Hurts my heart a bit to bring Marcelinos ratings down, as the service was great. All the servers were very nice and the food came out fast. The selection is a bit wider than your average mexican restaurant in the area. 10+ different burritos, 2 types of fajitas which we had an order of each. Mine was standard steak, peppers and onions, served with beans. My husbands shrimp, onions and mushrooms (canned! Yuck!) served with rice. I like beans AND rice and more than 2 tortillas (no more were offered), mine was alot better than his, his canned veggies weren't browned at all, just kinda warmed out of the can. Rice and beans had no flavor, the pan didn't sizzle. We shared the app platter for $10, a quesadilla (boring), flautas and taquitos (one was ok, the other not good, no idea which was which) and potato skins with beans on them (no flavor, no ketchup available) I was pretty dissapointed and expected much more reading the great reviews, almost $50 for a 2 meal, one app, no drinks dinner is way too much for the area. Inside its clean, but the area pretty bad, the bathrooms atrocious, in need of a serious fix up and cleaning. read more

This family owned restaurant is the best Mexican food in the high desert. I can say without any reservation that their food is probably some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. The service is always on point. Drinks never go empty, smiles abound, and prompt service is regular. The food is delicious without the sea of grease. Abundant rice and beans are always hot and fresh. From tacos to enchiladas to chili verde, the taste will always satisfy. The atmosphere is definitely your "hole in the wall" decor, but never feels dirty. The kitchen area is easily seen from the dining area so you know it's clean. Bathrooms are always well stocked and maintained. We make Marcellino's our destination for our Mexican fix. They are always accommodating and hospitable. Can't say enough about how much my family and I love it here. read more

The place is family owned and operated. Very friendly staff and the service is exceptional. This food sure is tasty... I've come here a few times and I order fajitas or something but today me and my family wanted to try the Sunday Brunch. The brunch has fruit, salad, menudo, and a few other items that will satisfy your taste buds. I recommend getting yourself some Mexican sweet bread while you're here also. We're regulars here and have been since they first opened. We've always had fantastic service. It's my favorite Mexican food place, and that's saying a lot given the fact that I tend to eat at Mexican restaurants before any other while traveling. My husband loves the chaparitas tostadas and usually orders them. I've been all over the menu and haven't found a dish I didn't like. The tacos are fantastic. I haven't found a taco that beats theirs. The tamales are okay but not the best. Burritos are wonderful. I'm especially partial to the fajitas - order them for 1 or 2 people, you can get chicken or steak with as many corn or flour tortillas as you need. They'll deliver them to you on a sizzling skillet with all the fixings, and then you just ignore everyone around you while you focus on the deliciousness. read more

My family used to frequent Marcelino's weekly. It was the only Mexican restaurant my parents would take us to for a very long time. I remember the owner...always standing in front welcoming and seating his customers and the food was always so yummy. Later, the owner sold it to his cook and my family still kept going but eventually stopped. I'm not sure why. My husband and I recently drove by this forgotten restaurant and I decided I wanted to try it again. I went with a friend and it was still nice and quiet and clean. The staff was very friendly and the food was so so yummy. I don't know why it has taken me so long to come back! My husband and I have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant since our favorite (Mi Ranchito) closed down last year. I will bring him here and hope he likes it just as much as I do. *****update! I have been eating at this restaurant since 1988 when it was opened. My kids grew up eating at this restaurant, Grandpa loved it. I have been in Apple Valley since 1980. The family that owns it now, their father was the cook for the original owners, when they decided to retire they sold it to him. They are a wonderful family, their food is consistently great and I find myself comparing it to any other Mexican food I eat! Always tastes great. read more

The original owners (Marcelinos) sold it to their chef around 10 years ago. Food is as good as ever. If you like fresh spicier salsa request their green salsa at no extra charge. The family owned atmosphere is warm and friendly and always courteous and prompt. The food is top shelf. So delicious. We especially love the enchiladas. Great Sunday brunch too! read more

Spectacular food. Literally the best cheese enchilada I've ever had - great texture on the tortilla with a roastie flavorful red sauce. I give it a 3 star because of the inconsistency of the food. First time it was so delicious. Second time it was okay. Third time it was good again. Fourth time it was awful. Ok, ordered a Carne asada burrito with meat, cheese and pico only. It was $10! Whatever, it's not fast food. I get it, it's the smallest $10 burrito in the world. I'm over it. I start eating it....it's really good. No longer that bothered that I'll still be hungry after eating it. Then I get to the giant hair inside the burrito. Hunger problem solved! This place changed owners a while ago and things got WAY BETTER! Drinks got bigger, portions got bigger and the place seemed more relaxed. Food is great and the service is wonderful. We never had to ask for refills, our drinks were always filled! Muy bueno! read more

I definitely agree with other reviews that the place is very Americanized. It's a roomy restaurant with lots of decor. The service was nice and it didn't take long to get our food. We ordered two chicken tacos, and an order of carne asada fries ( I've never heard of carne asada fries?) the total came out to 20.31$ ( kind of pricey) the fries happened to be just cheese fries with bits of carne asada and guacamole and sour cream on top. They were way greasy and it's not a plate id go for next time. The taste wasn't familiar to the Mexican food I know at all, which was very disappointing. As for the tacos, double tortilla with shredded chicken and yellow cheddar cheese? No, thanks. Not getting that again. The food here reminded me of Taco Bell. I was very disappointed that they did not do things traditional, instead, they let the dishes lean towards tex mex. I did notice the attention and dedication to their restaurant, but I'd never come back here for Mexican food. read more

Not going back. Food was gross. Flautas were soggy like they were made in a microwave. Beans and rice were a little cold and not much flavor. This is not authentic Mexican food. The hubs and I came here for a lunch date. The restaurant was clean and the waitress was friendly and helpful. I ordered a Tostada Grande the meat was flavorful and tender. There were beans at the bottom but looked and tasted nothing like the "barf beans"as referred to in one Yelpers post. The Tostada was delicious. The hubs wanted a seafood combo that wasn't on the menu, he asked the waitress if there was anything similar they made and she said the cook was more than willing to make him a Botanita platter. The Botanita platter was amazingly delicious! We will definitely come back. read more

i quess if your starving and on that side of town ... then continue to the next place for this place has lost all is glory .. ate there years ago and seemed to be the premier Mexican food eatery's. went recently and starts with the water .. obviously tap water.. the taste of a garden hose is fresher.. then the stale chips.. my gosh ...COME ON .. its chips .. .. then the taco salad .. I expected a fresh crunch meal yet they managed to put out a mushy pile of ingredients. they used the fine shredded lettuce when subjected to the semi warm meat caused the lettuce to turn to water and wash into the meal the meat was pale and prob in a dangerous germ friendly environment. ever wonder why your sales are down ... its starts witrh the water and chips read more
