Wings, Brussel sprouts, & Troparita cocktail
    Angelica L.

This restaurant is located inside the Sonesta Silicon Valley hotel. It was pretty empty when we arrived around dinner time (~7 PM) on a weekday. We were super excited to try this place after reviewing their menu on their website but was disappointed when they had a reduced menu that's different from what's online. Wings ($12): These wings were alright. They were not crispy/crunchy so I assume they were lightly baked. They wings were pretty small in terms of size & portion so they were not worth $12. Brussel Sprouts With Nuoc Mam ($8): These were pretty good, but the portion was small. Definitely a unique flavor and something I would get again if I come back. Troparita ($14): This tiny cocktail packed a huge punch of Jalapeño flavor. It woke me up but not something I would want to taste for an entire drink.

Very nice ambiance. I ate at the bar, but the outside patio looked like a very nice place to relax and chit chat. There are fire places outside, so that adds to the relaxing vibes. I ordered during the happy hour, which had a pretty good variety on its menu. I wasn't much of a fan of the shrimp tacos- they were decent but the lettuce and toppings overpowered the shrimp, which was chopped up into tiny pieces. Probably had a total of two whole shrimps in it. The Salmon was very good and the flavors of the sauce were a perfect match for taste.

NOT open for lunch at all.

Good food. Quick and good food options. Reccomend, but pricey. Not really worth the money.

I never leave bad reviews and I don't mind overpriced drinks but the same bartender was rude three nights in a row to us.

Restaurant has both indoor seating with high and low tables, and outdoor patio seating. Small parking lot. I can imagine this is popular spot in evenings and weekends. We shared: Sampa explosion sampler - pao de queijo, coxinha and croquette. Picanha with salad - #1 recommendation from server. It was delicious juicy steak, 12oz serving is enough to split for 2. Comes with the breaded yucca crumbs which provides little extra crunch. Food tasted fresh. Comes with a bean stew which we tried but not huge fan of. Chicken Paulista - DH thought it was okay, nothing special. Parfait de crema - very sweet, rich and creamy. I was so full after.

The table ordered the jerk chicken, 2 coconut salmons, 2 P.O.G.s and I ordered a paella oyo! There were rave reviews from the group for the plantains. The Food: Street Food Double: The chutneys were incredibly flavorful, pairing perfectly with the well-cooked chickpeas. The bara pockets were wonderfully soft and delicious. Beef Patties: The pastry was beautifully crisp and savory. The spiced short rib filling was a total delight--it had a nice kick to it without being overly spicy, which I loved. Oxtail Stew: Generous portion size with plenty of chunky meat that literally falls off the bone. It was perfectly marinated in a great blend of spices. Pairing the stew with a side of their coconut rice is highly recommended! Banana Bread Pudding: Having heard so much hype about this, it was just alright for me. It was cooked perfectly and I appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet, but it lacked a real wow factor. The Drinks: Red Wine Sangria: Really nice, refreshing, and fruity. Chase The Devil: Fun to try if you want something different, and it has a decent kick, but I would probably skip it next time. The restaurant itself is spacious with plenty of seating. On top of that, the servers are friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful. Definitely worth a visit!

I tried the popular baleada, which is a home-made flour tortilla filled with a layer of mashed red beans, queso fresco, eggs and with or without meat (I got it with carne asada). The flour tortilla was just as other described - soft, buttery smooth, almost melt in your mouth goodness. The carne asada was dry and hard so I could've gone without. I bet a braised beef like barbacoa would've been perfect for this item. It also came with salsa and I selected mild which gave it a nice bright flavor. I also ordered a chicken tamale (they also offer pork) and I was surprised to find a whole chicken wing (no skin) stuffed into the tamale! I broke into it using a fork and hit something hard which turned out to be the bones. But honestly, this was one of the best tamales I've tried in a long time. Flavorful, moist, and a nice sized portion. It came wrapped in what I think was banana leaf. The service was fast on a Wednesday night and there were a handful of friendly patrons seated nearby. You could tell that they were regulars. The space was intimate with around 10-15 tables seating about 4 people each. Maya's Cafe menu has a wide assortment of dishes to choose from: serving breakfast dishes like chilaquiles, lunch items such as burritos, or soups and full on dinner plates with rice, beans, and choice of protein. There's even more selection and the whole menu is in Spanish so I'll be sure to use Google Translate next time!

The bread was super eggy in a good way. first love lychee hibiscus: The drink was tart and refreshing. It did have way too much ice though, about 60% of the drink was ice.
