Food was sub par.... Ordered the grilled chicken supposedly comes with peppers, onion and cheese on a hoagie roll. Evidently that translates to burnt chicken and cheese on a hard roll... Asked for lettuce and tomato and was told they don't have that. You're a breakfast/sandwich place and you don't have lettuce and tomato?? Weird. Girlfriend got a cheesesteak which was served on white bread. Also weird. Cook and waitress never washed their hands and touched EVERYTHING! Gross! Will not return; but then again by the looks of the clientele in there I don't think the owners care. read more

If was very clear that if you are a regular, you are treated well, but if you aren't, it was almost as if you didn't exist. I walked in and asked about seating. Was told to pick anywhere. Waited quite a bit before any acknowledgment of the fact I had come in and sat down. I was greeted with "what do you want" like I was inconveniencing the server by taking up space (even though there was definitely still plenty of seating available) My breakfast was ok but nothing I'd go back for. If you are friends with a regular, maybe try this place out but if not, I'd try someplace else. read more

Stopped here after mountain biking in North Park. This is a mom and pop shop that has a very quaint dinner atmosphere. The iced tea was cold and smooth. Ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The hand cut fries were a surprise, and nice and crunchy. Cheeseburger hit the spot. Service was great with the amount of tea we drank. I would definitely return because the other sandwiches looked amazing, especially the chicken salad. read more

Stopped for breakfast at this cute little place. It's totally old school and reminds me of all the places like this that used to be around. Staff was nice and service and food where great. Also it's so nice to be able to support small businesses that also support small local businesses such as using bread works bread and other local ingredients. Good solid roadside cafe. Chubbs breakfast special was delicious (home fries are done well, super crispy and lots of great flavor). Had the Philly cheesesteak omelette. A little dry but once I hit it with their hot sauce, it was perfect. Good staple for a quick bite with great service. read more

Food was very good, but service was beyond disappointing. Had a waitress with short hair that looked and appeared beyond disgusted that we were dining in at lunchtime. We were the only ones there at the time. Waitress had a lousy attitude and clearly didn't want to be at work. I also noticed the other employe who was cooking the food glaring at us as we ate which made us feel uncomfortable and I welcomed. Based on that experience, I will not be back to this establishment. If you don't want to deal with customers then you're in the wrong profession or maybe it's time to retire! read more

Food was really good! Service was fair. Biggest comment is waitresses touching everything - face, hands, hair, money, cash register, other dirty plates utensils, just everything and anything and then they touch your food - like buttering toast after that! No hand washing and no glove wearing. Completely grossed out. Health code enforcement would be all over that as a violation. And second to that is waitresses and other staff standing over the grill talking to the cook while the cook is cooking. But the hands touching all kinds of stuff then they pick up the bread and butter your toast - ick! read more

I don't understand the five star ratings here. I don't want to knock this place, but call it what it is: a great greasy-spoon breakfast spot by North Park. The atmosphere is a spartan diner with hard chairs and stools. Don't let this stop you from eating here if you want a griddle cooked breakfast. My western omelette had some nice char on the ham and peppers. It was satisfying, but just don't come in expecting five star-food. read more

Place wasn't the cleanest and the cans of soda were served frozen There were items on the menu that were not available ( soups and chili) so we opted for the Primanti's style sandwiches that were OK. Once again I'm forced to ask, "How have I never heard of this place before?" I saw a DoubleTake Deal for this place called Chub's and noticed that it wasn't too far from work and they served breakfast. Any further information was difficult to find. A few reviews on Urbanspoon and only one Yelp review? Sigh. I optimistically gave it a try. And I'm glad I did! I've probably driven by it before but never noticed it or thought it was part of the golf course it sits next to because it is an odd location. But there's a huge parking lot you can turn into if you almost fly right by it like I did. It was a weekday morning and we were the first customers of the day at 7:30am. The service was very friendly and attentive. We had some questions about menu items but my friend and I both went with Chub's Breakfast - two eggs, home fries, toast and meat. I of course selected the bacon, my friend the ham. The cost was under $7 for each. It wasn't anything all that extraordinary for a breakfast, but the home fries were buttery and so delicious. We both received hefty portions of our meat selections. My coffee cup was never empty. There is a plethora of breakfast places around so unless you have a unique menu item, the draw has to be the cost and your service. Wonderful family atmosphere with young boys talking loudly about their last game and multiple generations listening to every syllable. When it comes to a Greasy Spoon, I'm your expert. This cute little diner sure fits the bill. It probably seats about 25 people, but they also have counter seating. There's apparently always the same one lady doing the cooking, and man can she grill up some good grub. We went for breakfast while visiting family and paid very little for a satisfying breakfast of 2 eggs, hashbrowns, bread (homemade from a nearby bakery) and bacon. Nothing fancy, just your standard breakfast or sandwich fare. I've heard that if you use the restroom there you will leave without eating, so go before you arrive. Part of the appeal is the fact that the same people come here every week. Another part of the appeal is guessing who in the diner drove the Jaguar that is parked in their gravel parking lot. Chub's is one of those quintessential yinzer diners that you just have to visit if you're sick of waiting in long lines at nearby Kelly O's or the various Pamela's Diners scattered all throughout Pittsburgh. For a change in pace from your overpriced chain breakfasts, you can expect a meal made with love and lots of butter thrown on the flattop. It's a tiny, homey place with a handful of stools at the bar and maybe 10 tables in the whole train-car shaped restaurant, but if you dig the Yinzer aesthetic (cash-only, Post Gazette clippings about Stillers/Buccos highlights hanging on the walls, hometown fundraising at the cash register and snarky, funny metal signs hung above the stovetops), you've gotta stop. Yes, it's a little greasy... it's a down-home diner. Questionable cleanliness is a reason I had to knock my formerly 4-star rating to a 3-star. I honestly don't think it's any different than what's happening in the closed off kitchens at Denny's or IHOP though, to be quite frank. Quirks aside, I'm so thankful to have a hometown diner like this within walking distance of my apartment. I've never been disappointed with their generous portions, and the service is provided by women who you can just tell have been waitresses and/or cooks most of their adult lives. But they will proudly tell you that its name is a derivation of the canine staple, Alpo. And the dish is totally appropriate for this establishment. If you like the run down diner look, this is the place for you. If you want a poor replica of the Primanti sandwich, this too, is the place to go. If you want to see the most corroded restroom faucet, ever, try the men s room. If you want to sit at a dirty table, on a dirty chair, then you ll love this place. This place is terrible. The staff was unfriendly from the get go. I got an omelet, which was essentially just greasy sausage and ham and eggs, no cheese. My friends got a cheeseburger and a cup of soup. When we got our bill, the total was $27.00. I said there was no way that was accurate, and she told me that was not expensive for three people. One of us only got a cup of soup! They charged four dollars for me to get two meats in my omelet, which is ridiculous. To top it off, the establishment is dirty too.
