I saw an acquaintance recently speaking on visiting this place, and although I had been following on social media I hadn't had an opportunity to go. I decided to take my daughter and her bachelorette group for dinner after a day on the water. I was expecting it to be buzzing on a Saturday night with some music and vibes. Luckily we had an early dinner and was able to chat prior to all of the happenings. Which was quite a few things but it didn't take away from my team eating really good. We ordered an assortment of apps like, octopus, tuna tartare, duck tacos watermelon and feta salad, tomato salad. The octopus was the best I've had in a long time. And they were nice big pieces. Everyone ordered different entrees and no complaints. I had the lamb chops, delicious but small and I am assuming they were organic. The branzino was amazing and a large portion, skirt steak very good, the filet mignon also very good. We found this place here on yelp. This is for 10/27/2024. Assuming it would be a fun experience; turned out to be a sour one. It was my cousin's birthday and we asked if they could sing happy birthday to her (we didn't mind paying the dessert if it wasn't on the house). This spot was a recommendation, we made a reservation within an hour of showing up. On a Friday evening, it was pretty quiet. It was a really nice ambiance upon entering, giving Tulum vibes. The service was not great at all... very slow as a matter of fact. We didn't complain as we weren't in a rush, but we were hungry! We ordered their rendition of the old fashion, it was for 2 and was well worth the experience! The smoke and the pickled corn garnish was delectable. My brother order the filet and he enjoyed it. We also ordered the shrimp pasta, 2 orders and they were very different portions sizes. One was a large plate of pasta, and the other was a small plate of pasta, each with 2 shrimp each. Extremely disappointed and disgusted is an understatement. While vacationing in Miami, my boyfriend and I went to dinner at Casa Matilda for his birthday. The atmosphere was nice and the service was mediocre. After eating the crab enchiladas, I got extreme shellfish poisoning and had to go to the hospital. I was (and still am) horrifyingly sick. This completely ruined the majority of our vacation. As upset as I was after being ill for days upon days and spending hundreds of dollars on hospital bills, I could not get in contact with any staff at Casa Matilda because they are only open on certain days of the week. I left multiple voicemails explaining the situation and did NOT receive a call back once the restaurant was open again. So, I called again. I had to call multiple times before finally being connected to the general manager, Christopher. And boy was I taken aback by how disgustingly rude, stuck up, ignorant, and argumentative this manager was. I calmly explained the entire situation to him and requested a refund from our dinner. Christopher immediately said no to my request and began arguing with me, talking over me, and calling me a liar. He said that there was no way I could prove that I got sick from the food at Casa Matilda. When I reassured him that I had complete proof of the timeline in the hospital paperwork, all other restaurant receipts, plane tickets, etc. he told me once again that he didn't believe me and that he would not be willing to look at any of this. After going back and forth with me on the phone, repeating himself over and over again, we did not come to any solution. I was a customer who had a terrible experience at this restaurant, called the general manager to resolve the issue, was talked down to and called a liar, and received no compensation.
