AMAZING!!! My girlfriend and I visited here during a brief trip to Miami to celebrate our anniversary and were beyond pleased with our dinner at Mareva. Firstly, the ambiance is gorgeous, not too loud, and it is nice but casual enough for you not to worry much about what to wear. We started off with the Pear with Me and Endless Passion cocktails, which were absolutely delicious. The pear with me in particular was incredible, and a drink we had never tasted before! We ended up ordering another round of the same because of just how good they were. For our main dish, we got the Black Paella, which was AMAZING! As someone who had visited Spain before, I was happily surprised at how yummy it was and my girlfriend was similarly floored by it (she hasn't stopped talking about our wonderful meal!) At $21 per person, it was also well priced (especially given Miami prices). We were full from sharing the paella and barely had room for dessert. However, our wonderful waitress (who had been wishing us a happy anniversary throughout our meal) encouraged to get the Brioche Torrija, and when it arrived we were happily surprised by the message written on the plate. So special! The torrija was delicious and the combination of guava and lemon was incredible (they were out of the coconut gelato, which was fine with me as I'm not a big fan of coconut). Overall, our experience was excellent. The service was so wonderful, with each server being so kind and giving us several well wishes on our anniversary. So full confession, I came mainly for the chocolate ganache dessert! The meal turned out fabulous! The atmosphere was beautiful and the vibe lively. Flavio was my server and he nailed it with his service and attention. He never steered me wrong and gave me perfect attention despite me being a single diner! I had the beet carpaccio salad which was delicious and then I had the octopus in the potato purée which came with some toasted bread. The octopus was a generous sized tapas! Then I went straight for my chocolate ganache dessert which was outstanding. It was so unique with garlic and bread and somewhere in there was mushrooms! I don't know how it was made but I absolutely loved it. I drank a glass of Rosè txakolina and it paired well with everything! The place was quite beautiful too with its tiled floor and tiled ceiling, and I was fortunate enough to hear an classical music concert in the bar. So technically I didn't eat AT Mareva 1939, but as a guest at the National Hotel, I had their room service dinner AND breakfast. Let's talk about dinner. The BRANZINO!! Oh.My.Goodness!! That was so freakin good!!! I had always seen it on other menus but I just stayed in my comfort zone and got Salmon! LoL I just hope when I get it again, it's made with so much flavor as this meal was. It has no bones and there was this pepper on top and I don't even like spicy let alone peppers but I just kept eating it with the fish and it was like it was better and better with every bite. Mareva1939 is located in the National Hotel and is nicely tucked away overlooking the pool. It has both indoor and outdoor seating and while I sat outside on the patio, the seating inside certainly looked comfortable. For dinner, I had two tapas dishes...the clams and the octopus. Unfortunately, they were out of the ham croquettes and potatas bravas...which was deeply disappointing as they are a staple at almost every Spanish tapas restaurant. The clams were just ok. The dish contained ~1 dozen tiny clams, thick slices of onions in an unremarkable sauce. Tbh, my clams in white wine and garlic sauce are far superior. The Octopus was a bit better as the dish was full of bite sized octopus pieces in a nice paparika intensive potato ragu. That being said, the main dish was quite good. I had the artichoke and mushroom paella and it was really well done. I just had the worst breakfast I have ever eaten before. I got the huevos rotos, the fries where super undercooked the eggs where overcooked and the jamon was too thick and chewy. Also got the pancakes which where down right bad. Terrible texture, heavy and no taste. The bananas on top where putrid, like what did you do to a banana to make it taste that bad ? Superb cocktails. Solid food. Fun ambience. OK service. Came here twice, both for group celebrations. This is the perfect spot for a group to have 2 cocktails a person, share tapas, and walk out actually full with your bill being right at $100 - honestly a feat for miami beach. Service was decent for the area & group size - not attentive, but the food/drinks kept coming, and we could get their attention when needed. Recommended dishes - Seafood paella (a 2 person order is enough for 4 when you're ordering other things) - Pan con tomate - Jamon iberico - Baby kale - Croquetas - Bone marrow Honorable mentions - Patatas bravas - Mussels Didn't care for the steak tartare, short rib paella, octopus, chorizo. Unfortunately, didn't