Stopped for some malasadas, which are a Portuguese donut that are a Hawaiian staple. Leonard is THE place to get them, whether at a shop or good truck. We decided to try the traditional, which is just shipped in granulated sugar, a custard filled and a chocolate filled. These are not like regular donuts, l although say first glance the look like regular donuts. Malasadas are very eggy--almost like a wet custard pastry, if that makes any sense. I don't like weird textures, and while I did like them, the texture was a little on the custom of "iffy" for me. Hubby really liked them, and they tasted so delicious. Note of caution: they didn't seem to be the same the next day. The eggs texture made it seem kind of "wet" the next day, so the one we saved ended up in the trash. I'm giving it a five because they tasted delicious, and the texture issue is MY weird thing. Everyone else seems to love them, so I'm going with that! read more

It was in the corner of the Target parking lot and would have never guessed it was there. It was early in the morning and there was no line. We got 1/2 dozen of assorted flavors, some of them filled. 2nd time trying Leonard's! First time at this food truck location. Phone seemed to say Leonard's was in the mall but finally corrected to show the corner of the parking lot where the truck was. We had a little bit of a hard time trying to find Leonard's however, it was probably because we didn't read anything prior to going. Wanted to go to the smaller location as to avoid the lines and crowds. When we came, we walked through the mall looking around for it only to realize after reading and looking at the map that it was in the parking lot. Delicious malasadas! I have tried all of the flavors- custard, dobash (chocolate), and haupia (coconut). I like how the filling stays thick and custardy- it doesn't melt from the warmth of the malasada. They come out hot, though there is a bit of a wait. Well worth it! Texturally these are breadier than a yeast donut. A crisp exterior with an airier interior- bigger than I remember them being. I've been to the larger Leonard's location on Lumiaina St many times and their malasadas have been very consistent. I do prefer Manuela's malasadas, but these are still amazing! On 3/8/24 My husband and I were in this area and we stumbled across the food truck and we were so excited. We just had to stop by and purchase some malasadas. Located at target parking lot towards the rear. No outdoor seating available. We hadn't eaten lunch yet, so this was perfect to eat as a snack. We got the cinnamon sugar and the haupia. So fresh! and truly Yummylicious!! In my honest opinion, there is a difference between this one and the main restaurant off Waikiki area. This one was slightly more on the dense side (not terribly dense) which I liked. My experience at the main restaurant in Waikiki was not so great. Reason being it was not thoroughly cooked. It may have been rushed. The inside was still slightly doughy and I felt like I was eating halfway cooked dough. It was definitely not pleasant in my mouth, therefore, had to discard it. The truck is located in the parking lot of a closed Sears. These were just okay. I bet they'd be tastier if we warmed them up.
