The pizza is pretty good here! I've only come in for a slice a few times so I can't speak on any other dishes they serve yet. What I like about this place is that you can quickly order a slice to go or you can eat it in the restaurant. There's a whole section in the back filled with tables - it's a cute little atmosphere. They also offer a full menu and have always been busy every time we've come in (a good sign!). Plus, they have ample vegetarian friendly options which I always appreciate! I've been coming to this place since 2010. I do love to dine there because there's nothing better than fresh pasta. But I find that I've been ordering from them more and more. Their prices are stuck in the early 2000s which is great if you're on a budget. They never seem to get the food wrong which is something that's awesome. It is always very tasty and makes me crave it more. The plates you should try are their garlic clam spaghetti. Yes, it's a lot of garlic but worth it. Their pizza has yet to make me sick which is a plus in my book. Their basic pepperoni pizza is actually pretty good. I recommend you dine in before you start to order out. Their pizza prices are good too, which is something I love the most. They also do a great pizza burger here with steak fries but I haven't had that since 2010. THE EXPERIENCE I first came here back in November 21019. It could have been a more satisfactory experience. As I look back, the pizza was not fresh; even the pies were past their shelf life, and at lunchtime too! As I was then reviewing the Pizzeria first time, I had to find something to eat there. So I settled on a Penne Al Vodka. The pasta was the only thing that looked presentable. As I stepped back into the dining area, I saw an empty dining space with plastic/polyurethane tablecloths; and tables and chairs being held together by tape, even scotch tape in a few instances. Well, that was enough, I thought. They are not worth a return. Then last year, the pizzeria suffered a significant fire which kept them closed for a long time. What was going to happen...would they even survive? Would they be better if they ever reopened? They somehow did survive, reopening a month or so back. Lots of hype popped up about their reopening, with many sentimental old-timers remarking how wonderful they had been. Honestly, were they worth a second look? Rarely do I review a restaurant a second time. So December 3rd, I returned. This time I brought my partner for an independent review. We had breakfast at a popular diner that just reopened the day we reviewed them. The breakfast was a success; the employees were warm and glad to see their old customers return. Afterward, we went shopping to build a good appetite for a late lunch. My partner was incredibly anxious to try them out. We arrived there just before it got dark. After finding a parking spot by PS 166, we walked over. The new awning and entrance mentioning the grand opening could have been more eye-catching. After stepping inside, I looked around. The pizzeria layout mainly stayed the same. Except for the Sicilian slices, the displays looked dreary -too many similar-looking pies that did not seem appealing (see photos). We settled on three Sicilian slices, a couple of Pepsis, and four zeppoles. The slices were reheated, put in the oven, and quickly removed. We then headed back to the dining area, which had been spruced up except for those plastic tablecloths that remained in place. The dining room had been restored, colored in a blue decor with religious and old-time wall art. Okay, that didn't look too bad. There were a couple of families dining. When we took our food back, they were getting table service. My partner picked up on this immediately. I had yet to pay attention to this aspect of customer service. We were not given utensils, napkins, or condiments to put on the pies. My partner headed back to get some extra sugar for her zeppoles. She returned and told me that the lady upfront had been too busy to help and was more interested in counting money than providing service. My partner's feedback was that the lady gave her a nasty look "as if I had four heads" and then scowled at her. The other employees had been too busy to assist.."everything was a rush, rush, rush," She finally returned with the missing utensils, napkins and condiments. We ate and then left. We reassembled across the street and sat down to review and exchange feedback recording our observations. The FEEDBACK Over coffee, we discussed our observations. The choices of pizza were minimal. Only the Scillian slices were decent. My partner liked her slice. I was not so fond of mine and found it lacking in taste and texture! Perhaps this place has improved, and we might give them +1 for ambiance, even though I hated the plastic tablecloth. We found that the restaurant was clean. However, the attitude of one or two employees was not warm and welcoming. I missed this as I was sitting at the table while my partner returned to get napkins and utensils. My partner reported that the woman up at the counter had been quite rude to her. Also, weren't we supposed to have table service? I again had not thought about it at the time, but my partner had pointed this out to me as she noticed others being served. Either way, this was not a big issue for either of us. Always one to seek out a great deal, I needed to check it out firsthand! Nestled into the basement unit of an unsuspecting corner lot, be on the lookout for the sign so you don't miss it! The interior is very casual, with a few large tables for bigger groups. Staff was very friendly and responsive. Our portions were pretty large, especially considering the low low price! Not that I'm an expert, but I would say the pasta was cooked a bit past the "Al dente" level. If I had one complaint, there was a strange number of flies buzzing around the dining room. Now I understand that it's a restaurant with food that attracts pests, but it was almost comical at times how many flies were circling my plate and flying past my head! All in all, Napoli Pizza and Pasta offers filling meals that are good-not-great for one of the best price points I've seen in the city! Wasn't very good despite the reviews. I ordered from here cause it had 4 stars - it is far from 4 stars. The pizza was like cardboard, not to mention it was boxed horribly. Totally bland. Completely flavorless. The pizzetta is a total waste of money - don't get it. The broccoli had so much oil and butter when it arrived it was literally sopping and inedible. The chicken soup was okay.
