Wings, Brussel sprouts, & Troparita cocktail
Angelica L.

This restaurant is located inside the Sonesta Silicon Valley hotel. It was pretty empty when we arrived around dinner time (~7 PM) on a weekday. We were super excited to try this place after reviewing their menu on their website but was disappointed when they had a reduced menu that's different from what's online. Wings ($12): These wings were alright. They were not crispy/crunchy so I assume they were lightly baked. They wings were pretty small in terms of size & portion so they were not worth $12. Brussel Sprouts With Nuoc Mam ($8): These were pretty good, but the portion was small. Definitely a unique flavor and something I would get again if I come back. Troparita ($14): This tiny cocktail packed a huge punch of Jalapeño flavor. It woke me up but not something I would want to taste for an entire drink.

Very nice ambiance. I ate at the bar, but the outside patio looked like a very nice place to relax and chit chat. There are fire places outside, so that adds to the relaxing vibes. I ordered during the happy hour, which had a pretty good variety on its menu. I wasn't much of a fan of the shrimp tacos- they were decent but the lettuce and toppings overpowered the shrimp, which was chopped up into tiny pieces. Probably had a total of two whole shrimps in it. The Salmon was very good and the flavors of the sauce were a perfect match for taste.

NOT open for lunch at all.

Good food. Quick and good food options. Reccomend, but pricey. Not really worth the money.

I never leave bad reviews and I don't mind overpriced drinks but the same bartender was rude three nights in a row to us.

I loved the jerk pork tacos! The pork was juicy, tender, and aromatic, and the mango-papaya salsa added a refreshing sweetness. I also tried the paella Oyo that my sister ordered which was sooo yummy and full of protein. The small size was more than enough! My mom ordered the oxtail stew which wasn't on their brunch/lunch menu (dinner only), but I really appreciate that they were accommodating to make that dish for her. I've never had oxtail and it was delicious--tender, perfectly sweet and savory, and paired well with the plantains. The other dishes that my family ordered were hits too (jerk pork shoulder and seafood paella). We also tried the ripe plantains pancake Oscar for a sweet treat. I love anything marshmallow, so the brûléed marshmallow cream that blanketed the pancakes was heavenly. It also came with a plantain on top and a few other fruits to balance out the sweetness. Overall, we left full and all around very satisfied. The staff showed us such warm hospitality and came around often to check on us, despite being an almost packed house. The decor was beautiful and the atmosphere had a fun lively energy. With indoor and outdoor seating options, anywhere you get seated is a nice spot. Can't wait to visit again to try their dinner menu items and drinks, and hopefully catch some live music!

The pupusas are delicious and very consistent, which is why I continue to order from here. However,…read moreI've run into a recurring issue with their promotion: when you order 10 pupusas, you're supposed to receive 1 free. Unfortunately, I've now been missing the free pupusa four orders in a row. Each time I called to let them know, I was told to come back to get the free one. After the third time this happened, I stopped calling and claiming my free one. Now I no longer order 10 and instead only get the 7 I need for my family. Because the free pupusa is consistently forgotten, they end up losing out on additional sales each time I order now. I really enjoy the food and hope they can fix this small but ongoing issue, as it affects repeat customers.

The yuca and carnitas had a peqular taste wich I couldn't quite figure out. Will pass on this item next time. The plantains were ok and the cream added some sweetness to them.

The staff was very accommodating and providing a heater since it was just a little Chilly. Our server was very quick and accommodating made great recommendations. My hubby had the crispy chicken sandwich and I did the grilled cheese and tomato soup. Both were exceptional. I enjoyed my grilled cheese sandwich and soup, but I will admit I kept asking for a bite of my husband's chicken sandwich because it was so good. We also had the deviled eggs, which I highly recommend.

The ambiance is cute with a small closed off glass area of wine and two seater table inside! Our waitress Dominique was amazing. She was able to give great recommendations for wines and food. She also made us feel taken cared of and was friendly/warm. The food is a mix of mexican/euro/american so there were a lot of different options. Here are the things we got: Appetizers - Parm crusted cauliflower: so good, nice and crunchy but not too heavily breaded. The chipotle mayo was delish - Chicharrones: so light and crispy! They were hot out of the fryer. It had a side of a corn cheese dip that was so good and made it more unique of a dish -- must try if you even kind of eat chicharrones. I don't generally like pork skin but I enjoyed it regardless. - Hamachi ceviche: this is a large sharing portion with chunks of hamachi and avocado. Good but not a must have. Entrees - Enchiladas: very cheesy and overall a good dish but I would skip this. - Shrimp tostadas: large size shrimp and it just comes with two tostadas so I don't think it was worth the price - Barramundi fillet: The fish was tender and juicy. I liked the marinades that came with it. I liked this dish with the rice because it made me feel homey. Good portion of fish. - Agua Chile Ribeye: This is a must have! The ribeye is sous vide so it was soo tender and juicy. The broth was really nice to keep everything moist and flavorful. Because we were celebrating a birthday, Dominique made a dessert with a nice special touch. Will definitely be back again!

For our entrees, we ordered the Argentinian Skirt Steak accompanied with Frites, Sautéed Greens, Fries and Chimichurri Sauce -- and the Mezcal Glazed King Salmon with Cashew Relish, Purple Potato Puree (so interesting!), Shaved Brussels Sprouts, and Chipotle Butter Sauce. Food was fantastic -- straight to the point and with boldness from the Latin influence. The ambiance aims for a higher end dining experience, and there is a full bar with additional seating. Must be a local favorite for Happy Hour and dinner. Jonathan was our server -- shout out to him for his efficiency, attentiveness, and professionalism. I tried the popular baleada, which is a home-made flour tortilla filled with a layer of mashed red beans, queso fresco, eggs and with or without meat (I got it with carne asada). The flour tortilla was just as other described - soft, buttery smooth, almost melt in your mouth goodness. The carne asada was dry and hard so I could've gone without. I bet a braised beef like barbacoa would've been perfect for this item. It also came with salsa and I selected mild which gave it a nice bright flavor. I also ordered a chicken tamale (they also offer pork) and I was surprised to find a whole chicken wing (no skin) stuffed into the tamale! I broke into it using a fork and hit something hard which turned out to be the bones. But honestly, this was one of the best tamales I've tried in a long time. Flavorful, moist, and a nice sized portion. It came wrapped in what I think was banana leaf. The service was fast on a Wednesday night and there were a handful of friendly patrons seated nearby. You could tell that they were regulars. The space was intimate with around 10-15 tables seating about 4 people each. Maya's Cafe menu has a wide assortment of dishes to choose from: serving breakfast dishes like chilaquiles, lunch items such as burritos, or soups and full on dinner plates with rice, beans, and choice of protein. There's even more selection and the whole menu is in Spanish so I'll be sure to use Google Translate next time!
