It was a good size, not an overwhelming amount of beans and rice which had good flavor, a nice saltiness from the bacon though they seemed to go light on the bacon, and certainly no shortage of scrambled eggs which were delish. The mild salsa added just the right zestiness, and is recommended otherwise the burrito would be a bit dry (they offer jalapenos and spicier salsas too). Clean restaurant, indoor and outdoor seating available, ample parking in the plaza, friendly and efficient service, and about a 10-minute wait time on a Wednesday. I've been going to Burrito Express for well over a decade. My friend who introduced me to this restaurant has been a loyal customer since he was in elementary school (he's 35 now). We've never had a bad experience, rain or shine. Burrito Express is *the* spot for a quick bite, excellent friendly service, and the best salsa verde I've ever had. Highly recommend their burritos or asada fries with carnitas, or a machaca con huevos plate for a big breakfast. This is a small mom and pop shop, so don't expect anything but a family-run, longstanding cozy environment. But I can almost always guarantee that you'll leave with a delicious meal and a smile. Shaquille is really my personal highlight for this place, and always remembers my name when I come in, despite having moved out of the area and only coming in once in a blue moon. I haven't been back in a while, maybe a year or two actually. But I still think of this place often, and are glad that they're still a staple in Milpitas even after all these years. I drove down to Milpitas from the East Bay last weekend and decided to make a stop here while taking care of my other business due to hearing that this was one of the better burritos in the area and it's never a bad idea to support local businesses. The place was small but it didn't really need to be huge. There were no customers when I went so I was able to quickly order my food. I wanted to try more than one burrito so I got the California burrito with carnitas and the chorizo con papas. The wait for the food was longer than most taquerias I've gone to but I've personally never been too much of a stickler for a rushed service. Other than the relatively long wait, the customer service was spot on. The burritos were a good size for the relatively low price I paid. They were about the size of burritos I would get in the San Francisco Mission District (yes, I've been told that burritos in the San Jose area are better but I've never eaten one so I can't make a fair comparison to that). The California burrito was kind of underwhelming. While I understand that French fries are a staple of California burritos, I felt like the burrito I got was mostly fries and little else. The carnitas were also quite dry. I'm not a picky eater so I ate it anyway but the California burrito fell well below my expectations. On the other hand, the chorizo con papas burrito I had was delicious and surpassed my expectations. If I had to make a comparison, I would compare it to the breakfast burrito at San Francisco's El Farolito except with potatoes instead of salsa and avocado. Not gourmet but by far the better of the two burritos I bought. If I was a Milpitas local, I would happily come here every week for that burrito. However, since I'm an hour's drive away, it's unlikely I would ever again go out of my way to come here again unless I happen to already be in the area. read more

I've been eating here for over 3 different decades and it's such a solid place. They've really helped serve the community for so many years offering affordable and well-portioned Mexican food. It's so convenient to order from, too. I am a huge fan of their chicken nachos, their taco salads, and their steak fries. One tidbit I noticed was that I'm pretty sure they started marinating their carne asada with soy sauce or something similar to it. I'm not sure when they started doing it, but I don't think they originally did it. I personally don't mind, but it was an interesting flavor profile to come across. read more

Absolutely delicious Mexican place which is authentic and affordable. Their portion sizes are generous and the best part is that 3 meats are halal - Chicken, Steak and beef. The owner is really friendly and the place was clean. Service was quick and efficient. Really liked the steak chimichanga which was a bunch of beans, meat, fresh tomato, lettuce, sour cream, shredded cheese and sauce wrapped in a crispy dough wrap. You can order it with rice and beans or fries - they are very accommodating and are willing to adjust according to your taste. We also liked the chicken burrito which had cheese and fries and a sauce in it, a bit milder but you can get hot sauce on the side if you want. They have Mexican coke which goes very well with the food. I can tell this is a local favourite - the number of people trickling in and asking for their usual seemed to demonstrate that the food is good and the place has been around for a bit. About as much atmosphere as you would expect from a burrito place, but the bathroom was clean and the owner was pleasant and helpful throughout our meal. Hoping for a more elaborate vegan option for the other half (just some grilled zucchini and peppers would work!). Quality of the chicken meat in my burrito was fab. Food was mediocre as expected. It's like the fast food of Mexican Restaurants. Not great, but good in a pinch. The reason for the one star is I was eating outside and this guy walks up and into the restaurant with no mask. Not sure if he was just an employee who was off duty, but he walked in talking loudly, without any mask, rang himself up a meal and it looks like he didn't pay. There's literally a sign mandating that employees wear their masks. He was acting like a huge moron too and swearing left and right. So if the owners of the business read this and this is your employee, he wasn't wearing a mask and he was very unprofessional. If he isn't one of your employees, the employees that are there are allowing him inside mask less, allowing him to go behind the register and letting him steal food. read more

