This place was just....odd. We dropped in here for a super quick bite before going to the Cirque du Soleil show at the Florida Mall. We had exactly 35 minutes. We were the ONLY TWO PEOPLE in the restaurant. Should be plenty of time if we know what we want as soon as we sit, right? Wrong. It took most of those 35 minutes just to get the food, which was all appetizers, most of which were cold (as they were supposed to be). How long does it take to take something out of the fridge? And for the warm items, we could hear the microwave in back being used. I know microwaves can be a reality in restaurants, but come on, turn the sound off! We literally had to cram food in our mouths while signing our check and racing to the show. Also, the wine situation was sad. The items we wanted we kept getting informed they were out of. The owner/server was very nice, and you can tell this is a family establishment, but it was a little *too* family, if you know what I mean. I felt like I had dropped in my neighbors and was waiting for them to whip something up for surprise guests. All that being said, the food was good once it arrived, but I'm not sure we will be returning. read more

It is apparent that this is their restaurant and they care about it deeply. Had the special of the day (lamb shank) which could be the best lamb I've ever had. Also try their Lebanese beer "Almaza". Violet and Edwin, We're amazing hosts. You will not find food this authentic anywhere. We stopped in on a whim and it was very rewarding. People say the lord moves in mysterious ways, I agree everything lined up and we ended up at this wonderful place. It felt like we were sitting at home and enjoying a beautiful family meal. Violet makes everything from scratch and even made chicken strips for the grandson, yes from scratch. Do not skip any courses, the appetizers were heavenly, Fried cheese, Colombian Empanadas, homemade Lebanese Toum! Fresh Pita, Lamb, Venezuelan Beef BBQ with Yucca I could go on. Yelp 100 Review Challenge 2017 45/100 I decided on this restaurant on the recommendation of The Yelp Reviews. It was my friend's birthday and we wanted to try someplace new and she wanted mediterranean food. When we walked in the restaurant was completely empty.... um ok? This was a little scary? Why wasn't it full with people drooling over the food like in the reviews. I almost thought about turning back. But we were invested. So we sat down and the lady who served us was also the owner and the cook! She was very sweet and spoke to us for a bit. We talked politics for a bit. She said she was proud to be an American citizen now and was looking forward to voting. She brought out warm pita bread and hummus. We ordered and everything was delicious. I ordered a simple grilled chicken salad and my friend ordered a chicken falafel. The restaurant is very spacious and would probably be great for large groups. The only weird thing was the bathroom. There were two toilets and only one door. No stall between..... awkward. Since there was no one in the restaurant I wasn't really worried but I locked the one door anyway. Lol read more

My husband and I drove to Orlando with our two small dogs and arrived well before our check in. Our hotel room was not available yet so we called this restaurant and they advised it was fine to come seat outdoors with the dogs. We got there shortly after it opened and it was totally empty. However, given such great reviews and the fact that they were so welcoming with the dogs we went for it. Let me clear, the food was fine -- but the prices are insane and the portions are beyond small. $25.99 for one dish -- I was expecting a good sizeable meal. No, actually, not at all. In fact it was two tiny chicken skewers, tiny little bits of beef and rice (which in the menu says rice or fries, and no one ever asked us what we wanted.. for some reason they didn't ask us our preference....) and MAYBE a spoonful of "complimentary" tabbouleh as a thank you for the incredibly LONG amount of time we waited for our food to come out. No lie it was at least 30 mins before we got our entrees. I am sorry. I live in Miami. I have had much better meals for less at nicer restaurants. I am not happy writing this two star review. The lady who took care of us was incredibly sweet and warm. She was very kind and didn't mind that one of our dogs was barking at her for the first 5 minutes.. She was so nice but the food/price situation was ridiculous. I've been dining out for 30+ years and can honestly say that I have never had two such totally different experiences at a restaurant. Unfortunately, the result was that I am not a fan of Maraya, but I am a fan of the owners. First pass was the need for a quick lunch. Rushed in needing to get a to go dish in less than 10 minutes. Owners, what a cute couple, brought me the menu, made a suggestion and had it all done in a few minutes. It was a Falafel wrap, with a wonderful garlic sauce and sides of hummus and Tabouleh. Loved it. The husband even brought me a small Turkish Coffee - which is better than a 5 hour energy. Inspired, I brough my wife back for a Friday evening meal. Arrived at 7:30pm and were were the only people in the restaurant. Actually that is not correct. Our company was a few individuals setting up and performing sound check for an event the next night. So we were treated to alternating levels of salsa music that was at times blaring and at other times there was no music at all. Dinner was not...pleasant, mostly. On the good side