Unique menu with delicious food. The bartender, Michael, was so personable that we forfeited our table and ate at the bar. We started with the pickled onion rings and aloi - hands down the best onion rings I've had in my life. We each got burgers that were cooked to our liking and flavorful. Michael recommended the Russian cake, which was the perfect amount of sweet, and topped with sour cream ice cream. AMAZING. He suggested we pair it with Lockhouse Coffee Liquor - he did not steer us wrong, it was delicious and we highly recommend the cake and the liquor to pair with it. We accidentally stumbled into this place after trying to go next door to Casa Azul, and being told to wait 30 minutes. The vibe here was amazingly refreshing, it has excellent hospitality and some of the best potatoes we ever had. I wish we lived here so we could come back more often! I had dinner here for a friend's birthday this past month. We had a party of 7 and the waitress Missy was probably the highlight of the whole evening. She was super pleasant and made our dining experience super relaxed. We took our time throughout the evening and she never made us feel rushed. She gave us a wonderful, breathable amount of space. Appetizers - really good. We tried almost all of them. Most of us got burgers. I have to say, it was a really good burger. It wasn't my favorite in the city but it was really good! We also got a couple desserts to share and I don't think any of us were overly impressed with them. They have a nice selection of beer and wine and those that got cocktails really enjoyed them! Checked this place out for something new to try for my wedding anniversary. The location was located near ample street parking, although I'm sure we just lucked out because there were no events at Shea's. I liked that they had a rotating, seasonal menu to choose from and a really cool cocktail list. We started with the spicy cucumbers and pickled onion rings. I could've eaten just those apps and they would have had a five star review based on those alone! Really good flavoring on both. For my entree I had the steak. I thought it was cooked nicely and I liked the plate presentation. What really made this place great though was the service. Our server was Kate and she had a great insight on the drink and food menu. She was very friendly and attentive as well. She knocked it out of the park though when she noticed it was our anniversary and brought out a complimentary piece of their honey cake with a candle on it! Our group of nine people dined here, before going to a play. We were, uniformly, disappointed with how the food was overcooked. Salads were delicious. Our hamburgers were bad, My Rare maybe Medium, Next to me, her burger was a hockey puck! All This with a tauted beef blend. Two had octopus, very chewy. Even the meatballs were overcooked. Hand cut fries were great. Waitress was great, did her best to solve our problems. A new burger to replace the hockey puck, was the best cooked meat of the night. I am modifying my review not because the experience was other that what I had hoped for but because the restaurant was completely responsive to my issues and dialoged with me about what and why it happened. That means more than one misstep on a busy evening. Marble & Rye is an exceptional addition to the emerging downtown residential community. I've come here to drink a few times. It's never crazy busy inside but I enjoy that. The bartenders are knowledgeable and willing to talk to you while you're there. Craft cocktail selection is interesting. Not sure what all the ingredients are all the time but the bartenders will always explain for you. My latest drink was a hot chocolate with rum. It was simply amazing! I've never had an alcoholic drink like it that I was blown away. Very sweet with hints of alcohol. Very smooth. Highly recommend trying this hot beverage. If you're looking for a great, cozy place to grab some drinks in Buffalo, this is a great spot. The ambiance is awesome - toasty warm with flickering candles dispersed throughout - so basically the perfect hideaway on a cold Buffalo evening. The entire restaurant is just gorgeous, with exposed brick and hardwood flooring. So why only three stars? If you're going for food, it does leave a little bit to be desired. The snack options on the menu are pretty good - I tried the pickled onion rings, which were tasty. An order comes in a pretty large basket, with plenty to munch on. Unfortunately, I assume due to the pickling process, the batter doesn't quite stay on the onions, and the whole affair is pretty messy. If you've had a fried pickle before, this is basically what they taste like, except they're onion rings. As for the small plate of pasta, which is what I also tried, I wouldn't exactly recommend it. The dish was overly salty, but I guess that is what happens when you take two very briny ingredients - anchovies and capers, and add them together on top of some pasta. Recommendation: Come for the drinks and ambiance, maybe some snacks. read more