Great burrito and excellent service! We had the asada burritos, and they were able to accommodate my kids' preference for beans on the side! I never thought of that option but it helped tremendously so the kids can share a burrito without fighting! Service was patient and the kids also got martinelli's apple juice. I would go here again if I am craving burritos. The parking is ample. Family was dining outside, and they also have indoor dining as well. Great for a quick lunch spot. read more

Eh. My fiancée ordered their chimichanga which was a fire-grilled burrito with sour cream and lettuce on top of the burrito. They took almost 20 mins making the burrito because they were cooking the carne asada. The meat was dry and bland. The steak bits tasted like Asian marinated sweet-soy beef. Weird I thought. If you grew up in Milpitas you know the spot. To me, this is a staple in Milpitas especially after school. The owner is always friendly & welcoming. If you're in a hurry I don't recommend coming here once the high school gets out. Like I said, after school this is the go to spot. On the plus side, you can always call ahead and it's usually done within 10-15 minutes. The chicken nachos are hands down THE best! The chicken is shredded and juicy on top of crispy chips with melted cheese. This menu item is simple : chips, cheese, chicken lettuce and sour cream. I typically take off the lettuce and add pinto beans. Before you leave don't forget your salsa. If you're staying the place is a bit small with about 6 tables that seat 2 people unless you pull up a chair. There are a few tables outside too. read more

Then the burrito on a second occasion had like this tough carne asada almost like when you microwave left over carne asada. They serve you to go in a three compartment container but fill all the rice and beans in one of the like 2oz compartment in the container then the other is left empty I mean, how expensive is beans and rice that a restaurant would bundle it in one compartment and leave the other empty. Oh and then they will not give you more than two sauces because as I was told "we sell it"; I wonder if it's always been this way, or if times are tought for the owner. For those of us who grew up in Milpitas or going to school in Milpitas over the last 25ish years or so burrito express has been a staple of the local Milpitas diet. We all remember going there after school and hanging out, ordering the same thing, bothering Shaquille. 20 years now after we still do the same thing. For those of us who moved away we always make it a point to go eat and say hi to the owner Shaquille whenever I'm town. Our friends and family who still live here still eat here on a weekly basis. Our friends kids and family members who still attend school here go to burrito express regularly after school and Shaquille is still just as good about remembering names, faces and orders. As far as food our favorites have always been chicken nachos, California burrito, express burrito, chicken tacos. as somebody who has probably had everything on the menu I can honestly say you can't go wrong no matter what you order. And to Shaquille; Daniel, Eric, Drew, Tim, the whole crew and I always remember you and burrito express and do our best to come eat and check in when in town. At first glance, nothing seems all that great about this place. The types of meats they offer are limited, salsa bar is small, and the decor is minimal. However, don't let all those "negatives" stop you from trying this place out, most notably this place is popular by many of the locals around here. I've seen this place hundreds of time but never stopped in to try it until I had to run an errand nearby. I wasn't feeling like a taco or burrito that day and decided to try their nachos. Can I just say, "OMFG! Why haven't I tried this place sooner?!" after my first bite of their nachos. I know, you think nacho, some chips, some meat, cheese and lettuce, "What's the big deal?" You've got to try it to believe it. The chips were thin and crisp. The cheese melted perfectly. The shredded beef was flavorful, mix it all together and you have really good nachos that even my picky sibling enjoyed. I ordered carne asada nachoes hoping that it might look similar to the image on DoorDash. Not even close. The carne asada tasted like it was boiled. It was incredibly dry. Probably the best "quick" Mexican place in Milpitas right now, especially after Mini Taqueria closed. The guy at the counter is always friendly and will happily make recommendations. He doesn't make you feel bad if you don't know something. The food has always been really good for me. I still don't know how to eat a chimichanga without making a gruesome mess but it was delicious. They sell Mexican Coke as well as regular, so that's cool. My only complaint is that the interior and furniture is still pretty old and beat-up. Even if they are cleaning it regularly it still doesn't look like the most welcoming place to sit and eat. A remodel just to sharpen the appearance would be nice. All Milpitas High School alum have spent copious off-campus lunches jockeying for an outside table at Burrito Express. Prices are excellent - $5 for a burrito with choice of meat, rice, beans, cheese and sour cream. $2.50 for a chile relleno or an enchilada. In high school, we used to get the lunch special, a burrito and a drink, and split it. Generous portions were always enough for two.