get to try the more entree-type dishes. Everyone really enjoyed the cocktails - hibiscus and melon drinks were the favorites! About 8pm (on Fridays at least) a live vocalist begins playing in the bar area, but the music is projected to the outside area, so it's pretty loud no matter where you're sitting. I'm not sure if there's a regular, but the first time was a sultry modern cover artist, second time was a lively entertainer switching between Elton John and show tunes. Depends on your taste, I loved both! Don't forget to capture a quintessential miami photo down by the pool. Legitimately one of the best restaurants I've had in Miami! Their melon or sandia cocktail was amazing! It has mezcal in it but it's still very light and easy to drink. All the tapas were delicious but we especially loved the octopus and mussels. We ordered the mushroom and asparagus paella as well as seafood and lobster paella and couldn't decide which was better, they were both that good. It was our friends birthday and they gave us a cheese flan which I'm not usually a fan of but it was amazing! Would definitely recommend and we will definitely be back again! read more

We were seated at a long table toward the back corner of the inside area where we could still feel a nice breeze. The service was timely and attentive, and my server helped me ordered a variety of tapas items for the table that included vegetarian and gluten free options. I also appreciated that people could come and go, and the restaurant wasn't strict about seating everyone at one time. Our group enjoyed the food and the vibe of the place. Prices are on par with other restaurants of this style in South Beach, and there were plenty of options for everyone. I especially enjoyed the artichoke and wild mushroom paella! Came here on Friday Night to try out their Miami Spice Menu. The restaurant is located inside of the National Hotel. The place and ambiance is very romantic which makes it perfect for a date night. Our server was very attentive and explained almost everything in the menu for us. For appetizer I chose the Spanish Potato Salad, for entree the Pan Seared Branzino and I decided to take my dessert to go. This restaurant may say it is Old World cuisine of Spain but Definitely NOT. Not one Cod Fish/Bacalao dish on menu. Traditional protien. Advertised Padron peppers were not. The potatoe cream in scantily found rubbery grilled octopus was bland, needed seasoning. Short rib and garbanzo paella was not good. Rice was mushy and under seasoned. We had to search for thin fibers of short rib. The bland morsilla was 4 small pieces for two a person serving. Lots of garbanzo beans. The service was good. We spent the day at the beach and wanted to stay at our hotel the National, and we really enjoyed our dining experience. To start our waitress Melissa was very sweet and a joy . She was helpful and answered all our questions and even went back to the kitchen to verify some ingredients. My sister the got the Bronzino . It had a vinaigrette sauce with spicy peppers , she said it was delicious and I tasted it and agreed. I got the short ribs and they were so tender and the sauce on them were great but I would have liked more potatoes . The surrounding sauce was excellent. This was probably our favorite meal on vacation! We stopped by the small bar to the side (its a two seater, I believe) and grabbed a couple of cocktails before our reservation. Our bartender was friendly and the decor is fun - it feels like your in a rich friend's cool at home bar, but with better drinks. When it was time for dinner we were seated at one of the booth-style tables looking at the pretty pool. The rain was coming, but they were prepared with drop down shades that kept the storm from impacting us. We had the Spanish octopus with potato cream as an app and it was delicious. Followed that with the black paella and again, phenom (this is said from a non-seafood fan too). 100% will be back, and we're contemplating staying at the hotel too since it's kid free and gorgeous! read more

Beautiful place and great service. Photo opps are great for instagram but not for your stomach- the food still needs to be good and Marea comes through with esthetic and substance. We came here during a recent trip to Miami that just so happened to be Spice Week. Was a great chance to try three courses at a cheaper rate. The spicy chorizo was my favorite. My steak was well cooked but I could had a little less finishing salt. For tapas, it's a little pricey however typical for the area. Cocktails were tasty while also packing a punch. If you're looking to be pampered by a super attentive staff and distinctive dishes, then definitely check this place out. We stuck to the menu highlights and were immensely satisfied and stuffed by the end: a couple mini empanadas (on the house!), the grilled octopus tapa, the black ink paella, and manchego flan.