hummus, tabouleh, caesar salad and Red Snapper were all very nice. However, the Kefta meat was grey, chewey and did not taste fresh. The Mediterranean Fish also tasted like it had been frozen and had freezer burn. When I asked what kind of fish it was, I was told 'Boston Bass'. What the heck is that? Looked and tasted like Mackerel. The Mackerel was so bad that we ordered the Snapper, but had to fully pay for both. The best part was that the two cheese and rose honey desert. Sublime. Wish I could go back just for that. The couple is as friendly as could be. However, coming here is a dice toss as to the atmosphere, and quality of food. Wow, this place is wonderful! As another reviewer mentioned, when you drive up you will think they are closed, but they aren't. I was the only customer for the entire 1.5 hours I was there. First, the food is absolutely delicious. I started with falafel and babaghanoush, both were some of the best I've ever had. For main course I had some chicken kabab and kefta, both of which were outstanding. For dessert I ordered a Turkish coffee, and the owner brought along some baklava for me to try, on the house. Finally, the service could not possibly be any better. As I mentioned, I was the only person there, but I was taken care of like I was their own son. I had trouble deciding on an appetizer so she offered to bring me a little of each (falafel/babaghanoush). I'm not a local, but if I ever come back to Orlando I will definitely be eating here. Update: I went back for lunch couple days later and had the falafel sandwich and stuff grape leaves. Once again, the food was amazing, and this time I got a hug when I returned. read more

Every single thing we ordered was outstanding. We had the hummus and falafel appetizers, the greek salad, the chicken picata, and baklava. The falafel was some of the best I've had, both well spiced and well cooked to be all crunchy on the outside. That amount of food was enough for three. I recommend sharing here. It seems that someone here was not able to read their menu, since they were surprised that when the prices of the items they ordered were added up, that came out to the bill they got! Go figure. We did not find it overpriced, especially considering the great cooking. Three of us got out of there for less than $60. We frequent several very good middle eastern restaurants in Southern California, and were surprised to find one this good in Orlando, of all places. read more

I was very much looking forward to eating at this establishment especially after reading all of the great reviews (I should've clicked more reviews and kept reading). My father and I happened to come in around noon on Tuesday of this week and were more than surprised to see such a cutely decorated restaurant that had only one other patron in it. I became a bit skeptical and glanced over the menu displayed in the front and thought the prices seemed a bit high -- but an older gentleman had come out (perhaps the owner?) and stated everything is flavorful and made fresh. So I looked at my dad and we both agreed to give it a shot. The older gentleman told us to sit where every we would like and he would come to us. He handed us menus and then went back to the other patron in the restaurant to finish chatting. I was a little surprised he didn't offer to grab us any drinks before leaving. He came back as the other patron was leaving and asked if we were familiar with this type of cuisine, to which we replied yes. We were in a little bit of a time crunch so we placed an order for 3 kefta (angus beef) kebabs (1 was to go for my husband). He suggested because it takes a little while to make -- insisting that it is fresh -- that we get some hummus. So we did. 10 minutes later he comes out with hummus and fresh pita bread -- this was fine, nothing stood out or anything. 25 minutes later and our food comes out. I looked at the plate and back at my dad's face -- it looked like we both had 90 second rice heated up in the microwave with 4 meat sticks and a blob of white sauce. Now mind you, this dish costs $17.99, so I expected what the older gentleman had said -- that it would be fresh and flavorful. It lacked any flavor at all, I was so disappointed, especially since my father was just visiting in the area. For the price we paid I felt like it was a scam. Now the reason I distinctly said 90 second rice is because there was no other employees in the restaurant and I had heard the microwave being used more than once. At least add some spices or herbs to the rice to give it some type of flavor. It was very evident this was 90 second rice. I don't know if the kebabs are made the day of or prior to, but regardless there was not any flavor. Now as for all the prior reviews..... I don't quite understand. I did read a couple reviews where some people had thought maybe some fake reviews had been submitted as the score was quite high. There's a really nice feeling and décor inside. What appeared to be the owners were happily and courteously taking care of us. We start with the appetizer combo platter. Honestly, after having the hummus at Oopa! a couple nights before, this hummus paled in comparison. But looked great. I was not happy with the hardness of the pita that came with. I ordered the lamb medallions which I have to say were quite nice cuts of meat. Three came on the plate. However, after ordering them medium rare (as the owner/server said that they always come) they were more on the medium side. They were small enough that you'd really have to get them off the heat more quickly because of their size and if I came back I'd now correct it to RARE. The brewed tea there was very good. Again, what seemed to be the owners very nice and gracious. Their menu was small and my lamb was very pricey at about $26. I'd recommend it but they could stand to improve on a few things here and there. read more

