Visiting Orlando and trying to find those hidden gems that we can recommend to others -- and here we go! We found this Moroccan restaurant a couple of years ago and have always stopped by whenever we're in the area. We decided to make it our first dinner this time around. I can't say much about the vibe or service since we ordered takeout, but the owner (or the guy at the register) was very nice and friendly. What we ordered: Tagine Kefta -- Meatballs, eggs, and bread. A little oily and juicy, but with the bread provided, it was the best combination. A+ Tagine Lamb -- Lamb shank with rice. Very delicious and flavorful. A+ Mixed Gyro & Chicken Platter -- A very generous portion! It took us two days to finish it, and it was absolutely delicious. A+ Dessert - Merguez -- A very big slice of cake, not too sweet, with just the right amount of sweetness. With tea, it's the perfect combination! The only downside was that it had been frozen beforehand, so because of that, I'll give it an A instead of an A+. Overall: Definitely an A+! A great Moroccan spot that we'll happily come back to and recommend to others. read more

We came here for a Friday work lunch and it was so great! We all tried something different - yero bowl and wrap, and chicken and lamb tagine. Everything was so delicious. Mine was the lamb tagine it was exactly what I was hoping for. The meat fell right off the bone and was so flavorful and it came with a very nice portion of rice and delicious Moroccan bread. We all had mint tea as well and it was delicious. The restaurant was not huge, but it had a a few tables outside in addition to the indoor seating. It was a counter service restaurant, but it seems like sometimes there were options for table service? I was a little bit confused about that, but I was ok with the counter service anyway. The gentleman who was working was very friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant and encourage everybody to go experience a cuisine that is a little bit less common in the Orlando area! read more

Another hole in the wall restaurant! Tucked away in the corner of a plaza is Merguez Restaurant, one of few Moroccan restaurants in Orlando. My friend from Fes recommended me to this place. At her recommendation I got the lamb Tagine and fries. I don't eat lamb too often but this is one of the best I've had! It was so tender it fell right off the bone. I've been to Merguez Restaurant several times with my family and also once with friends, and we've always enjoyed the food. The lamb shanks are especially delicious--definitely my favorite dish. The portions are generous, and the flavors are authentic. Service was good, orders are usually served quickly. The atmosphere is warm, but I think the restaurant could benefit from a more modern and updated interior. Overall, it's a great place for tasty food, and I'll definitely be coming back. read more

I was surprised walking in, I had assumed this to be a full-service restaurant where it is in fact counter service. I was also a bit dismayed at the brevity of the menu: no appetizers, and a relatively small selection of entrees. I originally thought of going with a Yero (cognate of gyro)-based meal; but when I saw the tagine options, I knew I had to try one. The sausage tagine has pieces of sausage in a tomato-based sauce, with two eggs cooked on top, garnished with olives and herbs, and served with a seven-inch loaf of warm bread for soaking up the sauce. Very good. Dessert was a chocolate mouse cake with toffee bits inside: even better. Ambiance is minimal. read more

