My house needed a new (paver) driveway and after interviewing 4 companies I chose to go with LVG. We had some very specific needs and Jose was not only understanding but also great to work with the whole way. The front of the house from the garage to the sidewalk was torn out and replaced with pavers. I had 2 planter boxes added and we extended the front porch. Because of the grade from the sidewalk to the house, we had a French drain added at the garage (lowest point) which drains to a sump in the backyard. This was to prevent flooding in the garage and around the foundation. The water is then pumped out to the sidewalk. The drain was put to the test this winter and it worked perfectly. During the project Jose was on the job site each day. His crew were very professional and followed through with all the small issues that came up. The pattern they laid down was great and blended perfectly. The porch looks great and so do the planter boxes. Most importantly, the pitch of the entire surface is perfect. The water flows to the drain and I have no puddles! It's been 7 months since the work was completed and I'm happy to say that the project looks as good as it did the day it was completed. Loma Verde Gardens did an *amazing* job remodeling our large patio - they really blew us away. Over the years, we've done of a ton of remodeling projects and have worked with a number of contractors; our experience with Loma Verde has been the absolute best contractor experience we've ever had. They did outstanding work, they used high quality materials, their bid was very reasonable and they were always contentious, friendly and professional with us and our neighbors. I highly, highly recommend them. Our patio remodel project was really challenging and there were a lot of facets to it, including: drainage, retaining wall, concrete, stone work, irrigation, stone veneer, and a gazebo...not to mention tree and stump removal and concrete demo. They did an incredible job on all of it. Our stone floor was especially challenging since the stones varied in thickness from 1/2" to 2 1/2" - it was quite complicated for them to get the float just right so that the stones were perfectly level, and they did it! They did truly meticulous work, and not just on the floor, but on everything. Jose (the owner/contractor) has a really good eye for design and detail. He made several suggestions to improve on the plans provided by our landscape designer and thanks to Jose's ideas and the skill of his employees, our patio looks spectacular! They were so careful, too - when demo'ing our old concrete patio, I had some fragile shrubs right up against the cement that I wanted to preserve and I don't know how they did it, but they managed to protect the plants - there wasn't a single leaf missing on them. Very impressive! They're really honest, too, which is pretty rare for a contractor - they never tried to nickle-and-dime us. Midway through the project, we realized that we needed them to do some extra work to correct a problem created by a previous contractor, and Jose gave us a great deal for the extra work. Most contractors gouge people in these circumstances, but Jose is not like that at all - he's very honest and cost-conscious. Every time a friend sees our patio and the great work of Jose and his team, they all ask for Loma Verde's contact info - they're really THAT good. I can't believe how lucky we were to find Loma Verde, and how happy I am that we hired them. Jose should give classes to contractors to teach them how to work with clients and do things right. He's a really great guy and an incredible contractor. Loma Verde Gardens is absolutely fantastic. They did awesome work for us, and it was by far the best contractor experience we've ever had. The solution was quite simple, so he refused to charge me. I gave him a tip to keep the balance of Karma right. They laid Arizona flagstone to create a patio area and more, they built a fence and two gates and laid rock to create a garden area. Jose and his team have sort of become a part of our family! He's been working on our front and back yard for the past few months. He was so flexible and worked with our schedule. Jose was considerate of our budgetary needs and took the extra care to make sure we were happy every step of the way. The team started on the front yard first - we honestly should have provided more direction, but Jose just has a great eye for aesthetic and how to make a space feel like a home that it was easy for us to trust his choices. Whenever he had a question, he just called my cell and we chatted for a few minutes and were off on our ways. We were so happy with everything - our front yard fence gets compliments every time someone comes over! Best part yet, they did the front yard job in lightening fast time. It changed the entire feel of the property. As for the backyard.... what a dream space! Working with LVG was the best experience we've ever had with a contractor. After working with too many contractors who had absolutely no idea what they were doing or made excuses for sloppy jobs, we were thrilled to work with Jose and someone who is a true professional. Jose and his crew helped us with a major drainage problem with our house. We were getting significant amounts of water in our crawl space when it rained and could not find anyone who knew how to help us. We have a concrete alley on the one side of our house and the slope of the alley was basically directing all rain towards the front of our house and into the front portion of our crawl space. When we met with Jose (who came on a Saturday to give us an estimate), he immediately diagnosed our problem and gave us numerous solutions. LVG ended up ripping out a large bush, installing foundation liner against our house, installing a catch basin at the end of our alley connected to a partial french drain then connected to a solid pipe that drained to the edge of front yard with a bubbler, doing very neat concrete work around the catch basin to divert water, tying in one of our downspouts to the catch basin, and fixing a dip in our front yard. Jose is my gardening guardian angel! After moving from San Francisco where we had little more than a dirt strip around a concrete slab to the Peninsula where we now have an extensive garden...a veritable orchard of non-pruned trees and grass...I needed help in a big way. So I yelped and met with 3 different gardeners and I am so happy I went with Jose's group of gardeners. Jose is kind and professional and has a good sense of humor. He has helped me trim crazy vines, prune trees and pull out huge quantities of goodness knows what type of plant bulbs! Additionally, Jose repaired my existing sprinkler system that no longer worked. They rewired the system using the proper copper wire and set the 6 station timer for me. I hired Jose and his crew to clean up my WAY overgrown yard. It took all day, but his crew tamed the weeds. They actually pulled them out- not hacked them out with weed whackers. They sprayed the driveway cracks and left everything clean. Now I can't wait to plant things in the non-weedy spaces. LOMA VERDE GARDENS AND JOSE SALTO CONTINUE TO IGNORE A COURT ORDER. I had a terrible experience with Loma Verde Gardens. Not only did they have to come back 3 times to fix their work (ie. water pooling at the house, sod 3 inches above the patio level, clumpy finish, gopher mesh rusted out in a few months, etc)... but Jose Salto's customer service was horrible. The last time Jose came by the house to see the problems, he said he would come by in 2 days to finish. I never saw or heard from him again. I tried emailing and calling Jose about the problems, but he ignored me completely. I ended up having no choice but to take him to small claims court as he didn't want to do any mediation. After hearing mine and Jose's side of the story (yes, he did show up or court), the judge awarded me the FULL amount. Jose, even after getting the court's decision has continued to just ignore court's decision. I am now having to go to a collection agency to get what the court ordered Jose to pay me. DO YOU REALLY WANT SOMEONE LIKE THIS WORKING IN YOUR HOUSE/YARD? Jose Salto and Loma Verde Gardens clearly have no respect for the law or their customers... if you go with them, just cross your fingers they do a good job because they sure don't back up their work if they screw up!!!! read more

