We've taken lessons years ago by a franchise dance company but didn't quite get the grasp of it. A friend also tried to teach us years after but to no avail, we weren't grasping it. Marcelo is a great teacher - he can break down the steps in ways that make sense when the movements may not come naturally. He provided both verbal and physical feedback to help us improve and enjoy dancing. He was able to seamlessly switch between lead and follow roles so both could mimic him. The small class was a great way to get sufficient attention but not feel overwhelmed, as well as have the chance to dance with other people at similar levels. I found Marcelo salsa class via Meetup, at the same time I am learning ballroom dance. Ballroom dance has lots of body movements to hold and to place. He also has an eye for identifying areas of deficit, providing individualized instruction with several practice repetitions, and the most helpful of homework drills. Highly recommend him. Marcelo is the best salsa instructor I could have asked for. I had initially tried out a different dance studio and found that I wasn't getting it and I was feeling discouraged. I found Marcelo a few months later and after the first lesson with him I felt that I was learning and capable of getting better. Marcelo is very patient and detail oriented, he catches small things in style and technique so that you don't build bad habits. He's very friendly, professional, attentive, and most importantly, he is competent and really knows his craft. Marcelo is a terrific teacher! He is really patient with beginners and makes sure we really understand the fundamentals so that we build from a good foundation. We took a beginner salsa workshop with him and liked him so much that we asked him to choreograph our first dance for the wedding! We challenged him with a motown song and he surpassed our expectations!
