. Service-wise, one staff member seemed a little overwhelmed when we arrived and didn't acknowledge us, so we seated ourselves at an available empty table. They also have a small grocery section where you can purchase authentic Malaysian dry goods. I picked up a Pandan Kaya Toast Jam. One reviewer described the place as "barren," and honestly, it is quiet and low-key. But that's part of the charm for me. Not every restaurant needs to be another overly curated, gentrified "hip" spot with hip signs and then charge an arm and a leg for the food. Something is refreshing about the tranquility here, a calm place where you can actually enjoy your meal and conversation. The place is also very clean. The owner is also incredibly friendly, and I enjoy chatting with him. This place has soul. My rating is solely on the food, consistent with all reviews. More importantly, the food delivers solid value, especially given that everything is halal, and the menu blends Malaysian, Burmese, Thai, and other Southeast Asian influences. Kueh Teow Goreng - 3/5. This dish is essentially the Malaysian/Indonesian cousin of Pad See Ew. The noodles were well-balanced in flavor - savory without becoming overly salty - and the beef was tender and paired nicely with the dish. The rice noodles are fresh. While it didn't quite reach the smoky "wok hei" heights that make the best versions unforgettable, it was still satisfying and thoughtfully prepared. Goat Curry - 3/5. I also tried the goat curry, which I enjoyed quite a bit. They use the right cuts of goat meat: tender, bone-in pieces that add depth and richness to the curry. The spice balance was good and comforting without overpowering the dish. I do wish the curry had a bit more tang and heartiness to push it to the next level, but overall, it was flavorful and enjoyable. The naan served alongside it was fresh, though I personally would've liked it a little fluffier. Overall, Mutiara Food & Market serves good, honest food at affordable prices. It may not be flashy, but it offers something increasingly rare: comforting halal Southeast Asian food in a peaceful, unpretentious setting.

The noodles were cooked well, but the sauce didn't completely hit the spot flavor-wise. Noodles were also a little less al dente than I prefer, but still held up nicely. It was enjoyable, just not particularly memorable. One thing I'd note is that the mild spice level is very mild. I played it safe and ordered mild, but there was essentially no heat at all. I'd definitely order medium or spicy if I come back to try the other items. The Chicken Satay was solid. The chicken was tender and flavorful, but nothing that really stood out compared to other versions I've had. Good, just not spectacular. Overall, I'd give the meal about a 7/10. The flavors were enjoyable and I'd be interested in coming back to try some of the other dishes, especially with a higher spice level. This felt more like a casual lunch spot than a destination meal. I would consider getting something from here to share if you're with people who want to share things from multiple restaurants at the farmers market.