I had dinner here on Saturday around 8 o'clock. We ended up being late for our reservation (surprisingly there was nowhere to park anywhere remotely close) but they still had a table for us. Our server greeted us right away and ran through the specials, all of which sounded awesome. The menu is the now-standard small plate/large plate combo with thankfully few options. We decided to try a bunch of different things as we usually do. For our "first course" we tried the spicy cucumbers, crispy chickpeas and picked onion rings. The cucumbers were fresh with vaguely Asian flavors; not too spicy. My dining companion didn't care for the chickpeas at all--they were fried dry and curry flavored--so I ended up eating most of them. Do your taste buds a fave and get the onion rings. They were out of this world! For our entrees we split the pasta and special burger, both of which change frequently. When we stopped in, the pasta was lamb--I wish I could remember more of the ingredients but it was delicious and that's about it. The burger was a blend of several different cuts of beef, bone marrow and topped with crispy pork belly. Normally I pass up this kind of decadence but we had to try it. It may have been the best burger I've ever eaten. After dinner, we wrapped it up with a French press and were far too stuffed to try dessert. Our server was awesome and the food service was on point. Came for the burger deal on Wednesday. Burger meat was decent but the bun was horribly dry. It cracked into pieces after a few bites. The dryness of the bun prevented me from enjoying the meat. I've heard a few people say that it's not a good idea to go to a restaurant on its opening night, but instead to wait a week or so once the staff starts to gel, they iron out all of the kinks, yada yada yada. Well, I *puts hand on hip* am not the type of guy who likes to play by the rules. They had a few friends and family nights prior this, but tonight when we went was the first time they were open to all us plebs. From what I experienced, you could have told me that place had been open a year, and I wouldn't have thought otherwise. I didn't notice any of the staff running around, looking rushed, or anything of the like. Once we sat down and looked at the menu for a few minutes, our waiter came right over and took our drink order. The cocktail menu really stood out; all of the drinks sounded great. I started out with my favorite drink, a Sazerac, which I more or less use a litmus test at a restaurant for deciding whether or not it's the type of place to get a good craft cocktail. Did that sound pretentious? Probably. Anywho, the drink was great, and the Bourbon and Tea I ordered next was even better. We ordered the Pickled Onion RIngs and the Cheese Plate. The onion rings were incredible, and super cheap ($5). It's definitely something I'll be ordering again. The cheese plate was good, too, but nothing to text home about. For my entree, I got the Pate Burger, which was delicious. I also appreciated the fact that it wasn't some monstrous serving that you're forced to cut in half to even make it possible to eat, which is apparently a thing now. I was pretty full after all that, so I probably shouldn't have ordered dessert, but, like the old saying goes "One day the sun will implode, everyone will die, and there will be no record of you ever existing, so why not just order dessert anyways?" My date and I split the Macaron One, which is a macaron with ice cream and raspberry jam. I really liked it. As you can probably tell by now, I'm not really good at describing the food I ate or why I liked it, so I'll just leave it at that. I had a lot of high hopes for this place, because the two owners are the guys behind the Black Market Food Truck, which is, in my opinion, far and away the best food truck in Buffalo. Such a beautiful place! Exposed brick, sexy globe lighting, and (yay...we snagged it) a cozy booth by the window, as well as another, and about a dozen other tables. The service is great. And, the menu.... while limited, contains a bunch of interesting sounding burgers and about a half dozen each of small and large plates... mostly comprised of local ingredients. I enjoyed a glass of dry French Rose as I perused the menu and listened to the specials. The salads, pasta, fish, and steak dishes change daily with the availability of fresh ingredients. Nice! I started with a Swiss Chard Salad (with sliced pears, crumbled goat cheese, rye croutons, and garlic vinaigrette). It was large for 2 or 3 people to share before an entree, fresh as could be, and perfectly balanced in both flavor and texture. I was slightly disappointed that bread (even when requested) was not brought to the table. A toast board is available to order, which I did not. For an entree I chose the nightly steak dish (just because it sounded so darn good). It did not disappoint. Tender slices of perfectly seasoned and cooked exactly to order sirloin (grass fed from Lake Country Beef) sat atop a medley of sliced celery root, and shaved brussels sprouts, onions, and garlic. The meat was then drizzled with house-made steak sauce. I cannot think of a better dish for a cold winter night. The desserts are all made in house (except for a truffle plate featuring Blue Table Chocolates). I chose the Shoe Fly Pie with Buttermilk Ice Cream. The crust was tender and flaky and the molasses rich filling was perfectly complimented with the sweet-tart ice cream and a smattering of chopped pecans. French press coffee (both decaf and regular) from locally roasted beans was available in a large or small size. It was a great ending to a wonderful meal. read more

