We had high hopes as we heard so many good things about this place, and were finally able to try them when we had to be in that area in Queens one night. The place was nicely decorated, but tables are a bit too close together. Service was spotty but I think it's because they're understaffed. The servers were trying their best but we had to flag them down many times for different things. The food was mostly fairly good, although I'd say the pasta dishes were a bit bland and could be more flavorful (not necessarily salty). It's very homey, like something I could whip up at home, as I try to be health conscious when I cook. But that's not what I expect when I go out to eat, I expect bolder flavors.
I chose this place to have my bday lunch because they offered the cheese bowl pasta performance. Haha. Have always wanted to see it and try it. Getting here by google maps was easy taking the train. This was located in Astoria, NY. If driving, you can find parking but I would not drive in NY. This was a nice quaint spot for locals. Very beautiful inside with lots of green plants and big windows to see through. I saw there is outdoor seating if it's possibly crowded inside. I can tell it would be more busy with locals in the evening. It's a nice spot to have a date or have a group dinner. We made reservations for our family of 6 but it was not crowded on a Friday late lunch. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. Everyone chose a different dish to try out. I had a Peach Moscow Mule cocktail to start. It was good and strong. Choose: Casio e Pepe (****) - spaghetti with pecorino cheese and black pepper. The cheese bowl soaked in pure cheese and probably a little pasta water. They gave a lot and my daughter and I both got this. We should have shared. Margherita pizza (***) needed more cheese. Haha Calamarata pasta (****) - ring pasta with small bites of salmon. Would have been good if it had bigger pcs of salmon. Gnocchi (***) - gnoochi with cherry tomatoes and raw shrimp and cheese. I just didn't like the raw shrimp but that was me. Ragu (***) - fettuccine with fillet mignon. The meat was more than the pasta and needed cheese. They had other dishes I wanted to try. I love pasta and cheese! They also gave us a round of shots but not sure what it was but it was delish. All in all, the service was good, location and restaurant were nice, prices were decent for an Italian restaurant, and some of the dishes I would get again. I would recommend it here. [94R,2025]
One of my fav Italian spots in all of Queens. Cutting straight to the chase here. The must get here is the Caico e Pepe. It comes table-side in a cheese wheel and it is everything! I heated up the leftovers this morning for breakfast and it was just as good as last night. Thursday night and the place was well attended. The host/server allowed me to be seated before my friend arrived and gave me my choice of where to sit. I found a spot by the window and it was the perfect spot to catch up with my friend when she arrived. The service was just perfect! The place itself is so cute. Dim lit and perfect for a date night. Their pizzas look sooo yummy and that will be for next time. I already am planning our next visit. I want to bring my sisters. They would eat this up.
Living in the neighborhood for over three years, this restaurant appeared crowded every time I walked by it. I finally decided to give it a try on a Monday, and I was not disappointed. I've been to Italy before and I've gotten a taste of how their pasta & pizza are. I'm not a huge food expert so it's hard for me to say what's "authentic" but the food here tasted similar to what I had when I was in Italy. Pizza tasted completely different than your typical pizza store because all the ingredients here just tasted more "fresh". I kept it simple with the Margherita pie & I'd definitely get again. It wasn't heavy & perfect size to share as an appetizer. Ragu: Rich, hearty, and full of flavor. The fettuccine was perfectly al dente, and the filet mignon ragout had a deep, slow-cooked taste with tender meat and just the right balance of tomato and sauce. A comforting classic done right. Pomodoro: Simple, and fresh. The sauce was light but vibrant, with sweet, ripe tomatoes and a hint of garlic and basil. Perfectly paired with al dente pasta for a clean, classic taste. Overall, if you want a taste of Italy in Astoria, I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try!
Great authentic Italian spot in Astoria, NY. Spoke with Gianluca and he was very hospitable as our server. We ordered the Pizza Sampler and one of their specials - my Italian wife approved of all the dishes we ordered. The seating and setting inside is nice for a date night out. I'd definitely come back here to try their other dishes
Solid Italian spot. If I lived closer this might have ended up being my go-to, but I have to say that Vite is still a cut above this place. With that out of the way, Sotto La Luna does have good food. The ambiance here really feels like you're stepping into the kitchen of an Italian restaurant (in a good way). The kitchen is out in the open, so you can see your food being prepared if you're sitting close enough. We had just come from Sala's happy hour next door so we were good on drinks. We kicked things off with the arancini which were good but really needed a kick or some type of acidity - I wasn't a fan of the white sauce they served it with. The margarita pizza's crust was good, but the cheese and sauce were a bit watery in the middle. We tried their vegan pasta which was also good, but tasted like something you could easily make at home. I'd come back and try other things here to give it another shot though.
