Wow! I can't state with enough enthusiasm how great the pizza is at Lefty's. We stopped in on Saturday before heading to the Skokie Theatre to see A Streetcar Named Desire. Lefty's has a very small dining room with limited seating (during the warmer months they offer al fresco dining) and a counter running along the main window for additional seating. In this instance seating and interior are secondary to the superb quality of the pizza. We started with a Sketchbook IPA and Peroni beer on draft. They were brought to the table in chilled glasses with a nice head of foam. The beers were presented in glasses with the beer names etched on each of the glasses. Outstanding presentation! For our entree we ordered a 16 inch thin crust pizza with sausage, green peppers, and mushrooms. When it came to the table it was hot and bursting with a sweet aroma and bouquet of colors. The pizza was topped with green, red, and yellow peppers, mushrooms, and chunks of fresh sausage. The sauce was sweet and plentiful and was amply covered with generous portions of melted mozzarella cheese. The pizza was hot and the blended flavors of the combined ingredients were superb. Finally, an establishment that values the quality of ingredients and consistently delivers. Lefty's is one of the very best thin crust pizza's on the north shore. Great pizza restaurant in the heart of downtown Wilmette. You can order pan or thin and they have a wide variety of appetizers and salads. Their selection of local brews and wines is also very nice. The staff is excellent and super friendly. They have seating inside or outside and on a nice night, I'd definitely recommend outside. If you're just not feeling the going out vibe, order in! Is it overpriced in the context of their true cost? Yes. Then why do business with them? Well while everybody else is ripping you off in quality and quantity of cheese, sauce, pepperoni density etc in the deep dish arena, Lefty's aint doing this. Last night we went out for thai food and got 2 dishes and an egg roll. $55 dollars later and still hungry as the portions were pathetic, I realized I should have gone to Lefty's. Lefty's Pizza in Wilmette serves what I truly believe is the best pizza in all of Chicagoland, and as a local, I know how big a statement that is. Their thick crust is incredible, with an almost deep-fried texture that is borders on burned but not and crispy outside while chewy inside, a perfect balance of rich cheeses, and a sauce that is exactly right, not too sweet, not too savory, and not overly herbed. Every bite captures exactly what pizza should be. It was a real shame that the Highland Park location had to close, perhaps because it was not fully recognized just how special a gem it was, but Wilmette still proudly carries the torch. I'm a Wilmette lifer and grew up obsessed with Lou Malnati's and while I still love my Lou I have to say our family go to has been lefty's now for a couple years. The pizza is ALWAYS fantastic and the service great as well. Well tonight I ordered and they didn't have anyone on for delivery so I headed over to pick up. Somehow the order didn't print in the store and without hesitation they refunded my order and offered to make it and deliver it even short handed. Best pizza and best service. It is extremely impolite and bad-mannered to call your customers liars when you are obviously totally ignorant of the facts. For the record, I placed an order and was informed that it would be ready at 5:50 PM. At that time the person picking up the order arrived at the restaurant (while a driver awaited in the car outside) and was told that the order was not ready. Finally, at 6:10 PM, TWENTY minutes (!!) after the order was promised, an order was provided, and several minutes later as they were arriving at home, a woman from the restaurant called and told me that the wrong order had been provided. I immediately indicated that the order would be promptly returned, and was told that I should keep the order and that the correct order would be delivered. About an hour later, when I had not received my order, I called and was told that it was not delivered because THEY DIDN'T HAVE MY ADDRESS. I pointed out that they obviously had my phone number and could have called me if that was the issue. I then requested a refund and was told by the woman that a refund would be provided. When I called the next day to confirm the refund, I was told by the disrespectful man who answered that I would NOT be provided with a refund, and when I noted that the woman that I had spoken with the previous evening had promised me a refund, he said that "She is not the boss" and he hung up on me. This insulting and discourteous interaction is unworthy of a business which purports to offer customer service. Bottom line: I never received the food I ordered. I never received the refund I was promised. I consider this behavior to be nothing short of theft. read more

I finally tried Lefty's. This will be my go to pizza place from now on. Ordered online and showed up early. I was just going to sit in my car until the time came, but someone came out to my car when I pulled up. I told her I still needed to pay and she took my name then came back to take my card. She was so kind! A+ for service! My pizza came out early and pipping hot! It smelled so good. I hard time resisting eating during my 10 min ride home. The pizza was crunchy, yet chewy and soft. I give Lefty's two stars because I actually really enjoy their pizza, both thin and pan, and we've been sorely short of good pizza in mid and east Wilmette for years. However, due to the owners responses to people questioning their masking policy, I will not be returning. When an owner degrades a customer for disagreeing with something, or complaining about staff or food....well, it's unacceptable, and it doesn't matter If they are right, wrong, or of differing opinions. I'm a tough critic for pizza but I think this was really good. Had a 10" pan with perfectly charred edges. Nice and tangy, fresh sauce. The cheese had a great taste. Very good sweet peppers, but the sausage wasn't my favorite. A lot of food for $20. A sharp pie that was a bit firmer and tidier than I thought it was going to be lol. No flop, nice chewy dough, good crisp on the bottom. The edges are really, really good. Eager to return. read more

Burt lives on. When Lefty's is at its best, it's five stars. However, the quality and service are extremely spotty. There have been many mishaps, an extra star awarded for making up for them, but about a third of our orders have some kind of problem, whether it's dried out and overcooked, wrong orders, or something else. I still prefer Lou's, but Lefty's is a nice change, and if you catch them on the occasional good night, their pizza is fantastic. read more

Don't believe the hype. Been wanting to try Lefty's for awhile. Comparisons to Pequad's and Gulliver's are highly exaggerated. Pizza was very meh. Dough was too thick for a thin crust. Edges were crisp. Worst of all, by the time we got to the middle, it was impossible to pick up the pieces! The dough literally "ran" as if undercooked. My family loves Pizza and it is a once (maybe twice) weekly tradition at our house to get it. We are very dedicated to our Lou Malnati, but we decided to try out Lefty's and I'd say they have some good competition now! We ordered the pan pizza with roasted bell peppers and pepperoni on top. I just have to say the sauce is amazing! Its very rustic, darker, and a bit thicker then other pizza's I've had. The sauce Made the pizza for me and there was alot of it. I ate about 3 large slices myself it was so good! I enjoyed the toppings and cheese too, which there were plenty of. The crust was a little bit uneven so some pieces were not as crisp on the bottom. Heating it up in the oven seemed to help that. I do not love the crust on the pizza. There really is not any, but the outer edge is too charred for my taste. The cost is comparable to other pizzerias in the area, so I think I will give Leftys some more of my business. I'd like to try their thin crust next! read more

Crust texture and flavor lean slightly towards a Lou Malnatis coming from a Pequods's base. Great pie! Delivery was much faster than timeframe I was quoted when ordering! Lefty's staff is very friendly and helpful they make sure you feel welcome and unhurried. The pan pizza is phenomenal with a great selection of toppings. Similar to Burt's and Pequod's but conveniently in the North shore. But lefty's dough to cheese and sauce ratio is so much more on point then Pequods and Burts. 100% recommend! read more