One of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. Met a few friends there Tuesday night for drinks and dinner and I was very impressed. The decor and ambience is beautiful; trendy, but still warm and inviting. I love the use of fresh flowers all over the restaurant. The cocktails are mixed perfectly. The bartender was one of the friendliest bartenders I've ever met and her pours were spot on. Their house made coconut rum is amazing - I get mine with half pineapple, half ginger ale. It's not sugary sweet like Malibu is, it has a very natural taste to it. I also love the a fact that the bartenders pour you a glass of water the minute you sit down and constantly refill it. It's a small detail, but I appreciate it, and it did not go unnoticed. We started with the beef tartare which was seasoned very well, although I wish they had included a few more chips with it. I then had the sous vide egg burger and added cheddar...it was, by far, the best burger I have ever tasted. The blend of beef tasted so fresh and I order my burgers mid rare...it's hard to find a place that will cook a mid rare burger correctly. Our server was also great. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. The only (tiny) issues I have are with the fact that we were seated at a table with bench seats adjacent to the door. I know that this is an oddly shaped space, but I spent most of the evening with my coat on because of the draft every time somebody came in or out of the restaurant. It's just not a good place for a table. Also, there were six in our party. The server would grab plates from everybody else, but my fiance and I had dirty dishes in front of us throughout the entire meal. We were seated up against the wall, so I understand that maybe it was a hard spot to grab from, but that's still not an excuse to leave them for more than a few minutes. Marble & Rye definitely has a nice atmosphere going on with a lot of exposed brick and hanging plants. Their cocktails are tasty... I had the peach tea with bourbon. However unfortunately their hand-cut fries were quite soggy and they didn't even serve ranch dressing! The homemade chips were not bad. They serve them with Bison dip... However the Bison dip was kind of chunky and tasted more like garlic-y and not like regular bison dip that you would buy at the store. The cocktails were also a little pricey for me... $12 for a Long Island Iced Tea. Overall I probably wouldn't go there again unless the fries thing was a fluke. I stumbled upon this beautiful spot on my way to lunch one afternoon. I work less than 5 minutes away from this spot & boy let me tell you how thankful I am for that! If one of my girlfriends ask me if I want to "grab a drink" after work, I'm always suggesting this place. I can leave my car parked right where it is (which, for those of you who know downtown Buffalo parking...) and head over to this quaint little corner of the earth for a delicious cocktail & quite possibly THE best house made burger you'll ever have! The staff is ALWAYS smiling, ALWAYS friendly & ALWAYS signing (rightfully so, the music is almost ALWAYS on point!) which for me is certainly an added bonus. The decor is minimal & yet so incredibly cozy & I really enjoy the bathroom artwork! Which I can appreciate, as a local artist who has also curated artwork for a number of local restaurants, I have to say, when I go into a restaurant bathroom that can "give me a little more" than just a sink & a toilet to use, they've got my vote! p.s. I had the tomato salad w mint and marigold to start and it was like having a bite of summer.. The flavors blended and were just perfect. It reminded me of being in the garden in July.The whole trout had herbs and sliced lemons in the center and each bite was tasty and just a little different from the previous yet it all blended.Fresh seasonal vegetables were nicely cooked, tender but not over cooked at all. I didn't have the octopus, but others at the table did and said it was the best they ever had. Macaron 2- fabulous, again, a tasty combination of flavors I tasted the candy- it was wonderful, the dark chocolate and cardamon really mixed well. I wish I had ordered some to take home. I enjoyed the Rose- I didn't realize it was 'on tap' but my understanding was that it was local ( Leonard Oakes winery I think) The plating and presentation were gorgeous- I think its a saying that you eat first with your eyes..