This place was delicious! The restaurant itself is spacious, clean and has a cool modern feel to it. The service was very good too. The employee was nice and attentive. I really enjoyed the koobideh kabab (beef). It's affordable for the portion size. The beef was well seasoned and had a nice grill taste to it. It also contains a green pepper but be careful because the pepper is super super spicy. It was my first time having the eggplant dip and I enjoyed it. I think there's not enough bread for the amount of dip but you can get more bread for an additional $3. The fried mint on top was good but interesting as I've never had fried mint before. They also gave the crispy bottom of the rice pot to snack on later on and that was a great surprised. It was a friends birthday and they gave the napoleon dessert. This is my 3rd visit to Suren and have always enjoyed each visit. The food is very good and the service friendly. I love Persin food, but majority of the Persian restaurants are on the North Shore so it's nice to find a family-run business in Burnaby Heights. To start we had the Eggplant Dip (deep fried eggplant with caramelized onions, mint and whey). Served at room temperature with house made bread. The dip was good, but I would have preferred a grilled eggplant which they didn't have for a dip. Maybe they can make one! For the main we had the Lamb Kabab and Vaziri Kabab (1 skewer of chicken and 1 skewer of mixed meat) and a pile high amount of the softest rice with a dash of saffron on top. The meat was juicy. The meats tasted even better when we sprinkled sumac (a red and tangy spice made from dried sumac berries) on it. They leave a bottle on the table. So much food, we had to take home the rest and was enough for another meal. Easy free street parking (but look at the signage) out front and on the side streets. Open late till 11pm. They offer a 2 for 1 special each weeknight so check the board our front or ask the server. Will be coming back whenever I'm in Burnaby. read more

We were there for lunch today. Had the chicken kabob special2/$24 and a burger. Very good. Fries were especially good with burger as they served coated frys. We ordered takeout from Suren Persian Grill and overall, it was a comforting and flavorful meal with a few highlights. The koobideh was easily the standout -- juicy, perfectly grilled, and seasoned just right. It paired so well with the rice it came with, and we added a side of barberry rice which brought an amazing tangy-sweet balance to the plate. The lamb shank came with fava bean and dill rice, which was fresh, fragrant, and generous in portion. The lamb itself was tender and well-cooked, but we found it could have used a bit more depth or spice -- it was comforting but lacked that wow factor we were hoping for. I have had better lamb shanks. Everything was well-packed for takeout, still warm and fresh when we got home, and portions were definitely hearty. A great option for cozy, satisfying Persian food at home -- especially if you're craving koobideh or want to mix and match their delicious rice sides. We were so hungry, we forgot to click pictures! Solid upscale but casual Persian place in Burnaby Heights. Parking is available in a narrow lot next to the building. There are also many spots on the side streets. The venue is split level. The downstairs area has a bar, as well as a stage for live music. The upstairs (several steps up, not wheelchair accessible) overlooks the downstairs area. The place has a lot of natural lighting thanks to several skylights. Special mention for the ambience. There is also a E facing patio that takes up part of the parking lot on the W side of the building. Should be nice during hot summer afternoons. Staff were friendly. No complaints. Doogh - sour yogurt drink. Tasty. I always recommend trying this drink for the authentic experience. Lentil rice and lamb - decent chunks of meat with a pile of rice on top. Lots of raisins sprinkled throughout the rice. Actually works really well. Served with a dish of caramelized onions. Everything was delicious. Pricing is a bit more than some of the nearby competition (Cazba comes to mind), but the food here is very good. I will be back to try some more of their dishes. Recommended. read more