first thing first... -GET EVERYTHING YOU WANT DONE ON PAPER! -VERBAL AGREEMENT = NO AGREEMENT! okay, now with the review. We asked Jose to trim couple trees in our backyard and got an agreement from him to remove the trees/trunks/branches that he cut down. he gave us a quote and we nudged a little to cut back on the cost (all verbally agreed). first two days went fine. workers came cutting trees and removing branches. they did cut to the point where we asked them to. at the end, Jose personally took down some extra stuff as a courtesy but ended up leaving those leftovers in the backyard on the hill. We asked him about the remaining stuff and he said he cut as a courtesy and will not remove those. he said he'll be happy to give us a quote to take out the stuff. basically in the end, our bargain became having a bunch of branchs in the back yard. which means he wanted the original quote he gave us to remove all the stuff... i give them 4 stars for removing 80% of the junk. cutting more trees than promised and clearing up the gutter. read more

Called Jose to get an estimate for our landscaping needs. Was very nice on the phone and scheduled to come by not even a week later. Was on time, looked at my project and told me he would have an estimate shortly. A week passed and nothing, so I contacted him again, to make sure he did not have any questions. He sent me a text stating that he was too busy to do the work! Then why waste my time and his time coming to do an estimate in the first place? What is it with landscapers and being that busy? The person I was able to get a hold of was really friendly. He tried to accommodate the estimate time to what was most convenient for me (almost 6pm). However, the reason I am giving them a one star is that I do not know how well the company operates beyond answering the phone and making an appointment. Not only did the estimator fail to show up for the appointment, I was not afforded the courtesy of phone call to inform me of the cancellation. Seeing as how there was no call the following day either to explain/apologize for the no-show, I kind of just figured it be best to not work with such an unreliable company that may not show up the first day of of work after they collected my deposit. Very nice, attentive, very knowledgeable, efficient, professional, and charges reasonable price - everything we hope for when hiring somebody to do some job for us. Fortunately, we met Jose. He and his crew did a fantastic fence job and exceeded our expectation. Weeks past after the job was done, we had to elevate the flooring and that meant our new gate fence needed to get readjusted and reinstalled. We had to call him back to get it done. This is a long-overdue review. We hired Jose and his team to do a pretty major overhaul of our front yard and put in brand new fencing. It was a big job that required ripping up a full front yard of concrete, laying a quarry stone driveway and walkway, and doing both a front and backyard fence. Jose was pleasant, accommodating and communicative. His price quote for the whole job was very reasonable. His guys did fantastic work, and relatively quickly. The stone work on the driveway and walkway turned out beautiful, and they did a great job on a fairly intricate fence. Jose was also so responsive. Along the way we had a few hiccups in the project, but any time I brought up concerns, Jose responded very quickly and got his guys out to fix the issue. For example, we realized more than a month after the job completed that the fence was actually blocking our water meter access, something we all just overlooked during the project. His guys had it fixed very quickly, even though they were on to new projects and it was weeks after our project. We loved working with Jose and his team. If we have any other landscaping projects in the future, we will definitely be using his company again. read more

It was a true privilege working with Jose and Loma Verde gardens! I cannot say enough good things about their meticulous nature, positive attitude, adherence to timelines and respect for the project budget. By way of background, we purchased a house and set about restoring the house and yard (an extensive project). Yard to do list: demolition, install flagstone walkways in front and rear, gravel areas, veggie box, irrigation system, lighting, sod in front and rear, ground cover, trees, all plants in front and rear, seat walls in front and rear, pergola, fire table and deck. Jose referred us to an outside group that provided a compelling vision for the design - we then competitively bid out the design to four different landscape companies...and Loma Verde came out with the best bid and were able to start work immediately. The house is an English tudor, and we wanted to yard to have an English garden feel, while not being too stuffy. Jose helped to modify the landscape architect's plans where needed to save money and/or time. He fully executed our landscape design on time and under budget without cutting any corners. If any mistakes were made, they were acknowledged immediately and fixed promptly. Finally, Jose didn't disappear upon completion of the job - he was kind enough to check in and thoughtfully fix little nits and nats in the final implementation (all free of charge). It was a true pleasure watching the design come to life, and now to see it come to completion. Finally Jose was kind enough to set up a very reasonable maintenance service to come and service our beautiful new garden weekly. We cannot imagine living in this property without our new landscaping; as a result we spend as much time as possible outside. Jose is a true professional and a terrific human being. I cannot give him any higher praise for his work for our family. We unfortunately had the same experience as some other reviewers. Jose came promptly to our house and gave us an estimate. I then tried to follow up with him several times both via email and phone with no response. I finally got ahold of him via phone and informed him that we definitely want to proceed with the job as quickly as possible. He said he would call me back the following day with a start date and work schedule. I've never heard back from him. I wasted weeks waiting for him. This is simply dishonest and unprofessional.
