Power went out today. We asked when orders would be ready and they said 30 minutes. 40 minutes later, they hadn't started our order even and there was a line of people without food. They seem like they were chaotic and instead of keeping order, they just kept taking in more orders. We had left without eating because it would've taken another hour. They gave us a half apology but they kind of didn't care. They were a mess. Completely understand if they couldn't handle it due to power issues, but at least tell us and keep us informed especially if we were waiting inside and stop taking more orders when you cannot handle it. On our hunt for average tasting pizza in the area, we decided to try Marco Roma after being thoroughly disappointed with the degrading quality of another pizzeria in the neighborhood. We ordered for delivery thin crusted pepperoni, margherita, plain cheese and ceasar salad with grilled chicken the first time around. I quite honestly did not expect anything great from this place but as soon as I took a bite of the margherita, I was momentarily transported to Napoli, Italy having my first bite of Da Michele's margherita pizza on a train back to Sorrento. Yes! I found it to be that good!. I have never set foot in this pizzeria and I don't know if they make their pizza in wood burning brick oven but the crust was thin and chewy, the sauce was a perfect combination of sweet and tangy with flavors of roasted basil and a hint of smokiness. The pepperoni and plain cheese pizzas were absolutely delectable as well. I can tell from the taste of the pepperoni that they used the premium kind. It tasted uncured (I'm sure its not), clean and just simply delicious! Can it really compare to Napoletana pizzas?? All I could say is that I found my new Friday pizzeria! Mangiare Bene! read more

Nice crust but nothing exquisite, this above-average pizzeria has fast food seating and delivers to the area. We enjoyed the thin crust, which the cashier recommended. The crust tastes remarkably homemade and old-school, with just enough of a crunch to keep us wanting more, without being too crispy. The chopped salad was a step better than good enough, and was exceptional in terms of this type of pizza place. My family and I are regular customers of Marco Roma and just love their pizza. I have a business in Northbrook and we decided to cater for the staff. This was my first time catering from Marco Roma and the experience was exceptional. Pizzas and Pastas are the best, but if you are trying to stick to a New Year's resolution they have some of the freshest salads. The Caprese or Pollo Chop are a must. We can't recommend this place enough whether it is family night takeout, catering for a large group or feeling the pride that goes into everything this business does. read more

I was visiting friends in the area and they said "let's order Marco!" Wow! The deep-dish Tutto Carne was awesome and although I didn't partake, the Pollo Chopped salad looked excellent as did the burrata. Prompt delivery. What more could you want. Will order again, highly recommended. read more

This is a new place with a nice remodel so it looks like a fine dining sit down restaurant from the outside. Its really a casual pizzeria with a few tables, but the pizza is pretty good. Also has a complete selection of fast food options, sandwiches, pasta, sausage and peppers. Good addition to the area which needs more quick casual options. read more

Classic Chicago pizza. Didn't think of much when I saw it because it was buried in between stores. But wow do I not regret my decision my family and I get it monthly now. My kids are constantly begging me every weekend to get Marco Roma. The Roma Crust is a little bit much but the thin crust is magnificent. My only complaint is the cheese is a little bit greasy and sticky. If you are trying to pull out a slice you will get half of the cheese from the slice next to it. Pepperoni is cooked to perfection! Overall a great place to stop and have dinner. Also available for takeout. Underrated for sure! read more

Picked up a pizza tonight and staff were not wearing masks despite the state wide mask mandate. Add in the teenage staffer who called my husband 'son' when asked where his mask was and the possibly then contamination of food when the same kid went to get the pizza from the back..... one thing I require from restaurants is good food safety practices. Masks in today's COVID world are a necessity in food service. Until there is some assurance of this, my pizza cannot come from here. read more

I like the food at this place, really, I do. I've been here numerous times and I've come to love their foccaccia sandwiches. I've had the pizza here a few times, meh, there are much better options in the area, Lous, Giordanos, and Viccinos to name a few. Most recently, I decided to switch it up and order the pasta with red meat sauce. Since protein is an important part of my diet, I also order 2 meatballs on the side for 3$ (They're big meatballs). The order was carryout, and when I returned with the order (for myself and five coworkers, granted) there were no meatballs. Oh well, I always keep a chicken breast handy so that made up my protein game. However, what if I had no extra chicken? I'd have to eat a meal with meager protein value, not my style. When I called to complain, the manager offered to deliver the meatballs. I have a 40 minute lunch break, and had already eaten the pasta, so this was no good, but somewhat thoughtful. Brazenly, I requested a sandwich to make it right. The manager balked at the idea of this, because a sandwich is an 8$ value and the meatballs were 3$ so he credited 3$ to my account for the next order. I was disappointed with this olive branch since I dont believe my meal being utterly disappointing due to lack of protein was taken into account. This is not a zero sum game. At the very least, in my opinion, a refund is deserved. However, I got nothing more to make up for my less than enjoyable meal. Hence 3 stars. read more