(and this was true here.... The service was attentive but not overwhelming, really graceful. The atmosphere is casual yet upscale, reminded me very much of a Manhattan restaurant. All in all,a good experience. This was a nice restaurant worth great service. Our cocktails were well mixed and came quickly. The server made suggestions for us on what to order and was extremely well versed in the menu. Cheese plate was good but it felt like there wasn't a lot of cheese and it was mostly butter, honey and apples.... still tasty though. Octopus was cooked well but the jalapeños were a bit overwhelming on the flavor. The pasta was similar, cooked well but overall bland. We split 4 small dishes as the big plates were very large. Vegans beware- despite the millennial attracting ambiance with exposed brick and succulents, marble and rye is not vegan friendly. The only on menu option is the Chana burger without a bun. The veggie curry in not vegan, and most dishes could not be modified. I really really wanted to like marble + rye. I enjoyed my cocktail and the ambiance but in the end was displeased due to their lack of effort/ ability to accommodate my dietary restrictions. The biggest frustration is how easy it would be for them to have a vegan options. Good wine selection, good cocktails. Good ambiance for a Saturday date night. Best burger in buffalo hands down (in my opinion at least) it's made with marrow. Also tried the rib eye on another visit and it was amazing. Most perfectly cooked steak even though rib eye is very difficult to cook perfectly. Then the octopus..... one of the best dishes I've ever had. It was as tender as a perfectly cooked lobster, and massively flavorful with a sauce that was to die for. I rarely rave about a place like this but it deserves all 5 stars and more. read more

Excited for this place but they do have a few things to figure out. We had no problem making a reservation or being seated on time. Waiter was great, gave us enough time to look at the menu but didn't forget about us, and he knew all the cocktails. For appetizers we had the octopus and the tomatoes. The octopus was finished in the wood oven and had a lovely crisp edge to it. Tomatoes were awesome. I had the chicken for dinner, my wife the burger. The chicken was prepared by brining, then fried for color and finished in the oven. It was really, really salty, and had none of the juiciness I expect from a brined bird. Gross, really. I should have sent it back but if course I silently ate it in anger. I love the decor, the location, and the promise of this place. But they should've known the chicken wasnt right. I've never tried the food here so this review is based on the drinks ONLY. Definitely some of the more crafty cocktails I've tried here in Buffalo. The ambiance is really mellow and chill. Perfect for a place like this. The barkeep was really efficient with the service. This particular night, the music was all classic Michael Jackson and the bartenders were really enjoying crafting the cocktails and shaking a leg behind the bar. I have to say this has been one of my best/favorite dining experiences. My boyfriend and I showed up around 4:30 on a Saturday and didn't think they were open, but a kind server came out and let us know the bar is open at 4 for happy hour. We went in and were delighted upon seeing their whiskey choices. The ambiance was also very nice - planters lining the rustic brick wall along the left hand side, wood floors, charcoal furniture and accessories, which gave a classy, romantic vibe. At the bar, I opted for a happy hour special, one of three: the Margarita (which I chose), bourbon and tea, or a Moscow mule. The Margarita is one of the best I have had out. My boyfriend chose the Old Weller Antique, a fabulous bourbon if you haven't tried it already. The aforementioned drink specials at happy hour are $5, and bar snacks are $1. You can order the really spicy cucumbers, the roasted chickpeas, or housemade chips and dip. We ordered the chips and dip, and the chips are seasoned with caraway seeds (an ode to "rye," which the restaurant boasts as a theme). Though I would like to try some of the other options, I must say I was extremely impressed and would love to return for happy hour snacks. The bartenders were extremely friendly and helpful, which only added to the great experience. We were seated right at 5, and my boyfriend ordered a bourbon and tea ($7 not at the happy hour price; happy hour prices are only available at the bar). The tea is made fresh in house. Needless to say, he loved it! He also ordered the M&R burger, which changes as per available ingredients. This one had freshly made onion straws, bacon, and housemade pickles. He described it as one of the best burgers in Buffalo. I ordered (sadly) the only vegetarian option on the menu, the fresh pasta, made with a vegetarian bolognese of butternut squash. It was delicious and I wasn't disappointed, only that there weren't a whole lot of other vegetarian options! The pasta was fresh and cooked perfectly al dente style. I would definitely order it again if they made it! Overall, a superior dining experience that makes you want to keep returning, so you can order whatever they're going to make next.
