This is an overdue review for Prata House but I had a lovely experience! During my visit, all the tables were attended by just one person who was so sweet. She forgot our utensils but quickly apologized when we inquired about them. I never got her name but I hope you see this and know you're doing a great job :) For the food, we ordered the coin Prata, egg prata, and chicken tikka prata. Be aware if you paying with card. Make sure you ask for merchant and customer receipt to sign because it happened to me. The server name : Karmugilan was requested cash tip and i did left $10 cash tip. After she charged my credit card, she only returned my credit card without any receipt to sign. I asked her, she said no need to sign anything. So I asked for a copy for my self. The next day i saw on my credit card over charged of $10.58 of my total $70.54 after tax, it 15% tip extra they stole without my authorization on top of the $10 cash tip i left on the table. This is robbery. My self is a business owner, i like to support other small business owner, but this one is dishonest. Absolutely don't get my respect. You should be ashamed. Food was ok. Very easy parking in a large lot with other stores. Sadly tucked away it doesn't get a lot of traffic flow. Definitely come here if you are into authentic Indian southeast flavor and Singaporean food. Ordered quite a few items just to sample the taste and I have to say it's really tasty and authentic. Very big portion too for the price. I wish curry was spicier, but that would be my doing for not asking for enough spice (1-10). They will gladly box anything you can't take home. First time here, not impressed. I absolutely love Singapore noodles! I was hoping to enjoy some from the time I saw it on the menu before coming. So sad. I had the mango drink my Indian friend always ordered for me. That was fine! But the shrimp that was with the noodle I had to fish for! Cut in half and few and far between. The food was good, service was friendly, and the ambiance was like a sports bar atmosphere. But in this case it's more of a vibe of once you order and the food comes out that's it. They seemed not very busy, but noticed they have a lot of to go orders. Also there is only one person that is the cashier and your wait staff to take your order and bring it out. The Prata House in West Covina is an absolute gem! We stopped in recently and were seriously impressed. The butter chicken was outstanding--rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with that creamy, comforting sauce. You can tell they take their time with the spices because every bite was spot on. The staff was warm and welcoming, and the service was quick even though the restaurant was busy. The whole place has a cozy, inviting vibe. Oh dear, I didn't even realize my last review was so long ago! We've been here a couple more times in between, but this time around was almost a year ago! Definitely due for an update! GREAT place for those looking for legit Singaporean Indian food! There really isn't anywhere that makes Roti Prata the way you get it in Singapore - it's NOT any version of "onion pancake" you might get from a Chinese restaurant in the 626. This is comfort food for me, so to get REAL Roti Prata the way I grew up with is just amazing, since I can't go back to Singapore frequently or easily. Plus this is really close to the Edwards Cinema in West Covina, so we've been able to plan a movie around our meals too! Staff here are always friendly and helpful -- this visit allowed us to talk with the niece of the owner. She was super friendly & totally knew we needed to have sugar to go with our Roti Prata, the way we ate it in Singapore! :) We also ordered the Chicken Murtabak & a Chicken Nasi Briyani - still as tasty as ever! Curry was nice and rich as well. The place has not changed much, still clean & spacious as before...I LOVED listening to the Bollywood music in the background as well, LOL. The menu also seems to have grown, with a bit more variety -- which is another great excuse to return here, so I can try out more stuff! I noted that there was another review that said it wasn't an authentically Singaporean place - I think it should be noted that this is an INDIAN Singaporean restaurant, so expecting Char Kway Teow the way hawkers did it in Singapore may be expecting the wrong thing. I was pleasantly surprised by a few dishes here. I think if you're able to try multiple dishes it's better so you can get a sense of what you like here because the cuisine is very different. It has Indian and Malaysian and Indonesian... it's an amalgamation of all the high lights and it's great for all the taste buds. I would say my favorite dishes I had for lunch were the char kew thuy with shrimp. It was surprisingly flavorful and had the delicious wok hei flavor to it that cannot be achieved by a home cook. So saucy and hot and fresh. The noodles were a nice al dente and it was great. I'm also obsessed with this dish called Gobi Manchurian, which is a vegetarian dish that is amazing. It's fried cauliflower in a spicy sauce that is served with rice and honestly so addictive. I love meat and this doesn't have any and I'm not mad at it. The butter chicken was flavorful and you could taste the freshness of the herbs and spices. We