we ordered delivery. Very fast. the entres we ordered were OK, but not memorable. The gnocchi was bland and mushy. The meatballs were good, the sauce was OK. The chicken parmesan was overcooked, fried to death. We have had their pizza before and that was very good. All in all, I worry they have too much emphasis on speedy food service made ingredients. This is a favorite stand-by. We go to Marco Roma about two or three times per month, often for lunch. On a nice day, the patio is really lovely. Their chopped pollo salad is literally perfect - lots of veggies, chicken, blue cheese, craisins - really filling, very reasonably priced, and healthy. Their eggplant parmesan is my favorite indulgence [calorie-wise - nothing is expensive here]. The owner is extremely friendly, and the service is always efficient. read more

My wife and I played golf in Waukegan. On our way back home we spotted Marco Roma and decided to stop. We had never eaten there before. I had a meatball sandwich and my wife had a chicken parmigiana sandwich. Both sandwiches were exceptional. Being of Italian descent, I can be pretty picky about restaurant Italian food. But not here. The meatballs were tender and had just the right amount of garlic. The red gravy was perfect, just like home. And best of all, the french bread was toasted to perfection on both sandwiches. Two great sandwiches. Though we live in Park Ridge (not close to Winnetka), we will be going back to Marco Roma for sure. read more

We got a pizza on NYE from Marco Polo. I can not agree with much of the reviews. We had a vegetable pizza for which we added sausage. It was mediocre at best. Somewhat flavorless, with too many onions. Seeing it was NYE we thought to pick up the pizza thinking deliveries would be backed up. We were surprised to see that this place was dead. The phone wasn't even ringing. Perhaps they get more business on other nights. This is a place we will not be returning to. read more

A discovery 30 years too late, but right on time... I grew up in the North Shore but moved west 30 years ago. I come back often to see my family, and I'm always on the look out for a great local restaurant we haven't tried a thousand times before - especially a cozy/quiet place with local charm. Somehow, we missed this place, but thankfully, never again - having seen it last night and impulsively stopping in for dinner. I have gone gluten free, and I love pizza. What a thrill to see a gluten free option on the menu, especially last night when I was TOTALLY CRAVING PIZZA. Back in my home in California, every place serves it, and most do it well, but back here in the North Shore, I didn't think people knew how to pull it off - but this place did in spades! Though they didn't make the crust, the owner, Joseph, does get the need for great quality ingredients and he selected an amazing vendor for his base for their gluten free. My dad got the bolognese and he said it was so authentic that even the smell of it brought him back to his favorite haunts in Italy. Wish I'd known about this place decades ago, but I'm glad I do know - especially with the new owner, Joseph, working so hard to keep the traditions of this North Shore legend alive. We order Marco Roma pizza for delivery often for my family. I prefer the thin crust pizza at Marco Roma to any other thin crust pizza in the area. The pizza is always fresh and delivery is always timely. Last night my family decided to go to Marco Roma for dinner. It is a small establishment, but it had plenty of room for the number of parties that came into the door. My husband and I got a salad to start and then sandwiches which were both delicious. I had the meatball sandwich and thought it was very good. The kids got a pizza which they always love. The food came out very quickly and perfectly hot! The only downside is that my husband would have loved a beer with his meal and they don't serve any booze. It is another great option for dining in with the family. read more

I live right around the corner, but have only gone twice. I had the meatball sandwich both times because its that good. Covered in provolone and doused with marinara, its supreme. This is an easy and cheap option for lunch/dinner in the north shore. I shall be returning many more times, especially to try the pizza. read more

Oh Marco Roma, you were so good... What happened? We've been ordering pizza from Marco Roma for over a year now. They have this program where they'll give you free pizza if you save 15 box tabs. Tonight we hit that mark, although I think we've had it more and never kept the first few tabs. Anyway - I was expecting my usual deep dish pizza to be excellent as always. What was delivered was a wet, soggy mess. When I say this, I mean the BOX WAS SOAKED. It disintegrated in a garbage bag in our kitchen as I called the 'manager' to ask about it. His suggestion was that I 'don't get it cut'. WTF? I've been a customer over a year, I know what to expect and this isn't it! 45 minutes later my doorbell rings with a new pizza. This one only has 4 ruined, soggy mess slices - yay! I'm too damn hungry to call again, and I won't ever call again. So sad.... 1 extra star for the memories. read more
