"Small items in bags only" this store takes advantage of local veterans/active duty PERIOD
    Kyle M.

Place is so expensive, nothing like the commissary's by bases. They have no tax but most items are marked up. On top of that they charge 44 cents per bag and refuse to give any other option. We told them don't put any big items in bags and they 100% took advantage of every opportunity for a bag as possible putting 2 items in bags. Total for 11 bags should've been 4$ and change then why is there a sur charge of 13$ and some change????? Every time we go to this place we have to look at the receipt because we feel like we get scammed. Local grocery stores for us our total is 200$ or less and we spend 300$. Stay away better going to regular grocery stores. No wonder this place is always dead

Great selection of products and tax free if you're Active duty or a Veteran. Bring your own bags though!

People are pretty nice that work there. Make sure you tip the baggers. A lot of them are old timers and former service members.

You just can't beat the commissary. This one is larger than some I've seen at much larger bases. Hey they now have a Redbox too.

Ask the Community - March ARB Commissary

I am 72 yr old Vietnam Vet, retired from Marines and a 100% sc vet. Can I shop there and can i have my roommate assist me as I have severely limited walking ability. Also I still have the old military card issued to me in the 70's?

As long as you have a VHIC (veterans health identification card) you'll be able to enter and sponsor your roommate inside the base.

My family is military but not here can I still come and shop?

Yes, as long as you have a military ID.

I will say that prices are definitely on the higher side for many items, but that's somewhat expected for "healthy" grocery alternatives. Unfortunately, my experience could have easily been 5 stars if it weren't for one employee (a heavier-set man) who initially treated us very kindly. However, once he saw my family member paying with an EBT card, his attitude noticeably shifted. The warmth and friendliness disappeared, and we felt treated differently after that moment. No customer should feel judged or treated unfairly based on their method of payment. It was disappointing, especially after what started as such a positive visit. I hope management addresses this, because aside from that interaction, the store itself was great. Every customer deserves to feel welcomed and respected. In customer service, professionalism and kindness should be consistent, regardless of how someone pays.

Instead it's nice that you can go here! For me, it's just 10min away from home! As someone who grew up in the SF Bay Area, where Filipino markets and restaurants are as common as any other Asian grocery store, moving to Moreno Valley was definitely an adjustment. When you're used to having places like Seafood City just around the corner, realizing the nearest Seafood City or Ranch 99 is about 30 minutes away is a real culture shock! That's why I was so excited to find this hidden gem only 10 minutes from my home. Sure, the aisles are narrow, but honestly, it reminds me of the small neighborhood markets back in the Philippines. It adds to the charm and makes the shopping experience feel authentic. You know you've found a good local mom and pop Filipino market when within seconds of walking through the door you spot balut, homemade ensaymada, a fish fry counter, and shelves stocked with traditional Filipino brands in the kind of variety you normally only see at Seafood City. They carry many of the staples and specialty items that can be hard to find in the Inland Empire. Sure, the fish fry isn't as crispy as like the big markets, but hey that's just one thing that i won't fault this place entirely for! For Filipinos missing a taste of home--or anyone wanting to explore Filipino food and culture--this place is absolutely worth the visit. I'm grateful to have found a little piece of the motherland so close to home. Now if they could somehow squeeze a Jollibee, Red Ribbon, and a tita asking why I'm still not eating enough into the store, I'd never have to drive to Orange County again. lol

This is one of the few places you can get snacks to try, fish balls, or even pastries. For me their stand out is their fish counter. Now they don't have the largest selection of fish, however, they are always fresh and cooked and seasoned to perfection. You can get a light fry or heavy fry. You can get it seasoned lightly or heavily they are great at accommodating. They can even just clean and gut the fish and package it for you to take home and prepare as you best suit it. They typically have tilapia, red snapper, cat fish, and shrimp, but there are some other fish variants as well. As I have become somewhat of a regular they basically know me by name. However they are always kind and treat their customers well. This place is a very welcomed part of the community and we'll recommended to try.

Now that I live in MoVal, Cardenas is the closest grocery store like it so I shop here now. I should preface with saying I only come here for the produce section on most days. On occasion I buy meat and tortillas. Parking is plentiful. You'll always find a cart available. I spend the bulk of my time in the produce section. I've found that their produce lasts me much longer than other grocery stores in the area. Like any grocery store, not every single item is going to be as fresh as the day it was picked. But generally they have great quality and amazing pricing. I have had the pan dulce. I just think it's a tad overpriced at 4 for $5 for my liking. I'd rather support my local panaderia at that point. I love going to the tortilleria for fresh flour tortillas for burritos. They're a tad pricey at $4.99 a bag so I only buy it on occasion. It's certainly more convenient than making it at home. The self-check out is pretty convenient if you don't have a cart full of groceries. I did have trouble one time and the attendant was able to help me once I asked for assistance. Personally, I'm neurodivergent and get overstimulated quickly so I appreciate the lack of customer service others mentioned In all seriousness, I haven't experienced anyone being rude. But they're also not going out of their way to greet you or check in to see if you need assistance. It would be great if they had more than one lane with an attendant open. I've seen it get backed up several times. It could be solved easily by opening up a second lane. I appreciate that they have security working at night. I rarely get my shopping done during the day so I couldn't even tell you if security is working then, but I feel safer walking to my car at night knowing someone is watching the area. I have generally enjoyed going to the butcher here for a couple meats on occasion. I love the bistec ranchero for carne asada, but the price is a bit steep in this economy at $13.99/lb. Today, I went to restock as we were out of protein in my home. I got four different cuts of meat, two beef and two chicken. Two things occurred that really bothered me. (1) The butcher failed to change gloves between handling different types of raw food, like different species of meat (beef and chicken), which I suspect may be a health code violation. (2) The butcher used the same contaminated gloves when creating the labels and handling each bag of meat. All of my bags were contaminated :-( Unfortunately, I was in a hurry to get home as my husband needed the car to go to work so I didn't have an opportunity to say something or talk to someone. So I knocked down a star for the cross contamination.
