I was a little skeptical on trying Marble & Rye on opening night but I have nothing but good things to say....it was fantastic! We started off with the pickled onion rings, pinzimoni, and octopus. All of our apps were tasty, especially the onion rings and octopus. Can't go wrong on the onion rings for $5! 3 of us had burgers and 1 had the whole trout. Freshly ground in house and homemade buns- all cooked to perfection! It was probably my favorite burger in awhile. The trout had lemons and herbs inside...also cooked perfectly and delicious! This place was a little out of my comfort zone but the food was great. We sat by the window which was a bit drafty so if you have an option sit toward the back of the restaurant. The service was great and our waiter really knew the menu and made sure our glasses were full. Their small plates are definitely not small. I had the spaghetti squash and it was enough for 3 people. Also tried my husbands picked onion rings which were delicious. I got the burger and it was huge very tender and tasty. I ate it off the bun without a fork because I was getting full. Most everything on the menu from meats to vegetables are from local farms in the area which is really neat. They have a large selection of alcoholic drinks makes it hard to narrow it down. There is street parking so if you go on a Friday or Saturday night leave early to find parking. I was impressed with everything from food to service and the price matched what you got as a customer. read more

Loved this place!! Made reservations easily on Open Table, and our table was ready as soon as we arrived on a busy Saturday night. When we sat down, I wasn't sure how I felt about the ambience. Our table was definitely not cozy being next to the front door in the middle of the room, and the noise level was very loud. However, the food was amazing. My husband and I always get octopus if it is available hoping to relive the fantastic octopus we had in Costa Rica. We are always disappointed...until tonight. It was the best cooked octopus I have had in Buffalo, and I have had it at some of the well known local seafood establishments to compare. Please always keep octopus on the menu, even if the preparation rotates! We also split a nightly special salad with poached egg, which hit the spot. I got the half chicken which was SO flavorful, although a bit salty, but I am a salt girl. My husband got the house burger, which he said is right up there with his other favorite local burger. So by the end of the meal, the table location and noise didn't bother me one bit! We can't wait to return. read more