Many have mentioned them as Orlando's best kept secret, and they definitely are! I've passed by the intersection of OBT and Sand Lake multiple times and never would I have thought this quaint restaurant would be there. It's been a while since I visited and never completed this review. We came at an awkward time for *linner* so the owner and chef were really attentive and took the time to serve and explain the dishes to us. We got plenty of appetizers instead and the chef kept bringing things out just for us to try. We got tabouleh, babaganoush, hummus, stuffed grape leaves, stuffed cabbage leaves, and an item we had to call ahead to make for us called Kibbeh Nayyeh which was the main reason we came there. It's a seasoned raw minced beef dish that's served with onions/cucumbers and is used to grab with pita. We were down to get dirty and everything was eaten with our hands (and the lovely owner showed us how it was really done). Definitely a nice hidden gem in the middle of all the touristy places in Orlando near the Florida Mall. Owners were down to earth and loved my meal completely more because she welcomed us in and made me feel like I was eating a home cooked meal with family. Maraya's was awesome. The only thing which we found a bit strange was that the restaurant was completely deserted when we arrived. That was kind of disconcerting. I had seen the great reviews, so I decided to go with it. I'm glad I did. The waitress (whom I assume was also the owner) was really nice. She was running to and fro to get us everything we needed. She was very nice and made some very pleasant conversation with us. I feel sorry for her that the place was so empty. We pretty much had falafel platters and hummus. The food was really good. Loved the falafel. It seemed to be very freshly made and had really good flavor. The hummus was also good. I'm trying to remember now, but I think the prices were on the high side. This is one of the places you are looking for if you are vegan or vegetarian. They have several options on the menu but please ask them what else they have. I was offered additional items once the nice lady noticed that I had only ordered vegetarian items. I am guessing the other items are in rotation and that's why they aren't on the menu. The building is easy to access and is very nice inside and out. They have Hookahs available but I didn't see anyone using one. They have a dedicated area that is away from the dining area. The lady that seams to do everything with such care is so so sweet. She reminds me of a grandma. On to the food! I ordered Almaza beer to start of it was very smooth and enjoyable. For my meal I had falafel, humus with pitas and tabouleh all made fresh so be patient and enjoy the beer. The presentation was beautiful and made you look forward to eating. The falafel was fluffy inside and crisp outside and was perfect dipped in the sauce, the humus or wrapped in pita. Of course I tried it all 3 ways. Humus was some of the best I ever had. Update: He has sent me reply go and eat dollar menu at McDonald's. For sure this restaurant is not $$, it is at least $$$. The old family are serving there, we were 13th people and we had to pay 20 percent for tip because we were more than 5 while he asked us to pass all the forks and glasses and menus through the table. My wife and I ordered two tea cups and one Baghlava and we paid 17 dollars! I didn't like the taste of the tea and I thought it was not fresh. My wife asked for refill and he said OK but we found out from his reaction that he was not pleased and we really felt ashamed in front of our friends due to his behaviour. My friends ordered Keftha but it had not any parsley or Homos in it while it was written in the menu. when we asked him he said it is in the meat itself( I'm not sure if he is right or not so I checked the pictures of Keftha in Yelp and I saw it had more parsely there so I asked him. He said they asked for more extra parsley! ). Felafel was only four pieces and it tastes like green lentile with only one bread. Totally we went there because of the high rate, but the size of their meals are very small and their price are high while it does not have a good quality. read more

This was one of the better restaurant experiences I've had this year. We wandered in after a long day's travel from Chicago shortly before their posted closing time to learn that they had begun to close early. Despite this, the woman working inside came outside and invited us in to eat, insisting that we sit at a table while we waited for our food, which she let us know we were welcome to eat inside, although we opted to take it to go. We enjoyed a pleasant conversation with her and she even went as far as to share her homemade cookies with us, free of charge. Talk about hospitality!! We are vegan and were able to get a giant feast here. The hummus and falafel were some of the best I've ever had, and the pita is Lebanese style, which they bake in house. We also ordered the moussaka, which was on special for the day. Can't forget the incredible garlic sauce!! I didn't have a clue this place existed until I read about it on Yelp. Last