I came here for dinner with my husband and sister unfortunately on a 95 degree day. The restaurant had no air conditioning. If we would have known that we would have went someplace else and dined here on a different day. We started out with the arancini which was AMAZING! The rice inside was so creamy! We also had the insalata cici for an appetizer. It sounded good, but it was too dry to eat. It needed way more dressing than it had. We all had homemade pasta dishes fettuccine with filet mignon, granchio, and cacio e Pepe. The were all very good, but the cacio e Pepe was by far the BEST! It was one of the best cacio e Pepe pasta dishes I ever had! We didn't stay for dessert because it was way too hot! I recommend Sotto La Luna in Astoria!
Had a good time with the family. Food was good but got cold fast... possibly bc we were sitting near the door. Arancini was... interesting but the sauce was banging. Service was great. Went on 1/1 - they were open! I'm so happy we finally made it here because I've passed by so many times and it's been on my list of places to try. We ordered the aranchini rice balls for a starter, then the tonnarelli cacio e Pepe and the soleluna as entrees. The rice balls were absolutely amazing, highly recommend! Perfect temperature too, as I've had rice balls that burnt the roof of my mouth. Excellent texture and flavor in each bite with the mayonnaise sauce. The tonnarelli pasta dish comes with a cheese wheel on a cart with a man that spins the pasta around and serves you the pasta fresh drenched in the cheese. Very intriguing experience but the pasta itself was too rich and heavy for my taste. Very thick and would not be good alone without other dishes to break up the taste. The soleluna is a half calzone and pizza combination, highly recommend ordering this! Excellent flavor with a balance of the red pizza and the white cheese of the calzone. Overall definitely coming back! Love the lights and live plants hanging on the pergola-like ceiling. The service was very prompt as well. Great experience!

Cute place. Service was slow. And servers were pretty much just tossing your plate on the table. The frutti misto appetizer was great. Loved the mixture of calamari, shrimp, zucchini & artichokes. Cacio e Pepe was good. Loved that it was prepped in the Parmesan wheel.
Ate here today during my late birthday for dinner to try this place out for the first time. We had definitely shared and ate different kinds of pasta and shared the olive pizza that it tasted really good and delicious. The service there was also attentive, friendly and super fast. We couldn't agree more about it. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time! :)
Great Italian restaurant in Astoria. The star of the seating is right at the kitchen bar where you are blessed w a real show watching the magic happen w the food being prepared. The chefs put on a true performance decorating , manipulating and plating all the great food. No changes to menu take note so no substitutions. Great selections of beer and wine. I had the menebra lager and my girl the peroni on tap. Pizzas are amazing and a must try. We had the veggie and it'll fill you up and has broccoli rabe on it which is a change of pace. Also had the bow tie pasta special w a nice light cheese similar to goat cheese. As appetizer had a baked cheese caponata. Service was a little pushy bc they want to turn tables so kept coming back every minute saying are you ready are you ready and wanted all food ordered at same time.

I went to Sotta La Luna because I've been to its sister restaurant, Sotto Le Stelle, which had a pretty similar menu. Sotto definitely has a different vibe. When I walked in and saw the open kitchen around it there was a sign that said it was voted the best Italian restaurant for 2024 and 2025. Although it didnt say where exactly. Was it for Queens or New York in general? I wasn't sure how official it was. I suggest making reservations if you would like dinner around 6-8pm. Our table was right by the open kitchen, and it was actually really cool watching the chefs work while we ate. Foodwise, we started with the arancini balls which were delicious. For the main, I ordered the fettuccine al ragu filetto and I'm glad that I did because it was a bit different from the usual pasta dishes I've had before. However the pizza cacio e salasiccia was a bit salty for my taste. For dessert we ordered the panna cotta of the day which was a berry one. That was really good. Definitely recommend ordering that one as it was light, creamy and the berries made it flavorful. read more