I finally won one of those instagram contests and got a chance to try here! Parking is not bad because every side street has a couple angled parking spots. The restaurant was a little rustic looking so it's more family style. Firstly, the waiter was super nice. Always checking in on us and making sure eveything is ok. I wanted to give him a thank you and to tip them at the end but he was on break at the other waitress declined the tip saying thank you. Eggplant dip (kashk e bademjan) - my friend always makes this dish for me and it's my favorite thing in the world. This restaurant puts loads of delicious fried onions on top. It was very flavorful but I a creamy kinda girlie so I prefer with more yogurt. Lamb kabab - portions are big. Lamb is a little tough but very juicy still. Torsh kabab - basically the lamb kabab but marinated with pomgranate and walnuts. This marinade made the lamb super tender. The flavor was outstanding and it pairs well with the rice. This is one to get over the regular lamb kabab. Baklava - they have a whole desert fridge in the front for people taking out. The baklava was so crispy and the syrup was not too sweet which is good. All in all service was great and the must try is the torsh kabab, which not a lot of Persian restaurants here serve. read more

I celebrated my birthday dinner at Surens a couple weeks ago. One of my best experiences. I was early and wanted a birthday coconut margarita to start. The server apologized sheepishly that their bartender was not available and he didnt want to mess up the order. I assured him I would be happy with anything and not to worry about getting it right. I appreciated the honesty and the coconut margarita was delicious. My family arrived and we tried the eggplant dip, so delicious. Ordered various kubideh and chicken dishes, when they arrived the food was almost overflowing over the dish, you will definitely not leave hungry. Meat was delicious and still tender. As a bonus, I love Tadeeq (crispy rice desert) but they didnt have it on the menu and I inquired anyway. The server informed me they don't typically make it but he would inquire as it takes some time. At the end of the meal, they surprised my with the tadeeq and it's probably the freshest tastiest I've ever tried. The entire dining experience was amazing and they were so generous with food portions, definitely going back if I'm ever in the area. read more

Ordered takeout and the food was still hot when it arrived home. I ordered the koobideh and chicken with barberry rice and lentil rice. I also added on a shirazi salad. Overall, I thought the portions are quite large and it's very filling. The beef was very tender. I also enjoyed the lentil rice as it was a good mix with some golden raisins in it too. The barberry rice was good, but I wish there was a bit more to mix into the rice. The chicken wasn't as tender and a bit tougher. But overall flavours were good. I'd order from them again and maybe eat in to try some other dishes! read more

First time trying Suren! Seated promptly for two at dinner time. They have a very big dining area. We were given the menu and we ordered the smoked eggplant appetizer to share, and a kebab plate each. It was a lot of food - we could have just shared one kebab plate. Smoked eggplant - tasty with tomato undertones. Came with four pieces of flatbread. Easy to share. Steak kebab - came with a huge plate of rice, grilled tomato, grilled pepper (actually spicy) and grilled steak. Steak was already cut up which I appreciated. Very tasty. They don't have a dessert menu so we went up to the counter to take a look. They have rice pudding as well as many different types of baklava. We ordered the baklava, which comes in 3, so we got an assortment. We particularly liked the Turkish kind. read more

Ordered via DoorDash not realizing it was a promo offer for happy hour special 10% off but unusually nearly 7Km away!! Sorry dasher!! Food was phenomenal. I ordered the lentils rice with lamb. My first thought was I'd better order this every week, before word gets out!! It's the best value for delicious and generous portion of lamb in town! But then I read reviews on DoorDash, I guess the quality control for online orders is hit n miss. I'm super grateful I got a fantastic one. In the meantime, this restaurant goes on my dine-in list for when in the Burnaby capital hill area. I'm looking forward to trying other dishes too!! read more

I havent really tried Persian food before but my friend had a craving so we came as a group of five and realized that with such large portions, we should have ordered fewer dishes to share! 3 of the 5 of us ordered their most popular Koobideh which came with two large portions and they raved saying that it was very tasty and juicy. For myself, I got the Chicken Kebab which was very large and enough for a second meal! It came with a gigantic portion of rice as well which was a little bit oily but went well with the chicken. The chicken itself was actually very tender being breast meat and had a good flavour without being too salty. Overall, if you're new to Persian food, Suren is a good place to try it out! read more

