When you visit New Glarus Brewery and purchase a beer, they give you a token that can be redeemed at a few of the bars and restaurants around town. I had a token and needed lunch so after a quick scan on Yelp, we decided to check out Ott Haus. And I was not disappointed. The building is cute and kinda small. It definitely had an older feel, kinda dive bar-ish but it was clean. They have bar seating, a handful of tables, and a beer garden area. It gets a little crowded pretty quickly so you may make some new friends if you share a table. The service was great and the owner was super nice. She answered questions and was very accommodating. They have New Glarus beer on tap, duh. But also domestics, cocktails, and soft drinks. I had a strawberry rhubarb beer from New Glarus and absolutely loved it. I also had a PBR which is my stand by. Based on the reviews, we had to try the cheese curds. They come with a dill ranch. They weren't greasy at all. They were lightly breaded and fried perfectly. The ranch was a tasty accompaniment. Highly recommend and would order again. For my entree, I ordered the Beer Cheese Bacon Burger: 1/2 pound burger cooked medium with beer cheese and bacon on a pretzel bun. This was probably my favorite meal of my Wisconsin vacation. The burger patty was delicious and seasoned well. The pretzel bun held everything together and paired perfectly with the creamy beer cheese sauce. The bacon was an added bonus. I opted for tater tots for a side and enjoyed dipping them in that extra beer cheese. This was seriously one of the best burgers I've eaten in a looooong time. It's probably good that I live 500 miles away because my waist line and wallet would take a beating. I highly recommend stopping in and grabbing a drink and food. The Ott House is a can't miss eatery in New Glarus. Although my wife and I at first wanted to find a place serving more Swiss authentic food we were pleasantly impressed with this restaurant. We started with the baked cheese curds with ranch dressing which was simply awesome. We followed that up with the Ott House burger for my wife and the Wisconsin burger for myself. Although my burger was excellent the Ott House burger which my wife shared with me was simply fantastic. One of the best if not the best burger that I ever tasted. Special kudos to the waitress Raven who handled the entire restaurant by herself. Highly recommended and can't want to return. All that was missing was a true jukebox. Our family of 14 embarked on a mini spring break trip to Madison, WI and our first stop was at New Glarus, also known as Little Switzerland. This is a quaint and beautiful town with a population of just slightly overly 2,000. Some of the items that we ordered are the cheese curds, fried mushroom, fried cheese BLT, mini potato pancakes, Ott Haus burger, and currywurst. The latter three particularly stood out. The mini potato pancakes were well-fried and crispy. The Ott Haus burger was the 2023 Green County Burger Contest Winner and rightfully so! It was exceptional especially with the house-made bourbon bacon jam. The currywurst brought back fond memories of my business travels to Germany. We upgraded the burgers and sandwiches to come with fries and tater tots instead of house chips. Portions were generous and everyone was stuffed. The restaurant isn't very big but thankfully it was a Thursday afternoon so it was not overly busy and we were able to combine three tables to accommodate for our party size. Another thing to take note of is that they charge an additional fee for credit card users. I guess it's understandable since this is a small establishment in a small town. However, for our party size, the bill was easily +$200 and who would carry that much cash these days? read more

Stopped in for a weekday lunch since I was in the area. I was impressed that they were voted for Best Burger in Green County in 2023 so opted for that. The Ott Haus burger was impressive. The bourbon bacon jam and the swiss cheese paired perfectly together although I also picked up maple syrup in the jame as well. The burger was substantial (1/2 lb) and cooked perfectly to medium. I will say the patty itself lacked seasoning but the overall flavor was on point. I appreciated the homemade chips that accompanied the burger. Beer selections of course were well represented by local new glarus brews which I appreciated it. Bartender was welcoming. A solid experience. Some say its best burger in the Madison area-I would disagree but a great option nonetheless read more

We dropped in for lunch in New Glarus before we hit the New Glarus Brewery for a tour. We started with their cheese curds, which were pretty good, and then chased that with a Cowboy Burger for my wife, and a Gyro order for me. The Gyro was just average, the Cowboy Burger was pretty good. Service was okay, it's easy in and out - you can get to the back area by going through the door on the side of the bar, and exit out the swinging door to the street after you settle your bill. read more

Came into New Glarus the week after Christmas and apparently many restaurants close this particular week. So, after many closed signs we found Ott Haus which was open. A small bar with your typical bar food menu but drinks were cold and food was overall good. Unfortunately, one person in our party wanted the Ott Haus burger but they were out. I found that amusing when a place it out of their namesake food option. But the kids were happy with their choices, the burgers were quite good and one chicken sandwich was good too. We stopped in after our tour at the New Glarus Brewery, and I wasn't impressed with our what we had here. We ordered the following: Haddock Chowder, Oktoberfest Burger, Deep Fried Fish Sampler (loin, perch, bluegill), and Pumpkin Cheesecake. My favorite thing we ordered was the Oktoberfest Burger - filled with favorite German-inspired flavors that derived from the sauerkraut, swiss cheese, beef, and pretzel bun. However, I thought the French fries that came with it were of poor quality. The Deep Fried Fish Sampler was only okay - I did notice that one of the fish fillets had a muddy/dirty taste to it which made it less enjoyable. The Pumpkin Cheesecake, although extremely sweet, was super creamy and bursted with pumpkin flavor on top of a butter graham cracker crust. Yet, it tasted much like a cheesecake you would buy at a grocery store. If I'm ever in the area again, I probably won't be coming back to Ott Haus - I'll probably end up trying one of the bars across the street read more

Nice little bar with some dining tables along the walls. A dozen or so tap beers, then another dozen or so bottles. I had a Draft Warped Speed Scotch Ale, which I have enjoyed before and it did not disappoint. My wife had Summer Shandy which was also on tap and pretty good that way as opposed to bottled. We were there for lunch and there were a couple other diners and several drinkers at the bar. I had the perch sandwich. It was served on pumpernickel with a dill sauce and lettuce. It was tasty. I would replace the bread with a bun, and have the lettuce and onions (that I asked be added) unchopped, as opposed to way they came diced up. Onions sliced and lettuce in whole leaves. My way would make the sandwich easier to eat. Don't know if you can get it that way, but it was still good if a little clumsy to hold together. My wife had the beef sandwich special, came on a bun with fries and was decent as well. Funny signs on the walls. Nice feel to the place. read more

Our waiter was not attentive and not very friendly/helpful. Made it seem like it was a problem that I wanted toppings on my burger. Which was not very good; clearly a frozen patty. The place was not busy at all yet our waiter took too long to give us an opportunity to order another round of beer and it seemed like we were huge pains for wanting separate checks. I finally made it to Ott Haus and I was surprised! I believe they have new ownership and it's great. It's an old fashioned place with a lot of wood and history. New patio area in back for music. The menu is more than typical bar. "Pig Wings" are tasty little shanks I've only seen one other place in nashville. Deep fried but not breaded or greasy with several house made sauces. Hunter is a great bartender and source of information. On Saturdays Jade, the cook, smokes a bunch of ribs that were better than the places on my Tennessee, Carolinas barbecue tour. I'm told they also have smoked wings. One of new favorite places just 2 blocks from New Glarus' main drag. Our server on the second visit was super helpful and friendly. We were a group of 12 at 2pm on a Sunday when the packers were playing. You would think they would have at least 2 people on staff (one to cook one to bartend). When food got to the table food was not right, we ate it anyways. Cheese curds were still a little bit frozen. If you are coming for a drink you will not have any issues.