Great food and wine, I love their pizza, but can be pricey for the portion size for some items. The gluten-free items I've tried here are REALLY delicious, were also liked by friends who are not gluten-free. Part of reason for giving less than 5 stars because at my most recent visit the staff asked if we want bread, and since one in our party is gluten-free we can have gluten-free foccaccia. We were not informed that there is an extra charge until we saw the $14.50 charge for foccaccia on the bill. I do not remember if they offer complimentary bread service or if that would be for an additional charge as well. As for the regular review: It's a large space, nice ambiance and not too loud. Other than not informing us of the charge for gluten-free foccaccia, the staff was helpful and friendly the rest of the night. Tonight we (party of 2) came here for NYC Restaurant Week prix fixe dinner. Very good deal for the amount and quality of food. One of us is vegetarian the other is gluten-sensitive so we wish the restaurant week menu items were labeled accordingly. (The regular menu does label GF items.) There are plenty of vegetarian options on the menus but we had to ask to be sure since these are not labeled. Our restaurant week dinner order items were all delicious: Appetizers: Tortino Di Zucca butternut squash (Veg) Tartare de Tonno yellowfin tuna tartare (recommended by our server) Mains: Pizza Primavera (plus $4 upcharge for gluten-free crust, which we were informed of upfront) Ravioli Ricotta e Spinaci (veg) Desserts: Tiramisu Panna Cotta I want to come back to try the gluten-free chocolate dessert Torta Caprese. I would have ordered this for restaurant week if it was labeled GF on the restaurant week menu, didn't see until after our main meal that it was labeled GF on the dessert menu, and by then it was too late to switch desserts. Service is very slow; took over 15 minutes to even place a drink order. The food was very salty and pizza had way too much semolina on the bottom. Got the carbonara (very watery, not creamy, and extra salty) and the mortadella pizza (dough was too hard) read more
Such a cute italian restaurant in Astoria, they have the most aesthetic design inside with lots of greens. Best sangria and sourdough bread! (I might have eaten too many bread and guilty as changed, they go so good with the pasta sauce). Their pasta is also super flavorful and well presented. We ordered Fettucine porcini e tartufo and bucatini all amatriciana with antipasti of carpaccio di filetto, all 3 were amazing. Remember you can request for shredded cheese, definitely made a huge difference for me. They recently started having this lunch special deal Mon-Fri 12-4pm 20% off, so that's definitely a big plus. What to say? This place is amazing. I have been here several times but am only finally getting around to leaving a review. We had reservations on Mother's Day. (Pro-tip - Always reserve on any holiday and weekend as they get packed). We were shown to our table a few minutes after our reserved time. They definitely keep tables moving without ever feeling rushed and I appreciate that. I love the look and style of the restaurant, well. The floor plan and open kitchen make for a nice and airy dining experience. I already knew what I'd be ordering as I fell in LOVE with it the last time I dined in. My husband and daughter had never been so they played it safe with a Pizza/Pizza Sandwich. We started with the arancini and burrata for apps. The burrata was so creamy and paired nicely with delicious basil oil and tomatoes. Mouth watering! The arancini, which I had previously was also very good. It comes with mushroom, which I do NOT like but these were THAT good. Didn't taste the mushroom at all, thankfully! I had the Pappardelle Al Ragout D'Agnello. The Pappardelle was cooked to perfection allowing for the greatest bite. I don't eat lamb often (maybe 2-3 times a year?) and this ragout is such a delicious, hearty feel good stew like sauce. Highly recommend. A well rounded bite every single time! Sotto La Luna does Pizza perfectly so you really can't go wrong with simple Margherita style. My daughter ate this one and opted against having cheese. Basil, Sauce, Olive oil and a tasty crust was all she needed. Large portion she wasn't able to even get down half (which made for yummy leftovers). My husband had the Salsiccia Pizza Sandwich (Broccoli rabe, Italian sausages, smoked mozzarella). I didn't try it because I don't eat pork but he loved it and again the portion was so large he only ate half and it reheated very well the next day. We drank wonderful Red Sangria throughout our dining experience and saved just enough room for dessert! While we were quite stuffed from our meals, my daughter had a cannoli, which she loved. Portioned just right considering she didn't get through half of her entree and my husband and I shared the Strawberry Nutella Panna Cotta, which happened to be the dessert special. Sized just right to satisfy our sweet tooth. Always a great dine-in experience, along with fabulous drinks and comforting food for the soul. Highly recommend. Just reserve that table! read more

The owners of this place are doing a great job of offering relatively authentic Italian cuisine, in an environment that manages to be both fun and intimate. Hard working wait staff is primarily Italian which can be rare, we found they added to the authenticity of the experience. The fritto misto was exactly as light and non-oily as we were hoping for, pizza was delicious, the freshness and quality of the ingredients was evident. We didn't have a pasta dish but the plates passing by looked delicious and the looks on the faces of the diners was enough for us to keep it in mind for a future visit. Reservations are a good idea on weekend nights. 4 stars + Recommend!! read more

