    Hot Roast Beef Sandwich
    Jon B.

It was like going back in time, loved the nostalgia and diner feel, the waitress was very nice. I'm a beef sand guy and wasn't disappointed!! Reminded me of a long gone place called Eppingers in Portersville. It was fantastic!!! Can't wait to go back and have it again. My wife loved the Shaved Steak sand(next time will ask for bread toasted). It was seasoned great and tasty!! Nice hidden gem!!

Actually a neat little place to go. Food was good, portions were good, staff was friendly and just fast enough to not make you feel rushed. Would definitely go back.

Maybe if I had grown up going to this restaurant it would have been a real hit for me...the restaurant was filled with people who seemed like they had been around the block a time or two and frequent Maple Restaurant. They LOVE it there, which makes my heart happy! I love to see people out enjoying food they love. I personally didn't think the food was special at all, including the famous hot beef. The hamburger I got wasn't too exciting either. Maybe it's just not my kind of food though? It's very much so traditional old style home cooking, and for some, that is the perfect meal. The service was wonderful and they were very accommodating to our one year old who was having the time of his life enjoying a little side of applesauce. I keep going back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. For me, a 4 star restaurant has amazing food and great service, but I settled on a 3 because only one of those was present. Great service, average food.

Roast Turkey Dinner with Stuffing Saturday Special

The Maple Restaurant is definitely a local favorite, and it is obvious when you enter and the place is full. They are well-staffed with friendly servers and quick service. My last visit, which was the day of writing this review, was a Saturday evening and we watched customers fill every table. We came at just the right time before the rush. The restaurant itself is clean and spacious. My mom has taken me to the Maple for years and it has looked practically the same other than maybe the light on the walls at the booths and little things like that, and I see that as a good thing. I like consistency and Maple has been a consistently great place for us and it is highly nostalgic for me. I most recently ordered the Special Turkey Dinner with mashed potatoes, stuffing inside, roast turkey all covered in their yellow gravy. It also came with a little cup of cranberry sauce and a second side and I picked a nicely cooked vegetable medley with carrots, green beans, and corn. Everything was delightful. The turkey dinner was actually a meal I heard was good and saw online and had wanted to try for a long while. I also get their fish sandwich a lot. It is a huge filet of fish, too. I live near the water and nobody serves as solid of a fish sandwich for such a fair price near me. That does not make sense to me. Before he passed away, I have memories of getting the large fish sandwich, eating half of it in the restaurant, then he would steal my leftovers. The hot roast beef sandwich is a classic. I sampled some from a diner at my table and it is as spectacular as can be. No restaurants near me in Virginia serve anything even close to it, either. The Maple Restaurant is surely one of my favorite places to eat in the area.

We weren't sure what to expect as we drove to Maple Restaurant this afternoon but once we arrived we got a good feel for what a well-loved neighborhood establishment this is. Maple Restaurant has been here since the 1960's and has been operated by the same family for three generations. When we walked in we were quickly seated and go to take in a lot of the memorabilia on the walls. It's a fun and cozy environment where we got the sense that most all the patrons were local as several people were greeting each other by name even. My wife ordered one of the burgers with a side salad and I got the classic hot beef sandwich with fries smothered in gravy. The wait was not terribly long which was nice considering how hungry we were, and our server was attentive to filling our drinks. Once the food arrived it was time to dig in and the hot beef sandwich was nice! Loaded with meat and a heaping pile of fries--it was very filling! The burger was also a nice size but my wife complained of a couple pretty gristly bites that were a little unpleasant. Either way, food was plentiful, prices were fair, and service was friendly. Good experience.

I ended up ordering a pizza at the counter and then sitting at a table but typically you would be sat by someone for a dine in meal. The garden goat looks like a salad on top of pizza and I loved every bite of it! The arugula is tossed in a lemon dressing and it is such a wonderful compliment to the rest of the pizza. I did order a side of marinara to dip my crust in - I like saucy food and this pizza comes with olive oil base instead of a sauce base. It was delicious all around! Their crust is thin and crisp from the wood fired oven. You can see their large oven from the counter or dining room depending on where you are sat. They also service gelato which looked good too but tiramisu is my weakness. Service was friendly and understanding once they realized I was there to dine in alone. Can't wait to come back with my husband!

Lots of people coming through ordering pizzas to go, but also lots of space to eat here with full service. We had Pizza Passports and got the two personal sized pizzas offered through those, one garlic rosemary and one margherita. The flavors in both were on point and I loved the little bit of char from the woodfired oven. We also ordered a large tossed salad, which was more than big enough for two people to share and came with two dressings, our server was also thoughtful enough to bring two plates. Finally we had to order some gelato upon seeing it when we walked in. We had one tiramisu and one coffee crunch flavor and although they weren't quite as rich in texture as some gelatos I've had, the texture was very good and the flavors were delicious. The vibes here are also very cool. Beautiful stained glass type art on the walls that seemed to refer to the Quakers, beautiful fairy lights hanging from the ceiling, and lots of black dog related artwork which made me smile. Service was attentive and helpful and this was just an all-around great visit.

The restaurant is cozy and has a small variety of Latin American cuisine, with focus on Peruvian. Wine was not available that evening for some reason, so I went to a street vendor and purchased a 1/2 of an open bottle, and headed back to Torogoz. I decided to order the Lomo Saltado, which I hadn't had in Pittsburgh. The dish had tender well seasoned filet mignon plus skinny fries and couscous. It's a reflection of Chinese influence on Peruvian culinary . I really enjoyed it. Chef Julio stopped by to say which was lovely. We chatted a little bit about moving from California to Pittsburgh. Nice to hear that he settled in nicely with his family and is happy to call Pittsburgh home. Jenny, his wife, was also helping that evening. It was a pleasure speaking with them. I was surprised to receive a corkage fee of $15 without proper communication. I only brought an already uncorked half a bottle due to the BYOB circumstances, but they did remove it when I questioned it. I wish success to the business and hope that more people come to enjoy the Latin American flavors of Torogoz in Sewickley

Inside there are display cases filled with baked goods, plenty of tables, and a small, comfortable seating area. They also have some fun seating options, including stools shaped like bagels and donuts, which my kids enjoyed. Even though I went inside, I was not feeling my best, so my wife handled the ordering on this visit. She ended up choosing a hot Snickerdoodle latte for me, which was made with vanilla, honey, and cinnamon. The coffee ended up being quite good. The drink started with a pleasant sweetness and a prominent cinnamon flavor before the rich coffee notes emerged on the finish. Since the espresso still came through despite the flavorings, I suspect they use a fairly robust espresso blend. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoyed our drinks, and the baked goods looked tempting as well. My wife and daughter had visited previously and enjoyed the food, which only gives me another reason to come back and try more of the menu.
