A friend and I met here for dinner. The atmosphere in Symposium is warm and inviting. The server was attentive. They have an extensive wine list and cocktail list. On the night we were there, a singer was setting up. Unfortunately, we were a little early to hear any of his sets. I ordered the steak flatbread, gluten free. It had great flavor to it, and I would go back and try other flatbreads. My friend ordered what she always gets, which was a Caesar with chicken. She enjoyed it. We only stopped in for an after dinner drink, but I found the place super cute. My only complaint was it's pretty bright in there. We got a couple spots at the small bar and were served fairly quick. I had the espresso martini which was served in coupe glass. It was tasty, but pretty sweet. My boyfriend got a basic vodka cranberry, as they do not have iced tea. Visited for just a glass of wine with friends and was impressed with their extensive wine list, specifically because there were a few New York wines on the menu (although I'd like to see more). I really wish they had outdoor seating on the West Main Street side of the building, because it was a beautiful day and we really wanted to stay outside (hence why we stayed for only one drink). Went to Symposium Wine Bar today for brunch, and I was a little nervous seeing there were no lactose free options on the menu. I let our server know, and she kindly asked the chef what the our options were. While they don't have something directly on the menu (unless you do a dish minus cheese), they do have some dairy free cheeses. Our server, Karen, sat down and walked me through an option where the chef would make me a custom toast with their dairy free cheese. It was FABULOUS! I was so so pleased. So glad my bestie Ryli recommended we try this place! It was awesome. The atmosphere is very cool, although it can definitely get a bit loud when it's full with people. We tried a small charcuterie board with some of their rotating cheese and meats and the Mediterranean snack board. Both were great!! Our favorites were the cheese with truffles and the white Stilton with apricot. The whipped feta was fantastic as well. They had 4 mocktails on the menu but only 1 available which was the cucumber collins and pretty tasty! I love the way they serve their wine flights too. By complete luck we came here on their opening day and was excited to check out this new wine bar a few doors down from Lily Belle's in Lancaster. Like any new business, opening day can be hectic and this place was actually not too bad. I love the chic decor, long bar, and high ceiling; however the sound really echo in the room which makes conversation difficult. They offer wine by the glass range from $9+ and also can purchase by bottle. I'm not a wine snob but do enjoy a glass of red from time to time. They've got a good selection of various wine on the menu as well as food. Not cheap, but average for a fancy wine bar. I believe that down the road, they should do Happy Hour specials and live jazz band to draw more crowds. read more

I would be open to moving this up to a 4 or 5 star review once the iron out some of the staffing and service issues - but I do understand they were there because of some family emergencies. I loved that they sat us in a back private room where our group could socialize without too much effort . I did really enjoy my pasta in vodka sauce - it tasted very fresh . The bread I added to my order - with a garlic balsamic dipping oil , was good too . Our server was only on her second shift ever there - she struggled quite a bit and didn't know the answer to many of our questions . The owner did come over to apologize for the long waits in between courses - we waited an hour before half of our group got entrees - the other half 10 min after that - but was assured that dessert wouldn't take long at all . While well received , it still took about 15-20 min to arrive . Long story short . Ambience - A Food - B Service - C- . Definitely a cool place to try out if they work out the service problems and train more staff . read more

Loves their flight of sparkling wines! My favorite was the rose. My friend and I got the giant Bavarian pretzel that comes with beer cheese dipping sauce and spicy mustard. It was all very flavorfull. We got the large charcuterie board with two meets and four cheeses. I did not necessarily adore the kielbasa and prosciutto I chose, but all four cheeses were wonderful. We had the fontina, cheddar, dill, and champagne cheeses. That and the pretzel served as a very hearty and delicious dinner. The restaurant is quite small and beautifully decorated. We arrived at 5:00 on a Friday and there was plenty of seating. The only reason for four stars instead of five is because I was hoping for a bigger menu, but we are very happy with what we got in a plan to be back. I was in a group of 6 and we were told by our very nice waitress right away that it was her second day so she wasn't sure of many things we inquired about. She went to check for us a couple times on our questions. The food took a very long time and we were then greeted by the owner stating that the chef was behind tonight with being the only one where usually there are two. One was not able to come in. Then when the food did come only one side of the table got their food and the other side was left waiting for at least 10 minutes until the owner emerged again with apologies. The food was ok. I had a flatbread which was a good size but was just ok. Some at my table had the pasta which they said was good. The owner said we didn't have to worry about ordering dessert far ahead of time when our entrees came out since those would be made quickly. When we did order desert, it took much longer than anticipated based on her recommendation. I think we were just there on an off night. Otherwise the ambiance was great in this place in downtown Lancaster, such a quaint little village. I would go back to this location and try something else on the menu for sure. I would recommend this restaurant despite this experience. The owner made every effort to make things right for us. We still had an enjoyable evening here. read more

We've been fortunate to visit a few times now. The cocktails and wine options are solid. I'm particular about my cocktails, and the old fashioned exceeded my expectations. More recently they updated their menu to include flights of wine, which was also a very nice touch. Food wise, we've tried the charcuterie, flatbreads, bruschetta, and olives. Our favorites are the seasonal flatbread and charcuterie. Definitely a unique offering for Lancaster. Staff and owners are extremely accommodating, and aim to please. We hosted our daughter's baptism reception at Symposium this weekend and it was absolutely fantastic. Katie worked with us to come up with a menu that everyone loved and was really responsive to our emails and phone calls throughout the planning process. The staff were so accommodating and took care of our every need. The food and beverages were delicious (of course the wine is good but they also make a mean Bloody Mary) and the atmosphere was incredibly welcoming. What a beautiful space and wonderful hospitality! Great new spot in the village! I got the margarita flatbread pizza with the recommended wine pairing and it was good; the wine especially. My spouse got the chicken pesto sandwich with the recommended wine pairing and liked it a lot, too. Again - especially the wine. The food has some room for improvement, but as a brand new business just trying to get started I think they have it right. The food was of the highest quality. It was carefully curated and beautifully served. We had the charcuterie platter and a flatbread and it was made with care. We sat in the outside patio and sipped a flight of Italy's reds which was quite remarkable. All in all an excellent experience. We will return again with friends and family. read more