Stopped in for a quick bite after work, and upon walking in, the smell of deliciousness took over immediately. Had the buffalo mozzarella pizza and it was absolutely delicious - nice sauce, great cheese to sauce ratio, and spectacular crust. Dip the crust in olive oil for the ultimate treat and you can't do much better than that! read more
Love this newer Italian spot in Astoria! I really came here for the pizza I saw on their IG (the crust filled with ricotta and soppressata, topped with mozzarella, Gorgonzola, zucchini & pine nuts), BUT that pizza was only on the specials menu and not a regularly served menu item. I got the next best thing from the menu since I'm obsessed with ricotta, and got the soleluna pizza, which is half calzone and half regular, which was sooooo good. We didn't finished it and ate maybe half? It was still delicious the next day as leftovers. The pasta was good also, but I think the pizzas might outshine the pastas. I'd definitely come back. I walked in with a couple of my friends on a Friday and we were able to be seated right away. The waiter was very attentive and made sure we always had water or anything that we needed. I liked the burrata appetizer that we ordered, but in terms of the pasta, they were all pretty salty and the portions were small. After hearing raving reviews from my friends about this place, I was a bit let down. I would go back to give it another try since we only ordered some of the menu. read more
This particular week, we went from our favorite SoleLuna restaurant, then Sotto Le Stelle and then here. The same team manages all 3, so we know the food is good. We thought about visiting it sooner but it's hard to get a parking space around here, so we landed on Sunday, the no-parking rule day! The place is huge, vertically and horizontally. The high ceiling is noticeable. It lets me breathe better. It's important to find a place where you can breathe in NYC. There is outside seating too. The Chef is the first Soleluna Chef. We had fritto misto, tarfuto pizza, and oysters and tried Chef's favorite rice balls. Don't worry, this is only a warm-up snack because we'll be back, maybe another Sunday, the day we can find a parking spot and will try more dishes on the menu. Perfect service and delicious meals! Everything was delicious and I love that the pastas are homemade! The only critique I have about the pizza is that I wish the crust was crispier, but the flavoring and variety of topping choices were great. The servers were extremely friendly and professional, and the ambiance would've been good for either a date or a large group of friends. I would come back to try more of their dishes! read more
I have it 5 stars because of the service ambiance and personality of the place. For drinks I ordered the margaritas. And my fiancé had the Peroni beer. I gotta say, I'm not a beer drinker but give me a nice tasting COLD beer and I'm in. We started off with the sotto La Luna pizza. Nice concept/idea but not to my liking. It's a half moon and half sun. The moon side (calzone) had ricotta and ham inside. The sun side had sausage, mushroom in a red sauce. The crust was a little flimsy. The calzone was a little burnt but my first bite was a glob of ricotta. Then we ordered the the thick ribbon pasta with the lamb ragu. WOW. The sauce... you can taste the seasoning but it's not overwhelming. You can taste the wine but just enough and the pieces of shredded lamb was perfection. We sat at the bar so we watched as the chefs prepared the dishes. I was in awe. The servers were very attentive. Definitely felt like a family. The restaurant has that home environment. Relaxed feel. Met some friends here and had an enjoyable evening. We were seated about five minutes after our reservation time which was good. Place was loud, so hard to hear each other and two of our seats were a bench without a back. The food was very good and the presentation was nicely done. Portions were in the smaller side. Staff was helpful although English wasn't a strong point. People kept coming for take out all during our time there. Looked like they were having pizza. We had entrees. This is a go-to in the neighborhood for Italian food. I have gotten different pastas and they are always good. Sitting next to the chef station is a cool experience near the back if you can. The tiramisu is delicious. We have had the same server a few times and he is always good. It is a larger space, I have seen a few birthday dinners here. read more

Cacio E Pepe ($25.50) Salsiccia pizza calzone ($20.50) Half and Half Pizza ($30+) Pappardelle Al Ragout D'agnello ($26.50) - Lamb Pasta Gnocchi Al Lime Con Gamberi Rossi E Burrata ($27.50) This is the perfect date night spot in Astoria. I love the open kitchen concept they have, and it is so interesting to see the chefs make the pasta and plate them. I honestly thought everything we ordered that night was perfect and our server was so nice and she recommended us all her favorites as well. Not usually a fan of gnocchi but I really love the raw red shrimp and Burrata that it came with. The Cacio e Pepe is served with a cheese wheel right in front of you, which is a great experience. It's also surprisingly a lot more delicious than other cheese wheel pastas I've tried. This place is more pricey than other spots in Astoria but for the quality, ambience and taste, I'll say it is worth it. read more