My favorite meal from my whole trip to Orlando & Mint tea is the low key star pairing to the delicious food Food: - Kefta Tagine - Merguez Tagine - Lamb Tagine (w/rice) - Seafood Bastilla - Yero Platter (mixed chicken and gyro) - Side : 5 piece falafel - Side: Hummus Merguez Tagine. As a Tagine, it's a tomato (sauce) base with egg. The merguez is sausage. Unsurprisingly it had more oil than the Kefta and the sauce wasnt as thick. Came with Moroccan bread which we loved on its own and to stop up the Tagine sauce. Th sausage was as lean as sausage can be; not too much fat in the sausage that I could tell. Kefta Tagine. Between the tagines, we liked this one slightly better (since it was less oil). Mint tea - it's not often I rave about the tea, but the mint was the perfect pairing to the food! A must-get to help with any oils. Also the employee served it by doing a "long pour" which added to the authenticity of how this delicious cuisine should be eaten. Service We arrived around 6:30 for dinner on a weeknight. There was one employee at the counter and because we dined in, he also was the "server", of sorts. With a party of 6, there was an automatic 15% service charge (eg gratuity), which was fine since he also poured the tea. It wasnt clear if we were supposed to bus our own tables. We bussed most of it. In this case, I thought it was fair given the party size and because he was attentive and he did the tea pour. All in all, it seemed like we were able to experience the Moroccan culture as though someone invited us to their home. Ambiance Others weren't fans of the brown/tan decor though my opinion is that it's part of the "old world" charm. It's like going to someone's house and the decor is dated but they're so excited to be hospitable and share their cooking. It had that vibe. My friends and I decided to try some moroccan food while we were in Orlando, and were not disappointed! We got the merguez tagine and the seafood bastilla. The merguez was a mixture of beef and lamb, and was nice and flavorful. It was similar to shakshuka if you've had that before! I liked the seafood bastilla more, since I haven't had anything like it. I selected this restaurant using Yelp when I was staying nearby. I like to try dishes from other countries. The restaurant is housed in a shopping center along Idrive that has seen better days. The restaurant is not fancy. Guests order at a counter. Eatin customers receive a stanchion to put on the their table. Orders are then brought to the table. The tables are plain. Customers get their eating implements and condiments at the end of the counter. Eating implements are disposable. I ordered a house specialty, Merguez Tagine. It consisted of Merguez Sausage, Tomato-Garlic Sauce, two Eggs, served with Moroccan Bread. I enjoyed the dish; it was different that anything I had before. I ate it all. I recommend this restaurant for those who either like or are willing to try Moroccan dishes. read more

After a relaxing appointment at the Moroccan hammam next door, its only right that we kept the Moroccan experience by going to Merguez restaurant and getting a Merguez sandwich. Holy $@!# did I have a great meal here! As a native New Yorker I'm always amazed when weird little strip malls have legit restaurants, it's one of those inter-American cultural differences. And the location of Merguez is even more bizarre due to it being located in somebody's idea of a 'beautiful' Tuscan-themed strip mall with numerous Roman columns and statues planted all over as if for a minute you'd forget you were standing in an Orlando parking lot. But location aside, Merguez is easily one of the best meals I've had to Orlando. Homemade food, friendly family-owned joint, with an eye-popping menu and entirely reasonable prices. We ordered the chicken bastilla and the seafood bastilla and omg. Let me set the scene: the chicken bastilla is a flakey philo dough stuffed with shredded chicken and egg and almond stuffing, that's cooked and then drizzled with honey and almonds. I coulda died and gone to heaven, Yelp. Amazing amazing meal! And my partner similarly loved his seafood version, which is decidedly more savory, but we both did back flips for the chicken one. Take out was in order for tonight. Since I do like middle eastern and Mediterranean cuisines, I chose this spot as it's only a mile or two away from our resort. Besides, pizza, Chinese and burgers can only take one so far. Anyhoo: I made a great choice! Queen Bee didn't want anything too heavy, so she opted for the "bowl" with chicken. I meantime opted for the combo platter which is basically gyro meat, that same chicken shawarma piled atop rice pilaf and a "Greek salad" on the side. With her bowl, she added a few of the free add-ons: feta, olives, corn and harissa. Pickles are also available as one more add on. So basically it became a chicken shawarma platter but with the salad piled on top of the rice rather than apart from it. At just less than $10 it was a genuine bargain! She couldn't finish it! My meal added gyro meat alongside the aforementioned chicken shawarma. Now since this is a Moroccan restaurant I expected it to taste a bit different than the more ubiquitous Greek version, and indeed it did. Fantastic!!! The salad came with a lovely lemon vinaigrette and there was also a small cup of white sauce for the meats. They sat atop the same rice featured in the bowl...also fantastic! The restaurant features charming but modest decor and a huge flat screen in the corner broadcasting soccer. Apparently the owner is a soccer aficionado because I'm not the only reviewer who mentioned it. He was a polite and soft spoken gentleman who also answered the phone and guided me with the menu just a wee bit. They also have a small counter display with Moroccan sweets if you like exotic desserts. I'd definitely return here anytime I come back to the area. At just a bit over $24, we got a helluva filling fresh and delicious meal. I'm so happy I stumbled across this little hidden gem. I wish the owner much success in keeping this place going for many years to come! Definitely a small local family business that deserves all the support that this area can muster! Wish I could give 4.5 stars, but Yelp forces solid numbers. This restaurant is the type where you order at the counter and they bring it out to the table. Went on a Sunday at 6p and there was only one other table with diners and they were outside. TVs were playing a soccer game and a travel advertising show with the beauty of Morocco. The food is delicious. Tried the falafel bowl, which was a tremendous amount of food, mostly salad, for the price. Definitely order that again. And the second dish was a combo platter with gyro and chicken shawarma on a bed of rice paired with a salad. Price was fair for what you received. Would order this one again since I'm a huge fan of gyro meat. The shawarma was a nice diversion too. Rice perfectly cooked and salad yummy. The building and surrounding decorations are worth a visit, just in themselves. Whoever decorated this facility went over the top and it reminded me of Caesars Palace in Vegas. Took a half star off for the limited drinks and the high price. They want $2.50 for a 16.9 ounce soda bottle that obviously has no refills. They don't have a drink dispenser. And the selection is somewhat limited. Water is in a bottle at $1.50. The gentleman who took the order was very pleasant. Didn't take long for food to be prepared. Place was clean. The parking lot and sidewalk up was a mess, but can't fault tenants for the slobs we have in this world who litter everywhere. read more