Place was very good. Went with friends and had a nice dinner out. Went with their kettle chips and meatballs to start. Meatballs in a squash type of puree were great. Friends went with burgers and salads and I went with a flank with shishito peppers and tomatoes. Burgers and flank were solid, very tasty. Farm salad was not very good, but it could be an acquired taste. Drinks took awhile when we ordered our first round, but server was professional so it's all good. Nice place, fun atmosphere. Oh man, I really wanted to like this place - I'll go back again to give it a second chance because I hear their hamburgers are really good. I have been to Marble and Rye twice now and felt it was time to leave a review. First, Buffalo needed a lower key, classy, but NOT stuffy place to go grab a good drink or have a nice meal. This definitely fits the bill, yes it has some kinks to work out but the pieces are there and I think it will only get better. Wine selection is solid, and we tried the tequila drink and it was good. The only ding was the bartenders appear to be very busy, in an almost chaotic way. We thought it may have had something to do with all of the craft cocktails they have? Maybe they need someone dedicated to filling wine and beer orders so that it doesn't jam up the bar. I could see this being a major problem if the places picks up. We ordered a burger, the cheese platter, and then a pasta dish and all were good. Lastly, when we were there we kept getting a strong smell from the grill, almost like when you go to Subway and walk out with that smell on you. Kitchen could use some better ventihilation! OVERALL, this place is a solid 4 stars, again yes they have some things to work out, but what is important is that the core pieces are there and they can only get better. Went for special occasion. Was sadly seated at the smallest table available where my chair literally had one inch to move near loud bar area. Seems most the smaller tables are in that area as well. First of all, have to say this is a great restaurant and the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I didn't have dinner, we only did drinks and apps but let me say what we did try was great. All of the drinks are flawless and not only taste great but look amazing. We did bar snacks with their version of onion rings and calamari and all were divine! I have to say I was really excited to try this restaurant but once we got there the excitement started to die. The seating was very uncomfortable and there was no privacy, not saying that I expected complete privacy but it was very open and almost cold. The bar patrons were so close to us if I turned my head I was eye level with their backsides, not what I wanted when trying to enjoy my date. The food sounded great but was very underwhelming. I ordered flank steak med rare and it was not cooked evenly, not to mention when it arrived i couldn't see the steak. It had a huge topping of crispy onions covering the what would be star of the dish. The house made chips were cold, the drinks were different. I didn't order off their drink menu, which was maybe my mistake but how do experienced bartenders mess up and old fashioned. The balance of the drink was off and the bitters were not present. Excellent food and service. The only negative aspect of the night was that we had to wait a bit for our initial drink orders. We figured there was a communication issue because we had a reservation of 4 which was in fact only 3, so they probably thought we were an incomplete party. Whatever, was not a problem, and they comped a round of drinks because they recognized the problem. So, kudos on that. I've experienced much, much worse with no comp of anything. It was very generous. All the food was excellent. We started with the fried pickled onion rings which are really fantastic. Highly recommended. We got the special Charcuterie Plate with pork head cheese and summer sausage, pickled beets and honey mustard (from scratch). The meats kind of sound strange, but they were great. The head cheese was close to rillettes, which no one would turn down. The summer sausage was really excellent - naturally, made in house and not from that Christmas package you guiltily ate from drunk! My only complaint was that it was a little scant for the price. It also included toasted house-sourdough, but uh, that ain't charcuterie my homie. If I were head chef, I would have supplemented with something cheap, just so it looked a bit more generous. Our party had two burgers and one special of cavatelli with spring vegetables. Everyone was happy. I had the special M+R burger with fried leeks, rhubarb bbq sauce, cheddar, and dressed greens. It was excellent, but not because the fancy toppings. The sesame bun was probably done in house and was flawless - perhaps the best bun on which I've had a burger all time. And, the ground beef - googilie moogilie. They get the beef locally, I think, and ground it in house. This makes all the difference. Mass produced ground beef is disgusting. The texture of this burger - I got it med-rare - was like none other I have had. Perfectly cooked, not cold in the middle, great crust on the outside. But, most importantly, the superior quality of the ground beef had an almost indescribable mouth feel. Tender, but with some crunchy bits. Unctuous without being greasy. Great work. Highly highly recommend. The simple burgers I made from Moriarty's ground beef were better though! BTW, you can do this place on a pretty tight budget. Plenty of entrees for less than 20 and very inexpensive apps. They also serve Genesee beer, so good job you fracking hipsters. read more

Went on a busy Saturday night and had a disappointing experience. Octopus that was served had gone bad and had a very fishy odor. The waiter replaced the octopus with another menu item which was nice but offered nothing else. Fries that accompanied the burger were nearly raw in the middle. Wanted to like the place since they do have a good cocktail program but there are other places in Buffalo that do the same type of food better. read more

I have been here several times, since it's conveniently located near our apartment. Atmosphere and service are on point. The octopus w romanesco, beef tartare and whole fish entree are favorites of mine. Ingredients are not over prepared so you can really enjoy their natural textures and flavors. I recently tried the cheese plate for the first time, which was fantastic. Cocktails are very tasty too. Just make sure you make a reservation! read more

The best aspect of this restaurant is the decor--it's great. However, like too many restaurants in Buffalo, it can't decide whether it wants to be a bar or a restaurant. We had dinner there on Friday and it was IMPOSSIBLY noisy. The front room was foll of bros getting their buzz on, and the diners were clearly there for the ride. I would never return for dinner, but I would for lunch. My friend is a vegetarian and there was only one option for her. Needs to be more than that in 2016. read more

Small menu, so not for picky eaters. However, the small menu helps ensure that everything is fresh & delicious. They pay attention to the details which makes a huge impact. Drinks are also good and they have good happy hour if you can find a spot at the usually crowded bar. read more

