After discovering we could not get a crane big enough to fly in two precast pole bases into our side and back yards, we had to replan and go with pour-in-place bases as a substitute. We coordinated and did the excavation work, conduit work, rebar cages, base/drain rock, etc.; however, we needed someone to coordinate, form, pump, and pour the high-strength (5,000 PSI) concrete. We just finished a project pouring a new foundation and retaining walls with Manuel and we are delighted with the work. We've done a lot of construction over the years, and with other contractors, we often get a boss that shows up once a day or even once a week on the project and most of the work is left to less experienced crew. Manuel just completed a large root removal which was lifting my driveway and side walkway to my backyard. He cut the nvasive roots replaced my pavers and removed the lifted side walkway concrete, cutting a couple of very large roots and replaced the concrete with pavers. I have an ongoing basement water seepage for almost 10 years. It's a mess especially after huge downpour or heavy rain. Water all over the basement including the garage, under the stairs, and outside front entry. Mold all over the walls. Neighbor won't cooperate in any way. Anyway, this review is about Manuel. He listens and provides logical/sensible advise. His experience shows when he saw the problem and when he talks. Quality workmanship, efficient and friendly. Manuel came out to repair a few areas on a brick wall and brick facade attached to the house where one of the walls was leaning off the house and some of the bricks/mortar were cracked/missing in other areas. Manuel came up with a good solution to the problem that didn't require doing a rebuild of the wall where it was leaning off, which ended up costing less to do. Fit me in between other jobs he had going on and got it done in under a day. Very friendly guy, will hire again the next time I need work done. Manuel Raposo just replaced the sidewalk across the whole front of our house as well the driveway entrance. He also did the new walkway to the house which I designed. My husband and I took 2 years deciding and interviewing contractors for the job. Part of the reason is that half of them never even sent the estimate which doesn't give you a real good feeling. We also did a lot of soul searching about saving the old trees that ruined the sidewalk. But Manny, as we now call him, was right out to see us the week we called and we had our estimate by early the next week. We had a few more questions and he came out on a weekend, the same day we called. It was evident from talking to him that he had a wealth of knowledge and experience. He just did our job last week and our faith was rewarded. The completed job is beautiful. You may have to wait for your turn but once he is on your job, your site has all his attention. This man epitomizes the hard work ethic and works like a force of nature. His finesse with a bobcat was amazing. Not a leaf on my trees was damaged. He had ideas on how to work around them too. On concrete pouring day, I remarked to my husband, "If lightening struck down the other three workers, Manny could have done it alone". I never saw anyone move so fast and be in complete control of EVERYTHING! Manny listens to you, gives his ideas, and really works with you to give you what you want. My walkway was curvy and I was worried about laying it out. I was shocked when Manny pretty much gouged it out with the bobcat. Where do I start, I have nothing but good things to say about Manuel. I give him more than 5 stars. He is a smart, knowledgeable, hardworking, competent contractor and a good, honest person. We had a time sensitive need for a sidewalk repair and fortunately for us Manuel was able to squeeze us in between his projects. He came to the house on a Monday to inspect the sidewalk and give an estimate, we signed the work contract that evening, and he and his crew were at our house the very next day in the afternoon, completely prepared and all ready to go. Additionally, that morning, before starting the work in the afternoon, he took the initiative to coordinate with our other landscape contractor to make sure our pavers would arrive in time (our pavers had to be delivered first before the sidewalk work could begin). Very organized, responsible and professional. Manuel does his own estimates, gets his hands dirty with his crew, and project manages the work including ordering the materials and supplies, and he does it all very well. His wife does the paperwork and office manages the business, and she is the nicest office manager to deal with. This is truly a small business run by two people and you really get all the benefits of this---there are no miscommunications or disorderly interactions between all sorts of people who have no idea about your project, and you deal with people who actually care about their customers. You talk with Manuel and his wife and they will make sure everything gets done and is done right, as was agreed. Besides doing an absolutely excellent job with our sidewalk project, Manuel is also willing to share his knowledge and expertise in any way he can. You can tell he is just simply a helpful person with good ethics. Manuel is always booked, so if you can get him, you're