On the way home from a Vikings game, my friends and I decided to stop and get some java to start the road trip back. We found this place was close to our Airbnb so we decided to give it a shot. It was a tad hard to find as it was in a building with a global market, but everything else was closed. We just didn't know where to enter the building. Oh well, not a big deal at all. We go in, see it immediately, and step up to the counter to place our orders. The woman at the counter was super nice and patient as we looked at all of the possibilities. I stopped by here this past Sunday with my wife for an afternoon pick me up. Mapps is located inside the midtown market and so is more of a food stand than anything else. Even so their counter has multiple bags of coffee for sale and they even have a coffee roaster. Whether or not its operational or decoration is another question but it looked pretty cool. Since it was almost 100 degrees outside, I forewent my usual Americano and went straight to an iced coffee. It was ready within a minute or two and I gave it a try. The coffee here was alright with the initial taste being good but I really disliked the finish which put out a staleish taste. Thankfully I was able to add some half and half which made the drink smoother and cut out that taste. The bottom line for me is that I might head back here again in the future but only in a pinch. While I didn't think that the coffee from here was great, it wasn't horrible either. read more

Mapps Coffee is located inside the Midtown Global Market- so if you work in the area or are visiting the market it is convenient and a good option for a little pick me up. The drink was good- not too sweet but I would have liked a stronger coffee taste. The apple turnover was delicious but definitely very sweet. This is becoming my new favorite coffee spot. This is my third time here and each time I've left very satisfied. It's located in the midtown global market, I work across the street from and usually go before I start work. They don't open until 6:30am but they always serve me and other customers before they open (usually 10-15 minutes before they open) which is very nice. The staff is very friendly. I usually get the white chocolate mocha and one of their pastries. The white chocolate mocha is just as good as Starbucks but cheaper! The iced caramel frappe is also delicious. If your looking for good coffee that's not gonna cost you and arm and a leg I recommend giving this place a try. read more

NOT a friendly vibe and a poor fit with the rest of the Midtown Market. The sign lists drinks by Small, Medium and Large for 2 espresso shots , 3 and 4. And priced for the 3 sizes. But when I went today, the small Big Bang , listed under 2 shots (see attached picture, was not $2.25 but 3.25. I was told the sign was incorrect and that smalls were only a single espresso shot. 2 shots would be an additional dollar. I pointed out that the sign listed the drink as 2 shots and told that the sign did not matter. Yes I was reading it right, they said, as they laughed at me. But the sign was wrong. We went around a bit, the clarity of the sign vs the particularly of that drink. I never tried their coffee but it did take a while to regain equilibrium from this Trumpian experience. read more

Awesome place inside Midtown Global Market! I had to go to the MN DVS which is in the basement of this building, and I stopped at Mapps after to get my coffee and danish fix. This little coffee stand is inside the Midtown Global Market. They had a lot of drink options including some unique combinations. I tried the cinnamon honey latte which is called a Cafe Miel. The espresso was really tasty and I liked the natural sweetness of the honey but the cinnamon was a little more Red Hots than I usually like - not sure if they used a cinnamon flavouring over actual cinnamon spice but it was pretty cinnamon-y if you're into that. I think it would taste a lot better iced. If you only have debit/credit, note there's a $5 minimum but there's plenty of pastries to get along with your drink that will take you over that minimum easily but is worth it. Overall, better than Caribou or Dunn Bros for sure with cheap prices and friendly, fast service. If this place was more convenient for me, I would definitely frequent. read more

Possibly one of the most ridiculous experiences Ive ever had. I ordered a triple 12oz americano (after I asked if they did 8oz which was a no). The barista put the paper cup under the portafilter, using a shelf that made it impossible to know what the shots looked like until it was handed to me. When I got the cup it had 5oz of espresso and zero water. It was clear that the guy had little idea of what he was doing and had little knowledge about the business itself. I pass by this shop everyday and decided to stopped by here for a break from my rotations. This coffee shop was located inside the mid-town global market. The seating is limited but most coffee grabbers come and go. The lines are acceptable most of the time except mornings where everyone gets the jitters. I only had the white mocha frap with whipped cream and it made me into a happy kid. I know I have a professional image to upkeep but I couldn't help but make sounds of slurping the last bit of whipped cream as I finish my drink. I absolutely LOVE this place. I am a student at the Carlson School, and as everyone that the U knows, we have a Starbucks in our building. However, I would much rather walk a block to Mapps for coffee. It's cheaper and it tastes much better. Being Indian, I don't usually like chai that's not homemade, but apart from one barista, the chai at Mapps is AMAZING. The ambience is also perfect for studying - makes sense since it's right off campus. They also make good cafe miel, cappuccinos, herbal tea, and pastries (muffins, cookies, croissants, etc) Be mindful of one barista, though. I'm not sure of her name but shes a tall, skinny dirty blonde with a crop cut. It seems every time she makes my coffee, it is either tasteless or burnt. I went there for a smoothie and pastry when picking my pastry I was still deciding the owner took it upon herself to yell "Just like you people if you don't know what you want im not going to help you " I then responded by that's fine I'll take my business elsewhere which I did I walked around to La Lomas and ordered as I waited for my food I was approached by 2 security guards because the owner decided to call them on me and tell them I was being "rude and threatening" and I should apologize which I absolutely refuse. Prices on the giant menu board are wrong and the barista didn't even seem to understand that was an issue, let alone honor the price as posted. I would have been a couple cents short in cash for tax on a $2.25 drink - I'd hope a kind barista would give me a break! Instead, the drink was $2.50 before tax, AND because I didn't have enough cash, I was charged a $0.50 cent extra fee for a card purchase under $5, bringing a small iced coffee over $3. That's literally fraudulent, but it's a cup of coffee so I just took my drink and left, but I didn't even get an apology. Yikes. read more

Once in a while I buy beans from Mapps. Mostly they roast light to medium, and they have a pretty good variety of origins from Africa to the Americas to the Pacific - I especially like their Guatemala Antigua. It's hard to beat the prices here - $10/lb for fresh roasted specialty beans? Maybe it's not the best coffee in the cities, but it's a great value. read more
