I called Marc Todd to see if they could add a pendant to a necklace I wear and to see if they could shorten the chain they said they could. I went in and was shocked when the jeweler took the necklace, pendant and made the adjustments in front of me; I thought for sure I'd have needed to leave it there. When he was finished up he charged me less than a third of what I'd been quoted by another jeweler (*I don't share pricing for small businesses if it isn't posted). While I was waiting I browsed the jewelers they have for sale at the counter and spotted some really cool estate/vintage pieces. These guys are great. I've gone to them twice when my phone wasn't charging properly to ask them to clean out the charging port for me. Both times, they refused payment. It just took a couple minutes each time, but most businesses would still charge for any service, and I was willing to pay. Zero stars. I walked in. No one greated me. There were no other customers in the store. There were three male employees there when I stopped in. I said I wanted to resize my engagement ring now I purchased my engagement ring so I know what size it is it's a size 7 so he got up stumbled over and took my ring and put it on the Sizer and said this is a 6 1/2. I didn't argue with him I have been a size 7 that in my entire life and that ring is a size 7. Then he proceeded to size my finger and tell me that I was a nine or 9 1/2. The ring saying he was saying was absolutely falling off my finger and I said shouldn't this be a little snug I mean you don't want to lose the rain then he said well try my ring on it's a 10 and of course that didn't fit it was huge it was almost like he was just trying to insult me. So I waffled and said OK well maybe a 9 1/2 but I'm going to also get a wedding band that it will also have diamonds on it so you know I'd like to try some on so I can see what it would look like with the engagement ring and he says oh we don't carry rings that size like a 9 1/2 is just absurd I'll together it was just so rude and I will never go back there which is a shame because I could've bought my band from there and also my fiancé could've bought his band. Took in my father's watch to have it resized on a Saturday afternoon. While the owner was clearly in the middle of another repair, he stopped what he was doing and went right to work. First, let me say this isn't my first experience with this store. Two of the others were repairs on the spot where I didn't leave my jewelry there, one of which I did witness something I didn't like but since I wasn't leaving MY jewelry there at the time, it didn't concern me too terribly much. And I excused it as a freak thing. Another time was just to do a quick watch band purchase. So it was Saturday afternoon and all I needed were the pins on my watch replaced. Easy peasy. A 5 minute job. Marc Todd was backed up on work bc he was going on vacation Monday morning. His rather outspoken loud frontman assured me my watch would be done by the end of the day but it might be late so might be Monday before I could pick it up and that he'd call me Saturday night or Monday morning. Well, no call. I show up Monday afternoon to pickup my watch and his frontman is finishing up with a sweet older lady who is probably 80s and leaving her engagement ring (that she's had for likely 60+ yrs) there to be fixed. Fast forward. She leaves and he turns to me. Not only can he not find my watch anywhere but I notice he's left her very meaningful ring in a clear bag on the glass counter right there where she had been standing. He tells me my watch is "probably" in the safe and he doesn't have the code so we'll have to wait a week for Marc to return. I express my irritation that he can't say for sure where my watch is and is essentially holding it hostage such that I can't take it somewhere else and get it fixed more quickly and so he appeases me by telling me to have a seat while he takes one more quick look in all the places he's already looked. Meanwhile a couple of other folks have entered the store and the little old lady's diamond engagement ring is STILL SITTING IN THE CLEAR BAG ON THE COUNTER WHERE MYSELF OR ANY OF THE OTHER CUSTOMERS COULD POCKET IT AND WALK OUT. Yes the store has cameras but once that jewelry hits the pawn shop it's gone along with all its sentimentality. While he's looking I holler over to him, "I really don't think it's a very smart idea to leave someone's jewelry sitting out on the counter top like that." To which his response is,"Well I happen to trust our customers but thank you, I'll take care of that. " I come back a week later in the afternoon after Marc is back. I've still not gotten any call that my jewelry is done or been located or anything. I would have thought his frontman (same guy all the time) after this incident would have remembered me a mere week later. But he surely acted as though he was clueless. Found my jewelry, charged me, and said not a word about the previous incident. No apology, no explanation, no nothing. Before I leave I bring it up. He tells me in about as snotty a tone as Is possible, "I'm sorry but we've had more important things to worry about than YOUR JEWELRY!" [Let me remind you that I'm in a jewelry store.] My husband is there with me for moral support. We all three start to have words. Marc is in the middle of a transaction with a customer nearby. He starts paying attention now and gets involved. I am at this point no longer interested in having a back and forth with his loud mouthed frontman. After a brief discussion, Marc agrees to talk about it later, and that he would call me. I am very open to resolving this matter with hi at this point. He has my telephone # on the receipt ticket. We agree that he will call later to discuss further. At the time of this review, he's had 10 days to call me...ample time. He has not called. I'm no longer interested in resolution just an honest review of the facts. Sadly, on another occasion while I was in his store, I did witness the same frontman leave someone else's jewelry laying on the counter in exactly the same fashion, but though it was a freak thing. Jewelry typically has meaning and it definitely has value. It should be placed in a safe location immediately after it changes hands and before the next customer is waited on, and not left on the counter where anyone/ the next customer cannoli at it, touch it, steal it, etc. Sentimentality cannot be replaced EVER. You CAN CATCH A CROOK BUT YOU CANT RECREATE SENTIMENTALITY by replacing with like kind or reimbursing the value of the stolen item. Once it hits the pawn shop and it's gone, it's gone. read more
