For Sunnysiders, there was a time when Marabella was the go-to option for all things pizza. They are still the lifeblood of 41st & Greenpoint, a dreaded corner where many businesses don't survive. The old school charm is nice, which for many New Yorkers the preservation of such places is equally as important as the pizza itself. The pizza has had its ups and downs. Some slices have been hearty and crusty one moment and flimsy and floppy the next. I feel like the sauce has gotten sweeter, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but there is a some element that has ventured off somewhat. The TLC factor has been missing in some of their pies for quite some time, but I would stick to classic toppings for the sake of simplicity. For novelty seekers, the chicken focaccia (aka pizza sandwich) looks like an adventure. Despite substantial portions, the pastas are a no-go on this end. I feel the cannolis and stromboli options are solid and I appreciate the calzones are still packed with a dense amount of cheese. Their wings have been a focal point on their menu for years, but I haven't indulged since their price increase. The service has been their saving grace. The deliveries are speedy and the guys behind the counter are polite and efficient. If this place stands any chance at staying the course, then the staff will play a big part of it. No one is allowed to eat indoors as it is blocked off. I went since I haven't ate their pizza and pastas in a long time. I ordered pizza to take out. I won't be returning as the pizza is so salty and their pasta wasn't good. The flavoring was just off and my stomach hurt in the end. I guess the wings were alright with the sauces they gave with it. But if a pasta/ pizza shop can only get their wings right it doesn't make any sense. read more

I don't come to Sunnyside very often but when I do you better believe this pizza spot is on my mind. I have very fond memories of coming here to grab a slice. Really great spot to come to if you were day drinking as well. It's right smack on the corner and you can smell the pizza from up the block. I wasn't able to eat pizza on the day I took photos so I found myself eating their calzone. I was very pleased because it was not soggy and the cheese was just right. I could have used some more broccoli inside of the calzone but that is ok. I recommend getting a dipping sauce of marinara because it makes it taste even better. My significant other ordered the chicken with pesto, mozzarella cheese and tomato. Granted it sounds like he ordered a chicken parm but that wasn't the case. This sandwich was right on point and the chicken was breaded to perfection. Everything that we ordered wasn't too expensive which is a plus in my book. Glad, they take credit cards. :::Bathroom Alert::: The bathroom smelled nice. I'm glad it was cleaned and stocked with a lot of paper towels. It's a little snug in there in the bathroom so I hope you're not claustrophobic. It's also unisex so make sure you lock the door when you go. I walked in on a man doing his business. I have to say that's not the type of sausage I signed up to see that day. The men behind the counter were extremely nice. I like that we get to pay after the meal. Some places they make you pay right after you order. Also the tables were cleaned right after someone left which made me feel good. This is probably my favorite pizza in my neighborhood so far. I have tried about 4 or 5 non-chain restaurants in the area and this is some pretty good New York-style pizza. It's nothing fancy but it checks all the boxes. With a cute, tucked away location on the street corner, you can walk in for a quick slice or order a whole pie for takeout. I would recommend their garlic knots and grandma pie. But be warned- it can be heavy on the carbs so don't overeat like I did or you will feel bloated for the rest of the night. X_X read more

I ordered 4 pizzas for my students' end of semester celebration and I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call asking for the exact time I needed my pizzas. Not only were the pizzas delivered on time, but they were kind enough to include paper plates and napkins. Teens love pizza, so there were no complaints at all. Ordered some plain slices and a chicken cutlet sandwich to go. The slices were pretty decent but the sandwich was not. When I took a bit of the sandwich it was very mushy but also hard to bite into which was really strange. I spat it out and examined the chicken in the sandwich. That's when I realized that the chicken was raw. I didn't know how long this raw chicken had been sitting out - I threw the sandwich away. While I don't mind a rare steak, I don't really care for rare chicken. Hopefully this was just a one off fluke but I'll be wary about their sandwiches in the future. read more

Definitely one of the top pizza joints in Sunnyside. One of the few places that does a REAL authentic New York slice. The pizza dough tastes like actual home-made and not that frozen cardboard stuff seen in a lot of places here. Its a perfect mixture of doughy/airy on the inside but crispy in all the right places, so it holds up even after you pick it up by the crust. Cheese and sauce were pretty standard tasting, an even distribution on top, but definitely much more cheese than sauce if you're picky about those things. I also got penne ala vodka for someone else and he said it was good & he was satisfied with his order. I had one of those days..."let's treat myself and get a pizza ...Friday night, take it easy...and so disappointed with my experience....I placed a phone order, I was nice, I tipped really well ...opened the box and was like...wow! seriously!...my whole 12" cheese pizza with pineapple and onions was so dry...almost completely burned.....It was literally a joke! I also ordered a gluten free pizza from them and it was so overpriced....I really don't know why, because gluten free flower is not that more expensive than the regular flower. Ordered delivery- baked ziti, garlic knots and a white slice. Marabella's is my go-to spot for baked ziti. Best ziti in Sunnyside, IMO. The ziti was on point as usual, but the white slice was waaaaaay overdone and old. Should never have been served to a customer. The knots were also a bit overdone. Lastly, the total was $14.75 but he said the minimum is 15 so he had to charge me the extra $.25. I think it's tacky to charge that to a regular customer, especially when I'm going to tip the driver. This experience l me feeling disappointed but at least the ziti was good and delivery was pretty quick. Update December 2019- I ordered a veggie pie with pepperoni from here and was very disappointed. Very light with all toppings including sauce and cheese. Food was bland. We also ordered a cheese calzone and it was really good. Apparently they do not include sauce with the calzones and so we had to call back (which I hate doing) and they came back. Marabella is a great spot for a slice or a quick pie. They deliver and are a staple in Sunnyside. I've ordered delivery a few times and never been disappointed. I also pop in maybe once every two weeks for lunch as I work from home and live nearby. While the pizza is good. The wings are OK but the best thing Marabella has going for them is their staff. The guys are friendly and helpful. They seem to appreciate their customers which is always nice to see. Pizza in New York - what can you say? I definitely have my favorites, like Fat Sal's in Hell's Kitchen and Cassino in Long Island City. Marabella's pizza is good, pretty much your run-of-the-mill NY pizza. It's tasty and they're constantly making pies as it seems to be the only pizzeria at this end of Greenpoint Ave. The place is pretty busy as it's known as a good pizzaria, and I agree. They also offer a selection of Italian pastas and sandwiches to boot, and at the price, there's certainly nothing to complain about. When you walk into Marabella Pizza, it looks and smells the way a New York pizzeria should. On my visit, I ordered one slice of regular Neopolitan pie and a slice (square) of their grandma's pie. The regular slice passed most of the tests that make ANY real New York style pie better than pizza anyplace else. However, I found the sauce to be a little too sweet and the crust didn't have quite the right "chew"; it broke off too easily. Also, when folded, the bottom of the crust cracked instead of just folding. As for the grandma's slice (plum tomato sauce on top of the cheese, not under it), it too had sweeter than usual sauce, a cracker-like crust, and not much cheese. Marabella has been around for years, but it's obvious that the original owners took the recipes with them. While this would be a great pizzeria in Milwaukee or Miami, it's average at best for New York City. read more