time I noticed, this was a boarded-up Friendly's restaurant. First I have to say, wow, I want that same floor in my house! Maraya is beautiful from the ground up. According to Orlando Weekly, $2 million was spent to refurbish the place, and it shows. As with other reviewers, I was the only diner there, at least when I arrived. Through the course of the meal, three other parties came in. Echoing the other reviewers again, Violette was just charming. I told her I was undecided between two starters, the Falafel and the Kibbeh, so she graciously offered me a little of both, along with some complimentary hummus and pita! Both the falafel, a favorite of Bill O'Reilly's I hear :), and the kibbeh ("crispy wheat shells stuffed with ground beef, pine nuts, and finely-cut onions") were wonderful. Knowing I couldn't eat it all, I still ordered the rack of lamb, served with tabouleh. The lamb was tender and seasoned perfectly, and the tabouleh was probably as good as I have ever had. There were some incongruities, but much to my liking; especially the beautiful Italian opera playing, and a couple of French Impressionist prints on the walls, as well as a hearty "Bon Appetit" from the owner. Locals - get your behinds into this restaurant! The brother and sister team cook fantastic food - authentic, fresh and tasty. Ask for the Jilab - a rosewater tea with pine nuts: it is not on the menu, but the owners drink this traditional drink and it is delicious. Also highly recommended are the Chicken Kabobs - the garlic sauce that comes with it ROCKS! The Greek Salad was tangy and crisp, the hummus smooth and creamy. And don't forget dessert - we were treated to Kenafa - a two cheese warm delight covered in rose honey. Come on! Our waitress says it is traditional to eat Kenafa for breakfast. I'd eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is lots of room for a party - or for you other out of town folks to bring your convention group in for a celebratory meal. Went in for dinner at 6:30 PM... having read the reviews, I knew that we'd have the place to ourselves. Asked Violette if it would be possible to order a sampler platter for our appetizer, and what was brought out were a small bowl of each, hummus, babaganoush and tabbouleh with paper thin pita served on the side. Also ordered was a full order of falafel. The hummus and babaganoush were outstanding, although the falafel were too crunchy for my taste. For entrees, we decided to split 2 between 4 adults. One order of chicken kebab and one order of rack of lamb. Each entree was served with the meat and a scoop of cinnamon scented rice, no vegetable. The chicken kebab was two skewers, 4 pieces of meat on each stick, of tender, flavorful chicken for $16.75. The "rack of lamb", at $29.95, was nothing but 5, very small, lamb medallions. I really enjoyed the rice, as it had a light cinnamon taste. Although the food is tasty, it's incredibly overpriced. We were charged full price for our sampler of appetizers, which was incredibly disappointing; as it was over 20 bucks for 3 small bowls. Our entire bill for 4 was $107., and only included 2 entrees! Our wallets went home empty, and so did our tummies. Overall a VERY disappointing visit and I will not go back to be duped again. read more

Not only is the food home made, it's honestly some of the best food I have ever eaten in my entire life. The woman who works there makes everything fresh, and it couldn't be any better! Truly amazing food, atmosphere, and service. Ultra fresh ingredients made from quality organic/free range proteins. An absolutely fantastic 5 star meal! Was hoping for a memorable dining experience to share with friends while in Orlando on business, and Maraya at Sabrina's over delivered! As mentioned in another review, the restaurant could be easy to miss. Look for it just off Orange Blossom Trail a few blocks from the Florida Mall Hotel. Our wonderful server really 'owned' our experience and basically served us a guided tour of the menu. We went family style on everything and had the opportunity to sample a lot of the menu. Hummus, Babaghanoush, Tabouleh, Calamari, Kibbeh, Keftah, Rack of Lamb, Beef Kabob, Mediterranean Chicken ...everything was perfect. The only disappointment is that I won't be able to try the pasta and seafood items on the menu until next time I'm in Orlando. As we were pulling out of the Florida Mall, I mentioned to my wife that we needed to eat at less chains and frequent new and different restaurants. A second after I said that, my wife saw Maraya's so we decided to give them a try. They seem proud of their Yelp success and have Yelp and Trip Advisor stickers on their front door. We walked in to the rhythm of what I'm assuming was Mediterranean style music playing and noticed that the place was very beautifully decorated with wall hangings and lovely tile floors. There was no one up front so we were unsure if we were supposed to seat ourselves but after walking a few more steps, a nice older gentleman guided us to our table. We decided on Signature Combo which was a sampling of hummus, tabouleh salad, and falafel. I did enjoy the hummus, although the pita type bread to dip in it was a bit chewy. I was not a fan of the falafel or tabouleah. I've never had this type of food before so maybe I'd learn to like it but wasn't impressed. My wife, on the other hand, really liked both so I'm sure it was just me. My wife got the chicken kabab and I got the Kefta kabab. Both kababs came with a nice serving of deliciously seasoned