I called and the gentleman that answered isn't professional. Doesn't greet you or even acknowledge the business you called. He just said "Hello" so I wasn't sure I called the right place. I asked "Hi is this Marcs VW?" He sounded standoffish and said "Nope, used to be, Marc retired." Out of curiosity I asked what the name is now and he hung up on me while letting out a loud sigh... First impression tells me this place is unprofessional and doesn't want customers to even know where they're calling. Marc (and now more John than Marc) is truly honest and fair as Laura said. Loses one star for sometimes being extremely slow and non-communicative (have to call to find out car is done), but otherwise my family always has had a great relationship with Marc. Also, even though it is called Marc's VW he works on basically anything foreign. read more

This place certainly deserves some recognition. I had a very good experience with them several years ago. As Josh indicates, whie it's called Marc's VW, they work on pretty much any foreign car (particularly the German cars). I had heard good things about them, and due to some stupid scheduling/decision-making on my part, my old Mercedes needed maintenance but I couldn't get an appointment booked with Keeler within the timeframe I needed. I took the car to Marc's and they took care of it. It wasn't an overly-complicated job or anything, but still, they weren't afraid of the car and they knew what they were doing with it. Very unimpressed. Saw a vehicle posted for sale. Tried to contact through email twice and never heard a response (both my husband and I tried to get in touch). Then when I finally found the phone number and texted a man named Kevin his response to my questions and comments about not being able to get in touch with them was a text of one word. "SOLD" I wrote back to his one word text asking if he was a dealer ... interested to see if this man would even respond. Nope. No response. Wow. Thank you so much for making the least amount of effort possible to help a consumer. I will be sure to never ever purchase a vehicle from your facilities and write this post to deter others as well. read more

This shop tried to pull some slick stuff . Instead of letting us know that a part would take about a month and a half to come in they stalled us...to the point where our car that we rely on is still in the shop....two and a half months later. Just called them....still not fixed "but they are hoping to do it today" . If you are someone who relies heavily on your vehicle or have a profession where traveling is required, as is the case here, proceed with caution. read more

I bought a 71 VW bus with good bones and wanted to get it back on the road. I called a few places and they referred me to Marc. You want someone with skills, experience and passion working on your baby. He went over the vehicle, repaired/renovated what was needed including tune-up, fuel pump, brakes, exhaust, new fuel lines, etc. He kept in communication and worked with my budget. Runs like it probably hasn't in over a decade. He explained everything he did with it, provided advice and is a true gentleman. I'll be back. If you have an air-cooled VW it's getting harder to find knowledgeable, experienced mechanics. Marc is one of the best. Just be patient - parts have to be ordered. They aren't sitting on the shelves anymore. Take time and get it right. read more

TLDR - Incompetent or just don't care, both? Misdiagnosis, said I needed a $1500 -$2000 part, WRONG!!! I was visiting in the area from a long distance away when my car would not start. Had the car brought to Marc's after trying some basic diag. in a cold driveway with very limited tools (I do most of my own mechanical work on this car at home). Car was brought to Marc's on the advice of the flatbed driver. Managed to find a way home after it was obvious they were in no hurry to look at it that day (tomorrow? "Maybe. We're busy" - yeah they were out plowing snow). They knew I was from out of the area. All I wanted was to get the car started and running to get it home. After a few days they finally got around to looking at it and pronounced that the injection pump was bad "no fuel at the injectors". This part is $1500 - $2000 + $1000 core charge before any labor and I had my doubts so I paid the tow bill + 1hr. labor to Marc's. Getting the car back to me was going to be big $$$$'s so I managed to arrange to borrow a tow dolly and towed it back w/the help of a friend. Spent an hr. or 2 doing basic 101 diag. stuff, nothing complicated or involved, just basics they should have covered. Pulled fuel through the pump (with a vacuum pump), got a lot of air out of it, bled injectors and it started right up. 2 subsequent cold starts went fine. As of this writing not sure why it failed to start in Mechanicville but if Marc's mechanic had half a clue or half cared about what he was doing they could have had the car running in an hr. or two and spared me a lot of grief, expense, and favors owed to all those who helped me out. read more

I have always had great experiences with Marc's. I have been in a bind and a tech stayed late on a Friday to help me out. I have always had nothing but good things to say about them and would send anyone with a German car there over any place in the area. They do great work and employee great people. That being said, this is no longer the case. I just got off the phone with Marc's (not Marc) and told them that I needed my front left window regulator replaced. I told him that I have the part already and all I need is an install. He informed me that "to many people were taking advantage of them that way, and I would have to buy the part from him." I have been in the car business for a while and I know that this is so they can mark up the parts. However, this was not the case, they were charging the same amount for the part as I paid for it (again- knowing that I had already purchased the part) but he did quote me well over the hours of labor that this job should take. Marc's has been around as long as it has because of all the things I mentioned above. Because of the little things I have mentioned is why I will look for a For Sale sign out on route 9 very shortly. read more

this was one of the worst experiences of my life!! my car was in and out of there for at least 4 months with the exact same problem. most of the time my car would not make it home before the check engine light came on. one time the check engine light came on half way home, i popped the hood and the air filter was disconnected and sitting in the engine bay. another time i picked my car up and it stalled out pulling out of the shop and would not start again. i had a clutch slave cylinder replaced and the clutch felt TERRIBLE after. i took it back they said nothing was wrong. months later while driving a large spring feel out onto the floor underneath the steering wheel, turns out its a critical piece of the clutch system that returns the clutch that they failed to replace after installing the new slave cylinder. every time i took my car back there he asked me so what do you want me to do about it, how about fix my car already!! finally they told me and i quote "we are not certified ve mechanics and that i should go to a dealership to get a second opinion on a diagnoses". why they are called marcs vw i will never understnd. after 4 months of bs i went to nemer vw and my car was fixed in 1 single day with no problems in the year following. i wouldnt go back there if you payed me. read more
