BEST TIME EVER! Me and my 3 boys went on a night trip and couldn't have had more fun anywhere. The captains wife checked us in at the booth and couldn't have been a nicer person. We boarded the ship and they put out drinks that we brought on ice. The mates were very thorough about explaining everything and were very helpful. Once we anchored and started fishing the two mates, DJ and Dez were more than amazing. The captain was also on deck helping everyone with their catch. The first two stops didn't produce much as the tide was still going out but the third stop at slack tide was ON! Everyone on the boat caught fish. The crew was on the move. DJ and Dez did the best job helping everyone and re-rigging lines and keeping everyone fishing. We will definitely do this again and highly recommend this as a must do adventure while in the keys!! read more

Great Job by the entire team! Starting from the Lady that answered my phone call by providing me excellent customer service. Call me during the day to give me an update if the trip was on or not. Captain is very professional and was out on the deck to ensure we were catching fish and if not we moved to another spot. And lastly, the guys on deck were amazing! Very attentive to your needs, making sure we had bait, rods were working, we were having fun, and at the end cleaning all the fish we caught. Clean boat, clean atmosphere, excellent all around. I've been on a few charters and this one was great. My son and I did the night trip which was from 630 - midnight and only costed us $100. This was his first trip and he loved it. It also helped that we caught a bunch of fish! Next time we are in Marathon we will definitely take this trip again! read more

Great spot! We were able to catch around 15 fish which were prepared for us by the time we left. The only downside is I wish they disclaimed what fish we would likely be getting before going out. The website showed grouper, but we were told they were not in season while out. Overall, we had an amazing fish dinner which deserves 5 stars alone. Yum! read more

Can't say enough nice things about this outfit. I have fishing in my blood, but am admittedly a novice when it comes to baiting my hook, casting, reeling, using that thingy with the clear string on it....you get the idea. The mates and captain of the Lady Marathon exercise a great deal of patience with newbies and (over-)excited tourists, offering easy-to-follow directions and plenty of help when needed. My friends and I were fortunate to go out on a beautiful Saturday afternoon with a half-empty boat and plenty of active mackeral. Between 5 of us, we caught 44 fish, including lots of grunts, 2 King Mackeral and about a dozen yellowtail. The eatin' was good. The mates--we had John and Jake--are very knowledgeable about fishing and the aquatic life you will encounter in the Keys. Just listen to what they say, keep a positive attitude and you are certain to have a blast. read more

This was a wonderful excursion and way to spend the latter half of our keys weekend-and fishing isn't even something I typically enjoy at all. BF and his parents are from up north in Minnesota and much more akin to a fishing expedition, so I knew this would be right up their alley. I've spent my life on boats so I knew I would fit in fine. We got there a few minutes before 1, checked in and rented fishing rods ($5 in addition to the trip fee). They will also sell towels for a buck apiece-they're not nickel and diming-this is a good idea. There are icky fish guts and slimy things all over the place, you'll need them, and you won't want to bring your own. Blech. The boat was about 60 feet or so and had about 20 people on board in addition to the 5 or so crew. I was afraid that since this was considered a "party boat" cruise, it would be a situation where you were kind of left on your own to not catch anything. This couldn't be farther from the truth. The crew was absolutely awesome at making the rounds, teaching you first before the boat stopped on how to use the rods properly (thumbs on spools!) We cruised between 5-6 sections of reef, allowing all of us to have a good amount of time on each to catch stuff. Also the captain was good at determining when it was time to move on from each one when nothing was biting. The crew is really where this boat gets such high ratings though-I don't mind casting and reeling, but I don't want icky fish guts on my hands and even though I caught only one puny fish, I don't want to take him off the hook! The crew is awesome at handling your fish and guts if you're like me. They also unravel your line if you get tangled, but they will make fun of you. The crew will filet your fish for you once the boat docks-this is a service they "charge" for, again-but they do 3 fish for a buck. Seriously? This is chump change, and everyone on the boat ended up tipping the guys way more, since they did it with such finesse and speed, and almost nobody can filet like that even if given 10x the time. Also, these are young guys with families working in the hard sun-but they have a good time and were a blast. They were worth the extra few bucks to not have pin bones in our fish. They gave us the recommendation for a restaurant in town of where to have it cooked up as well, and 3 other groups off the boat ended up there as well. BF's parents are still raving about this expedition-and that's worth it's weight in gold. Would do it again in a heartbeat. read more