rice. The kababs were all meat and had no vegetables on the plate, which was fine with me. If you've never had kefta, I can only explain it as being like a breakfast sausage. It wasn't my thing either. I chicken, however, was absolutely delicious. It exploded with flavor and the texture was perfect. I'm glad we decided to come here as it was a different experience for me. I don't know that the value was good enough to bring me back ($15.99, $16.99, and $17.99 respectively for the three dishes). I remember watching this old Friendly's get transformed into an amazing building and wondering what was going to occupy the space. I finally had a chance to go here for lunch the other day and was blown away. The owners are quite possibly the most wonderful people I have met in a long time. They take the extra time to talk to you and even brought out samples of their other offerings, like the pasta, which were amazing! I had to try the most expensive dish (lamb) and I truly enjoyed every bite of it. Even the rice that came with it was superb because it had some spices and pine nuts mixed in that gave it a wow factor. Of course, the fat kid in me had to try the desserts. Fresh homemade goodness was calling my name. The owner said they make everything, down to the cream in the desserts, completely fresh that day. After reading the great reviews, we had to try this place out. It was a thursday night around 8pm and we were the only table in the restaurant. At first we thought this was an ominous sign, but after reading about similar experiences, we knew it was going to be worth it. The waitress was kind, attentive and a gracious host. We got the appetizer sampler (which she created by giving us a little of each item), consisting of the hummus, baba ganoush, tabbouleh, and falafel, each were really good. The tabbouleh was the best we've ever hard, so crisp and refreshing. Our entree was the chicken kabobs and they were killer, had a great char taste to them and dipping them in the garlic sauce was divine. Highly recommend this place, please bring friends and family so this gem stays around for a long time to come. Ate here several months ago. I should have given a review then. Something is definitely weird about their high Yelp reviews. I think there's some fake reviews to give it a high score. Two of us are there for lunch. We were the only people there the entire time. Our bill was $60 for just a normal lunch. My coworker asked for some Tabouli for his sandwich without asking how much. So... we completely wanted to like this place... In fact, I really was excited to go and I wanted to "love" the place after my King of Falafel experience. The girlfriend and I, plus my folks met here for dinner and we were so excited to eat here but ultimately we feel like we were robbed a little. Violet took care of us and we agree with everyone that she has to be the nicest person and the food, well, while really tasty was a little underwhelming and incredibly over priced for you what you get. Firstly, I should mention that this place is huge and I wonder if it ever gets filled, because we met our party there at 6.30pm and didn't leave until after 8pm (we like to sit and dine, and chat) and there were literally only two other parties in the place the entire time. Second, my mom had read a bunch of reviews and one of them said to have the chef put together a "sampler" of the appetizers... She mentioned that to Violet and we were told that she could put together a sampler, or taste of each, meaning a very small plate just so we could taste each. We got hummus, baba ganoush, tabouli, falafel. All very tasty and served with pita bread. I think the hummus was the best of the group with the baba ganoush being my least favorite, and the falafel left a little to be desired for when compare to other falafel I've had. Next we moved on to two entrees for the four of us to share. We ordered the chicken kabobs per some of the reviews and we ordered the Rack of Lamb. The chicken was two kabobs with four pieces on each stick, served with a yogurt dipping sauce and rice... all of which had a great flavor profile, but we were incredibly disappointed that there were no veggies served at all. The Rack of Lamb seemed like a little bit of a scam if I'm being honest... it sells for 29.99 and this was no "rack", it was 5 small medallions of lamb, that was cooked a bit longer than the temperature we requested. It too was served with rice but that's it. The lamb was really tasty and I longed for more, and if I wasn't sharing it it might have been enough, but for 29.99 it was definitely not worth the price of admission. So that's it... the flavor was all there, but there's no oomph when it comes to this place. It's basic at best and incredibly over priced. Not to mention that the "sampler" of appetizers was no sampler at all like we had discussed, we were charged the full price for all of the appetizers vs being served a sampler. Incredibly disappointing. The place is dead, the ambiance could be nice if it was bustling with people and the music wasn't playing favorites from the 80's. So my girlfriend and family say, we won't be back, it's just not worth what you get for the money and we really felt like we were "robbed". There's far better in town and maybe if our bill wasn't over 100 dollars for what we had eaten we might have had a very different opinion, but geez, I can only imagine what our bill would have been if we had ordered two more entrees like a normal American family would do.
