If you think of Chicago pizza, Lou's bar none is the go-to place. Not only is their butter crust one of the best but their beer sausage is so tasty and juicy! They are known for their deep dish by their thin crust is rather delicious as well. It's topped with premium mozzarella cheese and the bread holds up well and crisp. One of the gems at Lou's is the Lou's salad. The mixture of the Lou's special dressing, bacon bits, Gorgonzola cheese, black olives and tomatoes, this is a must have during every order. This location is purely a carry out restaurant. The staff there is really nice and personable. They handle a good amount of traffic since it's a carry out facility. Lou's has an option when you order their thin crust pizza, you can have it made "well done" . The crust is crunchier and the cheese browned a bit. It's incredible. Unfortunately, Glenview location consistently undercooks the pizza. This last time instead of an online order we called in to specifically as for EXTRA well done. Found this Lou Malnati's in the area and wanted to do a pickup order because no trip to the Windy City is complete without some deep dish. I used the website to order ahead and there were 2 options: sooner or later. Very easy to navigate the website and you pay ahead to place the order. My sis and I got the cheese deep dish for 2 which was the best portion, with tax only paid like $17! We didn't add any extra toppings so it roughly took only 30 mins. Great phone order experience and pick up totally exceeded my expectations it was fast and efficient even though I was waiting with 5 other customers for pick up. Pizza was really good we order large thin crust sausage, but my favorite were the wingless chicken wings and I enjoyed them very much. You have to try the wings with the Lou homemade buffalo sauce it's really good for dipping and ties everything together. I was already a big fan of Lou pizzas and now their chicken wings! read more

This was our first time having true Chicago pizza and being from NY I was definitely skeptical. We ordered the Classic and the Lou's and I must say although very different from NY Pizza, they were tasty. In the future I would order them with a little less cheese as they is a ton but other then that I wouldn't change a thing. Our server Jenna M was awesome she even went the extra step when she realized we were staying in a hotel to package up our leftovers in small containers that would fit in a mini fridge. The atmosphere was a normal restaurant nothing special or unique just good food. Just be careful if you are looking Lou up online many of their locations are take out only so if your looking for a full sit experience be sure you are going to one of their restaurant locations. read more

There are (3) classic old school deep dish pizza (not to be confused with stuffed pizza) in Chicago. Lou's Genos East Giordanos (Pizzeria Uno once before they sold their sole and went chain). There are other perhaps better places for deep dish but these three are the OG of deep dish. I always find time for Lou's when I visit home. Begins with the Loumalnatis salad as it is a classic Italian sweet vinaigrette with all of the classic fixings. Calamari at Lou's also done right-large as onion rings and just the right amount of breading. As for the deep dish Lou's butter crust is the way to go and the Italian sausage crumbled (Pattie's are for breakfast go crumbles) is made on premise in a very from the boat recipe...with onion as the perfect deep dish pizza. No No No pineapple No bbq chicken No brisket If you ask for non-traditional toppings you deserve the stink eye you will get. It's so nice to have a location near us that has good parking! We used the app to order and a staffer met us as soon as we pulled up to confirm the order. Our pizzas and salad were delivered to the car on time, with friendly service, and safely with masks. This, on Thanksgiving Eve, when it's crazy busy-- other years have been rough-- this year was a cinch! For the second time in two months we ordered a pizza with no Parmesan cheese on top. For the second time in a row it came with it. The ticket delivered with the order did not say "no parm". I am aware that it is customary company policy and standard for them to put it in top but it's a very simple request that has gone ignored numerous times. To have someone not be able to eat because of a careless employee really makes me want to eat elsewhere. The pizza was 50$+ dollars and isn't worth it, by any means. Frozen box pizza is pretty much the same quality and you can get 6x the quantity of food for the same price. I never had a Chicago deep dish pizza so I thought I'd give this place a try. You can get it hot and ready to go or a take it home and bake pizza. As delicious as some folks say this is, this was not my cup of tea. I am more into like the regular or thin crust so this was a little bit outside of my comfort zone. However it is still very delicious. I would recommend getting a medium (I don't believe they come in small though that would be more appropriate) if it's your first time trying a deep dish pizza. My first experience was in their downtown location, years ago. I have been to Giordano's in Morton Grove and Lou Malnati is a step above. Because of their popularity and seating is crazy, it is easier to just order for pick up. A couple tips for take out: 1) Whether the pizza is placed in the back seat or held in your lap, make sure it is leveled because some of the juices can spill. 2) You may find it useful to place it in the oven for a few minute to evaporate some of the liquid. read more

