A big shout out to Todd from San Marco Ace. The consummate helpful and kind ACE representative. The job was to deliver 40 bags of sea wall stone to my house. The number of bags I should add here, was a guesstimate on my part. After arrival and introducing himself he asked where I wanted the bags stacked and mentioned that 40 seemed excessive. After looking at my sea wall he suggested that 20-25 bags would do the job. He then offered to return the remaining 15 and arrange a refund. He kept me informed of the transaction and saved my having to return to the store. I've never been disappointed with customer service from this store in the past but this gesture was a new high. I purchased a dielectric grease dispenser that was defective. Less than a pea size of grease came out and nothing after that. I tried to return it after two weeks with my receipt and Steve, the store manager, refused to return it as he said since I used it I couldn't return it. I would rate this store zero stars if yelp would let me. I will never shop at this Ace hardware again. read more

I am a frequent, as in weekly, ACE customer in Charlevoix, Mi and Boyne City, Michigan as well as several on Marco. I would totally dissuade anyone from using the ACE on Elkcam, Marco Island,. The staff, as others have said are surly and just downright grumpy. I had purchased the wrong drill bit but did not realize it until after I had removed it from the packaging. I immediately put it back in the package and taped it shut. Along with the receipt I went to return it (and purchase some other supplies). The manager (reported to also be the owner?) was rude and condescending walking away before, in my opinion, we had finished talking. He simply said since it was out of the package it was my problem. He could not resell it. ACE should close this store before it further tarnishes their good brand. Interesting that several large signs out front say, "100% Helpful"...BS. Go to another ACE - like Sunshine on San Marco. I know I will!! read more

Very nice small business. Have a lot of nice things that have been sitting on the shelf most likely from Amazon, big box and pandemic. I think we need to purchase from the locals before they go away. Something we will all regret. read more

Needed a replacement bulb for my microwave. Visited the store and one of the staff assisted me in locating the correct size and wattage. The store has a large/well organized inventory. Great place for all your needs as well as a professional and courteous staff. read more

I needed a 2032 button battery. I happened to be on Elkcam, so I decided to drop into this Ace Hardware out of convenience, mindful that the handful of previous visits were memorable in a negative way. When I last visited in June 2022, I recalled that the interior temperature of the store was stifling hot. Staff was surly, and the inventory was somewhat in disarray. Today's visit was no different. The two poor gentlemen employees at the check-out counter seemed grumpy when I asked directions to locate my desired item. Not surprising based upon the draconian heat in the store. They were fighting over a single oscillating fan that had seen better days. The Ace point of sale system was not working, so my purchase was transacted on a Rube Goldbergesque 1st generation Square card reader gizmo with some weird stain on the housing. The gentleman who handled my transaction openly complained about the owner when I inquired about the oppressive heat inside the store. I paid and got the heck out, basking in the much cooler 89 degree weather outside this store. Note to self and anyone else in need of a hardware store: Go to Sunshine Ace Hardware on San Marco Road: Friendly staff, great inventory, Ace Rewards and AIR CONDITIONING! Learn how to measure!! Went there this morning looking for a replacement glass for a window. They were out of single pane glass (Irma hurricane) so I inquired about Lexan which they had. The salesman asked me 3 times for the size. Three times I told him the same, 23x51. I get back to the condo to install it only to find out he cut it 22 3/4 x 51. That left me with a gap that I had to fill with silicone. Now I'm calling a glass shop to re-do it. You walk in the store and they always ask "how can I help you?" Maybe you could learn how to read a damn tape measure! You asked me three times. I told you three times. I'm out $41.00 dollars. I won't be back read more

Watch out for this place. They pick and choose what they will let people return/exchange. "Hassle Free" return policy their receipts say.

Tim, a hardware expert at Ace Hardware, was very courteous and helpful when I called looking for white marble stone for my mother's small garden. When I described to him what I'm trying to do, he recommended screen for sifting the sand off my existing stone, and weed pad for under the stones. I told him that Richard was mentioned on Yelp as helpful, and asked his name. LOL He said to ask for Richard! The joke continued when I got to the store and asked for white stone, and another guy said Tim, here's your stone phone call! I felt like part of the family when they joked around and laughed along with me. I made my purchases and they loaded everything into my van and wished me luck with the garden. Went to this store to get some bolts to fix a beach chair. I didn't know how I was going to do it because I had no tools with me to do the job. The clerk not only loaned me the drills and wrenches necessary but even helped me do the job! I tried to give him a tip and he declined. They only charged the cost of the hardware, one dollar! After buying things at this store for over 10 years to use at my condo I've had on Marco Island for 26 years, I never expected to meet the rudest salesperson on Sunday just before closing. Diane the salesclerk lectured me as I arrived in the parking lot and when I was at the cash register she continued her unprofessional manner to me in front of another customer. I'm sure the owner of this store never expected Diane to treat paying customers like this. read more