Big disappointment - Don't waste your time with this place - I used to order from them, but they have raised their prices on their food about 25% over the past year. Now as well, you have to add an extra $2-4 for a rice or salad option or you cannot add it to the basket -- The portions are smaller as well. Shame on this business gouging customers this way. I now order from Homa, another Persian restaurant. The same dish, chicken and rice ( Jujeh) is only $18 compared to $24 at Suren and the food is better and larger portion read more

We tried: * Koobideh * Shallot Yogurt * Smoked Eggplant Dip This was our first time trying this new Persian buisness and it was not to shabby! The Koobideh was nice a juicy, I loved how they included a roasted tomato AND jalapeño. Was a nice little spicy touch to the rice. The shallot yogurt was okay, wasn't to flavourful, very subtle but I always love a yogurt with my Persian food. The smoked eggplant was tasty, I like the bread it came with. Unsure what it's called but it was soft and complimented the smoke eggplant well. Overall, I recommend this place and I'll definitely will be ordering again to try different dishes! read more

I ordered Uber Eats from here. The joojeh and koobideh kebabs were excellent. The hummus and lamb kebab went straight into the garbage. Hummus is lumpy and has a ton of garlic which is not traditional. Also had too much tahini. The lamb had a strange off taste. read more

I actually ordered for lunch through Uber, ordered fava rice and lamb shank and added the balaklava cake thing. Lamb shank came with the fries ON TOP of the container in the sauce which sogged all the way because of the greasy sauce of the lamb shank, and then the balaklava dessert I could NOT even bite into it as they were stale. I had a promo discount so it was decent for price, I would NOT order again. Heard good things about Suren, I don't know if I just ordered the wrong thing. Not much flavour either on the meat, the meat was soaked in the sauce which was pretty greasy. Maybe i'm just not used to persian flavours. read more

Came here for a persian food and it was still new so the management still isnt doing well. The food was pretty good and i enjoyed it. Nothing much to say because i am not an expert in persian food, but it was definitely better than many i have tried, including cazba. They koobideh was good. We asked about the seating area, the hostess said our preferred seaing wasn't available, without a smile or contact with us since that point. A smile and/or suggestion would go a long way. 2)Customer instructions. When someone asks for food to be well done, it's better if anything to be extra well done rather than fall short. But more about that later. 3)Catering to a broad customer base. Although Persian resturants vary, some have at least one vegatraian stew. This restaurant does allow substituions but it it's the same thing; I ended up getting the vegetarian kebab. My partner - not a vegetarian - got the Soltani. Now the upside. After a subpar first impression from the restaurant, the server was phenomenal. Always smiling, he accommodated our request for plain tea with milk - not usually seen in the culture. Something did taste off about half of the meat, and eventually we found a lot of partly pink pieces. As we were going to take it home to cook more and have as leftovers, but we wanted to point out to the server for their information. The server actually talked to the manager and took the whole dish off the bill, which was completely unexpected and much appreciated. As for the rest of the food, nothing special but no issues. Portions are adequate and prices about on par with most Persian restaurants. The take out containers were hgh quality resuable ones which was great. I live in the neighborhood and Been to this place several times! The food is ok! Customer service : as irresponsible as it can be! Once inside and sited, you have to wait and wait for them to come! Today I was standing and waiting for several minutes infront of the door to be sited! no customer was there and all empty so no excuse! But The lady's conversation with another co worker was way more important to them than a waiting customer even when they saw me and I even called them! But was ignored for their conversation! After several minutes I left because clearly they don't care about their customers! And this was the second time this happened! Won't ever go back again and won't recommend! read more

I have always loved Perisan food and was so happy to see one open up in the Heights. You can see that they are new and finding their way, however this is where all great things must start. We decided to go there with 2 other couples and we were very pleased. The decor is basic and it doesn't appear that they have a lot of servers but the food was amazing. I ordered the Chicken with barberry rice and saffron. The chicken fell off the bone it was so tender and the rice was so fluffy that you couldn't stop eating it. The portions are quite large so I am glad I didn't order an appie, however in saying that I look forward to going back for lunch and having just a bunch of appies as they all seemed very good.