These guys are a class act! The boat is super clean and the crew is awesome. We went this past weekend and even though the Seas were up we still all caught fish. We caught a lot of yellow tails (most were keepers) some groupers (most had to me thrown back), some grunts and and some mangrove. The rigged all our poles gave us some tips and hints and made both days really enjoyable. Even through it did not rain we did end up getting some pretty rough winds and the seas were up...4 to 6 both days (6/25/12) If you are in Marathon and you love to fish make sure you get on the Marathon Lady! Btw we went back yesterday and had just as much fun as we did a couple of weeks ago. If you take your own poles it is 45 dollars and if you don't want to rig your lines with your own tackle it is an additional dollar. If you need a pole the the cost is 50 dollars. If you would like them to clean your fish it costs you 1 dollar for 3 fish, well we caught about 50 fish and needed up keeping 30 fish so it only cost us 10 dollars to get our fish cleaned so it was a bargin. They also offer a night trip from 6:30 to Midnight. read more

Where do I begin?? The crew was awesome! If I could give ten stars I would! It was my son and I first fishing trip and they certainly made it a memorable one. My eager nine year old had a great time and Joshua one of the crew members had no problems teaching him fishing tips; my son ended up catching 8 fish! Meanwhile, I didn't seem to have the fisher and luck like my son but I did mange to catch one towards the tail end of the trip. The crew was entertaining and educational. They are definitely kid friendly which is a plus. This is ideal for serious fisherman and the family. They do have snacks on board and drinks. You can bring your own drinks and food as well. I brought a cooler and snacks and my sons iPad just in case he was bored!! He wasn't! It's a four hour charter and I paid $98.00. This included the rod rentals and bait. It is better to be at the rear of the boat where there is a high guarantee of catching a variety of fish (mackerel, yellowtail, snapper, grunt). Also they can filet the fish for you at extra charge. My son and I caught a total of nine fish (my son 8 myself 1) lol. I paid three bucks. The charter boat is a good size and the minimum they need to set sail is 12 people. This is great for groups!! The weather was perfect couldn't have asked for more. Will definitely do again! Thanks guys!!! read more

Great location to the reef. Clean boat and very good mates. We had good fishing and always had a nice catch. They run morning and night in the summer because it's so hot in the day. They run morning and 1:00pm trips in the winter. Get the back of the boat if you can because they chum off the back and flatline for yellowtail (less tangles and your in the chum). read more

What a disappointment! If you are not a local, do not expect to get much attention or assistance from the crew or a decent fishing location on this boat. The boat was very crowded with not much room to fish. Lines will get tangled and the regulars will criticize you the entire trip. We spent most of the evening detangling our lines. We've been on numerous fishing party boats and this by far has been the worst experience. We had high hopes after reading the reviews. There was blatant favoritism-the crew focused on a select group of loud and obnoxious passengers. They catered to them. The captain even had the audacity to say that fishing location on a boat doesn't matter. One positive was the weather--it was a calm and breezy evening. If you want a truly enjoyable fishing party boat you should look into the Miss Islamorada at Bud-n-Mary's. The boat is maxed out at 30 passengers and fishing locations are rotated throughout the trip. The mates chummed around the entire boat-not just the back. The atmosphere was more friendly in the Miss Islamorada. Everyone left with at least a bucket full of fish. read more

It was my first time ever going deep sea fishing, and Marathon Lady definitely left me a good first impression for the experience. Hopping onto the boat costs me $45 (a discount from $50), but they supplied everything including the fishing rod and bait. There were two crew members going around who definitely helped all attendants with anything they needed- including measuring fish to see if they met regulations, assisting with baiting rods, fixing tangled fishing line, etc. The customer service was superb, and they were definitely there to assist you. We went to about four different fishing spots when there seemed to be a lack of active fish, so they definitely try their best to make sure you get the most out of your time on the boat. I would highly recommend them if you are looking for a boat service to take you deep sea fishing. read more