This restaurant could not get any better. Unbelievable food and atmosphere. Every time my boyfriend and myself come here we leave happily full and amazed by the quality of our food. The service is amazing, we recommend Connor, he's super knowledgable and he's fun to have as a server. I get the same thing every time I come, the cheeseburger.. it is the best burger I have ever had. I got the M&R punch cocktail last time and it was the best drink I've had in a long time. I really wanted to try this place out and I was pretty disappointed by the overall experience. Our waiter was very nice but he told me that the pasta was homemade in house, and when my dish came the pasta was stuck together and gummy like it was undercooked or not prepared fresh. Either way, no thanks. The appetizers we ordered were underwhelming and the chips that were supposed to be made in house were not warm. The onion rings were a mess and kind of difficult to eat, the batter kept falling off. The chairs were incredibly uncomfortable and the seating in the dining room is right next to the bar, so everyone standing and being rowdy at the bar has their backsides at your eye level. There's also a weird curtain right when you walk in, it's heavy and bulky and I understand it's meant to mitigate the draft coming in from outside, but there has to be a better way. And then to top it off the prices were not worth the quality of the food, it felt incredibly expensive for pasta and chips. Overall, it was not the experience I was anticipating and I don't think I'll be back. read more

There's a hint of NYC energy in this smaller, intimate, candle Lit space. There's the usual sounds of Saturday night chit chat, bottles hitting the well, and dished being tossed into the kitchen to be washed. Its not over or under stimulating. It's your typical city restaurant scene in a city where there ISN'T a typical city restaurant scene. Buffalo restaurants always seem to have a gimmick. Something to lure you in. It takes A REAL restaurant to not only get people In the door but to keep them coming back. Marble & Rye has my attention and gets the respect of diners. I've found that people do not always like to think for themselves. They like a house specialty and server recommendation to convince them that they're enjoying their meal. Marble & Rye is for an experienced diner. Not in the sense that they have a Multi course, pre fixe menu, but that the food stands on its own. I had the most delicious drinks of my life here. First was one made with some peanut infused rye (I think), and tasted EXACTLY like a peanut butter jelly sandwich. Initially I was skeptical, since this sounds like a peculiar drink concept. However, once I had it it I was *obsessed* - it was seriously such a wonderful balance of flavors and I wholeheartedly enjoyed each and every sip. After I finished said heavenly drank, I wanted another one. The lovely bartender recommended I try another one of her cocktail masterpieces - one that was made with Thai tea and coconut milk, that would be the perfect pairing to the pb&j drink I had just finished. I took her advice and I was NOT disappointed. It was a most magical experience. Would definitely recommend this place, and the bartenders are also super sweet and friendly. Oh, and there was a super awesome singer singing while we were there, so the entertainment was also appreciated. We celebrated my wife's birthday and couldn't have picked a better place. Great atmosphere, and service was fast and friendly. I watched the owner helping bus tables and he even stopped by to take a picture of us and introduce himself. I thought this was a great reflection on the owners and the place. The food was amazing! I would have gone with five stars but the pasta fell a bit short on flavor. The wings, fish and octopus were excellent! Not sure what all the hype is about a lot of these new restaurants. I am begging for places to open up that are not classified as either a micro brewery, burger bar or warehouse tap house. I mean, come on, how many of the same places can their be it seems like the same people are the only ones opening new places. Then "there is a new one!!!" and then I am just enthusiastically disappointed. The menu's are short and simple. The drinks are usually awful. Seriously, what legit bar doesn't carry the staples? Limited menu should have been our first clue. Three of the choices changed daily and were not fully explained by waiter. The fish entree was the "whole" fish (my fault for not reading thoroughly) and included the head, tail and BONES! Waiter never offered to debone and it was awful to eat with so many bones. Taste was rather average and cost exorbitant ($36) for al la carte entree. In addition, the steak entree was rather ordinary. Would not recommend for dinner. read more