Lou's use to be my go-to place for pizza, but I am sad to report that the quality of the pie has fallen markedly. I don't know if this is a reflection of a private equity firm buying a stake in the company, but the quality has gone south. Not enough sauce, not enough cheese, and skimpy on the pepperoni. The crust tastes sometimes like it was frozen or old. The customer service is slacking, too. They get orders wrong, miss orders and fail to fill orders. This goes for both the Wilmette and the Glenview locations. Ordered a spinach pie from Wilmette recently and it was so bad, i threw most of it out. Not enough cheese, not sauce and the crust was old. This was the first time trying a Lou Malnati's pie, and my only other comparisons (that I can remember) are Giordano's and a place down in Toledo called Pizza Papalis from a couple years back. I'm pretty sure I've had them from my childhood days, but that was a lifetime ago.. So compared to the other two places, LM's absolutely blew me away with their pizza! This particular one is a carry-out-only place. No tables. Just a 12-foot counter with a couple coolers on the side. In fact, I couldn't even tell if they were open from the outside until I walked up and opened the door. Their hours of operations sign is tiny and can't really be read from the parking two-feet away, and I don't remember seeing an open sign. It was Sunday at 1pm so I guess there's no reason for them to be closed, but you just never know.. What also didn't help was that there was nobody at the counter. I figured it's a carry-out only place and they probably mostly take phone orders, so no big deal. Someone came out to greet me after 5 seconds anyway. The girl who took the order was absolutely helpful. I told her it's my first time with LM, and she was kind enough to make a few suggestions including not having the pizza cut if I plan on taking it home to eat. (I later understood exactly why she did, for it didn't take long for the juice from the pizza started dripping below. They did an amazing job to lay a sheet of wax paper below to prevent too much leakage.) I requested the pie be cut since we'll be eating the pie on the road. We ended up camped right outside in the parking lot to eat it while it was hot, and it was pretty amazing.. Both my wife and daughter weren't exactly impressed with the whole Chicago-style pie when we tried them both at Giordano's and Pizza Papalis, but they seemed very pleased with LM. Now, it could be that there's one-hour time difference between Chicago and Toledo that our lunch was late, (hunger is your best appetite, after all..) or it could be the spicy giardiniera we opted for that made the pie taste 10x better. Either way, it was a very good experience for both girls and myself. I keep seeing Chicagoans debate their best deep-dish pies between Lou Malnati's, Gino's East and Piquods. I've knocked out one. Now I'm almost obligated to try the other two and make the comparisons. Now I wait for my wife to make her next hair appointment in Chicago.. read more

Staff is friendly, courteous; treats each customer with kindness and respect despite time constraints (the ONE time they got the drinks I had ordered incorrectly-- ONE time over several years-- they corrected it immediately and did not charge for the replacement drinks, and let me keep the wrong ones). It is my favorite place to order from --- even though pizza is usually Not my favorite food type or cuisine. I myself love the LOU's BRUSCHETTA and the MALNATI's SALAD ( for me, without the bacon). Taste is 'just right' for my palate--Zesty; Not too spicy or hot; satiating but Not giving one a 'too full' feeling hours later ( the 'why did I eat that?') I am as picky as Goldilocks-- but Lou's is perfect. ( One word of 'warning'-- the lemon ice and the Carol's chocolate chip cookies--... if you are like me with a sweet tooth-- Be careful.