also tried the chicken puffs and they were good, I liked it with the tamarind sauce that they served with the samosas actually. I didn't particularly like the veggie samosas cause they used too many spices that there was an overwhelming herbaceous taste that I couldn't get past. I think the only dish I wasn't particularly fond of was the chef special dosa, it was kind of like an Indian quesadilla with weird frozen vegetables. It made the dosa soggy and the dips weren't tasty enough to save them. There was a tomato one that was an off putting pinky red color that was indecipherable. I would not order this dish again. Still a great meal, median price point, with a nice clean restaurant that was not busy at all. So good for parties and large groups. I would be interested in coming back to try more dishes. read more

Prata House is located in downtown West Covina on Glendora Ave. They serve a menu of Indian, Malaysian, Singaporean, and Indonesian food- such as biryani, curry, and roti, and also takeout. We've been there before, but it had been a while. It was very spacious inside, and the server was nice. We ordered the Vegetable Samosas as starters ($6.99 for 2 pieces), Butter Chicken Masala ($15.99), Chicken Biryani ($16.99), and Cheese Prata ($7.99). The Samosas were big, and they were very hot when they first came out, so you gotta be careful. They were very crunchy, and the sauces tasted great. The Butter Chicken Masala tasted heavenly. We liked that dish so much. Biryani is a mixed rice dish originating in South Asia. It's a slow-cooked dish with aromatic rice, tomatoes, onions, and spices, traditionally made with rice, meat, or seafood. We ordered the Chicken Biryani, and it was a little bit spicy, and the spice of that dish was not our favorite. However, we liked the Raita- side dish on the Biryani. It's a traditional cooling yogurt-based sauce with spices and herbs to go with the biryani. Lastly, Cheese prata is a flaky flatbread with a crispy exterior and soft & buttery inside. I thought it was similar to naan at first, but naan is different, with soft bread made with a different flour and usually cooked in a tandoor oven. They were also delicious. P.S. We really wanted to like the place but there was no welcome from anyone. We walk in and the place is empty on a Friday night. Only two people at a table. One person waiting for takeout and no staff in sight! A lady finally came out and said the order for takeout will be out soon. She went back in the kitchen and that was our cue to leave. Highly recommend this place. You can't go wrong with any of their dishes but be mindful of the spice level (I recommend mild to minimal if you're not familiar with it). I would recommend the coin prata just because it has an interesting flavor and savory sensation. My wife didn't like the accompanying curry but I really enjoyed how refreshing it makes the coin prata although the coin prata is delicious by itself too. We're so spoiled in LA with all of our great restaurants but this is one of the few restaurants where I feel like the flavor takes me to a different country. Service was fast for the main dishes but a little slow for the coin prata. Restaurant looks like a normal restaurant but the smells and flavors really make you feel like you're somewhere else. I've been truly spoiled by great Indian Food in London and in India. Service here is 5 stars and ambience is 5 stars but the food was underwhelming for me. We had: Chicken Tikka Masala Vegetarian Thali Garlic Prata Bread Mango Lassi The Mango Lassi is out of this world, incredible! I've had better Tikka and Thali (although have yet to find a better one in LA). That being said we had to order the Tikka non spicy so that may had played a part in the lack of flavor. The Thali was a nice way to sample a lot of different tastes. I would definitey be back for the Mango Lassi and to try some of the Singaporean menu next time! read more

Yum, yum, yum...I had lunch with my friend at Prata House yesterday, and we loved the food and the service we received from the lady who might have been the owner too.. The food was made fresh and the portions are generous.. Unfortunately I was so busy chatting with my friend and eating, I forgot to take photos of our food . We shared the samosa appetizer that comes with two samosas and the sauce, and we both ordered the chicken tikka masala that was medium heat, which was nice and spicy! When you order, they ask what spice level you want your food which is a great option for people who don't like their food too spicy. We're so happy we discovered this place tonight! We started with the Cheese Dosa (which didn't have much cheese but came with a delicious curry sauce on the side) and Mutton soup (which was a bit spicier than we were ready for but incredibly tasty.) Just wish the mutton used in the soup was a bit less fatty. The Mutton Murtabak was delicious and took us back to our trip to Malaysia, and the sauce on the side enhanced the flavor. My youngest son loved the Maggie Goreng with chicken. My eldest ordered the Mutton biryani at spicy, but said he expected it to be spicier lol (I also thought the spice level was closer to a mild-medium on the biryani). The flavors were excellent but the mutton meat was very tough, so we definitely