We did the party boat fishing charter and absolutely loved it. Caught tons of fish and had an awesome time. The crew was helpful, personable, and very knowledgeable. Even the captain came down and helped. He made sure everyone was catching fish. If he moved to a spot that had no bites within 5 minutes, he was moving the boat to another location. On the way back, they refreshments to buy and offered to clean your fish for a nominal fee. I think it was like $1 per three fish. Awesome trip, definitely recommend it and would go again! read more

I don't have anything to compare our experience to, but my husband and I were very impressed with our fishing trip on the Marathon Lady! The boat was clean and the staff was very patient with us! They provided our poles and bait and were willing to clean our fish for a small fee. They helped untangle our lines and remove stubborn fish from the hooks. I think we stopped at 4 different locations and everyone on our side of the boat caught at least 1 fish, most caught 3 or 4. It was a great way to spend a half day on the Keys. WE LOVE MARATHON LADY!!!! Went once before on a family vacation and again the other day on honeymoon. Both times were night fishing... That's the time to go! The fish are very active and you will catch SO many; also, it's cool and lovely at night and you can focus on catchin' them fishes instead of sweating. The captain is a lovely, humorous, deeply knowledgeable individual. When he isn't driving the boat he comes down to check on everyone and help out. He is very respectful to his mates as well and doesn't seem to lord over them. Mates John and Josh are my two favorite people in the universe! They are funny, smart, skillful, and they work SO HARD and are so friendly to make the trip fun for everyone. They don't get impatient if you tangle your line (oops) or catch the bottom and get stuck (oops oops) and will just magically fix it somehow... Like seriously, they will give one tug here, a twist there and BAM, like nothing ever happened. They'll also make suggestions to you regarding bait, flatline or sinking line depending on what the fish are doing, and make you laugh the whole time. The crew call all the ladies 'gal', which is adorable. "There ya go, gal!" "You need any help, gal?" "Yes gal?" When you get back to dock, they will fillet your fish, 3 fish for $1. No, no typo, ONE DOLLAR. So even if you catch a ton it is nothing to get them filleted. John and Josh fillet those fish SO FAST it would make an Iron Chef cry with jealousy. And you get to watch the tarpon eat the carcasses they fling over the side :D tl;dr: Marathon Lady is the best fishing charter in the Keys and I will fight the individual that says otherwise ;) read more

Wow! This was the highlight of our honeymoon. This is the best value in the Keys..period. For only $50 you get to go out on a big cool boat, with a truly honest to goodness friendly crew, and they take you to a bunch of fishin spots, and you catch tons of fish...they are patient, and helpful, and I just can't say enough about the experience..it was the absolute best time we had on our honeymoon. Captain Craig is hilarious and the crew is great. They clean em and unhook em for you, and they even make you feel good about the little ones... we smiled all day!! Awesome. read more

I went out with this boat and crew today. Sadly the ocean was not cooperating but regardless the captain made the effort to get us to different spots and eventually the boat hauled in a decent catch. The crew on this boat is really worthy of a review. These guys are patient and helpful, they are constantly running around the boat tending to each pole and every problem. No matter your skill level consider the ML for a fishing trip. To anyone considering buying a license and gear to shore fish when they come down to the keys; don't bother. You will spend 100 dollars or more on everything and struggle to fish from the shore. Just go on the ML, for 50 bucks they take care of everything including the license. read more

The caption and all but one deck hand was super nice. Only reason I don't have 5 stars. The older deck hand was very snappy, yet still very attentive. When we asked him to lay out our catch during cleaning for a picture. (And we waited to be last to clean so we would not slow others down) He poured them out and refused to lay them out for us,while making a snide comment. The other deck hand and caption were super friendly. Even the captions wife that checked us in and took payment was wonderful. We didn't catch much on the reef,but they did move spot to spot until we found the fish biting. All the fish off the reef are also kinda small; so if your looking for a good fight with a fish this may not be up your ally. This was my first time reef fishing and I had a great time.
