I always liked this place but now I'm a huge fan. I'd called many bakeries asking them to make a gender reveal cake (blue icing inside if it's a boy and pink icing if it's a girl) and they all said they could but would need at least 24 hours notice. I was having my ultrasound to find out the sex of our baby in the morning and planning the gender reveal party for that night and Marble Slab was the only place that would make me a cake with short notice. Lovely! I brought the envelope with the gender inside to the lovely man that said he could make the cake. He opened it and didn't tell me a thing! It was a beautiful ice cream cake with a pink and blue cone on top with whip cream and sprinkles. My family loved it. We cut into the cake to find out it was a boy! First time to get an ice cream cake in here, no one picks up the phone so ordered online to p/u. Came to p/u after a few minutes of calling informing I'm coming a bit late but will be there soon. Arrived at location with closed doors. No one picks up call after call. No note whatsoever left on the door that they stepped out n will be back at certain time. Frustrating when you have sn event going on. A guy was waiting there upon our arrival also has been waiting to p/u too for about 15" before we arrived and we waited for like 10" or more too. Our food was ready for p/u on another location, so decided to go n p/u the food since weight be wasting so much time there - who knows if she dined in somewhere. Went back and informed the lady that there were 5 people waiting then and no notification posted on the door for customers to know. She justified her not being there that she also has a break n has to eat. Suggested to her to at least place a NOTE ON THE DOOR for customers to know. She further argued that she has to ask her boss next time ??? Ask what? Told her you dont need to ask whoever...just erite a note on a piece of paper n post it there. She was kind of annoyed and turned her back n went on what she was doing w/o asking me what I needed. Told her I'm picking up an order. But she started to continue on what she was doing. Seriously?! I told her my name n yold her i need the cake that moment since my son is soin going to work n we dont have time left (45" the most) + our drive back time that she stole already from us and waste of gas to add to it. She handed me the cake n I noticed there is no bday greeting at all. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! Asked her and she asked if I even gave any instructions at all. OF COURSE!!! Then she still has to do it - it should have been ready since I ordered it early PM n picked a bit after 6 pm when she was dining out. She never apologized that it wasnt ready and was pouting and not even thanked for the business! Whoever is the boss, please train your staff -remember, staff is the WINDOW OF YOUR BUSINESS. Actually, one star is too much. I had a terrible experience at Marble Slab over a year ago. Today, I wanted ice cream and had totally forgotten that previous experience, until I was ready to place my order. At that point, it all started flooding back. The brownies they use for the sundaes aren't fresh. The only sign that indicated that Interac wasn't working was by the cash register, at the back of the store. Doesn't it make more sense to have this sign at the front? To top it all off, the server never smiled not even when she greeted me. Excellent quality ice cream, because each order is made in front of you service is quite slow. During the summer months expect a long line up. I enjoy the flavors and quality but I prefer my ice cream a tad harder. You have to eat marble slab ice cream pretty quick or it melts quickly. I but most of my daughters birthdays cakes here, but this year it's Beta5 or both ;) Quality is worth the wait, yes it's more expensive but that's what you get food good quality ingredients. read more

I was fortunate enough to use a groupon for the cake but I'm not sure I would purchase again at the actual price (over $30 for a large ice cream cake). Was disturbed by a lack of experience and care of employees with their job, and as a concerned customer I called the owner. (It was a simple thing, some flyers of theirs had been blown off their table into the street of a mini street fair) When I started picking up the flyers for them and mentioned them floating away, their attitude was cheeky and rude. I suppose I tipped them off when I asked for their names and the owners personal number. When I called the owner, I guess they had warned her about me calling (probably made up a bs excuse about how I am a psycho) so she gave me lip service about how she knew "all about the situation" before I had even a chance to describe what had occurred. Needless to say the first rules of customer service, at even an entry level position, not to mention a leadership position, are to 1) Listen to the customer (even if they are nuts, which I am NOT haha) and 2) Rectify the situation (or attempt to, or pretend to if the customer is nuts). She told ME that she already knew about everything, and that there was nothing further more to be discussed, and her employees had just been doing their job. I was absolutely shocked at the way she spoke down to me, and so, at this point, even MORE infuriated I called their head office. Because this location is privately owned, and is a franchise, there wasn't much they could do to help, other then suggest I avoid that store in the future. I have, and will continue to do so, unless there is a freebie they offer which I will kindly take advantage of to rack up the witchy owners expense. I went here when the Plaza first opened with the guy that I am dating 'cause I had points to spare and was in the mood for a frozen treat. This was back in the day when I used to shop at the Michael's across the street before learning that it is cheaper to buy across the border. I have had the marble slab here and there since at other locations 'cause I like watching them mix things together on a cold stone. The weird thing is that for an ice cream place the staff acted as though they had a stick up their a$$. They never smiled, never greeted the customer and generally acted like they would rather be elsewhere. I get it that retail is tough and not always the best job situation, however, when most people are friendly there is no reason to act like the internet sensation grumpy cat. read more

I came to the marble slab at Burnaby marine way market on Saturday noon. The store was neat and clean, the staffs were very friendly and polite. They greeted me, offered some free samples and introduced a lot. Before that I had been to other locations, but they never told me in one ice cream I could choose two different flavors side by side. This time I got my medium size ice cream, half red velvet and half double dark chocolate, mixed with pecan and Reese peanut butter cup in a fancy skor cone, that was amazing, I even could not wait to take a photo but ate it, it's my best ice cream I ever had. Three small bites into the red velvet ice cream sandwich I had a small bite attached to a piece of long blonde hair (I have very dark hair). Unfortunately I was very disappointed with the birthday ice cream cake that I bought for my son's birthday. He was very exited at the idea of having an ice cream cake and asked for a mocha cake with brownie bits and cherries. My husband went to pick up the cake. When he got home, I noticed that the so-called brownie bits were small light beige coloured cubes stuck on the top of a beige coloured ice cream disk. There were dark coloured globs around the base. At first I thought the dark globs were the brownie bits but when the cake was cut, it was clear that the globs were the cherries and the brownies were the cubes stuck on the top. Other than that, the 'cake' was really just a round disk of not very good mocha ice cream. There was not much flavour to the ice cream. All this came at a rather exorbitant price for a 6-8 serving sized 'cake'. I was sooo disappointed. I have tasted ice cream cakes from Dairy Queen that I thought were great, but decided to try this one as they claim to have superior ice cream- don't believe it! read more