prefer lamb biryani. We also ordered the Coconut Chicken Curry which came with a side of rice. The spices were delicious but we didn't realize the chicken was bone in (one leg and one thigh). Good to know for next time. And the mango lassi was perfect - creamy and not too sweet. We ordered 2 other drinks and 2 waters and the entire bill was just over $100, which was less than what we expected for all that we ordered. Oh and Bollywood was playing the entire time, alongside a cooking show on one screen and the news on another, so everyone was happy in our family! And best part is - all their meat is halal!! The server is excellent, but the food isn't authentic. I swear to my founding father, Lee Kuan Yew, that this restaurant is NOT genuine Singaporean. Even the curry they use for prata is wrong! Since my trip from Asia, this is the closest I've been to having Singaporean/Malaysian food again. I've been craving prata, so I was very happy to have found this spot. My friends and I went on a Sunday evening and it wasn't too busy. We ordered the coin prata, chicken tikka masala, and mee goreng. The coin prata was nice and thick, but a bit too sweet for my liking. It did come with a dipping sauce though, which complimented it nicely. The chicken tikka masala was pretty good, very standard. I was super excited for the mee goreng though because I've never had it authentically. It came with a fried egg on top and had a nice runny yolk to mix with the noodles. Of the three, the mee goreng was my favorite dish! There was a nice kick of spice to it, but it was definitely different than the instant noodles. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for somewhere new! Despite the many businesses around, there was plenty of parking. The staff was super friendly and brought out the food quickly. Very easy to find and park , Prata house has incredibly flavorful dishes that are unique and very filling. I got the nasi lemak, onion roti, murtabak, and char kway teo (not pictured). My favorites were definitely the nasi lemak(served weekends only) or the char kway teo. Both were super flavorful and even approved by my picky eater mom ! The kway teo we're used to is different than this one but it still had kicking flavors that we loved. Was looking for something new to try and saw they had a lot of vegetarian and vegan options. I had to try their vegan mango lassi. It was made with soymilk and delicious. We got the Coin prata - fried prata rings with a side of curry (curry is spicy!) Vegetable Murtabak which had tomatoes, veggies, potato between prata and pan fried. Very delicious and hearty with a side of curry as well. Bee Hoon- stir fried vermicelli with tofu and egg (no egg option available) It was all very delicious! Our server was nice. - Mango lassi ($4.99). Good and sweet. - Coin Prata ($9.99). These were interesting. Each crispy prata was like a little coiled roti. I bit one, and melted butter oozed out. Yum! It was lightly sweet, with a little chew, and had an accent flavor that I can't pinpoint. Cardamom or cinnamon? It tasted good by itself and dipped in the curries (from the other items we ordered). - Mutton Murtabak ($15.99). Not good. The goat was tough, and the egg was dry. It came with curry dipping sauce on the side that tasted alright, but it was a bit one note with an earthy flavor. - Butter Chicken Masala ($14.99). Just okay. The gravy was slightly too sweet and lacked complexity of flavors. I think it came with pieces of white meat chicken that wasn't tough, but also not soft. - Chicken Biryani ($15.99). Solid. Scratched the prata itch! I was craving cheese prata after nearly a year of not eating fresh prata and this place is great! I didn't know they were Indian and Singaporean so I took the chance to buy kaya toast. The cashier had warned me about the butter since they were being conscious of dietary restrictions. I appreciated it since I'm used to kaya toast without butter but it's very tasty with butter too. Picked up a mixed vegetable curry on my way out and I am stuffed! First time so we played it safe and ordered Samosa which was flavorful without the dipping sauce it comes with. My son ordered the butter chicken masala spicy. And I went with the chicken biryani. Chicken tikka masala and butter chicken come in medium sized bowls with separate containers of basmati rice. The portion of curry is actually enough for two people. I also ordered vegetarian samosas. They are quite large. The light green sauce that is served with it is slightly spicy and a cooling accompaniment. The Coin Prata is a hot chewy, pan fried sweet bread that is served with a curry dipping sauce. I enjoyed it, but it is very different from anything I have had before. When in the "Prata" House, try the prata. The butter chicken was good, but I was really "wowed" by it before at a different India restaurant. The servers are friendly and it is nice that they ask you the spice level. After reading about the good reviews, I decided to come here for dinner for the first time after a long day of work, and it was indeed very good as suggested by Yelp!! The restaurant was fairly empty the time I went, so I got my food very quickly. I ordered Cauliflower 65, Maggie Goreng Shrimp, and a refreshing iced tea. All were very delicious.