I was so hopeful to go to this place. The reviews were good. The pictures were amazing and so we headed over. Boy were we disappointed!! When we walked in the place was small but nicely decorated, nothing over the top but fine. The problem.... there was this awful smell! I can't quite describe it but almost like dirty water. The floors were sticky and so that made me think that maybe they mopped the floor with dirty water. We were expecting a sit down place but it was order and then sit. Normally that would not bother me just not what I was expecting and not what the photos really showed. There was a large group In front of us and nobody directed us to grab a menu or anything. The menus were in the front where you pay so it wasn't like we could look at menu while we waited. After several minutes of waiting and taking in the ambiance and smell, we walked out. This is a very good Moroccan restaurant. We have visited over the years despite the arduous drive from Tampa. For this last visit, we ordered a side of fries, lamb tagine, merguez tagine and each meal came with a loaf of delicious bread! Oh the bread, it's marvelous! The lamb fell off the one and was presented in a delightful broth spiced with Moroccan spices. The fries were also a 5/5, no question -- crunchy and fresh, great flavor and served hot. The merguez tagine was presented with a delicious savory sauce and was top notch. We always bring dessert home and it's amazing. The cookies and other desserts are authentic and delicious. On a previous visit I've enjoyed the kofte, chicken, and gyro. All are delicious. Even the espresso was excellent, as is the mint tea, when it is available (it wasn't this visit). Make sure that when you order you review everything. If you have a food allergy be sure to ask about every item including the salad and dressing. They do marinate some meats in egg for example. One of my favorite spots for halal or moroccan food. One of my old friends put me on and we went to dinner with her family so that told me everything we needed to know. My normal order there is the chicken briwat or chicken bastilla -- it's shredded chicken, egg and is topped with honey and almond. It's the perfect balance of sweet and savory and my go-to every time. Their zalouk dip is incredible and this is coming from someone who doesn't like eggplant. Other items I rotate through often: any item cooked in a tagine. All of their tagine places are flavorful and juicy. This is 100% a family owned business which is always great to support. This restaurant is a true taste of Morocco! Family run and the pride shows - the owner greeted us as we arrived and again when we were leaving. Nabil, our server was friendly, gracious and explained everything we needed to make our choices. We had the beet salad and two tangines- one lamb, and the other lemon chicken. - absolutely delicious! We wrapped things up with a Moroccan sampler of various cakes and cookies, along with the mint tea - we loved everything! They even have a Moroccan bazaar selling beautiful hand made pottery, pillows, and other goodies. We left with a hand painted bowl and pot for plants, so now we have a physical memory of the great experience. Definitely try it - you won't be disappointed! read more

My husband asked me to pick him up a chicken shwarma pita wrap. When you walk into the restaurant it is like I was transported back to Morocco. I ordered my hubbie what he asked for and I ordered myself the chicken shwarma bowl. Please note this is a traditional made to order restaurant. There is a wait to receive your order so if you are in a rush this is not the place for you. My dish was ok I would've like a little more sauce as some parts were dry. My husband did not like his at all. He took two bites and stopped saying the meat was too chewy for his texture. For me I liked the meat and flavors.
