The best Malasadas in Hawai'i hands down, it doesn't even come close! It makes me want to believe the world is flat!

I just discovered this cute food trailer "Cafe Parkside" on Yelp as I was looking for restaurants…read morein Kalihi. Not sure where it was located in Kalihi, but I was determined to find it. I was at Richies Drive inn when I remembered to check out this place. It was about a couple lanes or two further down North King Street heading west and sure enough you can spot the cute food trailer in the parking lot. Did you know the family built this wooden cafe on the trailer together?! The Kids helped built this with the direction of their father. They are parked near the street in the shared parking lot with the Pawn shop & Jackson Hewett Tax Servive. It's across the Kapalama Post office but before the old Pizza Hut location and I think after Palace Saimin You would only see the cafe on the trailer from Tuesday-Friday from 11am -5pm. There are some picnic benches and chairs under the canopy tent while you wait. In the beginning they started out in Waimanalo but for now they are here in Kalihi. They are known for their Steak and Shrimp plate and their two huge pieces of boneless fried chicken. They have some regular items and some specials of the day. Best to call ahead and place your order. The fried chicken would take the longest about 10 minutes wait time. They have some other items which sounded good like pot roast pork which is not offered all the time, hamburger steak. Kalbi, loco moco, bbq chicken, etc. On a hot day, shave ice and slushies and slushes floats would be refreshing. They have lemonade and orange aid slushies , but I got an orange aid slushie float with ice cream. I decided to get the fried chicken since I had some time to wait. it was huge as the photos posted and it was $12! It was hot and crispy in a seasoned flour battered. I couldn't wait to take a bite as I was driving, but I just tried part of the fried batter. It was seasoned so it was a little salty for me perhaps I just ate the batter part. The chicken gravy given was really good but having two humongous boneless chicken, I may need more gravy than the large portion cup given. Chicken tasted better after pouring some of the gravy over it. The gravy was yummy and not the brown gravy, but the light tan gravy! I'm looking forward to try more dishes like the rib eye steak, pot roast pork or some other specials. Please support this family own business! Daily specials are posted on their Instagram page @cafeparkside808. They were so nice and down to earth. I was grateful for their great & friendly service and they even offered to bring my order to my car since I wanted to wait in my car. They have some regular customers now but could use more customers since they are a new business. Prices were reasonable with generous portions. Still need to try more plates but I'll give them a rating of 4.5 stars rounded up! Thanks for reading my reviews =)

Over the years I've had…read morethe pleasure of trying a whole lot of the sweet pies, the chicken pot pie, and a variety of fresh mochi. Yesterday I was at a workshop where they had catered Sweet Revenge so I got chicken pot pie and a strawberry mochi pie. The chicken pot pie is exquisite and VERY filling (I ate half at lunch and saved the other half for dinner). The crust is phenomenal- very buttery and flakey. And it is PACKED with chunks of tender chicken (and some peas and carrots). When I crave chicken pot pie it's always this one I want. The strawberry mochi pie was also delightful with lots of fresh strawberry and mochi chunks on top of a good amount of custard. Every bit of it had all the flavors. And although it's definitely sweet, it wasn't overwhelmingly so. I would definitely recommend both.

I came for comfort food and left emotionally attached to pie…read more The chicken pot pie was next-level cozy. The crust was perfectly golden and flaky -- not soggy, not too thick, just that buttery, shatter-when-you-touch-it kind of crust. Inside was creamy, savory goodness packed with tender chunks of chicken and veggies that still had a little bite. It tasted homemade in the best way, like the upgraded gourmet version of something your favorite aunt would make. But the real surprise star? The strawberry banana custard pie topped with mochi. I did not expect to love this as much as I did. The custard was silky and not overly sweet, the strawberries added a fresh brightness, and the banana gave it that smooth, mellow flavor that tied everything together. And the mochi on top? Such a fun, chewy texture contrast that made every bite interesting. It somehow felt light and indulgent at the same time. Savory, sweet, creamy, chewy -- this place understands balance. I would 100% come back just for pie... and that says a lot.

When the food is ready, you get a text, pick-up is on the kitchen-side, backdoor. We'd heard good things about their steak, dynamite chicken, and ahi katsu so we wanted to try all three. There is a chicken + meat combo that allows you to upgrade the meat to ribeye; we ordered this plate with all green salad. Then we ordered the King Kam ahi katsu with rice and upgraded the side to imitation crab salad. If you love sauce, this is for you. Their fried items are nicely cooked, the ahi katsu had a nice rare center and the boneless chicken was still juicy, but both lost their crispness under a mountain of seasoned soy sauce, Kewpie mayo, sriracha aioli, and sweet chili sauce. With the additional garlic, katsuobushi, furikake, and green onion, these are flavor bombs. The ribeye had a nice char from the grill. It's served with a side of crack sauce which has a vinegar, fish sauce base, plus chili, garlic and cilantro. The heat from the steak and chicken withered the bed of green salad underneath, so we didn't eat it; serves us right for not getting rice and mac salad with a plate lunch. At Kingz, more is more. If you are looking for a new plate lunch spot, check them out.

I live up the street and take Mokauea to get to work everyday. Never went until my little bro said it was the best French dip he had. When he mentioned the white truck on the corner, I knew exactly which one. I've had their Benjamin sandwich and chowder before. But today, I really wanted a burger. Thought about this truck so I zoomed straight to there. Bacon was extra thick! The garlic aioli fries were to die for. This is also the first non-Mexican place I've seen have Jarritos as a drink. It's my favorite soda. It is a small area, so easy grab and go, but if you get a chance, eat under the umbrellas and enjoy some outside air. The owners are both super nice and charismatic. Very welcoming to the truck. Will definitely be back during my lunch breaks for work!

As soon as I opened the box, I was impressed by how generously stuffed the sandwich was with tuna, along with the large portion of chips on the side. The tuna melt was delicious, a flavorful tuna salad packed with pickles (I love pickles), served on perfectly toasted bread. Every bite was satisfying. The chips tasted fresh and homemade, and I even used some of the tuna that fell out of the sandwich as a dip for the chips, which was yummy! The staff was friendly, and I appreciated how easy it was to place an order by phone and pick it up without any hassle. Parking was also a breeze, plenty of stalls available next to the building, so there was no need to worry about finding parking. Overall, Leilei's is definitely a treat yourself type of meal. It's one of my favorite sandwich spots now!

Was perfect timing, hungry, never eat breakfast. Felt bad cuz was kind of parking right in front his food truck, felt like I was blocking, so we checked it out. Found out they was previously located on Cartwright Road in Waikiki between Paoakalani and Kapahulu, right by job, and I never bothered. I find it so coincidental to come across it in the boonies of kalihi lol Any way, no can go wrong with Wagyu. Not much choices, simple menu, but I ended up ordering a mini number 1, regular steak plate, and the wife ordered the number 4. I would say, was not bad. Like any other fast food steak joint like Blazin steaks. Did its job, fed the belly to make happy opu. Oh yeah, we ended up smashing right outside the truck, there's a cute little utility shelf with couple bar stools around for table. Made ourselves comfortable, and smashed. Yeah, was not bad. The reason why missing a star is cuz the wife said she paid, gave the money, I guess he got busy and must've forgot, but she was waiting for her change, and he never gave it. She even put a $10 bill in his tip jar, and even while we were outside of his truck eating, no change. But all good. Was only small change anyway, but still. Anyway, if u hungry for steak in the kalihi area, and like eat something else besides McDonald's sand island and Alicia's, check em out. Looks like they open from 8AM to 2PM M-F, 9-2 on Saturday and closed Sundays.