lucky. He has a Portuguese accent, so if you talk to him on the phone and can't understand some of his words, don't let this distract you, because once you meet him in person and see how competent and knowledgeable he is, you will not regret that you contacted him. Manuel helped us put a french drain around a portion of walk in basement. He was able to squeeze us in and get the work done before next round of rains lashed across bay area. I used Manuel Raposo Construction to install a 50ft french drain at the foundation of my house. I was very impressed with the quality of workmanship and his adherence to structural codes. He is very flexible to work with and his prices were fair compared to the other bids I got. Also very important and an often a short cut I have noticed with some landscaping contractors, is that Manuel makes sure his contractor license is up to date and carries liability and Workman's Comp insurance for his workers. We had the cement in our our backyard and front walkway redone by Manuel. We were very nervous as we had been saving a very long time to get the work done and we wanted it done right. Manual replaced both driveway aprons, a 76 foot long curb around our circular driveway and some sections of our crumbling sidewalk.. He saw cut and demolished and removed the old material. The new curb and aprons look very professional. I had to wait a while for the project to start, but after it started they worked continuously for four days until the project was finished. I did not mind waiting as Manual's estimate was 1/2 as much as another estimate and for more work. I found Manual easy to work with and he has a good sense of humor. I gave him a check for a down payment (which he did not ask for) and his secretary did not cash the check until the job was started. You wont find that very often. read more

I am so happy I chose Manuel. I had my pathway and driveway done using the stamped method. He told me where to go see some of his jobs and I found the exact color that would go with my house and loved the pattern that I saw at one of the places he did. He also helped me out of ideas. I had the pathway and steps going up to the porch widened. It was recently done and only took about 4 days. He also had his workers take some decorated brick off the front of the house that was coming away from the wall. Soon I will have the house painted and it will all come together looking beautiful. I can't say enough good things about Manuel's work. He came out one evening and took a look at what we wanted- a 8'x8' hot tub pad. About 15 minutes later after measurements, etc. and he gave us the estimate. No waiting for days! He was able to do it that weekend but we were going to be out of town, so we said it was ok if he did it while we weren't there. We came home to a beautiful concrete pad, and you'd never know that there were trucks and guys working and concrete being poured, etc. They had leveled the soil, put down an 11" thick pad with rebar, re-leveled it so that only 4" is showing, and cleaned everything up beautifully. A couple of days later he came after work for payment. I can't recommend him more highly, especially when it's so hard and tedious to find a good contractor, get bids, etc., etc. for anything. On the recommendation of a neighbor, we asked Manuel Raposo to re-do our driveway, small walk-way to the backyard, as well as install a sump pump to mitigate surface water pooling. From the beginning Manuel Raposo was fantastic. He has completed many jobs in the San Mateo, Foster City, Belmont, and Burlingame areas. He's very familiar with the various soil, drainage, and elevation complexities in these areas. He takes a lot of pride in his work. He gets permits for his work. When he books an appointment, and has to reschedule, he calls and tells you ahead of time. He is very dedicated to his work. When he starts a job, he and his team work the entire time. He constantly monitors his team, but he isn't just a foreman or 'boss', he's in there doing the work along with his team. If he is not on site, it's only because he either has to run to get more supplies or needs to touch base with another work site. He is always back on site quickly. He and Carol are very responsive by phone and e-mail. If you need to reach him, you can pop and e-mail to Carol and she will pass the message to Manuel within minutes. He is willing to stop by to answer questions. He is friendly, honest, and straightforward. He doesn't mince words or waste time with niceties or political correctness. Because of the nature of our project, we had to get the City of San Mateo involved (not just for permitting). Manuel helped us contact the City and he worked with the Dept of Public Works engineers and inspectors. He was our advocate. He went above and beyond to do the job right and help fix the underlining problem. The end result is that the City of San Mateo came to my property to redo the work they did a few years ago. Because the work the City did impacted the work Manuel did on our property, he came on site to monitor the City's contractors to make sure they did their job right. Afterwards, he returned to fix anoter mistake the City made. You can't ask for a better, more dedicated contractor. If I had the budget and more work I would hire him again. read more
